This book is a fresh breath of air, Its unlike any other fantasy book I've read . The world building is magical and beautiful .
Daerios Ariar is a work of art .Quinn's character reminds me of myself, I see myself when I read her. She dedicated her whole life to Revenge only to fall for her enemy . Feisty little thing she is.
Daerios best friend Berendir is just so cheeky and hilarious . Her roommate Cara is a a sweetheart as well. Daerios and Quinn's banter and chemistry was top notch. This book had me grinning ear to ear. And the way he cares about her? Genuinely the sweetest guy ever . The prince and his obsession with emojis caught me off guard, he is so me😜💅🏼.

The slow burn and yearning nearly killed me. Their love was like burning embers. And the cottage part? she needs to confess up her feelings. The scooby doo and mac n cheese was a fun part. This man is utterly perfect. His positive masculinity makes me weakkk. Quinn's confidence is to die for!
The betrayal in the third part tore everything apart. But I'm glad it was a misunderstanding. They finally found her brother Michael as well.
My babies are everything. I'm so glad they got their Happy Ever After🫶🏼✨

I freaking loved this! At first it was giving the cruel prince vibes but the plot twist changed EVERYTHING.

Can we talk about the Chemistry between the characters? Daerios had me giggling and kicking my feet, he was so down bad for our girl!!
Also the “good girl” had me SCREAMING.
And the one bed trope was done so beautifully.
The fact that he always made sure that she was eating.. I’m crying He is so precious.

Quinn is also so relatable and the whole speech about eating disorders was done so beautifully because it truly captures the feeling.

The 4 friend-group was adorable.

The plot picks up really well and i really really love the ending. I know this is a stand-alone but i wouldn’t mind a second book or at least a novella, i really love these characters.

What are we doing? Why is this book getting 4 and 5 star reviews?

This was not good. I seen a couple of reviews that compared this to The cruel prince.. this was absolutely NOTHING like tcp.

Where was the world building? Why was the story progression so off? Why were the ‘’enemies’’ dry humping and confessing their feelings less than 150 pgs in?

This read like badly written YA but with a couple of cringey over the top spice scenes, which accomplished nothing because the characters did not have any chemistry… The standards for romantasy have fallen so low, this was just.. no.

First of all, the book design is gorgeous. I loved the small introduction to elves, the map, and oh I would love to see the final copy at bookstores, just to eye the map a little longer.. okay..

What I loved the most were the characters. I didn't feel the connection with anyone other than Quinn and maybe Daerios, but still, they were so nice to read about, and the humour in the book was very needed. For the "scary intimidating murderous" elves, they were pretty goofy, Daerios and Berendir were like stars of the show. Daerios' text messages with Quinn?? Priceless. Those emojis he was using made me laugh a bit too much cause seriously all you can imagine is an elf holding a phone and clicking emojis. Hilarious. And the dance or whatever that was?? The cabin?? Literally any interaction with Quinn? He was so down bad for her. Both of them were like a match made in hell yet WOW don't separate they're crazy. Berendir and Cara too... They were there for the chaos and to see how long it takes Quinn and Daerios to kill each other and I respect that. Honestly me too. Quinn was really funny, and s loveable character. Some of her actions were questionable but then again they're all weird in their own way so she's forgiven. I liked Daerios as a character. the way he cared for Quinn, and him making sure she was eating by bothering her about trying all sorts of different food.. aww.. "but these are elf made" and its literally the same ingredients that humans use.. you're so extra bro you're so precious daerios.. that was beautiful..

However.. the writing wasn't the best. The plot lacked that big world building that the entire "magical world" promised. I wish we'd learned more about how everything worked, I think it had insane potential... and.. just maybe.. I think I would've felt much more connected to everything if the story was longer. Like throw another book and make the plot longer. Everything stays the same but with more friendly moments, more longing, and much more mystery to what they were actually looking for. Make us believe in the plot twist for a while. It was resolved in the very next chapter but I wish we were left with the feeling of getting betrayed for longer. Like make it HURT

All in all, an enjoyable read!! I was giggling most of the time and I think it's great for anyone who wants a quick romantic and funny read. Do check the trigger warnings tho!!

If you’re looking for your next (urban) romantasy obsession, Prince of the Sun should definitely be on your TBR!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed Quinn and Daerios’s story from beginning to end. The writing is engaging, fun, and easy to read, making this one of those books you fly through without even realizing it. It’s incredibly bingeable.

This book includes some of my favorite micro tropes: he’s making sure she’s eating enough, one horse, one bed, and plenty of “yes, ma’am” moments. The chemistry between Quinn and Daerios is fantastic, with the perfect mix of witty banter, simmering tension, and emotional depth. The rivals-to-lovers progression felt natural and seamless, and the plot kept me invested the entire time. And yes… the spice was definitely spicing, if you know what I mean. Bonus points for being a standalone!

I honestly loved this story. The main characters completely won me over, but the side characters were just as memorable (Berendir and Cara, I’m looking at you). If you’re in the mood for a fun, romantic fantasy with great chemistry, satisfying tension, and characters you’ll love, definitely give this one a read!

Ahhhh this is gutting because for almost half of the book it was looking like a 4.5+, but unfortunately I feel it lost its way once the romance conflict started coming into play. The FMC was all at once a breath of fresh air and a frustrating head to be in, I feel there wasn’t a lot of time spent thinking about decisions which would send the plot along to its next pit-stop - her actions in the run up to the lake scene mainly.

The world building was so strong in the beginning, and the college setting was a breath of fresh air, and really enjoyable to read, but this dropped off for me once we moved to the other realm. It felt like we were moving across a game board - go here, this happens, go there, now that happens - and rinse and repeat. It lost all the nuance and intrigue that had shored it up in the first half. And then all of a sudden ancient elves are popping out ‘Cute’ when talking to their enemy across a battlefield? It just felt jarring and didn’t convey the magnitude of that character in the moment.

But really the first couple of parts were a really good read and I would want to read more like that from this author

I absolutely loved this book!

The premise immediately caught my attention. One hundred years ago, elves arrived on Earth searching for something they desperately need before they can return to their own world. Until then, they rule over humanity. After witnessing her father's murder and her brother's kidnapping at the hands of elves, Quinn dedicates years of her life to one goal: getting answers and revenge. Her plan leads her to Harvard, where she intends to get close to none other than Daerios, the mysterious Sun Prince.

Of course... things don't always go according to plan.

One of my favorite aspects of the story was the setting. I loved that this wasn't your typical medieval-inspired fantasy world. Instead, we get modern-day Earth, complete with technology, universities, and everyday life, all while elves have become part of society. It gave the story a refreshing twist that made it stand out from many other romantasy novels I've read.

The world-building was fascinating. I enjoyed learning about the different types of elves and discovering more about their history and purpose as the story unfolded. Every new revelation made me even more curious to keep reading.

Quinn was such an easy protagonist to root for. I admired her determination and the lengths she was willing to go to uncover the truth about what happened to her family. At the same time, I appreciated that she wasn't perfect and that her emotions often conflicted with the mission she had spent years preparing for.

And then there's Daerios...

I absolutely adored him. Watching him slowly fall deeper and deeper in love with Quinn was honestly one of my favorite parts of the book. Their banter was fantastic, their chemistry felt completely natural, and every scene they shared made me smile. I found myself looking forward to every interaction between them.

Overall, Prince of the Sun was a wonderful blend of fantasy, romance, mystery and modern-day academia. With memorable characters, engaging world-building, and a romance that completely won me over, this turned out to be one of my favorite romantasy reads of the year.

As much as a I love Legally Blonde (and that love along with having enjoyed Soul of Shadow being what led to me picking this up), I feel like comparing this to Legally Blonde is a complete undersell. Beyond the fact it takes place at Harvard and Quinn is an absolutely genius nerd, I don't see a ton of similarities, but either way I'm obsessed.

Elves came to our world about 100 years ago. In their initial announcement of their arrival, the elf king said they were looking for something and once they found it they would leave. Every year, he gives a press conference update along with his sons.

Quinn and her brother grew up watching those, and they were obsessed with the "disappointment" clown prince, Daerios. Or at least they did and they were until the day two elves attacked, killing Quinn's father and taking away her brother. Eleven-year-old Quinn went into a deep depression, which led to a struggle with anorexia, until realizing that her brother may be alive. She dedicates her life to finding him and bringing him back.

Quinn studies linguistics from the time she makes her plan, and by the time she starts her college years at Harvard, where conveniently for her plan Daerios started right before her, she is fluent in MANY languages, including two elven ones. She spends all her time on school or on spying to try to figure out what the elves are looking for, and how/whether she can get her brother back. But, sophomore year, she makes a deal with Daerios in exchange for a book which leads to her being his date for a dance and throwing her into his world.

Quinn's ability to nerd out about linguistics made her so fun to me. There are so many times her knowledge of languages has practical applications to the story, and it was really cool to see. Quinn's roommate Cara, a computer science major who is also really dedicated to her craft had several cool storyline applications for her coding and logic skills as well. It made both of them very fun. Daerios and his best friend were also really entertaining, but the ladies are definitely a highlight in this one.

I also really enjoyed the lore surrounding the elves home planet/realm, and it was cool having it fed into the story via Quinn's studying and translations. There is a bit of mystery surrounding the plan, and Quinn's attempts to find information to get to her brother.

As noted briefly above, Quinn has had struggles with anorexia. While she is in recovery at the start of the book, there are a few times throughout where she visibly struggles still. There is also a recounting of someone who struggled with, and died from, anorexia. If you have struggled with eating disorders in the past, I could see the detail and extent being triggering.

Overall, this is a very fun book and, although I'm happy with it and the way it ended, I enjoyed the characters so much that I am borderline disappointed it is a standalone.

I think there was way too much information front loaded here. We’re introduced to 10 different types of fae in a list but we only encounter like 2 or 3 I think throughout the story. If I learned anything from Chopped the TV show it’s don’t put anything on the plate you can’t eat.

The FMC being a linguist had so much potential to be an integral part of the narrative, and it technically is relevant, but it’s just kind of presented to you. The story line had great potential at being real enemies to lovers type story but the writing held it back a little. A fun read and went quick, but did not reinvent the wheel.

This really had nothing to do with Legally Blonde besides the back drop being an Ivy League school but then the school really had nothing to do with the plot except that’s where they were. LB was light and fun and this was like a murder revenge plot at first?

This suffers from what I refer to as ‘But, hot’. Where an MC completely abandons their mission just because someone is hot lol. Like let’s focus girl. This is categorized as New Adult and I think that tracks. Our FMC does make choices and had thoughts in line with that rating.

There is A LOT of discussion about the FMC having an ED. I don’t want to sound like an insensitive jerk so do with that information what you will.

Thank you Emma for sending me this arc! I had so much fun with this book. Quinn and Daerios have such perfect banter, and I found myself laughing so much. The romance had me giggling and kicking my feet. The atmosphere was so cozy, and I just wanted to go there. Also the side characters have my whole heart. I don’t know why but Cara and Berendir really stole the show for me at some parts. I need MORE of them. I loved how Quinn and Daerios’ story wrapped up, and thought it was perfect. The plot was super interesting, and once I started reading I couldn’t stop. It was just so fun.

The yearning was so well done👏🏼 our FMC Quinn is a badass that doesn’t take shit from no one especially from a certain hot elf 👅, she’s smart and very determined. The tension between Quinn and Daerios was tensioning very very good. I loved the side characters, aka Cara and Berendir (would love for them to get their own book🌝), and the plot twists really good.

How do I even put into words how much I loved this book? I have not devoured a book this quickly in so long!

This vapid party boy is hiding more than Quinn knows. She can't deny her attraction towards him even if she keeps reminding herself that she's only getting close to him for intel.

This unlikely pair will steal your heart and rip it out all at the same time. Unknowingly seeking a common goal might be their downfall. Loyalty and love is tested in this incredibly fast paced stand alone romantasy.

Easily Emma's best work. I absolutely loved everything about this book. The pacing, the characters, their individual stories and struggles. Like her other books, Emma brings real life issues into focus through her writing and characters. Educating her readers on things like OCD, and disordered eating. I always leave her books feeling a deep love for her characters while also admiring how much she teaches me about mental illness.

A true 5 star read for me, honestly I'd give it more stars if I could!

ARC- I miss the person I was before reading this

GENUINELY the cringiest writing I have experienced. I can appreciate the bones of the story, interesting concept but very poor execution. As much as the writing is clunky and immature the editing and structure of this book is quite weak.

Unrealistic premise (somehow achieved despite this being a fantasy), patchy world building, side characters that were nuked of personality because their only purpose is driving the plot forward.

FMC that again, I like the bones of it, but the inner dialogue is so cringy that it really overshadows everything that is going for her. MMC that I could not care less about.

I see what they were trying to do with the pacing. But going from 0 to 100% halfway through the book really does it no favours and it makes the writing feel even clunkier .

This was a very silly book, algorithmically and shallowly designed to capture the attentions of the dark academia and Maas reading groups, with deeply irritating characters and plot holes that swallow the book whole. The world building was sloppy (dare I say ... artificially sloppy?), with elves arriving on Earth in 1925, at which point, they announce their presence on YouTube. (You know, that video portal site famously invented in the early twentieth century.) I could say so much more, but really, isn't that enough?

This was my very first urban-fantasy? It was so interesting to see fantasy creatures in a modern-day setting and their interactions were very fun.

The main characters reminded me of the cruel prince and it felt like an alternate universe where Jude and Cardan are born as Quinn and Daerios, but with slightly varied personalities?

The whole academia aspect was quite enjoyable to me, I loved the parts about linguistics, the riddles, and the fmc’s research.

The whole plot point and setting felt quite different, I haven’t read something like this before and I loved the way everything unfolded.

Since this was a standalone, the fast pace was understandable but still very engaging. I literally LIVED for the interactions between Quinn and Daerios, and I absolutely loved their best friends too🤭

All in all, this was quite an enjoyable read because we’re basically getting all the good parts that make up a good story- the tension, the plotting and scheming, hidden intentions, secrets, a yearner mmc, prophecies, academic setting, world-saving quest and loveable side characters!

As for the tropes, we hit the jackpot with these:
- he feeds her
- pining
- she thinks they’re enemies
- only one bed
- they would die for eachother
- deal between the characters
- he brings her as his ‘human’ date to an elf party
- betrayal
- “touch her and you die”
- enemies to rivals to friends to lovers to enemies again to reluctant allies to lovers (ik its a lot but it’s always good🤭)

Obviously the book had quite a few shortcomings like a lack in world building, plotholes, the personalities of the characters etc. But the negatives arre outweighed by the positives in my opinion and still make up for an enjoyable read.

If you want something safe, with plot points that you know will always get good and urban-fantasy with an academic setting, this one will definitely do the job for you 💗

I read this at a time when I needed these exact vibes and so it enhanced my experience! Prince of the Sun was just what I needed to begin my August!☀️

But her Harvard dream isn’t about a typical education; Quinn uses her time there to spy on and learn as much as she can about the elves. Quinn chose Harvard to try and get close to Prince Daerios Ariar, known party boy and son of the leader of the elves, the Sun King. Soon the two become friends, and an undeniable connection grows. But both are keeping secrets that could change everything.
This book was a super fun read! The two main characters are easily likeable and their two best friends compliment their dynamic well. Both Quinn and Daerios experience significant personal growth throughout the story with the help of each other and the challenges they face. These challenges also help strengthen Quinn’s relationship with her roommate Cara, whom she had been trying to keep at arms length out of fear of losing another loved one. I loved the banter between all four of them, especially when Berendir and Cara tease Daerios and Quinn.
This book has everything - love, grief, friendship, humour, adventure, magic and spice. There was never a dull moment and this story kept me up late because it was so hard to stop reading.
The author included a TW list, detailed map, glossary and a list of all the different types of elves which were all very helpful!
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a standalone, spicy Romantasy with a modern setting.

Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me.

I went into Prince of the Sun really excited because the premise sounded like something I’d love, but I ultimately decided to DNF at 41%. While I can see why this book may work for other readers, I never found myself fully invested in the story.

The biggest hurdle for me was the writing style. It just didn’t click with me, which made it difficult to stay engaged and connect with what was happening. I also expected to be swept away by the plot, but instead it felt like it never quite found its footing. The pacing and story progression fell a bit flat for my personal tastes, and I struggled to feel invested in either the characters or where the story was headed.

This was very much a case of “it’s me, not the book.” I know plenty of readers will likely enjoy what Emma Noyes was aiming for, but after reaching 41%, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me, so I decided it was best to move on to something else.

You know how long its been since ive read a standalone? I've read maybe less than a handful. And theres nothing wrong with multibook series, but because jm so used to reading a series, its hard for my to gauge and assess appropriate pacing.

And the pacing in this was excellent. Slightly predictable, which wasn't to its detriment. It more piqued my curiosity of how this was going to play out. And this was like reading a romcom (but not SUPER comedic). It had all the elements of things I enjoy in my romantasies - one horse, one bed - but I loved too that it was smart. It packs a lot in a single book, with a whole language (or two, really), interplanetary political systems, and our main character, Quinn, who studied relentlessly to get into Harvard to spy on the elves to get revenge for her father's death and missing brother.

Not to mention the very vulnerable references and sections about the FMCs recovery of her ED, which she battles throughout the book, and our beloved MMC who sees it, validates it, and takes care of her without pushing or judgement.

Really fun read overall!

I started off really enjoying this book and found the writing so engaging that I couldn't put it down. The academia setting with a flair of "The Cruel Prince" was fun and silly. I loved the banter and tension between the two MC's right from the start. This author does a great job with the early pining/tension and anticipation. Unfortunately, about halfway through is where this lost me... once the characters got together it wasn't overly satisfying, I would have wanted an even slower burn personally... I found the decisions of the FMC to be very questionable at times, and she is supposed to be a brilliant Harvard student. The plot took a turn I wasn't expecting, and it wasn't executed the way I would have hoped to reel me back in.

Overall, this is a fun read and if you want a similar vibe to The Cruel Prince with a sillier undertone, I recommend giving this a try!

Initially, I wasn’t impressed with the FMC, Quinn. Her single-minded goal and drive to get it is absolutely inspiring but that intense focus… it has her missing the point of the things that are happening in the now. I wanted to shake my fists at her! Now, in steps the MMC and BAM! the world explodes into color. This power couple feels more organic than the typical romantasy books I find nowadays and it is utterly refreshing. I was 100% invested in this story and ended up reading it in one sitting. Highly recommend to readers that long for something with more depth in their fantasy romances.

Damn, this shit was so good!

My eyes were glued to the pages from the very first chapter to the very last. I read this entire book in one sitting- literally devouring every line, every word, every chapter. I kept telling myself I'd stop after one more chapter and then suddenly I was at the end.

I absolutely adored the real world Ivy League setting mixed with the fantasy elf elements. It felt so fresh. I love romantasy, but after a while a lot of the same tropes start to blur together. This book managed to stand out and felt like such a unique take. The balance between the college world and the fantasy world was done very well.

And I loved Quinn! She reminded me of myself in so many ways. Her fears, her hopes, and her personality just felt so easy to relate with. Daerious matched her fire perfectly. He was comforting, kind, SO patient, and so obviously in love with her. Every scene between them had me grinning.

Berendir and Cara were my two other favorites! Their humor made every scene they were in even better. They had me laughing throughout the entire book, and they added so much life to the story. The four way dynamic between all of them was great

Overall, this was such an amazing book. It was fun, emotional, addictive, and impossible to put down.

Prince of the Sun completely pulled me in! I loved the fantasy world, the characters, and the tension throughout the story. The romance had me hooked, and I’m always a sucker for good chemistry and a slow burn. ❤️‍🔥

There were twists I didn’t see coming, plenty of moments that had me stressed, and an ending that left me wanting MORE. Emma Noyes definitely has me invested in this world and whatever comes next!

Okay so I wasn't sold in the beginning but let me tell you, the character development in this book is ELITE. It's harrowing, it's romantic. If you like urban fantasy and cocky main characters this is going to be your favorite book of the year.

What a fun read!

I really enjoyed this one - lots of banter, lots of fun and plenty of twists.

I would definitely recommend checking the triggers though as there is a lot about ED within the book.
