This was a bit of a mixed read for me, but one I'm still glad I picked up.

The first half had me completely hooked. I really enjoyed the missing person investigation and found myself trying to piece everything together alongside Jonas. I loved all the theories, the suspicion surrounding different characters, and the slow uncovering of the mystery. It genuinely kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next.

The author's writing style was easy to read, and there were some really engaging moments that showed a lot of promise.

Unfortunately, the second half wasn't quite as strong for me. Going into the book, I was really excited for the vampire aspect. From the blurb, I was expecting that side of the story to play a much bigger role throughout, so I found myself a little disappointed that it didn't really come into play until much later. By that point, I personally felt the story had lost some of the momentum and intrigue that the opening chapters had built so well.

That said, I think this is very much a case of expectations versus the story that was being told. If you're someone who enjoys detective mysteries with supernatural elements gradually woven in, I think you'll likely get much more from this than I did.

Although this one wasn't quite the vampire horror I was hoping for, I still enjoyed the mystery in the first half and appreciated the author's imaginative ideas. I'll certainly keep an eye out for what they write next, as I'd happily give another of their books a try.

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy.

‎"So if you are too tired to speak, come sit by me as I too am fluent in silence."

‎This book is a brave attempt at reducing the stigma around schizophrenia — emphasizing that a disease doesn't define a person as less, but as a fighter.

‎The novel carries the story of Jonas Hale, the grandson of private investigator Arthur Hale. Through Arthur's entanglement with the underworld, which led to his disappearance, Jonas is forced to leave his home in France in hope of finding the only family he has left. Through a series of events, he finally meets someone who sees him as he is  rather than a threat, or an impulsive, unpredictable one: Elena.

‎The plot could have been more developed, the events were mostly predictable, only scratching the surface of what could have been a deeper story. The vulnerability and duality of Jonas's character remain an admirable trait in any protagonist, and it proves to be the case here. Daria and Jonas's relationship was one of my favorite parts, especially the moment of maternal approval that led to the name reveal.

‎However, I found the plot rather lacking, as we don't get enough lore on the other characters. For example:

‎Why is Clara the way she is?

‎Why did they choose isolation for 50 years?

‎Why was Elena so ready to be on the run, dragging her mother along, after she worked so hard to sustain stability? (Assuming her relationship with Marguerite wasn't solely out of camaraderie.)

‎And the most daunting question — why did it end that way? I won't develop my point there to avoid spoilers, but it was deeply unsatisfying for me.

‎I am one hundred percent sure that with more development and context, it could have made more sense. Due to the lack of sufficient lore, we don't get to see much character development or exponential change.

‎It still remains a moderately good paranormal story with vampires. The horror factor is about 3/5 for me, the most gore is in the description of the battlefield rather than a terrifying mystery or plot twist. If you're looking to venture into horror, this would be a great starting point: it raises awareness about schizophrenia while providing a moderately good plot and character relationships.

‎Thank you to the author and BookSirens for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review

‎Happy reading ◉‿◉

Jonas Hale gets a call from DC Carter, informing him that his grandfather Arthur Hale has disappeared. He then leaves the French sanatorium, where he had been living for several years, heading back home. Once there, he begins his own investigation into why Arthur suddenly vanished. What at first looks like a simple missing person case quickly turns into a dangerous venture into the supernatural.

The prologue captured my attention immediately; it held me in suspense with a fear that was raw and bloody. I just wanted more and could hardly put the novel down for the first half. There I hit a bit of a wall, where I lost some interest in what was going on. A couple of action scenes within the last half of the book felt like they were leading up to being the climax, only for it to back away. The second half felt like it was missing some of the core story development that made me care for Jonas and Elena that had been present in the first half. I did appreciate the intriguing mystery that was interwoven throughout the novel, but again it seemed to lose its momentum in the later parts.

Lore wise, I wish more history concerning the vampires had been brought in and fleshed out, as there were several questions remaining, particularly when it came to Mercer, Clara, and Augustus. In addition, I would have like more information on both Jonas and Dezzie’s abilities. Especially for Dezzie, as he was both my favorite character and had a unique ability that could have used a little more development.

Overall, the writing was very smooth and there was a good creepy atmosphere that set the tone well. Blood Runs Thin by Remy Porter was a solid start to a new supernatural thriller series, and I would be interesting in reading the next in the series to see where Jonas will go. This novel contains a good mixture of mystery, horror, and supernatural elements that created an intriguing read; I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys these genres.

Having already read Dead Run, I had a pretty good sense of what I was getting into with this author going in. Blood Runs Thin has an interesting premise, a young man returning home to help search for his missing grandfather, only to find himself pulled into something far darker and more paranormal. That concept was enough to carry me through the slow opening.

My biggest issue was the structure. The dialogue itself reads smoothly enough but the prose around it felt a little stilted at times, falling into a repetitive pattern that made some sections feel more like a sequence of events than a fleshed out story. It made it harder for me to stay fully immersed. I also went in expecting the supernatural elements to be more front and center than they were. They're present but felt slightly underdeveloped, and I found myself wanting more lore and more history around them than the book gave us.

Still, there’s enough here to make it worth a read. The mystery kept me engaged and the atmosphere had its moments. I'm on the fence about whether I'll continue the series, but I wouldn't discourage others from picking it up.

After falling in love with Remy Porter’s zombie novels, I was excited to see what he’d do with a completely different genre and Blood Runs Thin did not disappoint.

This feels like an old school crime novel with a dark supernatural heartbeat. You get detectives, organized crime, corruption, missing persons, crime bosses, action, and just the right amount of vampires and the supernatural woven throughout the story.

One thing I’ve come to expect from Remy is beautifully descriptive ( graphic ) writing, and once again he delivers. His settings are vivid, the tension builds naturally, and the atmosphere is wonderfully gritty .

What impressed me most was seeing his range as an author. It would have been easy to stay in the zombie genre where I first discovered him, but instead he proves he can write compelling stories across genres while keeping the same immersive, cinematic style that made me a fan in the first place.

If you’re looking for a dark detective story with supernatural twists, memorable characters, crime families, vampires, and plenty of suspense, I highly recommend giving Blood Runs Thin a read. Remy Porter continues to prove that great storytelling isn’t limited by genre.

ARC Review: I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author/continuing this series. From the first page it was written very well and in a way that made me visualize the characters and places as I was reading. The characters and plot were equally interesting as well as the development of character relationships and development. Blood Runs Thin was the perfect amount of suspense and the ending was not one I saw coming (which I wasn’t expecting thus appreciated as a reader).

The only thing I did not quite believe, and this is my own opinion, was the dialogue. These were suppose to be British speaking characters but the dialogue did not read as such. At times there were currents of typical bluntness and dry banter (my family is from London so I like reading British text) but it lacked what I would have expected. This was certainly not a game changer for me or for the storyline though.

Great piece of writing that I recommend for readers who enjoy following characters along on a suspenseful journey.

Jonas Hale is a man haunted by the legacy of his grandfather, Arthur Hale, a private investigator whose perilous entanglements with the criminal underworld ultimately led to his sudden and unexplained disappearance. Forced to abandon the stability of his life in France, Jonas is driven by a singular, desperate hope: to locate the only remaining family member he has left in the world. As he navigates a treacherous series of events born from his grandfather's dark past, Jonas is constantly misjudged by those around him, viewed as an impulsive, unpredictable, and dangerous threat. Everything changes when he crosses paths with Elena, the first person capable of looking past his volatile exterior to see him for who he truly is.

I truly enjoyed the overall feel of the book and am quite intrigued by Jonas Hale. While I do love a good puzzle I was left wanting to know more about the characters collective background. I am truly excited to see where this series is headed.

Thank you to Remy Porter and Book Sirens for the opportunity to read and review the ARC kindle version of Blood Runs Thin. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Blood Runs Thin starts off with a bang that left me hooked. The first half of the book was really strong and filled with mystery, horror, and anticipation: a young man returning to home after years to aid in the search for his missing grandfather, when paranormal and fantastical elements start to takeover.

However, the second half fell a bit flat for me. The mystery and horror aspect remained solid throughout, and the gore was top notch, but the plot twist and revelation was a bit disappointing. I felt it lacked a “wow” factor and was presented more nonchalantly. I love the plot, but feel it could have been executed better, perhaps with more suspense and surprise.

The author kindly sent me this book and this is the third book I have read of his!

Remy’s style of writing is phenomenal. His similies are top notch and the fact he pulls from personal experience in his books really shows through his writing.

Being an ex police officer he can really put depth into the characters that are of law enforcement and the person crossing the law.

There is always so much detail in his books and it really immerses you in the story.

The main theme of this book is vampires and uncovering dark secrets within a vampire coven.

While searching for his missing grandfather, he also uncovers powers within himself.

Good versus evil, British horror at its finest, with vampires and demons…. If this is your vibe and you live plot twists that shock you, you should definitely pick this up!

Jonas Hale has not been back to his hometown of Blackpool in seven years but finds he must return when he receives a call alerting him to the disappearance of his only remaining relative, his grandfather. On his return, he discovers a town falling into decline and something very ancient and dark lurking; could this be the cause of his grandfather's disappearance?
This book is everything you could want from a quick horror read: plenty of gore, a plagued main character struggling with his own secrets, reconceptualised vampires, and other credible characters. There's plenty of mystery, tension, and atmosphere, and some twists along the way. A most enjoyable read; I look forward to the next installment.

Some stories scream… this one whispers until you can’t ignore it anymore.

Blood Runs Thin is an eerie, slow burning horror novel that thrives on atmosphere. Every chapter layers on another piece of mystery, making the tension feel almost unbearable in the best way. I loved how the sense of dread steadily built without relying on constant jump scares.
The pacing allows the characters to breathe, making their choices and the consequences even more impactful. By the final pages I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know how everything would unfold.
If you’re a fan of:
* Slow burn horror
* Creeping psychological tension
* Dark mysteries
* Stories with emotional depth
* Gothic vibes

…then add this one to your TBR.

I received this book free from Book Sirens and leave this review voluntarily.

The scenes from this book will live rent free in my head for years. This story is linear in its telling, but that does nothing to diminish the effectiveness. The author leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions and that is what makes it so intriguing. There is an air of mystery that lingers even after the original mystery is solved. I really wonder if there will be a sequel. . . 😁.
This was my first book by this author and will definitely be looking up more of his work! If you want a quick read that starts off with strong action and never lets up and leaves you wanting more, this is the one.

First I want to give a THANK YOU to the author for asking me to do an ARC read for his brand new series, starting with this book.
Starting with a mystery and ending in a paranormal battle. This was exciting, brand new and you can feel the fresh ideas that the author had when writing this.
I’m not sure if I should give anything away.. so that’s why this review isnt telling much.
The MMC is Jonah. He is searching for his grandfather, but what he finds is much more sinister.. Will he and his friends be able to survive and find answers to their mystery.

I’ve got questions of my own.
Are Desi and Jonah, just friends. Does Jonah care about Elena too.. I want to know!

This was interesting. Gritty, an ode to old noir detective tales while keeping its feet firmly in the modern day. Blackpool is a character in its own right, and the supernatural elements were handled very realistically.

My only gripe is that it was quite a hard read for me. Everything gets described in minute detail, and when it comes, the conversations seem stilted and unreal. This added to the vibe of the book after a while, but it wasn't easy in its lack of flow.

An intriguing book overall, which is what you want from a mystery!

I received an early copy of this book from the author but the above opinions are entirely my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5)
Blood Runs Thin by Remy Porter was vastly different from his previous books. While it still has the monster element I've come to expect, the overall vibe felt completely different.
Admittedly, it started off quite slowly, but once the pace picked up, I was in for a wild ride! I really enjoyed the blend of crime and horror, they complemented each other perfectly. As always, Remy has a fantastic way of setting the scene with his vivid descriptions, making it easy to picture every moment.
Overall, a really enjoyable read with an enigmatic ending that left me thinking long after I'd finished.

Y’all, Blood Runs Thin sinks its teeth in slowly, then refuses to let go.

Haunted Jonas Hale returns to Blackpool when his grandfather disappears, only to uncover unexplained deaths, vanished witnesses, impossible photographs, and something ancient lurking beneath the town’s bright lights.

Jonas is damaged, secretive, and carrying his own suitcase of darkness. Remy Porter’s sharp, atmospheric writing builds dread like footsteps creeping up behind you, while the modern spin on vampires gives this mystery some serious bite. Dark, bloody, and deliciously unsettling!

Blood runs thin was a good read that was filled with mystery horror and gore.
The first half was very fast paced and I was hooked however the second half was a little slower but it still had me intrigued and wanting to find out what was going to happen.

Starts off as a slow-burner (pun not intended??), but picks up steam as it moves along. 😉 I especially enjoyed the last 40%, once I learned everything that was going on and I could just enjoy the duration of the ride. Ends with a cliffhanger which isn't usually my thing, but I still found it interesting and curious if this part of the story will be continued. Not overloaded with gore, but enough frightening scenes sprinkled throughout to make it worth the read for diehard horror fans.

I never imagined the path this story would take, and I sat for awhile thinking about the review. Jonas and Elena go searching for a missing great grandfather Arthur. Along the way on this adventure they lose some supporters

and come perilously close to death themselves. I'm not a fan of mean vampires like these, but it was a very gripping and suspenseful read that has more to come.

If you like paranormal thrillers that come with a bit of bite, some hot moments and a touch of "will they won't they" then this is for you.
The plot starts off at a slow pace and slowly builds with intrigue around the MC. On the surface level it isn't just a simple missing persons case, there is something darker and more ancient at play.
Great selection of different characters and a good premise for the start of a series.

Completely hooked me from the beginning, I love a good mystery/horror read so that was pretty awesome. It’s super fast paced on the first half but later on the book just felt a little dull in comparison of how it started. I was just expecting more for the plot twist 🤷‍♀️ with that said I am still looking forward to reading more from this author. I really love this one. We follow Jonas Hale when he returns home to help find his missing grandfather… but add in some vampires. I thought this was smartly written and liked the character developments. No character has plot armor so expect anything. The climax was great, I really could visualize the battle, heat, and tension. This book surprised me! I am reading and the story is good and then WHAM! It took a turn that I did not see coming. And then WHAM it took another turn! Jonas and Elena's characters are well developed and I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could so I could see what happened next. I am not going to say any more because I don't want to ruin it for anyone or give anything away. All I will say is you need to reed this book!
