Joy Carnegie's parents know she's lost her mind. Her ex-boyfriend knows she'll fail. Joy wonders if they're right, but her search for a better life leads her to do it all anyway - to quit her job, sell her possessions, dye her hair, and move to the mountains of Vermont just in time for winter. With the help of long-lost family, new friendships, and a growing faith, she finds much more than she ever expected.
I really enjoyed this book. It has such an encouraging story line. The dialogue feels really real and I felt like I was there. There were lots of twists to the book which kept it interesting. I would highly recommend it.
A sweet story about a girl who decides to completely change her life. The characters are easy to relate to and sympathize with. It was interesting to read about a different part of the world than I'm familiar with, including how different the church is up there compared to down in the south. The author wrapped up the story perfectly, in my opinion.
I knocked one star off because I don't like the omniscient POV she writes in, and a few other little grammatical things I noticed throughout. Mostly just personal preference.
Finding Joy is the story of Joy...finding herself. Does she want to continue in the rich lifestyle that she had enjoyed for years with her parents and then in her own highly successful career as a real estate agent? Or will she find herself in the pursuit of something else? Is it her writing career? Perhaps the kind of quiet life her aunt has found in snowy Vermont?
Read Sarah's debut novel - a masterly crafted story of a woman discovering herself...and the God who created her.
