This was the second book from Gilles Vincent I read and I can say I really enjoyed it. Short and sweet, very tense and engaging. The main characters from Djebel are used plus one interesting additional detective from Pau, France. The story takes place in the southern France and Spain, mixing Basques, Spanish Civil War, and Frederico Garcia Lorca. Although there were some naive plot twists providing easy way out of investigation dead-ends, the plot is really solid and pleasing. Although not going into deep analysis (since we're talking about a neo-noir/polar novel) it was very interesting to see some historical events, especially the GAL special forces that exterminated a large number of Basque separatists in France. Would enjoy a pinch of deeper social implications around the story.
Bottomline: A wonderful piece of mediterranean neo-noir literature with excellent plot that proves the potential of Gilles Vincent setting high expectations for his future novels.
