Set during the winter of 1939 and 1940, Corporal Tero Toivanen serves his homeland of Finland against the invading Soviet Red Army who seek a buffer zone in Northern Europe against the aggression of Nazi Germany. Tero is a sniper, and although he’s a veteran of his country’s military, like all able young men, he has never seen real war. And this changes quickly as he’s plunged directly into the fighting, where he sees plenty of death and destruction. As he moves through the bloody battles, he goes from skilled marksman to a cold-blooded killer. Part 1 of 4. "War is not glorious, it is not honorable; it is bloddy and violent and terrifying...a tremendous job portraying that." - Cosmic Book News

I do not object to comics or graphic novels. I just prefer the humorous ones such as Mallard Filmore, Pogo, Calvin and Hobbes, That's Jake, etc. However this is a very good example of the genre. Dark, brooding art work accurately depicting equipment and terrain. Terse dialogue. Believable introspection. Based loosely on the experiences of Simo Hayha, the most successful sniper of the 20th century, with more than 500 kills in less than 100 days, not counting those killed with a submachine gun. According to some sources, he had over 700 kills. A thing he rarely talked about in any detail.
