Linda Thompson was born in Washington, D. C., and grew up in the Maryland suburbs. Perhaps this accounts for her love of culture and all things historical. She is an East Coast girl through-and-through, who loves the ocean! To her, there is no more soothing sound than the kiss of the surf as it reaches the sand.

Linda's love of reading and particularly the Regency Era began during her long bus commutes in junior high school. During her last year in junior high, she was introduced to what would become her two favorite books: Gone With the Wind and Pride and Prejudice. Her first attempt at writing was a sequel to Gone With the Wind at the age of sixteen.

Though writing was always something she enjoyed, Linda's career of choice was that of Administrative Assistance. Oddly enough, she always found a need to create a company newsletter for each of her employers.

She currently makes her home in Denton, Texas. She has been married to her husband, Jim, for 27 years and has had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for her three children for the last seventeen years.

You will often find her engrossed in a good book--usually JAFF or other historical fiction. She also loves to bake, cook, scrapbook, dance (She was a classically trained ballet dancer for thirteen years.), and travel. Now the joy of writing fills up much of her time.

As a glance at her blog would indicate, Linda adores spring flowers. She took the pictures that adorn the page. As other reviews tell us there is much repeating of parts of this story. The beginning was interesting but then things began to drag.

Yes, Elizabeth's laughter is mentioned...over and over again. First Darcy hears it just after Elizabeth has thwarted Wickham's (first) attempt to kidnap Georgiana (to hold her for ransom). This happens in London while E. is visiting the Gardiners. Moving on, Ramsgate is not presented as an elopement but as another attempt by W. to kidnap Georgiana - this time Darcy saves her.

Five years after the first event and during the Meryton Assembly Darcy hears Elizabeth's laughter and is reminded of Georgiana's savior. This leads to his bringing Georgiana to also stay at Netherfield and a friendship between Elizabeth and Georgiana.

Caroline is especially nasty towards Elizabeth and eventually Charles sends her back to London. But that is not the last we read of her. Wickham also reappears and AGAIN tries to carry Georgiana AND Elizabeth off. (Wickham, in spying on Darcy, realizes Darcy's feelings towards E. and would like nothing better than to harm both ladies as he knows how it would affect Darcy.

This is the first of three stories. This first one ends with plans for Elizabeth (and Jane) to stay in London with the Gardiners so that they can experience life among the ton and realize fully what they might be getting into if they marry Darcy (and Bingley). Wickham is not out of the picture so I would expect he is going to show up again. Plus Caroline is living in London so I imagine we also will hear more about/from her.

The idea for this variation is a good one. A young Elizabeth Bennet (age 15), in London's Hyde Park with her aunt for the first time, thwarts an attempt by Mr. Wickham to kidnap Georgiana. Darcy and his sister spot her from afar soon after, and he hears Elizabeth's distinctive laughter. Although they're not able to get close enough to introduce themselves and thank her, Darcy retains the memory of that laugh.

Five years later, Wickham makes another attempt to take Georgiana at Ramsgate, which Darcy prevents. As in canon, Darcy goes to Netherfield a few months later and formally meets Elizabeth. Unlike canon, he does dance with her once he recognizes her laugh. It doesn't take long to confirm that she was the young lady who saved his sister, and he arranges for Colonel Fitzwilliam to bring Georgiana and her companion. Meanwhile, Mr. Wickham has come to Meryton, having been encouraged to join the militia by Mr. Denny. But he sees Georgiana, does NOT join, and instead finds a place to hide from Darcy and spy on them.

There's lots more going on at Netherfield, because Caroline Bingley is the equivalent of the cartoon Wile E. Coyote with Elizabeth the (oblivious) Road Runner. Caroline makes various attempts to discredit or injure her rival, trying to prevent Darcy from paying too much attention to the country chit. They all backfire and lead him to be even more impressed with Elizabeth and more disgusted with Caroline.

There are some unique plot ideas here, but they don't always mesh together that well. Something happens, is dealt with, and then something else happens. The villainous deeds by Wickham and Caroline occur independently, and if you omitted any of them, it wouldn't change the rest of the book.

There's a lack of understanding of Regency manners. Early on, Darcy is noticing how sweet Elizabeth is to dance with everyone who asks her. But she would be obliged not to refuse any offers because that would require her to sit out all the dances for the rest of the night.

The logic is lacking, too. For example, considering how early Wickham recognizes Darcy's interest in Elizabeth and how closely he watches them, why doesn't he take advantage of her frequent walks alone?

Characters are inconsistent. Darcy dances with Elizabeth twice at the Meryton assembly, and she is meeting with Georgiana regularly to work on music together. Mrs. Bennet would have noticed this immediately and pushed Elizabeth in Darcy's direction rather than bothering with Mr. Collins.

The writing isn't great. Any Regency romance that features the very modern "okay" and multiple "alright"s (which is NOT one word but two, all right?) is not very Regency. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the book. Also, it's full of irrelevant details and repetition. Anytime something consequential happens, it's recounted multiple times by one character to another. Similar sentences turn up, such as that Darcy has never met anyone like Elizabeth, and that Darcy has never heard anyone else with such a musical-sounding laugh.

This is the first book in a trilogy and ends with Darcy and Elizabeth in a formal courtship. He's headed for London with Georgiana, but Elizabeth will be there soon. She will stay with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner, and the idea is for her to attend balls and social events to experience the ton. Mr. Bennet wants her to understand what becoming Mrs. Darcy will entail and decide whether she can stand up to (and whether she can stand!) the scrutiny from those in Darcy's sphere. Wickham hasn't been caught and Caroline is in London, so one assumes they will continue their evil plotting against Our Dear Couple.

I'd originally intended to re-read this to refresh my memory and then continue on with the rest of the trilogy. The last time I read this was almost 3 years ago, and I'd recalled some of the more unique scenes but forgotten about all the book's flaws. I'm not interested enough to go on to #2 or #3.

In this Pride and Prejudice variation 15 year old Elizabeth Bennet is visiting the Gardiners. While walking in Hyde Park she foils a kidnap attempt by Wickham on Georgiana Darcy. All Darcy can remember is Elizabeth's curls and her laugh. Until at the Meryton Assembly he hears the same laugh.... Unfortunately I found Elizabeth to be irritatingly near perfect.
An enjoyable variation, a re-read.

Bland & Repetitive

Synopsis:

A 15 year old Lizzy foils Wickys attempt to kidnap Georgiana for ransom at Hyde park.
description
Darcy doesn't have a chance to thank her as she is swiftly carted away by Mrs Gardiner, but she makes an impression on him, having caught her laughter and moved by her heroism & generosity.

Later that week he catches sight and sound of her but fails to catch up to her for an introduction and convey his thanks.

Wicky tries to kidnap Georgie again but it was foiled by Darcy ( instead of the elopement.)

Then Darcy arrives in Hertfordshire during the canon timeframe, and we see how his recognition of Lizzy changes his manners and disposition towards her.

What Depressed:

✗Bland dialogue. Chunky dialogue sequences that don't move story forward, letters that contain useless or recycled info. The language was at times a bit modern, in sentence structure and words.

✗Lizzy's sick room has a revolving door, 'come one, come all,' policy and this is abused for the time period. She might as well have set up shop in the drawing room.

✗Ridiculous villains! Wickham & Caroline are the Wile E. Coyote to Lizzy’s Road Runner. I'm pretty sure the type of tea Caro served to Lizzy was manufactured by Acme. I could viscerally hear Hanna Barbara background tunes and sound effects whenever Wickham stalked behind bushes and subsequently when his little ploys & hijinks were dashed.
description
✗Lizzy and Darcy have zero personality- actually no one in the story has much personality or depth.

The Brass Tacks:
I am a terminal sucker for the trope of 'Darcy caught a glimpse of Lizzy years prior' stories, and so the premiss reeled me in, but the writing renders it bland, repetitive, soulless, and unromantic.

Darcy for being much surer of his ability to wed and resolving to do so, still takes a snail pace in announcing his intentions, and feels there is still a need for courtship?? She took a bullet for you bruh, I think you may proceed to the alter assured.

At 75% I checked the GRs page of this and could not believe this story was stretched to two additional installments- absolutely bananas! There was so little of interest going on and being dragged out as was! So thats when I peaced.
description

📎If you liked this, you might like Memory: Volume 1, Lasting Impressions: A Tale Of Pride And Prejudice. Similar premiss of Darcy catching sight of Lizzy earlier and falling for her smile and laughter, but here the hesitation on his side makes sense and is not drawn out, the dialogue & characters have personality, and it is not dreadfully repetitive.

According to Goodreads I have never previously read this book; nor had I started it and wandered away, yet I had the strangest sense of deja vu during my read.

This is a retelling of P&P with less P&P for Darcy and Lizzy, a deranged Miss Bingley and a Bond villain version of Wickham. Lizzy is a curious version; she is part Wonder Woman and part neurotic, weepy, self loathing, self effacing, weak female. She will stand up to someone in one scene and in the next weep and apologize to someone. It is completely illogical.

There is a lot of OOC behavior. And it seems that everyone is very good or VERY BAD but there is no in between. Jane Bennet is like a mildly stupid Greek Chorus her only purpose is to say sweet things and be demure. In a book of this length I would like to see Jane actually get a personality.

But you see the length is needed because there is such an excess of expository dialogue. At several points you are treated to almost word for word repetitions. One example is when Lizzy makes plans with Miss Darcy and then relays the entire plan back to Jane. There is lots of awkward over explaining and it is awkward. People in RL don't talk like that.

The story begin immediately following the death of Mr. Darcy Sr. One thing that really bugged me was when Lizzy is visiting the Gardiners and in one of her TMI speeches she tells Aunt Gardiner that Lydia and Kitty are flirts. Lizzy is 15 which means Lydia is 10 and Kitty 11. Who were a 10 and 11 year old flirting with? They shouldn't have been out of the school room. If two children are behaving flirtatiously that is disturbing and horrifying. This is just lazy on the part of the author.

Enjoyed reading this, but at the time I purchased it, I hadn't realized it was the first of 3 (or 4?)
The continuing books are WAY expensive and I am not sure I loved the book enough to invest in them.

Reread 4.9.2021- just as good and very goody goody characters (aside from Wickham and Caroline of course).

This Pride and Prejudice variation starts with an extra scene where Elizabeth interacts with the Darcys as a young girl, although she doesn't actually meet them. Darcy overhears her laughing and it becomes a happy memory. Fast forward five years and Darcy is pleasantly surprised to hear the laugh that he remembers. This ensures that there is little to no angst between our dear couple. Instead this is added by a particularly nasty Caroline Bingley, George Wickham, and Mrs Bennet.

The story is an easy read with a greater role for Georgiana and the bringing Mary into the close sister group (which I am always a fan of). I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Her Unforgettable Laugh: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Wonderful story filled with want and desire. The first time Darcy sees Elizabeth is when she stopped the kidnapping of his young sister, Georgiana. She, Jane, and her Aunt Gardiner were walking in Hyde Park. Elizabeth witnessed the abduction and told her Aunt and Jane to help the older lady while Elizabeth took of at a run to help the young girl. Managing to thwart the gentleman until help arrives, Darcy is seen helping both to stand. Comforting Georgiana, Darcy misses the chance to thank her as she and her Aunt entered the carriage. All he heard was her unforgettable laugh she gave her about aunt about she was so
un-ladylike chasing after the little girl and the man that snatched her. Shortly thereafter, the Gardiners take Elizabeth and Jane to the theatre and Darcy hears her unforgettable laugh again. As he turns, they look each other in the eye and smile. Beginning to move towards her, he is stopped by Caroline, Bingley, and the Hursts. Aggravated, he ignores Caroline's hints about sitting in his box. After, he tries to find her in the crowd not seeing her, but hearing her unforgettable laugh. Fast forward five years and Bingley has rented Netherfield and Darcy comes to visit. The night of the Meryton Assembly, Darcy hears that tinkling unforgettable laugh. Drawn towards the sound, he sees Bingley being introduced to six women. Nothing the bouncing dark brown curls and again the laugh, he quickly heads towards Bingley to be introduced. When he realizes that she is the one that helped Georgiana, he asks her to dance twice that night and spent the rest of the time speaking to her when she didn't have a partner. It didn't take him long to be drawn into her spell, not that she was trying, but both realized they had similar interests. Caroline Bingley was jealous beyond sense, and vowed to get rid of her one way are the other. She also contemplated to compromise herself with Darcy. She invites the eldest Bennet daughters for tea telling the men that tea was at four. They find out the tea was at three and showed up to protect they Bennets from whatever she has in store for Jane and Elizabeth. Caroline fixes everyone's tea, but Darcy notices that Elizabeth's tea took a bit longer to fix than the others. Watching Elizabeth's reaction to her tea, convinces him Caroline has done something to Elizabeth's tea. He comes to sit near her and puts his tea cup by hers, and when he picks her tea cup up instead of his, Caroline bursts out that he had taken her cup. When he sees that her tea had sour milk in it he says something to Caroline. Realizing she's been caught, she pours another cup and as she hands it to Elizabeth, pretending to stumble spills the hot tea in Elizabeth's lap. Mrs. Hurst, who has gotten tired of her sister's machinations, takes Elizabeth upstairs to get her cleaned up. Mr. Hurst looks like he's going pop his buttons. He has hated Caroline ever since he knew Louisa, and this is the woman he met during their courtship and early marriage. Well, prouder than punch he begins to woo his wife back from her sister's influence. The next time she hurts Elizabeth is when she and Georgiana go for a ride. Inviting herself along, when they stop to get off and rest, Miss Bingley says she's noticed the girth was loose and as she fixes it, puts a thorn under the saddle so when Elizabeth regains her seat the thorn pierces the horse's skin. The second time the horse reared, Elizabeth was unseated and fell on her rear and immediately was rendered unconscious. The man, Gregson, that was hired to protect Georgiana, comes to their aid. When Miss Bingley passed him, her look was one of supreme satisfaction. When he tries to see if anything is broken, as he stands Georgiana notices the blood on his clothes. By this time Darcy had arrived and she's handed to Darcy and he returns to Netherfield and rushes her to a room. Caroline is angry, because Darcy brought her to Netherfield instead of Longbourn. Gregson had gone to the stables just as the groom was removing the saddle of the horse she rode. Finding the thorn, both knew it was impossible for the thorn to be there underneath the blanket. That night, Caroline brought Elizabeth tea and was adamant about drinking the tea, Darcy knows something is wrong. When Elizabeth told her she just had tea, Darcy says he'll drink it because she went to the trouble to make it. After arguing with Darcy, as he starts to drink, in a flourishing movement her hand knocks the cup from his hand. He manages to keep some of the liquid in the cup. As the colonel tastes the leftover liquid, he spits into the fireplace. When Darcy comments, Fitzwilliam tells him to taste it. Mimicking his cousin, Darcy takes a taste and proceeds to spit into the fireplace. He knows exactly what was in the cup - horse chestnuts. When everything comes out about the "accident" and the tea incident, Darcy demands that Bingley do something to Caroline. Elizabeth isn't safe with her around. Bingley calls her on the carpet, but the really insulting remark comes from Darcy when he tells her she could be completely naked in his room with hundreds of witnesses and he would NOT marry her. She is sent home to Bingley's townhouse where his Aunt and Uncle Bingley are staying. She will have not carriage, extra money, no appointments at the modiste, and can go nowhere without a chaperone. When everything comes out about the "accident," Darcy demands that Bingley do something with Caroline. She is so delusional that she may have to be institutionalize. Wickham since knowing Darcy was in Meryton, has been planning how to get even with Darcy. He plans to enjoy Elizabeth's virtues so that Darcy will longer what her, kill her, marry Georgiana, then Darcy will meet with an unfortunate accident, and then Pemberley and all Darcy's wealth will be his. Catching the two girls walking in the garden, Wickham knocks out Grayson out, grabs Georgiana, and threatens Elizabeth. He has Elizabeth tie Georgiana's hands behind her back and feet. He shoves a rag in her mouth so she can't scream. When Elizabeth pushes her back at Wickham, Wickham lets her drop, then smacked Elizabeth's face rendering her dazed. He picks up Georgiana and begins to run. Elizabeth is cognizant enough and chases after him. Georgiana begins to kick and squirm causing Wickham to drop her and run like the hounds of HELL are chasing him when Darcy calls his name. Elizabeth being between the two, turns towards Darcy as Wickham shoots. Elizabeth falls as Darcy brings Georgiana back up. They see that Elizabeth has been shot. He unites Georgiana as Grayson stumbles towards them. Darcy picks up Elizabeth and carries her to the bedroom she used before. Someone goes for the apothecary. The ladies are cleaning her and trying to stop the bleeding. She has lost a lot of blood and Darcy is scared out of his mind that Elizabeth will die. When Mr. Jones comes out of the room, he tells Darcy it is a flesh wound but since she's lost a lot of blood, it will be important for someone to be with her to watch for fever. Mr. Bennet and Jane come to Netherfield. Jane stays to care for Elizabeth. Fever overtakes Elizabeth. It is rather high and Darcy worries not being able to sleep or eat. Mrs. Bennet is an idiot. She comes to Netherfield to yell at Elizabeth ands tells her to come home, because Mr. Collins wants to talk to her. Well, she does not until Mr. Jones says it is okay to go back to Longbourn. When she gets there, between Mrs. Bennet and Mr. Collins, Darcy levels both of them. Mr. Bennet tells Collins to leave his home and never come back. Then Mrs. Bennet is taken into his library and he levels her for her behavior and treatment of Lizzy. Collins leaves Longbourn and goes back to Hunsford. His Aunt writes the most hateful letter imaginable. At first Darcy wants to burn it, but Fitzwilliam tells him he's sure the Earl would be anxious to read this. The Netherfield Ball quickly arrived. Mr. Bennet reminded his wife and two daughters if they misbehave, they would escorted home. Josh enough Darcy and Georgiana leave for London, Darcy reminds her they will see each other soon. Elizabeth wonders when had he become the center of her life. She would miss him dearly. End of book 1.

2.5 stars, rounded up. This is a partial Pride and Prejudice variation, the first in a series of three books, and in spite of that, it's quite long. The book is not a stand-alone, so in order to get the whole story, one must read all three books. This variation gives Lizzy quite a different and active role, as a proactive and courageous young woman, from the start. I like the idea, which sets her up as Georgiana's rescuer from Wickham, early on.

My biggest complaint about it, aside from it's length, is its redundancy. Some of the same stories are retold to various characters, even though the reader already knows about them, when it seems to me it would have been better to say, after the first time the reader was presented with something, simply that Darcy told Lizzy Wickham's history, for example, or that he told someone about the first rescue of his sister. Instead, it's all retold again and again, to various characters.

The problem characters of the original story are taken to extremes here. This seems to be a current trend in Pride and Prejudice variations, so maybe it's popular with other readers, to make Wickham much worse, much more violent than in the original story, to make Miss Bingley seem ready for Bedlam, and to make others much worse than their originals as well, so that instead of it being an interplay of quite different and sometimes difficult personalities, a variety of personalities, some of which Jane Austen might actually have encountered in her lifetime, it seems like a parade of the most extreme portrayals of people, all either very good or very evil, and the villains' actions seem to go too far. For me, this doesn't add drama, but melodrama.

I'm torn whether to read the remaining two books in the series, even though there is a lot of romantic appeal to this one, and I do care about this Lizzy and Darcy. It was well-written and well-edited, except for some of the punctuation choices and the lack of, or placement of, dialog tags, as well as the aforementioned redundancies, polarized characterization, and melodrama. I just wish it had not gone so far with some of these problems, and yet made so little progress with the story line.

While all of the above annoys me, I do find the story compelling and romantic. Most of this book, by the way, takes place in Hertfordshire. The next book takes us to London.

Loved this one

The first book of this series connects our beloved couple long before the original, which makes for an interesting and very different story. The usual suspects are vindictive and dangerous, so it is also an exciting tale.

A sweet love story

To be fair, I must state that this is a serial, so there is a cliffhanger.

This P&P variation starts out 3 wks after Mr Darcy's (senior) death. Mr Darcy (junior) has brought his sister to London to finalize business, and make the unwanted exchange with Mr Wickham. Mr Wickham is more ruthless and conniving in this serial. He is determined to get what he believes he is owed. With that said, he is also the means to bringing ODC to each other's notice that much sooner, even if they still don't meet until the time at the Assembly Ball (canon).

Because of the near meeting, Mr Darcy is left with a very favorable impression and can not forget her melodic laugh. He is more sweet and receptive to Elizabeth that you just have to say "ahhhhhh". He is very protective of her and has none of the arrogance that is his norm, unless he is face to face with Miss Bingley!!!

Elizabeth is so adorable, she is her canon self in essence but is more courageous and just does what feels natural when she assists a young girl in need of help in Hyde Park. When she meets Mr Darcy again at the Assembly, she doesn't have the prejudices like in canon.

Mrs Bennet and Miss Bingley are truly their horrid selves but exacerbated!!! Mrs Bennet is just nasty to Elizabeth and is so blind to the attentions Elizabeth gets from the Darcy siblings, it's unbelievable!! Miss Bingley is ruthless and does not take "no" for an answer, especially when it comes to Mr Darcy. She will stop at nothing to get "her" man.

This first book was well done, though I noted some grammatical errors, but nothing to horrible that you can't decider the meaning of what's being said.

I would recommend the story to all JAFFers, it is an easy and enjoyable read!!

Pretty good

For such an expensive book, I was expecting a lot more. These stories that have Elizabeth and Darcy meeting earlier than the original version, and in a positive way, are sweet and romantic in that Darcy is predisposed to like Elizabeth, and their road to falling in love lacks all the acrimony of the original P&P, when Darcy finally makes his way to Hertfordshire and the Meryton assembly. In this version, Elizabeth saves Georgiana from being kidnapped by Wickham 5 years before meeting Darcy at the assembly. They dance at the assembly and are quickly drawn to one another.

Darcy is quite the lover boy here, with his intense looks and abundance of compliments to Elizabeth. Elizabeth is quite the coquette with her frequent blushes, laughter, and breathless words. It seems Darcy is not at all worried about raising expectations with her, or how his behavior is perceived by the neighborhood. Bingley and Jane, too, have an easy time of coming to an understanding because Darcy isn't about to object when he's too busy courting Elizabeth.

However, there are villains aplenty, and they are doozies! Caroline Bingley is just shy of being insane. For once, we have a story where Darcy and Bingley confront Caroline directly, and in no uncertain terms, about Darcy's refusal to ever choose her for a wife. But does this stop her machinations? Oh no! Caroline resorts to some criminal activities to attempt removing Elizabeth from the picture. Then there's Wickham, who also has murderous intent in his quest to get his hands on Darcy's money and even his estate, Pemberly. Then, Mrs.Bennett, in a bid for worst mother ever, is forever lashing Elizabeth with verbal abuse, to the extent that I would imagine Elizabeth would need some heavy counseling. Lastly, Mr. Collins, in league with Mrs. Bennett, is trying to annoy us all to death with his blind insistence that Elizabeth will marry him, in spite of everyone's assertions to the contrary.

The story is well written, but it ends rather abruptly after the Netherfield ball. This, or course, begs another installment of the story, which would be fine except for the price of each of these books. They are far TOO EXPENSIVE! I'd say most series written this way are less than half the cost of this one, and some of them are much better. This author needs to rethink her price tags.

*This is book 1 of a series*

The premise for this variation is that Elizabeth and Darcy had semi-met before their encounter in Hertfordshire. Elizabeth had helped rescue Georgiana, but neither Georgiana nor Darcy had managed to get her name, only hearing her laugh at a comment as she left. Darcy remembers her laugh for years until he hears it again at the Meryton assembly. Upon hearing it, he goes and introduces himself, setting up a developing story line where the two get to know each other.

Georgiana is more present in this book but I can't say that she has been developed much yet. I look forward to the next few books in the series to see if she develops more. I like the way the author is shaping her character but the focus has been primarily on Darcy and Elizabeth.

Wickham is much worse in this book but Caroline Bingley gives him a run for his money. While the changes in Wickham are more dramatic, they make sense with his character. Caroline Bingley is just wackadoodle. The things she gets up to are plausible but they are taken to a level I wouldn't expect from her character. However, it does make for a dramatic story line.

This is a high-angst book, but not between Darcy and Elizabeth. There's a lot of drama going on and several injuries but the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth develops well. Most of the drama is focused on them instead of between them. I can't say the other characters are forced into the story line, but I feel like the author doesn't give them enough book time at points (but that may just be me because I kind of like seeing how everyone changes in the variations). The characters outside of the ones I mentioned above are pretty much the same as the original book.

So far I'm really liking this variation series. It's highly dramatic but the relationship developing with Elizabeth and Darcy is enough to balance it out enough to keep my interest. I look forward to the development of Georgiana and to see how the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth progresses. Would definitely recommend for variations readers who like a really evil Wickham, want to see Caroline Bingley get her comeuppance (I hope!), or like variations that are Darcy and Elizabeth united against the world.

I borrowed this book from KU on 26/01/2025

I must say, I really enjoyed this book!

As you can imagine from the title laughter is a central plot device used throughout.

The story begins with a daring rescue by a younger version of our heroine and before proper thanks can be given, she leaves, leaving behind nothing for Darcy but the melodious sound of her laughter.

5 years pass and Darcy has not forgotten the sound of the laughter when he here's it again at an assembly in Hertfordshire. There is no insult! Darcy does not put his foot in his mouth but spends his time wisely wooing Elizabeth.

But is not all smooth sailing from there!

There are a lot of villians in this story!

Wickham in this story line is a lot more desperate. I particularly enjoyed the change of the events prior to the novel amd the differences in the Ramsgate event.

This Caroline Bingley is delusional and very crafty, she shows a cunning in this book that is absent in other variations - like how she got herself back to Netherfield!

Lady Catherine. Wow. What can I say after that letter??

Mr Collins, less page time for Mr Collins in this variation but more was not needed to let you know he is not a mam to be trusted! I fully expect that he will make a return I the next book of the series!

Her Unforgettable Laugh: Book l

Very enjoyable story with an unfortunate beginning as Lizzy saves Georgiana Darcy from being kidnapped. Also unfortunate, Darcy was not able to thank her for saving his sister, but her laugh jolted his senses. Seeing her again at the opera, her laugh again stirs his soul. Five years later, her laugh during the Meryton Assembly triggers his memories and awakens his heart. Pleased to be reunited with his sister’s savior, Darcy is so happy that he dances twice with her, spends several dance times speaking with her, and completely ignores Caroline Bingley. Needless to say, Caroline is less than pleased as she has declared Darcy as her own. When Caroline tries to endanger Elizabeth, Darcy confronts Bingley with the facts of Elizabeth’s riding accident caused by Caroline. Both Bingley and Darcy confront her and she is sent packing. Meanwhile, Wickham again enters the picture. This time he decides to take Georgiana to Scotland, marry her, and then get rid of Darcy giving him the riches of Pemberley. Once again, Lizzy thwarts his plans. Caroline sneaks back into Netherfield for the ball, but her plans are stopped. Plans halted, but not forgotten. Story continued in Book 2.

Nice start of the series

In the story, Elizabeth saves Georgiana from being kidnapped by Wickham several years prior to Canon. Darcy didn’t have a chance to thank her as her aunt and sister quickly left the park, but he heard her laugh and that imprinted in his mind. Fast forward to Canon and at the assembly he hears her laugh and wonders if this is the same lady and during a dance and questions, they discover that yes it is. Darcy with this discovered connection and desire to know Elizabeth more, he is less judgmental of those those in the area. With Bingley and Hurst’s help Miss Bingley is removed from the area after she displays many bad behaviors (her list keeps growing). Wickham makes his appearance again and I am sure he will show back up and book 2 or three. I do like how Mr. Bennet stands up to his wife and younger daughters near the end and hope that will continue in the future books. Will I read or listen to this again? I will know after I finish the other two books but is it nice start to the series.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars

Somehow I was not expecting this book to have such an abrupt ending. The author or publisher chose not to indicate that all three books are required to complete the story. I expected three related stories where each is complete on its own.

My only other “nit” is the amount of grammatical/editing errors, many of which were distracting and disrupted the flow.

This is a very enjoyable story that gives W. his punishment and (temporarily) gives Miss Bingley a well-deserved time-out. The Bennett, especially Mrs. B and Lydia, have character that is true to canon. This is also true of Lady Catherine, the Gardiners, and the Fitzwilliam.

Recommended.

A fun story to go with the unforgettable laugh

This story was just offered in the KU program so I had to read it. Glad I did. For readers who enjoy a quicker resolution between Darcy and Elizabeth, this story is for you. Darcy hears Elizabeth’s laugh during an incident with Georgiana and after a near miss of meeting each other, they finally meet at the Meryton assembly when Darcy hears her unforgettable laugh.

For those that don’t like complete smooth sailing, there is a bit of evil Wickham thrown in. And, be ready to read on in this series because while this book ends in a good place, it is definitely to be continued.

Emotionally charged interesting intriguing emotional funny

What an incredible relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Looking for the Cinderella type story, not here! Looking for an interesting beginning to a adventurous middle to the continued courtship, than look no further.
Caroline is horrible, but she finds help within the "ton", but I'm impressed with the Guests and Bingley. Collins is sillier than ever, but Darcy is strong and caring (no sillines). Mr B is questionable, Mrs B stinks.
This storyline will have you asking for more. Not easily put down until do e. Highly recommended for anyone to read

Good story!

Pride & Prejudice variation where Elizabeth saved Georgiana from a kidnapping at the hands of Wickham. Darcy was unable to thank her at the time, but he heard her laugh. He heard the same laugh at an event and was unable to make an acquaintance with her. 5 years later, he hears that same unforgettable laugh at the Meryton Assembly and finally gets the chance to thank her for rescuing Georgiana and to begin to build a relationship. Sweet story!

A Different Take on Pride and Prejudice..

This is an alternate take of the Famous Couple.

I don't want to list any spoilers.

Overall, an entertaining read that I enjoyed and I am interested in the rest of the series.

Nancy Peterson did really well with the narration.

Unforgetable

Really enjoyed book 1 in this series. The plot draws the reader into the story right from the beginning to the end. The sweet relationship between Darcy his sister and Elizabeth grows despite the obstacles that come between them and there's plenty! Can't wait to read next book!

Fun story, though there are some plot holes, such as how Mrs Bennet failed to notice a rich single gentleman dancing twice with one of her daughters, and how the villain of the piece saw Elizabeth walking alone often but never took advantage of the situation. Definitely needs an editor--holy typos, Batman!

This is a really good book, could not stop reading it until I reached the end. It has the perfect amount of drama and romance.

I recommend it as a real interesting and exhilarating variation of Pride and Prejudice. You will absolutely enjoy this book.

Talented author

Ms. Thompson has an excellent talent for portraying the protagonists-hateful Caroline, evil Wickham, ridiculous Collins, and haughty Lady Catherine. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of this author's variations!

Overall, good book

For the most part I really enjoyed this book. In some area the story was a little unbelievable. Like a plot from an action movie. I enjoyed this variation very much. It’s a new idea that I have not read before. In that way, it’s original.

Entertaining read

Interesting variation that is well written with a unique storyline having Darcy and Elizabeth meeting, but not at the same time.
