Knox is a regulator, like that small mechanism inside a watch that makes it stay right. He rides from town to town as part of an organization that makes things right. This assignment takes him to Buffalo Crossing to try to prevent a range war. Like most towns, he rides in, makes things right and leaves. This time he meets Sarah and her son Roberto and develops an instant bond with them. Barron, rode into town a couple years ago buying and leasing land that allowed him to fence off the free range and most of the water that the other ranches used. There would be lots of deaths and bloodshed before this problem was fixed. Barron had some cowhands, but mostly gunfighters. The town marshal follows the letter of the law, but hasn't figured out the spirit of the law. The Regulator has his work cut out for him. This is, without a doubt, the best book I have read all year!

Imagine the Equalizer meets a John Wayne western.

I thought the story was cute. "Cute" was probably not the word the author was going for. I think the author intended this book to come off as a gritty, dangerous, exciting, western drama with a side of romance. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, I just couldn't take it seriously because it reminded me too much of an old black and white western movie rerun on TV. I would have liked this book more if I didn't feel that the author was pushing religion.

Pretty boring and kinda silly. He shows up in town and tells people to call him The Regulator like he's some kind of superhero, and everybody just does it, without even having any proof that he's even worthy of the nickname. Imagine if someone just showed up to your job and said to call him The Batman, and everyone just did it like it was totally normal.
Also it's too much of a sappy love story. Maybe this book was written to appeal to female western fans, but there wasn't enough action to keep me interested or awake.

Love and hope for two unlikely people who have not had easy lives

This is a very good book, but I thought it was difficult to say Mr. regulator all the time. I am glad they found each other and love. I think I would've liked to known a little more about the man that attacked her --whether he was a Mexican stranger, worker, or who he was. Who knows maybe the regulator might find him and give him some pay back!

Great story!

The West needed a lot of Regulators, but this story was really good. I expected Sarah Davis to die, but the story was much better with her living and finding happiness. I hated to finish the book as I enjoyed reading a great story. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the Deputy!

I ended up liking this more than I expected to. The romance plotline was pretty sweet and I really enjoyed the climactic gunfight. It’s one of his best books, which is saying something after I didn’t like book 1 of The Greenhorn that much. Still, this author’s offerings are all stupidly entertaining so I’m going to catch up on the ones I’ve missed soon (and even reread some others)

The Regulator Book 1

This was an enjoyable read and written very well. I loved the theme and the up and down emotion it presented. There was plenty of great Western action and a satisfied ending that wrapped up the story, so the reader can feel with pleasure the joy in the final outcome! Looking forward to reading more from this author n the future!!

A great read

Starting a new series, I anticipate a story worth my time and money. I’ve read a few of John Deacon’s books and have enjoyed them all. This one, The Regulator, is worthy of being on the Big Screen!
Mr. Deacon has grown in his skills as an author and I’ve already purchased the next installment in the series! Can’t wait, but alas, I must!

The Regulator Book 1

Another great storyline by Joh Deacon. His books are always well written and move along nicely. The Regulator is certainly no exception to his other writings. I give this one Five Stars.

another good read

A few editing nitpicking issues…referring to looking into his eyes when one was covered by a patch. Decent character development and looking forward to the next one.

How's your patience?

When you read this novel it will try your patience as we resolve problems of the west and establishing ranches. What a family went through to live the rancher life was at times very trying.

Solid read, good storyline, good characters.

One thing that made this book stand out was a minimal.amount of psychoanalysis of.theory is characters which seems.to.be the rage these days in almost.every genre. Storyxid.drag periodically but was enjoyable.

A THRILLING, WELL PACED WESTERN ABOUT FRONTIER JUSTICE

This telling of a familiar theme, a lone man saving a town, was very well rounded in a way that kept one guessing. Good character development, I was surprised at the conclusion. I look forward to reading a book 2,.

A typical old Western style story, well told

There's good guys and bad guys, and cows and horses. Very few surprises, but easy and enjoyable reading. If you liked reading Deacon's other books, you'll be very content with this one, too.

This almost made it to my DNF pile. Having grown up reading Zane Grey and Louis Lamour westerns, I kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t. The dialogue is deplorable, characters lack depth. Was surprised to see so many high ratings.

Extremely entertaining!

John tells the stories to keep the reader wanting to keep going. From laughter to tears, the stories run the gamut of emotions. So very entertaining! I've read many of John Dragon's books and every one was excellent.

Excellent

I always enjoy John's westerns. This one was especially good. I love his historical accuracy. There is violence, but it's handled well. A bit of romance and a comfortable amount of faith. The story line was quite interesting. Waiting for the next one.

The Regulator will fix the problem

A really good Western, told in the old style. Not one unnecessary word. The story lopes along at a steady pace. There are a few plot twists to keep up your interest, but not enough to derail the main story. A good read.

Really good writing makes for a great read!

Mr. Deacon is again the champion of writers...he creates a world where some people you just absolutely despise, and some are irritating. But the best part of Mr. Deacon's books is that the good guys always win. As it should be!

The Regulator fixes things and Mr. Knox has a lot to fix in Buffalo Crossing a town ready to explode in a range war between a crooked cattle barron and smaller ranchers.
