Unearthly World #2

Zuri's Zargonnii Warrior

Rate this book
Zuri finds herself in the hands of a Zargonnii warrior after she and her shipmates are extracted from a strange world. Hunted by the heinous Tonan and sought after by the deadly Gorgano, Zuri is mortified when she realizes humans, especially female humans, are considered a rare, exotic novelty. She has no intention of being put on display for massive warriors to gawk at. She plans her escape.

Kobe grows fond of the little mouthy human female placed in his charge for the duration of the space flight home. Once they land, she will no longer be his problem. Everything changes in seconds when he finds her in the ship’s bay, hanging by a thread in a teetering space shuttle, bound on either self-destruction or escape. Without thought to his safety, Kobe jumps from the shuttle when Zuri falls out and plunges to the planet beneath.

Zuri has no idea what danger they are in as they embark on a perilous journey. Both know if they make it out of the jungle alive, they will be separated—unless Kobe can figure out a way to keep his new mate.

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.

I love this sci-fi series but I just wish the writing was a little better. I felt that a lot of events could have been better explained with more details. But I'm definitely going to keep reading. There is great potential here and the author has a great imagination and a real talent for world building.

I loved Kobe; he's just a big soft teddy bear who wants to love someone. When he finds Zuri, he's not sure what to make of her or her 2 companions. I was laughing so hard when he thought the 2 human guys were females...and when he thought Zuri's puking due to motion sickness was some kind of defense mechanism.

Great story!!!

This was a very good story. I loved both Zuri and Kobe and enjoyed their story a lot. This was a good addition to the series and I just realized that this is an off-shoot from another series (The New World series) so I may have to try that series soon.

Zuri is a human that escaped from a crumbling Earth but ended up on the wrong planet when her shuttle crashed. Her and the other survivors were left alone by the planet’s inhabitants but other aliens saw them as fair game and killed off some of her party while others died from bad food or sickness. Zuri and 2 men are the only survivors left when the Zargonnii show up intent on taking them to the Zargonnii home world.

Kobe is a Zargonnii warrior and is in space with others of his kind. Kobe is part of the Zargonnii men from the south part of the planet but they’ve heard about a human female mating with a Zargonnii male in the northern part of the planet. Some of the stories have made the Zargonnii men from the south curious so Kobe’s leader has decided to check out a planet they believe has humans to see fi the stories are true.

Kobe is the one that captures Zuri on the planet she and the others have been staying on. She fears the Zargonnii but Kobe manages to convince her that he could easily hurt her if he wanted and she’s safe with him. One of the aliens that attacked the human survivors on the planet (before the Zargonnii got there) was a race of telepathic aliens called the Gorgano. When they attacked Zuri found that her mind opened up and linked with them telepathically which gave her much information and allowed her to attack the Gorgano mentally and saving them from the Gorgano attack. Now Zuri found that some of the information she got was the ability to understand the Zargonnii language. This enabled her and Kobe to communicate to an extent but it takes a little bit before she’s able to speak the Zargonnii language (although she learns very fast because she can understand it). She’s given to Kobe to be kept safe on the trip back to the Zargonnii planet and she grows to like Kobe, finding he’s actually quite sweet…a gentle giant or sorts. Zuri wished she could stay with him but she’s been told there’s an area on the Zargonnii planet that’s been prepared from the humans to live in. Zuri doesn’t like the sounds of this though because it sounds more like a cage/zoo than a real home. Because of this, Zuri decides to escape even though she really likes Kobe.

When Zuri tries escaping she doesn't do a very good job and Kobe finds her. There’s a mess up and they both end up falling from the ship as its flying low over the planet. Fortunately the Zargonnii men are hard and almost indestructible and although their landing leaves a hole in the ground around 7 feet deep they come through mostly unharmed (Kobe used his body to protect Zuri in the landing). Unfortunately they've landed in the part of the Zargonnii planet that the females live in (the males and females of this race don’t interact except during sex) and it’s not safe for either of them to be there. They head for the male section of the planet but are left travelling through a harsh jungle for weeks with Kobe doing anything needed to keep Zuri safe. During this time they come together sexually and the longer they’re together the more they bond. Kobe decides he doesn’t care what his leader says, Zuri is his and he won’t let her be taken from him. They make it to the male area and meet Zane and Bay’s family (from book #1 Bay's Mercenary) and get transport to the south part of the continent. There’s an issue with the Gorgano’s kidnapping some Zargonnii females for experimentation and Zuri agrees to help save them since she’s able to do the mind battle with the Gorgano. This ends up being an interesting situation and a mis-understanding has Zuri separated from Kobe for a short time but things get straightened out quickly and they’re reunited. They get home and get to start their well-deserved HEA.

This was a really enjoyable story. I loved both Kobe and Zuri and was happy with how their story worked out. They’re a great couple and they have a great interaction that makes the story fun to read and engaging until the end. So far there’s no book#3 for the series but I’ll be keeping my eyes open for it because I definitely want to continue this series. I’d recommend this book. Thumbs up! :D

Purely an entertaining read. The story takes us on an adventure through weird settings.
The plot was thin. It's only goal was to get the characters together and get them away from danger. The story didn't ask any deep fundamental questions.

The characters weren't that deeply developed and the relationship between them didn't feel authentic. My impression is that Zuri would have ended up with any of the warriors. Given that she was in isolation and only came in contact with this warrior, that is THE ONLY reason they ended up together.

I also question the weird logistics behind humans coming into contact with Garano. It's too poorly explained to make me believe the strange telekinetic abilities that humans gain.

I rather enjoyed this sci-fi tale of unexpected love between species. Zuri escaped a destroyed Earth on a shuttle that then crashed on another planet. Zuri and her fellow passengers were saved from extermination by nasty alien slavers by Kobe and his men. Kobe is a 7 foot tall alien with red eyes and covered from head to toe except for a few areas (wink wink) in long white fur. Of course, Zuri is wary of this giant man-beast but comes to realize that he is a gentle giant and worth loving.

I haven't read the first book in the series but I definitely want to see where it all started. I loved Zuri and Kobe and their story was exciting.

Good book to enjoy a 'holiday' reading. Aliens are different and takes a little getting used to but I did warm up to them.

It's the Earth woman gets abducted, alien wants to mate, girl makes him work for it sort of theme. Definitely need to read the first book Bay's Mercenary before reading this one though.

I am officially addicted! GIVE ME MORE! Gosh I love these, and I can't wait for Finn's book, he's my favorite Zargonnii Warrior so far, yum!

These fit into my guilty pleasures category, they are a bit predictable though exciting and fun at the same time, and the world they live on is so unique - socially +environmentally. The characters are enjoyable and the love scenes steamy! I'd have one of these books for each day of the year if it were possible, haha.

RIDDLED with typos. And I'm sorry, author, but that sentence does not mean what you think it means... XD

Like a soap-bubble it distracts the eye and then pops, leaving the world unchanged by its presence... but soap-bubbles are pleasing occasionally, so I'll be back for more, dun worry~

Plot:

Zuri, one of the last remaining female human survivors of the destroyed planet Earth, is captured with her group by Zargonnii warriors that had gone on the hunt for human females after the discovery of Bay (from Book 1). Once captured, she is placed under the supervision of the warrior Kobe who is fascinated by her. While the two familiarize themselves with each other, Zuri hatches a plan to escape from the Zargonnii. However, her machinations ultimately prove unsuccessful as in the middle of her escape, Kobe catches her and both fall from the ship into hostile territory.

Thoughts:

This was a fun little addition to the series, but after overcoming my infatuation with the first book, I'm starting to see many more flaws with the plot and the world building. The author is for sure creative when it comes to the world of the Zargonnii - everything from their appearance to their habits and ways of living were super fun to explore and learn about. However, one of the powers that the author has given the Zargonnii includes the ability to set things on fire with their eyes - with such a powerful ability, it makes no sense that it is practically not used at all whenever Kobe is in danger. It's like the author gave him that ability just for the hell of it, but never has him utilize it because then he would become too powerful, and there would be no more obstacles for him. I also wished that the speech patterns of the Zargonni were more unique to them. They are aliens after all - it makes no sense that they sound like how a human would speak.

I think that after reading this book and the previous one in the series, I am more interested in the female Zargonnii than the main characters. Zuri and Kobe are okay, but there's not enough depth to them to have me actually become invested in their story and relationship. But the female Zargonniis on the other hand - that's a different story. The two that have been introduced so far in both books have been mysterious and only made a short appearance. But their lives are so hidden and unknown that I'm curious to read more - and they just sound so badass that I cannot help but want to read their side of the story too.

There were some seriously funny moments in this book. Moments where I was literally laughing out loud and poking my wife in the shoulder to share excerpts.

This was real close to the beginning, so I don't think it counts as spoilers. It set the tone for some great language barrier banter through the first few chapters.

Kobe smiled brighter. Moron must be a word for great strength. “Yes I am this—a moron. A great warrior moron.”
Her eyes widened in stunned surprise. “Dumb ass.”
Excitement filled him, she must be very impressed with him. He struggled with her words for a second. “I will be your dumb—ass—moron protector.” Surely that must make her feel better.

Jokes aside, Kobe was a very sweet character, and Zuri and him made an adorably devoted couple. I was also happy to see more glimpses into the culture of the Zargonnii females.

I'm getting hooked on this series... I'm so glad I picked it up, even though I didn't like the first book of this author's previous series. So very glad.

Well, the second book of the Unearthly world might not be as entertaining as the first one, but it was still pretty good. The were some funny moments (like the Zargonnii thinking that Leo and Cash were females, because didn't look like males to them), but not to the same extent as in the first book. Nevertheless, the writing was good and I like that here we get the chance to learn more about Zargonnii planet and their culture
I'm interested in reading about other Zargonnii males looking for their own little human females, but I'm also wondering if there's a book or separate series about the Castians. Something to look into, that's for sure.

So the fun of "it's a pet" is gone. These Zaronnii Warriors know that humans are compatible even if that do not look so. This is alien scifi romance erotic where the alien is very different looking. There is no need for "females" as they have a society that works for offspring in there world, just not to the liking of some once they find the Earthlings. So the Zrgonni are trying to save these creatures that incite their mating instincts. For Zuri, she isn't sure she wants to be in this position so she tries run. It ends up being a pretty good story to keep you interested while trampling through dangers of his wild planet. A fun read but not quite as good as the first.

I enjoyed this book. I had an idea of what to expect from the characters after reading the first book, and though predictable, it was still a really enjoyable read. I loved all of the alone time they had together as they traveled through the jungle, and i was really pleased by the appearance of Kobe's mother. Very enjoyable continuation to the series.

Ordinary Sci-Fi Romance.

I like the Zargonii. I really liked Kobe. I'm a bit on the fence about what to think about Zuri.

Still an intriguing new world and decent romance.

This one was just as good as the first novel in the series Bay's Mercenary! If you want to read my thoughts on that book click here This one I feel like was a bit more funnier than the previous one, I definitely caught myself giggling at different points throughout the book.

If you haven't read the first book basically this series is about the Zargonnii finding humans. They aren't specific on when this takes place but Earth is no longer habitable, hence the reason that aliens are stumbling upon groups of humans trying to find refuge somewhere else. By the way, that isn't a spoiler! On the first few pages both books make it very very clear the state of Earth.

There are some parts of this book that I wish had some more detail and went more in depth. This was one of my complaints on the previous book, just because things are so interesting that I want to know more! C.L. Scholey kind of glimpses over certain spots (for example the beginning before they come into contact with the Zargonnii) that I feel like would be so so so interesting if she just took the time to go into more detail. However, even with that complaint I still really like the series.

This series is something so new and refreshing to me. C.L. Scholey created such a unique universe that I've kinda sorta fallen in love with. The Zargonnii are a very interesting race, with how they look and their capabilities and also their social dynamics when it comes to the males and females of this race. Like I mentioned, how they look is very different from the other alien books I've read. Other alien books have the males looking basically human and extra hot but these aliens don't necessarily look like that. Usually that would throw me off and I wouldn't be that interested but even with such differences I was still invested in this series.

If you think how they look might put you off of this series, still read the book! I really enjoyed this series because of all the different dynamics going on and the characters are so likable. Even the character that at first you're dubious about, trust me you'll probably end up liking them too. I'm really excited to see where this series leads me and what is next to come!

I've started posting more on my blog so be sure to check it out!
