SRB: Prošlo je dugo od moje poslednje recenzije. Prošlo je još duže od kada sam pisala rent, ali spremite s, jer što bi rekli stihovi BTS-a " I'm so firin' firin' " da napišem ovaj. Ako vma se dopala ova knjiga, molim vas da ne čitate jer vam se moje mišljenje neće dopasti. Kupila sam ovu knjigu kada mi je bilo jako teško i htela sam nešto što će mi odmoriti mozak a kako je bila jako jeftina nisam se mnogo premišljala, plus sinopsis je delovao dobro. Prvo sam mislila da će biti OK ali kako je knjiga napredovala svaka strana mi je bila gora od one prethodne.
Glavna junakinja zvuči kao kompletni kreten. Ozbiljno ne priča svaka nomalna devojka kao da je iznad svih ali ako ste mislili da naša junakinja ima previše samopouzdanja pa zato tako priča -grešite, ne ona je samo jedna obična devojka sa kosom u haosu koja živi od pisanja (naravno) i dane provodi u pidžami ali to je neće sprečiti da:
-kupuje skupu garderobu zbog lika koji je gleda preko skajpa
-kupuje skupu garderobu jer je u Parizu
-kupuje skupe mirišljave sveće i kozmetiku
-konstantno priča o tome koliko je to sve skupo (Najmonova "expensive girl" mi svira u glavi)
-Opisuje knjižaru kao prostor i enterijer dok knjigee ostaju u drugom planu
-Pije (skup) Šampanjac u sred dana sama jer zašto da ne, još jedan kliše je potreban.
Generlano žena je više od pola knjige posvetila opisima koliko je glavna junakinja dala para i koliko su skupe stvari dobre...
Kada se naša junakinja Rubi ponovo vidi sa svojom najboljom prijateljicom koju nije videla dugo (iz nekog razloga njih dve ne govore preko skajpa te rubi ne zna kako Harijet izgleda mada sa likom sa kojim se zna par meseci priča sa skajpa), i koja sada živi u Parizu ona je ne prepoznaje jer njena najbolja drugarica nekada "muškarača" i opuštena riba sada je prava dama. I mada Harijet ima dobar posao poludeće onog momenta kada se povredi i mora da hoda u ravnom umesto na štiklama jer niko neće hteti da je oženi!? Harijet takoće ne izlazi iz stana dok se ne isfenira i ne jede kroasane jer se plaši da će da se udeblja.
Sama prezentacija Francuske i Pariza je živi užas, da li neko stvarno veruje da Pariz čine -flert, moda i Luvr? Ozbiljno? Pariz je više od toga.
Deo priče koji bi trebao da bude interesantan -onaj u kome nas autorka vodi kroz ulice prošlosti će vas zabaviti u prvom trenutku, međutim rasplet je toliko kliše da je razočarenje jedina reč koju imam.
Glavni utisak-autorka je videla "Ponoć u Pariizu" Vudija Alena i pomislila da bi i ona mogla nešto tako da napiše, samo što je ono što je Alen ponudio sedmoj umetnosti milion puta bolje, čak i teen roman "Ana i francuski poljubac" je odradio bolji posao. Baš mi se nije dopao.

Bought this book when I was in bad place I wanted to relax to chill and stuff so I read the synopsis and I'm like OK I like France and that old stories so I'll take it plus it was super cheap so why not. So at first, I thought I could be OK not like the best but fine. As book progress, I hated every page even more than the one before.
The main character sounds like an idiot. Like for real not every girl talks like she is on higher place than the rest of the world very arrogant and if you think that our character is way too self-confident no boy she is not in fact she is just regular girl with messy hair who writes for living (cliché right?) and spends day in PJs but that won't's stop her from:
-buying expensive clothes because she will reunite with some dude
-buying expensive clothes because she is in Paris
-buying expensive candles and cosmetics
-talking how much money she spent on buying all those things (Namjoon's "Expensive girl" is playing in my head)
-Describing library on how good stairs look while books are in another plan.
-Drinking champagne in Paris in the middle of the day alone because why not, we have to have another cliché
Generally describing and acting how much money she spent is that's the majority of the book.
When our character Ruby reunites with her best friend now living in Paris she won't recognise her because her friend went from tomboy to a lady a relax, smart chick on well-paid job will go crazy over the fact that she can't walk in heels because she is hurt, she can't go out from apartment until she does her hair right...
Presentation of France and Paris was a disaster, do you generally believe that city of so many things is made from flirt, fashion, and Louvre? Like for real? Paris is more than cliché.
Now the light part of this story should be that old love story that happened long time ago. But even though you'll actually get to enjoy a bit in those letters...well it's still way too much cliché and you'll be disappointed at the end.
Final impression is -an author saw Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and decide to write something like that, but in the end Allen's 7th art masterpiece did better with bringing spirit of city with philosophy, in fact even "Anna and the french kiss" book for teens did better job and I strongly dislike this book, and that's a fact.

This was one of my favourite reads of the year. Within the first few lines of the book I was already relating to the character. Within the first page I was grinning. By the second I was laughing out loud! As the book continued, the genre shifted from comedic to emotional to mysterious and back again. By the end of the book I was so enveloped in the story that I couldn’t put the book down and ended up almost in tears at the conclusion of the story. The general genre of this book would fall under “chick lit” I guess, but it is much more than that, with varying dimensions to the story.
The story follows that of Ruby, told in first person narrative, as she visits her friend in Paris after her boyfriend stands her up at the airport. Her friend Harriet is working as a valuer working towards being an auctioneer and takes Ruby with her on a valuation of a house that has been shut up for 75 years. And there the mystery begins for Harriet.
I love how this story spans across modern and historic romance and brings them together so beautifully. In the letters written 75 years previously, the tone and beauty in the writing is something that has perhaps been lost in this day and age and it was gorgeous to read alongside the context of a modern day love story.
This was a fantastic light read but also one that was incredibly difficult to put down once I started. Filled with everything from humour to mystery to romance, it covered a wealth of genres with intensity. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Sta reci o ovoj knjizi? Izazvala je toliko emocija kod mene. Ljubavna prica izmedju Emanuele i Henrija je prosto carobna. Obozavam knjige sa ljubavnim pricama iz proslosti pa me je tako i ova osvojila. Predivna prica o dvoje ljudi koje je rat i drustvo razdvojilo. Ono sto me je nerviralo u ovoj knjizi i zbog cega sam se premisljala kako da je ocjenim jeste Ruby. Ona je lik koji ima mnogo zajednickih stvari sa mnom i mnoga njena razmisljanja su i moja ali neki njeni postupci su me tako izludeli da sam konstantno prevrtala ocima. Ali prosto sam morala dati 5 zbog Henrija, Emanuele i pisama.

Romance is not my favorite genre but I did enjoy some dialogues and I liked the ending. A bit predictable, but funny and romantic.

Old Paris comes alive. Harriet, Ruby’s friend works for a major auction house and it’s her job to try and trace this lady’s ancestors and find out who the apartment and estate now belong to. The mystery into the letters and the apartment deepens, so too does a little history and culture of the city. This apartment is like a time warp as the owner is thought to have fled after the war and never returned.

Remember the very first time you go into this apartment and discover it for yourself. The door creaks, the room smells of the past, the decoration is a faded reminder of a bygone era and even the table is still set.

This is the second Alexandra Potter book I've read & continues Ruby (& Jack's) story. Loved, loved, loved it! Again found Ruby to be such a great lead character. I really like it when I can relate to the main character, which is the case with Ruby - I also read the last few sentences of every book before starting. ;) I've been to Paris once before & can't wait to go again so that I can relive this wonderful book in the city of love & lights!

Lep nastavak i zavrsetak ljubavne price o Dzeku i Rubi, a tu je i jos jedna predivna, bezvremena ljubavna prica od pre sedamdeset godina izmedju Henrija i Emanueele.

MEIN LESEERLEBNIS
Nachdem ich vom 1. Teil vollkommen überrascht und begeistert war, hatte ich große Lust, weiter über die Protagonistin Ruby Miller zu lesen. Jedoch schraubte ich schon vor Beginn meine Erwartungen herunter, da ich den 1. Teil auf Englisch gelesen hatte, diesen nun auf Deutsch. Und da deutsche Übersetzungen gerade bei Liebesgeschichten ja leider sehr leicht und gerne mal schnell ins Kitschige, Befremdliche abdriften, war mir schon vorher etwas bange.
Leider trafen dann auch tatsächlich all meine Vorurteile vorallem zu Beginn des Buches extrem stark zu. Ich tat mir unheimlich schwer, in die Geschichte reinzukommen, und Ruby Miller kam mir wie ein komplett verwandelter Charakter vor. (Das liegt aber nicht nur an der deutschen Übersetzung)
MEINE PROBLEME MIT DEM BUCH
Leider, leider hatte ich da so einige.
Die deutsche Übersetzung
Wie auch schon beim letzten Buch was ich von Goldmann gelesen habe, wurde hier mal wieder "Shit" zu "Dreck" übersetzt, was mich einfach unglaublich stört, da das doch niemand sagt. Man hätte es einfach bei "Shit" belassen können, oder zu "Mist" oder so umschreiben. Noch schlimmer war dann jedoch der Gebrauch von "Käse" für Quatsch, wie ich annahm. Dabei habe ich mich wirklich gefragt, welches englische Wort sie da mit "Käse" übersetzt haben. Vielleicht wird in Teilen von Deutschland tatsächlich "Käse" wie "Quatsch" benutzt, aber dann wohl eher in einem Ausruf wie "Das ist doch Käse!", was mir jedoch auch fremd vorkommt.
Tatsächlich handelt es sich bei der Übersetzerin wieder um die gleiche, die auch schon in "Tinderella" andauernd "Dreck!" als Ausruf gebracht hat. -.- Ich empfand das wirklich als befremdlich.
Ebenso komisch empfand ich die, vorallem zu Beginn des Romans extrem permanente, Anrede des Lesers mit "Sie". Vorallem da ich vorher erste den 1. Teil auf Englisch gelesen hatte, war ich etwas perplex, da ich mich nicht erinnern konnte, dass mich in dem Buch die Protagonistin irgendwie extra angeredet hat. Die Anrede fühlt sich einfach fehl am Platz an.
Dann kam ebenso wie auch in "Tinderella" ein verwirrender Namensfehler vor. Erst hieß der Mann so, plötzlich anders. Aufgeklärt, was nun richtig sei, wurde nicht.
Ruby Miller, als hoffnungsvolle Romantikerin
Bitte Bitte lest den ersten Teil bevor ihr diesen hier lest! Im 1. Teil hat mir Ruby Miller wahnsinnig gut gefallen. Sie war sympathisch, aufgeweckt, ich konnte mich sehr mit ihr identifizieren, und sie war unabhängig. Und sie hat nicht mehr wirklich an Liebe und Romantik geglaubt. Da ich mich gerade in einem ähnlichen "Zustand" befinde, fand ich ihren Charakter wahnsinnig erfrischend und toll.
Nur leider hat sie ihren ganzen Charakter aus dem 1. Teil schon ab der ersten Seite dieses Buches über Bord geworfen. Das fand ich wirklich unglaublich schade.
Sie hat mich gleich auf den ersten Seiten so genervt mit ihrer Lipglosssuche, und welche Bedeutung sie dem zugeordnet hat. Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich stehe selbst total auf Make Up und finde es schlimm, wenn in Büchern über andere wegen fehlenden oder "zu viel" Make Up hergezogen wird, aber ich finde auch, dass es in Büchern interessanteres zu berichten geben sollte, als die Suche nach einem Lipgloss.
Vorallem fand ich es auch so schade, dass ihre Beziehung zu Jack, die ich im 1. Teil nach allem was die beiden einzigartiges in Indien zusammen durchgestanden haben, als so besonders wahrgenommen habe, dennoch so ist, dass sie sich so viele Gedanken macht, wie sie jetzt bei einem Videochat mit ihm aussieht und ob sie genügend Lipgloss draufhat. Das erschien mir so banal und unsinnig, wenn man bedenkt, wie lange sie in Indien ohne neue Klamotten und Dusche ausgekommen sind. Da würde man doch denken, dass ihre Beziehung zueinander viel tiefer ist, und sie einander schon auf so viele Arten nackt gesehen haben, dass sie nun wirklich nicht auf die Idee kommen würde, ihn mit Lipgloss zu beeindrucken.
Aber okay. :D Ich rege mich jetzt schon viel zu lange über dieses verdammte Lipgloss auf, entschuldigt.
Und gerade weil mich Rubys komplett aufgelöste Unabhängigkeit am Anfang so genervt hat, war ich froh, den Klappentext gelesen zu haben, und zu wissen, dass die Geschichte bald einen anderen Verlauf nehmen wird.
Auch "schreckt" mich Rubys Ahnungslosigkeit sowie Ablehnung und eigentliches Desinteresse sozialen Medien gegenüber total ab. Da ich mich selbst sehr dafür interessiere, wirkt sie dadurch auf mich etwas veraltet und auch irgendwie unsympathisch. Mich hat es wirklich gewundert, wie unvertraut sie mit all dem war.
Ich konnte Rubys Aufopferung und extrem romantische Ader auch wirklich nicht nachvollziehen. Sie kam mir total verblödet von unrealistischen romantischen Fantasien vor, obwohl in ihrem eigenen Liebesleben gar nichts so toll lief. Deshalb und eben weil sie im 1. Teil noch so ganz anders war, kam sie mir wirklich oft wie ein anderer Charakter vor.
Rubys Interesse und gerade zu Besessenheit von der alten Liebesgeschichte und ihren Geheimnissen war schön, aber irgendwann viel zu übertrieben. Es zeigte einfach nur, dass in ihrer Gegenwart nicht wirklich irgendwas interessantes passierte, weshalb sie sich kopfüber in die Vergangenheit stürzen musste. Und dennoch passierte nicht erheblich viel mehr.

Vorallem im Mittelteil las ich die Seiten relativ zügig weg, da mir das Buch da am besten gefallen hat. Dort gab es einige lustige Stellen, und generell empfand ich das Lesen da als sehr schön und gemütlich. "Schmökern" kam mir da als sehr treffender Ausdruck in den Sinn.

Paris, wo der Großteil des Buches spielt, nimmt eine wichtige Rolle in der Geschichte ein, was mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Ich hätte es zwar schön gefunden, wenn sich noch mehr auf Paris statt auf die alte Liebesgeschichte konzentriert worden wäre, jedoch hielten das Cover und der Titel trotzdem was sie versprachen. Natürlich habe ich mich generell über jeden Fitzel Französisch im Buch gefreut, da ich es ja studiere.
Auch wenn ich oben meinen Frust über Ruby's Charakter"entwicklung" geäußert habe, war sie mir dennoch die meiste Zeit sympathisch. Ihre Art ist wirklich herzallerliebst, auch wenn sie mir, wie oben ausgeführt, im 1. Teil viel besser gefallen hat.
Es gab hier, wie auch schon im 1. Teil, wieder einen etwas mystischen Anteil, was mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Es war mir fast zu wenig, da sich das Lesen währendessen so anders angefühlt hat, und ich das sehr interessant fand.
Die alte Liebesgeschichte, welche in das Buch hineingestrikt ist, nimmt dem Buch das Sommerliche und macht es eher zu einem Buch, was man eingekuschelt während kälterer Tage liest.
Die Geschichte hat mich an den Film "Briefe an Julia" erinnert, nicht nur wegen des offensichtlichen Vergleichs, sondern auch von der ganzen Stimmung und auch etwas von der Langsamkeit und dem Stillleben.
FAZIT
Lest lieber den 1. Teil! Am besten auf Englisch. Auf Deutsch heißt er "Ermittlerin in Sachen Liebe", jedoch finde ich das englische Cover tausendmal schöner als das deutsche, auch weil es viel besser zum zweiten Teil passt. (welcher das gleiche Cover im Deutschen und Englischen hat)
Es ist wenn dann etwas für zwischendurch, aber auch da hätte ich lieber etwas anderes gelesen.

Durch die alte Liebesgeschichte, die zu lüftenden Geheimnisse und die Romantik von Paris, eignet sich das Buch auf jedenfall auch sehr gut für kalte Tage, an denen man sich damit und mit einer heißen Tasse Tee einkuscheln kann.
Ich bin momentan einfach nicht so auf dem romantischen Trip und bin was das "für immer zusammen bleiben" eher düster und pessimistisch eingestellt, weshalb ich das Buch nicht genießen konnte.

Nachdem ich vom 1. Teil vollkommen überrascht und begeistert war, hatte ich große Lust, weiter über die Protagonistin Ruby Miller zu lesen. Jedoch schraubte ich schon vor Beginn meine Erwartungen herunter, da ich den 1. Teil auf Englisch gelesen hatte, diesen nun auf Deutsch. Und da deutsche Übersetzungen gerade bei Liebesgeschichten ja leider sehr leicht und gerne mal schnell ins Kitschige, Befremdliche abdriften, war mir schon vorher etwas bange.
Leider trafen dann auch tatsächlich all meine Vorurteile vorallem zu Beginn des Buches extrem stark zu. Ich tat mir unheimlich schwer, in die Geschichte reinzukommen, und Ruby Miller kam mir wie ein komplett verwandelter Charakter vor. (Das liegt aber nicht nur an der deutschen Übersetzung)
MEINE PROBLEME MIT DEM BUCH
Leider, leider hatte ich da so einige.
Die deutsche Übersetzung
Wie auch schon beim letzten Buch was ich von Goldmann gelesen habe, wurde hier mal wieder "Shit" zu "Dreck" übersetzt, was mich einfach unglaublich stört, da das doch niemand sagt. Man hätte es einfach bei "Shit" belassen können, oder zu "Mist" oder so umschreiben. Noch schlimmer war dann jedoch der Gebrauch von "Käse" für Quatsch, wie ich annahm. Dabei habe ich mich wirklich gefragt, welches englische Wort sie da mit "Käse" übersetzt haben. Vielleicht wird in Teilen von Deutschland tatsächlich "Käse" wie "Quatsch" benutzt, aber dann wohl eher in einem Ausruf wie "Das ist doch Käse!", was mir jedoch auch fremd vorkommt.
Tatsächlich handelt es sich bei der Übersetzerin wieder um die gleiche, die auch schon in "Tinderella" andauernd "Dreck!" als Ausruf gebracht hat. -.- Ich empfand das wirklich als befremdlich.
Ebenso komisch empfand ich die, vorallem zu Beginn des Romans extrem permanente, Anrede des Lesers mit "Sie". Vorallem da ich vorher erste den 1. Teil auf Englisch gelesen hatte, war ich etwas perplex, da ich mich nicht erinnern konnte, dass mich in dem Buch die Protagonistin irgendwie extra angeredet hat. Die Anrede fühlt sich einfach fehl am Platz an.
Dann kam ebenso wie auch in "Tinderella" ein verwirrender Namensfehler vor. Erst hieß der Mann so, plötzlich anders. Aufgeklärt, was nun richtig sei, wurde nicht.
Ruby Miller, als hoffnungsvolle Romantikerin
Bitte Bitte lest den ersten Teil bevor ihr diesen hier lest! Im 1. Teil hat mir Ruby Miller wahnsinnig gut gefallen. Sie war sympathisch, aufgeweckt, ich konnte mich sehr mit ihr identifizieren, und sie war unabhängig. Und sie hat nicht mehr wirklich an Liebe und Romantik geglaubt. Da ich mich gerade in einem ähnlichen "Zustand" befinde, fand ich ihren Charakter wahnsinnig erfrischend und toll.
Nur leider hat sie ihren ganzen Charakter aus dem 1. Teil schon ab der ersten Seite dieses Buches über Bord geworfen. Das fand ich wirklich unglaublich schade.
Sie hat mich gleich auf den ersten Seiten so genervt mit ihrer Lipglosssuche, und welche Bedeutung sie dem zugeordnet hat. Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich stehe selbst total auf Make Up und finde es schlimm, wenn in Büchern über andere wegen fehlenden oder "zu viel" Make Up hergezogen wird, aber ich finde auch, dass es in Büchern interessanteres zu berichten geben sollte, als die Suche nach einem Lipgloss.
Vorallem fand ich es auch so schade, dass ihre Beziehung zu Jack, die ich im 1. Teil nach allem was die beiden einzigartiges in Indien zusammen durchgestanden haben, als so besonders wahrgenommen habe, dennoch so ist, dass sie sich so viele Gedanken macht, wie sie jetzt bei einem Videochat mit ihm aussieht und ob sie genügend Lipgloss draufhat. Das erschien mir so banal und unsinnig, wenn man bedenkt, wie lange sie in Indien ohne neue Klamotten und Dusche ausgekommen sind. Da würde man doch denken, dass ihre Beziehung zueinander viel tiefer ist, und sie einander schon auf so viele Arten nackt gesehen haben, dass sie nun wirklich nicht auf die Idee kommen würde, ihn mit Lipgloss zu beeindrucken.
Aber okay. :D Ich rege mich jetzt schon viel zu lange über dieses verdammte Lipgloss auf, entschuldigt.
Und gerade weil mich Rubys komplett aufgelöste Unabhängigkeit am Anfang so genervt hat, war ich froh, den Klappentext gelesen zu haben, und zu wissen, dass die Geschichte bald einen anderen Verlauf nehmen wird.

Silly me didn’t realize that this wasn’t a stand alone as I first thought, but the second book in a series! But this really wasn’t too bad, because everything important was explained again or was completely new. I also bought this booc without nowing what it is about. I just read the title and looked at the cover and I knew I needed it and I didn’t regret it. This is my first of Alexandra Potter’s books but I loved it and I want to read all the others.
To be honest, I liked everything about this book. As it says on the cover, the City of Love captured my heart. This book totally captured how Paris feels, the people, the fashion, the streets, the food. I was reminded of my many visits to this beautiful city and Love from Paris makes me want to go back as soon as possible. The writing style is so good and light and just fits perfectly into the atmosphere of the whole book. The characters were amazing, each showing different facettes. All of the characters were so lovingly described, having little quirks and just being generally normal people, nothing really outstanding but special in their own way. I just enjoyed the people in this book a lot, as I did basically everything in this book (Heathcliff the sausage dog especially). I couldn’t get enough of this book, and I want more of its charm, warmth and happiness.
Such a cute and quick read, perfect for summer and before a vacation in Paris.

I read it during my summer vacation last year. Even though I didn't expect much from it, other than being an easy relaxing read to take to the beach, the book was rather disappointing (not going to comment on the unrealistic plot, which could have barely been different considering the whole apartment ghost thing). First of all, the author has clearly never been to Paris. Otherwise, it would have been clear to her that Parisian women do not casually wear little black dresses accompanied by stilettos and red lipstick just to go meet someone at the train station. The same way, big-shot French lawyers from fancy La Défense offices do not go for trashy leggings-wearing girls like Ruby. I'm sorry, it just doesn't happen. Last but not least, the behavior of Ruby's boyfriend was clearly NOT okay. The naive final explanation that this is what true love is like was ridiculous and exactly the reason why so many women keep struggling in toxic relationships. This last bit is why I decided to bother writing this review to begin with.
Ladies, please, there are a lot of good chick-lits with decent men as characters. Do not waste your time on reading up about another asshole of a boyfriend and how he's not that bad.
I do not recommend this book, even if you love Paris (like I do). This book does not have that Parisian vibe, which you are looking for.

I didn't realise this was a sequel until about halfway through when I searched it on Goodreads and I didn't at any point feel like there was information I was missing out on that was important to the story so this can certainly be fully enjoyed without having read the prequel.
This was a charming story without some of the annoying aspects of other books of this genre and really brought back many happy memories of my visits to Paris. The descriptive writing was excellent and really brought the locations alive in my mind. Quick warning though, you will undoubtedly find yourself craving wine, coffee and French cuisine whilst reading this book so be prepared!
Rather a bizarre way of doing things but I definitely want to read the prequel to this now.

At the end, I'm kind of disappointed. The whole story was quite good and I really enjoyed it, but there were some points that making me nuts. For example, the whole book Ruby is suffering because of the Jack and I think he just isn't for her. I found him a liar and he's talking nonsense. At the other hand, I understood the fact she reacts but Xavier was better. He carried Ruby and he was her right hand. I hoped that she would realise that until the and, but of course she didn't.
But, I'll give 4 stars. I really loved the other things and I feel speechless for those letters.

An Alexandra Potter book is definitely a highlight of my year and an absolute treat to feed my hopelessly romantic soul. I read quite a number of them and I keep discovering how much of an amazing writer she is and how her stories are magical and wonderful.

I love Alexandra Potter’s books, and Love From Paris did not disappoint! Ruby Miller was an awesome character, and it’s so fun that she takes her dog Heathcliffe along with her on this adventure to Paris.
The story starts with Ruby wanting an escape from a bitter disappointment, but quickly turns into a mystery involving an abandoned apartment, a bundle of love letters, and a case for the Love Detective herself! Alexandra Potters’ description of that apartment in Paris was so real I felt like I was there, like I could smell the dust, and hear the echoes of the past. Her humour made me laugh out loud, and the romance as always, is sigh worthy. The story starts with Ruby wanting an escape from a bitter disappointment, but quickly turns into a mystery involving an abandoned apartment, a bundle of love letters, and a case for the Love Detective herself! Alexandra Potters’ description of that apartment in Paris was so real I felt like I was there, like I could smell the dust, and hear the echoes of the past. Her humour made me laugh out loud, and the romance as always, is sigh worthy. But just when you think you know what Ruby is going to do and how this story is going to end, Alexandra Potter has a surprise twist in store!

April 29, 2018To be fair I've been pretty much off chick-lit of late but have always enjoyed Alexandra Potter in the past. I was bit dubious throughout the first chapter, it just seemed to be trying too hard to be funny - & failing IMHO- & Ruby was just so damned annoying. The Love List finished me off, albeit temporarily. I put it down for a couple of hours & re-started it but found myself skimming so much of it I thought what is the point...

Måske ikke stor litteratur, men en sød historie, som ramte mig på følelserne og endda fik tårerne frem, og gav mig en hyggelig læseoplevelse. Kunne godt lide twistet med de sideløbende historier og det historiske islæt - dermed synes jeg, at denne var endnu bedre end 1'eren :) At den foregik i både London og Paris var bare et ekstra plus - begge byer, hvor jeg (om end kort) har været, og har en drøm om at vende tilbage til - engang .. <3

I choose this book from the poolside lending library while on a winter vacation. I'm wondering if this novel was the inspiration for Emily in Paris? There are many similarities, except the Netflix series includes sex scenes. The main theme is elder-millennial angst in finding a life partner amidst a series of calamitous events with a little historical mystery thrown in, all set in Paris. I got what I paid for.
