This story was a well written, slow burn romance we followed the female character who is navigating an excruciating loss of her previous husband, while trying to raise a little four-year-old and still be a strong successful businesswoman. And then we had the male character who was very intense very intentional he definitely saw her and saw all of the parts that as a woman, that’s what we really desire in a partner.
I think the author did a really great job and how we saw the intricate details of what it takes to go through something so heavy, raising the kid and navigating a new attraction and balancing that with the guilt and sorrow of a lost partner. I also think that the character development we saw was very realistic.
I do wish that we got fewer details for mundane, daily activities however that could just be what the writing style was and just something that I personally could’ve had less of. So if you enjoy:
-paranormal romance -black, paranormal - were wolves - fated mates - slow burn - enthusiastic and major inclusion of a kid’s personality within a novel - a strong blank woman lead being seen for all of the unspoken burdens she carries and a man being intentional of removing those burdens!!!!
Then this book is great for you!!!!
It’s just 3 stars for me because I would’ve preferred for the plot itself to move faster and perhaps more conflict/a major climax somewhere in the story.
I can honestly say I loved this book. Why? Because it made me feel feelings and never got boring (even though it wasn't plot twists or super high stakes). I got the ARC yesterday and stayed up all night to finish.
At the beginning of Moonlight, Moni is a widowed single mother struggling to navigate the grief of losing her husband to cancer a year ago. She wants to move on but doesn't know how. You'd think it'd be a super sad story but for me it wasn't. I felt her grief (got a little watery on some parts) but Jade doesn't make us sit in it long at all. But she doesn't just rush over it either.
Moonlight is Moni's story so the majority of the chapters are in her POV. The balance between the main characters was still well done though. We were able to see Moni heal while she formed her relationship with Kaz. Even though he didn't get a ton of chapters, Kaz still felt very real and relevant to the story.
The romance was IT. A strong subplot. Moni didn't just all of a sudden forget her husband died when she met Kaz. And Kaz was so patient. He really was the relief she needed but he wasn't the solution to all her problems. Plus his relationship with JuJu (her 5-year old son) was the sweetest thing. It was easy to see why Moni and Kaz moved from a business relationship to more.
This is a very slow burn romance, which I don't think I've ever seen pulled off this good in a novella. My God. This is my second Jade Ambrosia read and her spice is top-tier. Not rushed or forced. The scenes have impact and get your blood going. I don't think I'll ever look at a the same again and I mean that in the best way possible. All the spice scenes were chef's kiss.
This was a five star read for me. But if you're looking for your typical insta-lust wolf shifter romance, steer clear. This novella has substance and mature, well-written characters that you want to see win. Plus they feel Black.
Moonlight is about a mom overcoming loss and healing from it while raising her son. This story sheds a lot of light on a single widow/mother, Monique, who is trying her best to live day to day after the loss of her husband. Throughout the story, you feel Monique's emotions and how this loss still affects her in some shape or form, but she hides it from the world to be brave for her son, Juju. But as she is dealing with healing and living day to day, enter Kasimir, aka Kaz, who is a client recommended to Moni by her best friend, Amaryllis. Kaz immediately recognizes her as his mate but sees that Monique is very guarded and closed off, so he tries everything in his power to get her to open up. And it works, and they start to build a relationship built on trust, patience, healing, and acceptance. Monique is a mother, so Kaz considers that when prising her, because he knows that loving Moni means loving her son JuJu as well. So, as a reader, you will see the buildup of Kaz and Moni's relationship as they figure out how this will work, with him being a wolf and Moni being a mother. I really enjoyed all the stages the author wrote about overcoming grief and how to find acceptance, even when it feels like you shouldn't, because it feels like you're erasing that person's memories. I recommend this book to anyone trying to heal from a loss because it helps you feel and understand a grieving wife/mother who is now starting to heal and put her needs first again. (ARC Reviewer)
Y'all... this one had me smiling from beginning to end.
I went into Moonlight expecting a romance, but what I found was a story that felt just as much about healing as it was about love. It had me rooting for the characters without ever feeling rushed, and I appreciated that.
Now, Kaz... listen. I love a man who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to pursue it. His patience, consistency, and quiet confidence had me cheesing every time he showed up. The chemistry was there, but I really enjoyed that the story took its time letting everything unfold. The slow burn was definitely worth it.
What stood out to me most was the emotional balance. There were moments that made my heart ache and others that had me smiling so hard I forgot I was reading a paranormal romance. It all flowed together naturally.
To earn that fifth star, I would've loved just a little more emotional depth in a few key moments. I wanted to sit with the characters a little longer before moving on because I was so invested in their journey.
If you enjoy Black romance, slow-burn chemistry, protective book baes, wolf shifters, and stories that remind you it's okay to embrace new beginnings, I think you'll enjoy this one. Des Reads All Day says add this one to your TBR.
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy, and I didn’t think it was possible, but this book is even better than the first one.
I love the FMC, Moni. Even though she’s going through grief, she’s not a weak woman. She’s powerful, resilient, a great mom, a great friend, a great daughter, and so much more.
I love how the MMC, Kaz, was so patient with her and so loving. He met her where she was and did not force her to make decisions or make her feel like she had to move on immediately.
I love the progression of their relationship. I even loved the progression of Kaz with her son. Even the parents and Moni’s therapy circle were refreshing and lovely supporting characters.
I can’t believe this is only Jade’s second book. She’s only going to get better, and I can’t wait to see her blossom even more as an author. She executed this even better than authors who have been in the game for a while.
This was such a grown and mature romance. It deals with themes of grief and losing a spouse, but still had moments that had me giggling and kicking my feet.
Our FMC Moni is a widow with a five year old son, who’s still dealing with the loss of her husband nearly two years later. Enter our MMC Kaz, a wolf shifter who realizes that Moni is his mate. Yes this is a paranormal romance, but please don’t let that deter you. This would be a perfect entry to the genre for those who are unfamiliar, because the wolf-ness of it all is mostly in the background.
The romance that follows is so sweet and understanding. Moni has been carrying the weight of doing everything on her own, and without overstepping, Kaz comes in to carry some of her burdens. He’s a MAN. He’s patient with Moni, but at the same time is clear with his intentions and feelings for her.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am fully convinced Jade Ambrosia wrote this novella specifically to target my emotional stability. I came into this expecting a quick, casual wolf shifter story and left completely emotionally compromised by a masterclass in grief, single motherhood, and the absolute slowest burn to ever exist. Watching Moni try to guard her heart while Kaz patiently, obsessively dismantled every single one of her defense mechanisms was pure torture in the best way possible. It’s thick for a novella, the banter is top-tier, and the protective energy is immaculate. If you like your paranormal romance with a heavy side of emotional baggage, a non-toxic alpha, and a heroine who fiercely protects her peace, prepare to have your feelings wrecked by this beautiful, inclusive read!
Thank you Jade Ambrosia for this read. All opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I loved that the author didn’t dwell on the wolf shifter element of this story too much. We know the MMC Kaz is a wolf shifter and the FMC Moni is not but she is Kaz’s mate unbeknownst to her. Much of this world was built out in the first book of the series, so I’m glad that that was not the focus again. This story focused on Moni’s struggles with grieving her husband while raising their young son.
I love that Kaz just wanted to come in and take the mundane things off her plate. He showed up and stayed consistent.
The author says this is a slow burn but I believe the pacing of this story with the spice was perfectly executed. Kudos to another amazing book Jade!
4.5 🌟So good!! I had the pleasure of receiving an advance copy and I cannot wait for everyone to meet Monique "Moni" Brooks, Kasimir "Kaz" Williams, and Julius "Juju" Brooks. Moni is a widow raising Juju, going to work, trying to hold it all together and she's tired. In walks Kaz, the wolf shifter who wants to take care of them. This is not your typical shifter story. This is a story of healing and allowing yourself to live again. The author says it is a slow burn, but it did not feel that way at all and the spice definitely spiced when it hit 🔥 This novella will have you wanting more.
This book was an amazing breath of fresh air. Honestly might be one of my favorite books I've read this year. The author writes so beautifully and we got to watch our main female character move forward in her grief to find love again with both a romantic companion but also platonic companions also. And JuJu was so cute!! I wish we would have seen more of the Wolf but I think the romance being the focus of the story still worked out really well. Will definitely be tuned in to anything else this author writes!
I enjoyed Moonlight and the chemistry between Kaz and Moni. He was so thoughtful of her, her grief process, and her son. He gave her space when needed but was never too far away. I would have liked to see more with Kaz's wolf. Compared to this book and the other book in the series, there wasn't much with shifting. The whole shifter aspect could have been removed, and it wouldn't have changed the story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received a review readers copy of this story, and this is my honest review. I really enjoy Jade's writing style, and these books have a lot of depth and power to them. Strong characters, good plots, and details that bring you in and keep you engaged. This one especially was a emotional read and had a lot more complex moments to it which was wonderful. I really loved this book!
I love this book, it was an arc I got and it didn't disappoint. The slow burn was to die for, I love how Xavier was carried through out the book even though his presence was no longer with them. Kaz's patience is something to emulate fr, Juju was just a beautiful kid, and I was happy for Monique like she was my sister or something. I loved this read.
Soft, patient, grown love. Grief has no timeline. You can be sad and happy at the same time. The way he was patient with her and her grief was so real written.
Thank you to Jade Ambrosia for the ARC opportunity.
If you thought Moonstruck was something special (which it is, btw), Moonlight was absolutely phenomenal. Without question, this book is "Just one more chapter approved," as I could not put it down. Literally had to force myself to go to bed... I was that engrossed.
Reading Moni as she navigates through her grief, raises her tiny human, and is a BOSS was such a joy. Moni and Kaz had such undeniable chemistry from the first handshake, and Kaz was so patient. We love a consistent, thoughtful man, and Kaz was that and more. As a single mama, I love that he was also so good with JuJu, making sure the little details didn't go unnoticed.
Moonlight is a very slow burn, but the reward is so worth it. Nothing felt rushed at all. The tension and spice was Chef's Kiss.
If you are looking for a black paranormal romance with fated (and chosen) mates, and a delicious slow burn with depth, and a strong black woman who carries it all in silence until someone comes along and helps shoulder the load, without asking, Moonlight needs to be read- no, devoured immediately.
