Texas Rangers swear to uphold the law to the letter. But Captain Ross Sinclair isn't about to play by the rules to destroy a major human trafficking cartel—especially now that the only chance to break this case just strode into his life with attitude as long as her gorgeous legs. Heiress Emm Rothschild is taking names and raising hell as she searches for her abducted sister and niece. And the evidence this wild-child turns up sets off a lethal chain of events—challenging Ross to keep her reckless determination and seductive daring up close and dangerously personal.
Now a blindsiding betrayal has Emm heading straight into harm's way. And Ross will have to put his badge and career on the line to get justice—and prove to the woman he loves that a Ranger's word is a forever bond.
Colleen Shannon's ancestor signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and her West Texas roots give her the optimistic yet inquiring viewpoint that she tries to reflect in her books. Believing in the redeeming power of love, the benefits of knowledge, with a bit of sprituality included, are the elements she most enjoys in books and that's what she tries to write. With a bit of humor thrown in for spice!
The strength of her first book for Berkley many years ago led to her nomination by Romantic Times as Best New Historical Author. She went on to win and/or be nominated for numerous other awards, including a Kiss Award for all three heroes of her Fairy Tale trilogy which she wrote for Dorchester Books.
She recently sold three Ranger series books to Lyrical Press. #16 Foster Justice debuted December 2014, and its stand alone sequel #17, Sinclair Justice, will be released in July 2015. The third series book will be released sometime in 2016, tentatively titled Austin Justice. They are her first published romantic suspense-- contemporaries about Texas Rangers.
Welcome to Texas, where everything is bigger, more intense and sometimes deadly. Emm Rothschild is an East Coast woman on two missions as she crosses the border into Texas. Part of the wealthy Rothschild dynasty, but on the short side of the wallet, using her name and breeding is not beyond her. But in a state like Texas, will it mean anything to Texas Ranger Ross Sinclair, part of the wealthy Sinclair dynasty?
A human trafficking cartel is under the scrutiny of the law, and Sinclair is out to bring them down. Emm’s sister and niece have been missing for months and Emm is convinced they are among the stolen women. Crossing paths seems very likely for Ross and Emm, but Emm’s other mission is to prevent the destruction of historical buildings that belong on the National Registry, building owned by the Sinclair family. Thanks to Emm’s dogged determination to find her family, the clues she has ferreted out and the bond forming between her and the long, tall Texan, justice may be served, but will she find her sister or will she, too become another lost victim? …Not if Ross Sinclair, Texas Ranger has anything to say about it. Will he be galloping in on his great steed with guns blazing? Has his heart been branded for love by Emm? Someone is going to face the wrath of Sinclair Justice.
Colleen Shannon’s Sinclair Justice brings the Wild West into the 21st century one bachelor Ranger is hog-tied by a city girl on a mission. Talk about opposites attracting! A fun read with a Texas sized helping of romance, intrigue and stubborn minds and hearts. Emm is a delight, a woman who will go to any length to get results and save her family when the law has failed. Ross denies what is written all over his face, that this city girl is as tough as any cowboy, smarter than most and has stolen his heart. Even better, these characters are not early twenty-somethings with little true life experience behind them, but more seasoned characters who has been down a few of the highways of life, yet are willing to take a chance on a new direction. Light enough for summer reading, filled with a little humor, a lot of pig-headedness, danger and of course, the possibility of love.
I received an ARC edition of Sinclair Justice from Lyrical Press/Kensington in exchange for my honest review.

I liked that both the hero and heroine were not twentysomethings but were older; Ross is late 40s, early 50s and Emm is in her early 30s. It was a nice change from so many romances these days and made, for me at least, the characters more relatable. That was a good thing since the story veered into over the top territory at times. It was suspenseful, with a mix of predictability and surprises. The romance was a good one, lots of spark and sizzle between Emm and Ross. They were opposite in many ways but complementary in others. Shannon wove an enjoyable story and I may read more in the series.
This didn't suck. The human trafficking plotline was actually pretty compelling and kept me interested. The romance had an almost old world feel in a contemporary book. It's really possible the author wrote historical romance previously;) Anyway, the couple didn't work for me, but still not a total waste of time.
This is the second book in Colleen Shannon's Texas Ranger's series and I had mixed feelings about this book. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Shannon and romantic suspense is my favorite genre so I thought this would be a good fit for me.
What I did like: The author created a good plot in having a sister want to search for her missing half sister and niece. Human trafficking is a significant problem and she presented some realistic aspects of what can happen to stolen teenagers and women without becoming excessively graphic. I also liked that the romance in this book was about an older couple who still wanted to find love and have a family. Emm was closing in on 40 and Ross was over 50. I also liked the mix of historic preservation, Emm’s PHD and her job of trying to save buildings on the historic registry.
What didn’t work for me: There were areas where it seemed like the writing style shifted from story-telling to information download. I think some of the elements could have been edited down and other points could have been better presented by weaving them into the story. There were points where the story got wordy and I felt like skimming and points where the story moved into a tell versus show mode.
Although I like that the romance was with an older couple, there were elements that didn't work for me. The romance didn’t work for me from the standpoint that it made such a quick jump from lust to love without developing the progression of deep feelings between Emm and Ross.
Some of the character development was overkill. I thought the “upper crust” element of their character development was over emphasized and repeated to the point that I got tired of reading it.
Emm is presented as being so smart that she thinks and speaks by constantly quoting references to literature. In real life if someone spoke like this you would probably find them pretentious, not impressive. Emm also behaves like a petulant child when law enforcement doesn’t share information with her and she precedes to break into hotel rooms and behave in the typical TSTL heroine mode as she puts herself and other’s people lives at risk. It didn’t enamor me with her, but left me annoyed.
There just seemed to have been too many times I was either pulled out of the story or had a hard time pushing through some areas where it seemed like the book was “wordy” or the plot points contrived. Although this book didn't work for me I would try others by this author.
Thanks to Net Galley and the author for an opportunity to read this book.
Sinclair Justice is the second novel in the Texas Rangers series by Colleen Shannon. This one features the sexy Captain- Ross Sinclair and historical preservationist Emm Rothschild. Emm is in Texas to evaluate a historical property. She is also hoping to speak to the head of the task force involved in a human trafficking ring, as she has been searching for her sister and niece. Things get off to a bad star for Emm when she is pulled over and arrested for speeding. Turns out the officer arresting her owns the building being evaluated and is lead on the investigation. Oh boy! Banter, misunderstanding and attraction all play a role in this romance. I was delighted to see this couple is older. Emm is 38 and Ross is fifty-two. So refreshing! We get some sexy, but Shannon teases us as she makes us wait for dessert. We see characters from Foster Justice, book one, but both books work as standalone novels.
The suspense angle involving drug cartels and human trafficking was intense but be warned we witness rape, enslavement, drug abuse and violence. It is very realistic and quickly becomes evident that Shannon researched the subject extensively. Emm puts her education to use researching for connections between where her sister disappeared, Texas and the drug cartel. She is ruthless, but quite clever. The suspense was riveting and the last few chapters had me biting my nails. We get a few chapters from the perspective of Emm’s sister while she is in captivity and I found these chapters to be dark and engaging.
This book is the 2nd in the series. I didn't read the first book, but there is enough of the backstory written into this book, I don't think I missed anything. This book contains some very emotional & disturbing scenes to read due to the nature of the topic of human trafficking. The author did a great job of bring this topic to the forefront, yet was also able to throw in some romance & laughter with the other characters. I also enjoyed that the characters were a little older and more mature.
Emm Rothschild goes to Texas for work but also on a hunch that her missing sister & niece are victims of a Mexican human trafficking & drug cartel. Texas Ranger Ross Sinclair pulls over Emm for speeding. Soon they realize they're both involved in Emm's business (she's making recommendations for the historical buildings owned by Ross' family trust) and locating those behind the human trafficking cartel. Romance sparks between them while working together.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book in-exchange for my honest review/opinion.
When her sister and niece are abducted in Baltimore, Rothschild heiress Emm has reason to believe they’re on a human trafficking pipeline through Texas and into Mexico. So she uses her newly earned PhD in assessing historical buildings to travel to Texas and covertly look into the disappearances. And as she’s speeding (literally!) into town, she’s stopped by a Texas Ranger who has the audacity to arrest her – and who can’t help being a little attracted to her, even though she stirs up memories of a long ago love that didn’t end well… Texas Ranger Captain Ross Sinclair doesn’t need the aggravation or attraction he finds with heiress Emm and when he finds out why she’s really in Texas he orders her to steer clear of his investigation. Does she listen? What do you think??
Interesting suspense and pretty graphic detail make for a raw and realistic read into the ugly world of human trafficking. I liked the idea of a hero and heroine who weren’t in their 20s or 30s so that older readers could relate.
Ross Sinclair is the Captain of the Amarillo Sheriff Department and manager of a family trust of two historical buildings. Emm Rothschild has her first job with her new PhD working with the National Parks in certifying historical buildings for restoration. She is in Amarillo on two counts: to verify the buildings the Sinclair family own and to find her half sister and her daughter that were kidnapped in Baltimore by human traffickers and smuggled into Mexico. I liked this was about an older couple late 30's and early 50's. What I hated was a white washed version of human trafficking the victims more or less pampered pets wearing designer gowns, shoes and precious gems worth a fortune.
I highly recommend this book! An amazing story and will keep on guessing who is the good guy, and who is the bad guy! The ending will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way!!! Ms Shannon you did a fantastic job writing this book!!!!
This is an enjoyable romantic suspense with an intriguing plot, interesting characters and an evil premise to fulfill many lovers of this genre.
Mercy Magdalena, otherwise known as Emm is desperate to find her niece and sister. They have been missing for several months; they are believed to have been abducted by human traffickers and taken to Mexico. She has been talking to the police in the New England area and she finally has some clues to go on and heads to Amarillo, Texas. She will also be working with the historical society in the area as a Historic Preservation Trust Officer, very convenient.
Ross Sinclair is a Texas Ranger in charge of a task force that is on the trail of the human traffickers. He is also in charge of several older buildings in the area that many want to save, which is how he meets Emm for the first time. They hit it off immediately and when she questions him about his task force and explains her involvement he is very intrigued.
This is a thrilling romance full of suspense, drama and action. The story deals with a sensitive subject matter but Ms. Shannon treats it delicately and affectively. I enjoyed the author’s voice and how she infuses humor into the mix; I also enjoyed how the hero and heroine were on the older side, refreshing to read.
Emm is an intelligent woman who came to Amarillo to find her sister and niece. She finds the man in charge and then goes about gathering evidence to help, similarly to what she did back home. She seems to be the one with the radar for information, and it is affective. I like her determinedness to get the job done.
Ross is a Texas Ranger who enjoys doing his job well. He is intrigued when he first meets Emm and is immediately attracted to her. When he finds they both want to eradicate the human trafficking cartel in the area he is happy to work with her. Their chemistry is electric as they spend more time together finding answers.
These two are very alike; they come from similar backgrounds of wealth and privilege but are grounded and level headed. They are attracted to each other immediately and find that working together has it benefits. I did think their priorities were a little off, Emm came to Texas not only to look for her sister, but also to do a job, and sometimes I felt the job was more important and then Ross seemed to find time for a family reunion before he felt the need to run after the threatened Emm, both scenarios felt strange to me but in the end things worked out.
The pace was fast from beginning to end, there is a lot of action and danger that is felt throughout the story and I read it fast as the ending is intense. I also enjoyed getting other POV’s during the story, especially her sister Yancy. This is the second book in the series and it is easily read as a standalone. I will definitely pick up the next in the series as I find myself enjoying the writing and characters created by the author.
Review contains what may be perceived as spoilers.
I had such high hopes for this book. I was excited to see that the two main characters were older, Ross is 51 and Emm is 38. A nice change from the norm. So much potential for a really good story. But that's about as much excitement as I got from it.
Ross Sinclair is a Texas Ranger and a rancher. His family owns several buildings in Amarillo which they are looking to tear down. Emm Rothchild, an historic preservation consultant comes to Amarillo from Baltimore to look at the buildings in an effort to save and restore them. She is also there to try and find her sister and niece whom she believes were somehow taken by human traffickers and sold to drug lords in Mexico.
The attraction between Ross and Emm had no real development, no build up or anticipation to the first time they act on the attraction. The first kiss, let me repeat, first kiss involved Ross's fingers between her legs and then licking the moisture off his fingers in front of her. Please. If that was supposed to be hot, it failed. For an older man who hadn't been with woman for a while, I would have preferred to let the attraction develop in a more respectable manner. Then the first time in bed with him, Emm knew she loved him and he began thinking of marriage and kids. Really?
Somewhere around this time, the author started telling the story herself while the reader stood on the outside looking in. This style of writing is not for me. I prefer to be pulled into the story by the characters and their dialogue as if I'm right there with them. The dialogue kind of disappeared leaving this reader bored. There were too many coincidences and speculation like Emm's writer friend, Curt, who somehow owned a Porsche and lived in a penthouse even though the newspaper he worked for was struggling and laying people off. Not to mention that he knew a guy who owned a private jet and could fly them into Mexico where she simply did a Google Earth search and with no effort found the mansion that looked like the one her sister was being held in. There were so many red flags about Curt, but yet Emm continued to have him help her get to her sister. Is she really that stupid?
Then there was the rescue mission. It droned on and on and on to the point where I skipped over much of it. This was supposedly a Federal investigation, FBI, CIA, ICE, Border Patrol, Homeland Security involved in locating the drug lords and human traffickers and here she comes on her own agenda. She should have been arrested for interfering. For all these alphabet agencies involved I couldn't get past the fact that there was little preparation and no real plan. And not one person remembered that the bad guy had a son? Oops. Just a little oversight on the inept investigation. “We were so damn busy rounding up the father, we forgot about the son.” Good way to blow a mission and get everyone killed.
I've not read this author before and I doubt that I could read anymore of her books. The inaccuracies and unbelieveabilty were just too much for me.
Emm is on her way from Baltimore to Texas for a job when she is pulled over and arrested for speeding by Ross, a Texas Ranger. What they both don’t realize is that Ross is Emm’s new client. When she finds this out, she goes to his house to make amends. So starts their professional relationship with a side of lust. While Emm is working in Texas, she is also searching for her sister and niece, who were kidnapped and likely taken across the Texas/Mexican border. When Ross learns of this, he agrees to help Emm find her family. His only fear is that once this is all over, will Emm go back to Baltimore and will he lose the woman that he’s come to care about?
This is a good story. There’s a lot of momentum that keeps the reader turning the pages. Emm and Ross are smart and likeable, as are the secondary characters. They do, however, go from zero to love in no time at all. After knowing each other for about a week and barely spending any time together outside a professional setting, Ross is ready to propose.
As much as I enjoyed this book, the reasons that I didn’t find it to be 5-star worthy are below.
Ross, at one point, makes a comment that he is taking a leave of absence from work and will chase after Emm if he has to (if she starts to search for her family alone), after the family reunion. What?? The woman you want to marry is likely going into a dangerous situation and your first priority is staying home for a family reunion?
I also felt the whole plotline of Emm being a historical trust officer wasn’t necessary. It doesn’t fully make sense with the other plot of human trafficking. It was a distraction that Emm didn’t need. Why was she wasting time with appointments and writing reports on historical buildings while her sister and niece are missing? In many other romance/suspense books, the characters would let nothing stop them from finding their loved ones; in this case, it takes away from that sense of urgency and makes you question Emm’s fear for their safety. That being said, it does set this book apart from others in this genre and provides a nice, if not somewhat confusing addition.
This is my first experience with Colleen Shannon’s work and I was impressed. I do plan to watch out for her other books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the pleasure of reading and reviewing Sinclair Justice by Colleen Shannon.
I received a complimentary book from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This is a new author to me so I wasn’t sure if I would like the book or not. The summary of the book sounded very good, but I usually am a little leery about picking up books written by authors I have never read before. So I held off reading this book for a while longer than usual. However, I was sorry I waited to read it because this book grabbed me from the minute I opened it and didn’t stop until the very last page. I loved the characters and the plot. Captain Ross Sinclair, the hero, is a Texas Ranger, and Emm Rothschild is the heroine. She is related to the famous Rothschild even though she does not have any of his money. What she does have is a feisty character and a stubborn personality. She is also a risk-taker who loves to drive her BMW M4 convertible way over 100 mph.
I loved Emm from the very beginning when I heard her real name – Mercy Magdalena Rothschild. She is called Emm for short because of the two “mms” in her name. I also fell in love with Ross when he pulled her over for speeding; he arrested her. She tries to beg him to let her go while he insists that she is a danger to society in her car. This whole scene is in the beginning of the book, and it is hilarious! It caught my attention and never let it go until the end.
Even though the first event was funny, the rest of the book is serious and filled with lots of suspense and intrigue. I never knew what was going to happen next. Emm’s sister and her daughter have been kidnapped by human traffickers, and Emm refuses to leave until she gets them back. Ross, of course, wants her to let him take care of it all.
I loved this book because the main characters are wonderful, good caring people. The author created well-developed, rounded people, and it was fun watching them fall in love with each other. The suspense was awesome and included lots of surprises. Colleen Shannon is magnificent. If you are a romantic suspense reader, this book is for you! Even though, this is the second book in a series, you will have no problem enjoying the book without having read the first one. In fact, I just bought the first book so I could read it later. I certainly hope there is a third book!
Heiress Emm Rothschild is on a mission she is trying to find her sister and her niece after they disappeared. Although the police in her town have pretty much given up hope; she will do anything and go anywhere to find her family...even if it means traveling to Texas to meet Captain Ross Sinclair
Captain Ross Sinclair is a Texas Ranger hard at work trying to destroy a major human trafficking cartel that has been taking girls from all over the United States. The last thing he expects on his way to work is the smooth talking and sexy Emm to zoom into town putting not only his case in jeopardy but his heart as well.
Can Ross keep Emm safe from danger long enough to find her family or will Emms willingness to risk everything to find her family put not only her life in danger but Ross's job as well? Read and find out!
I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley for my honest review.
Colleen Shannon did a great job with this book. I am happy that this is the first book that I have read by her because it was a great example of exactly what she brings to the table. Also thank you for giving us the point of view from all of the characters especially Emms sister, it made this story really pop because you get to see exactly what she is going through, I really hope she gets a story next.
This book was funny, romantic, action packed and at times very heartbreaking. I honestly read this book like it was a movie, Colleen did a great job painting the picture of exactly what was happening. As a reader you felt like it was playing out right in front of you.
Both Emm and Ross were so diverse that you assume they are one way and they switch things up and show you a side of themselves you would have never expected. Now to be 100% honest at times Emm drove me crazy but then I would have to sit back and think about what I would do or even how far I would go to find my family member and then I am back on team Emm.
This book is selling right now for 3.03 on Kindle Amazon and I think that is a great price. I definitely recommend this book and this Author.
This is the second book in Colleen Shannon's Texas Ranger's series. I did not read the first book and haven't read anything else by Colleen Shannon prior to this book. This is a stand a lone book and was easy to enjoy without having read the first book.
This book is about Emm and Ross. Emm gets a job that sends her to Texas but her real reason for going is that her sister and niece have been missing and believed to be victims of a human trafficking ring who's pipeline goes through the same part of Texas. Ross is a Texas Ranger who is not only involved in the job that brings Emm to Texas but also the ranger in charge of the human trafficking case. This book had some dark moments, hard not to with the subject matter that it was dealing with but it made for some difficult to read sections of the book.
The romance was just okay for me. I got the instant attraction and actually loved how they originally meet in the book. The problem for me was that they went from attraction to lust to love in 60 seconds. I would have liked to see a more realistic progression of the relationship. I did like how Ross made snap decisions about Emm based on her last name but then realized she was different and changed his mind. He also excepted her strong personality and didn't try to change her. Emm was a bit harder for me. I like strong, smart women but she made some decisions in the end that were anything but smart and yes she was desperate to save her sister and niece which is the only way I could overlook them.
The plot was interesting but as I mentioned a little dark and the first half of the book was great, however for me the second half got a little bogged down in details and slowed the pacing some.
Overall, I liked the book and would read something else by this author.
I was provided this book on netgalley for an honest review.
Emm has to find her half sister & niece as the police have no leads. They have been missing for almost a year and she knows that they could be dead but she can't give up. She needs to find someone to help her and that person might be in Texas so her trip is to look over an old historic building for her new employer and to hopefully find some new leads to finding her family. Ross Sinclair is a Texas ranger and the owner of the buildings that Emm needs to look at and he is the man that just pulled her over for speeding. Way to go Emm so needs to get in his good books so she tries to apology to the man and get on with her job but there are sparks there and she can't get involved. Ross is surprised as he is not looking for anything long term but a quick fling can't do any harm can it? There relationship heats up but Emm can't let herself enjoy it she needs Ross's help to find her sister & niece.
The situation with the two women isn't what anyone was expecting can she find them before it is too late or will she get herself killed in the process. Will Ross help her or will she go it alone. This is a great story with hard hitting issue that goes on still today. Human trafficking is a big money making and not all the girls are found as they are taken over the border into Mexico or even taken overseas. And many families don't know where to turn for help. What I also loved about the story is that sometimes you can find the one you have been searching for in the strangest places. Happy to recommend this book to other readers. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.
Captain Ross Sinclair is pulling out from his ranch and is surprised by the speed of the car that just raced by. EMM Rothschild can’t believe it when she sees the flashing lights and does not remember passing a police car. After stopping she realizes that it is the truck that she saw coming from the side road. After a few words she has now become indignant because the Ranger is giving her a lecture while arresting her, but she does notice the cigar in his pocket and tells him to light it up. Ross does not know that he has now just arrested the woman that will be causing him headaches, and heartaches for???? You see she is supposed to look at a building in town that is owned by his family for renovation or destruction. She also took this job in San Antonio to be closer to the border because her sister and niece were kidnapped and she is going to look for information since the authorities have found nothing. Later that first night she shows up at his ranch and offers an apology by giving him a box of the cigars that he smokes and does not mind if he smokes one now. He is hooked and it only gets worse by the next morning when they tour the building. Both of them working together is driving the sexual attraction and heat to a boiling point and by the time he figures out that he loves her his family has put a kibosh on it but not on his feelings for her, but now he can’t find her which means she has taken things really into her own hands and now has put herself in danger. Can he find her to tell her his true feelings, and will she still be alive? Read the book to find out. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
This is my first book by Colleen Shannon. I must say I was captivated by the storyline. Emm may be a Rothschild but she is independent, down to earth and I should add has too much spunk in her; at least when a loved one is on the line. Her stepsister Yancy and niece Jennifer were abducted by human trafficking cartel group and she is doing all she can to find them.
Her job as a historic preservation trust officer puts her in Amarillo, Texas. She is here not just for the job but on a mission to track Yancy and Jennifer after receiving the latest news that they were taken to Texas.
It was a pretty suspenseful, intense and emotional read due to the nature of drugs and human trafficking. However, the romance and light hearted moments helped to balance the intensity of the entire read. I liked that Colleen Shannon had good strong matured characters portrayed in this book which makes it more realistic.
My only gripe in this book:
"He caught a whiff of something as she leaned over him. He wasn't sure what it was; it was too pungent for perfume or moisturizer or any of those other female things. When she straightened, her wrinkled jacket coat, already open, fell off her shoulders, and before she shrugged it back on, he saw the slight sweat stains under the armpits on her silk blouse. Every male instinct in his body went on full alert."
As sexy as I tried to imagine, this scene just didn't doing it for me.
I received an ARC version of this book from Lyrical Press/Kensington in exchange for my honest review and I would be checking the rest of this series out.
From the beginning of the story, the desperation and sorrow Emm is feeling, because of the disappearance of her sister and niece, is palpable, and heartbreaking. The story goes into a great, graphic, and at times rough details about human trafficking, and I admit, I had a tough time reading some of the raw details, even though I have read many books on the topic before. This story brings the images and information so clear and vivid in the mind of the reader, that I want you to be aware of that beforehand. Emm is strong, fierce, and capable woman, I love her! She is not afraid to face whomever, and go after what she wants, when it comes to her loved ones missing. Both Emm and Ross are mature in age and mind, another thing I loved in this story. Their dislike/attraction at the first sight was fun, and how they got to know each other, and admire each other, until they acted on the attraction, was admirable. Ross was a true professional, solid, caring, honest man. So easy to like and respect. The way he stood up for Emm against his family, made me want to applaud. The story has a constant, expectant feeling and tune, the momentum building up, both in suspense and in the romance. It felt a bit dragging at times, moving on too slow in my mind, until the wait is over, and the full blow war explodes all around the characters. Very interesting, vivid, and vicious story ~ Four Spoons
Great Story, Great Characters **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**Mercy Rothchild was driving from Washington DC to Amarillo Texas. She had a new job as Historic Preservation Trust Officer, but she also had another mission. Her sister Yancy had been missing over 6 months and her niece Jennifer had been missing even longer. Mercy was arrested for going 50 miles above the speed limit on her way to Amarillo. The Texas Ranger who arrested her was the man she needed to persuade not to destroy two old buildings, Ross Sinclair. Mercy also hoped Ross would help do something about her sister and her niece. Mercy was a good person. She was caring and smart. When she loved someone there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them. She was daring and brave. She took a chance and did end up finding love. I truly liked her character in the twists and turns in this story. Ross was a good man. He was brave and strong, physically and mentally. He stuck to the law, which was his job. He was determined and he cared for his family, as well as his best friend and his family. He was getting a little weary of being a ranger. Ross was also a really good character and very interesting in the twists and turns as he found love and a dream he thought would never come true. This was was really good story. It had a great plot and characters. I highly recommend it to those that like this genre.
This story features a couple slightly older than typically found in this type of novel. Ross was a never before married Texas Ranger in his early fifties. He has some silver in his hair, but he still came off totally alpha, completely confident, and undeniably sexy. Emm was fast approaching forty having never focused on a family of her own, just living vicariously through her sister and her niece. When first her niece and then her sister disappear, Emm fears they have been taken by a human trafficking ring located in Texas. A recent job assignment takes her not only to Texas, but also to Ross, surprisingly the focus of her assignment and her personal investigation. The two don't hit it off at first, but attitudes quickly change as they realize the attraction between them is strong. When Ross catches on to Emm's dangerous little side investigation and her determination to do whatever it takes to get her sister back, he has to make some tough choices in order to protect her.
As you might deduce from the description of the book, it does deal with human trafficking, so expect some violence including sexual violence. While it wasn't overly graphic, it did try to portray a realistic view of the situation. I liked the story and the more realistic happy but not quite perfect ending.
I received a copy of this book from Net Galley for review.

I give this book 3 stars and half actually because of the death of a certain person but other than that, I loved it. Emm is looking for her sister and niece who were kidnapped and dragged into human trafficking. Her investigation will lead her to Texas where she meets a Ranger who is in charge of her sister's case. The first scene in the book (how they meet) is funny and you can't help but loving them and sympathizing. The proposal scene is lovely too and somehow through reading, the focus of each character on their goal makes the pages slip smoothly. It is to mention though that it is my first read for this author and I have to say, Colleen Shannon did not disappoint me. I enjoyed her style in writing and the action, the suspense, the tenacity of the characters and their determination. The plot was a great mix of romance and chemistry, friendship, family and real issues (kidnapping, human trafficking, drugs and prostitution). Some scenes were disturbing but that how it should have been I guess. I think readers will enjoy this book and they won't only like the story but they will be moved by it. It is written in a simple easy style that reaches everyone and will be absorbed in no time because once you start reading it is hard to stop before the end.
Mercy Magdalena Rothschild is on her way to Texas for a job that has come at a convenient time for her. Her sister Yancy and niece Jennifer have both disappeared, kidnapped by human traffickers, and their trail leads to Texas. Emm, as her friends call her plans to see what she can find about her family while doing her job. Her trip doesn't start out on the best foot. The man she needs to deal with both in her job and in the disappearance of her family is a Texas Ranger, Ross Sinclair, who pulls her over for speeding before she even gets to town. He sees her last name and immediately jumps to the conclusion that she is a spoiled rich socialite, just the type he has had an unfortunate experience with. As Ross and Emm work together on her job and her families case they become strongly attracted to each other. Ross realizes Emm is not the spoiled socialite he assumed she was, but she is stubborn and single minded in her determination to find her sister and niece, even if it means putting herself in danger. This is the second book in a series but I didn't feel I missed anything by not reading the first. The suspense in this books builds to a climactic end. I would definitely recommend it.
Sinclair Justice is the second in the Texas Rangers series and the story of Ross and Emm.
Captain Ross Sinclair is a Texas Ranger who is determined to destroy a major human trafficking cartel. Heiress Emm Rothschild is searching for her missing sister and niece, she will do anything to find them and is convinced they have been taken by the cartel. The two leads get off to a rocky start and do not initially get along, but they have a strong attraction to each other and grow closer. As the investigation into the cartel progresses, Emm finds herself in danger and Ross will stop at nothing to protect the woman he has fallen in love with.
Emm and Ross were both strong, likable characters and had great chemistry and it was refreshing to have two older and more experienced leads. As well as great characters, Sinclair Justice also had a great story. Due to the subject matter, it was at times difficult to read but Colleen Shannon handled the human trafficking story well and it was clear that she had done her research. Sinclair Justice was an enjoyable romantic suspense and I will be reading more from the author.
**An ARC of Sinclair Justice was provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
Sinclair Justice by Colleen Shannon appears to be in a book in her Texas Ranger series. This is my first book by Colleen and the story stood alone. I enjoyed the opening scene where they first meet on the highway.
Heiress Emm Rothschild has been searching for her missing sister and niece. The local police have not had much luck. Emm has information that has led her to Texas and has found a way to continue her search for them while working as a historical preservation trust officer which brings her in contact with Ross.
Ross is a Texas Ranger captain and is working on a human trafficking cartel case. Emm shares what she knows with Ross and it sets off a dangerous chain of events. The story delves into human trafficking. It is well written but could be disturbing to some.
I enjoyed both of their characters. They were slightly older than your average romance book couple; Ross 51 and Emm 38. It is a great story packed with action, humor, romance and some heartbreak.
Abigail was an interesting secondary character that I hope gets her own story. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
Okay first I have never read this author before and I can truly say I have been missing out! I loved this book. I cannot wait to read more in this series.
Ross and Emm, their love whirlwind, complicated, dangerous love story is perfect for me and for those of you who love suspense, romance and action. This book rivals the best I have read and I found myself holding my breath throughout the book.
Make no mistake this is not just an alpha male story, although the males in it are all alphas, but the women are fierce! They are not some mousey little ladies who are content in sitting on their behinds and letting the man do all the work. At the same time however, these men answer their call and whew....Wow!
This writer knows how to write a story and every scene is flawless and flows so well. The love making is serious business too. She writes in such a way that it is so beautiful! It isn't tawdry and so explicit that is makes it trashy. I was seriously into this book.
I believe you will love this book as much I as did if you like the combo of romance, action and suspense.
I received this ARC for an honest review through net galley.
Wonderful book! I thoroughly enjoyed it and was unable to put it down – ended up reading all day – just getting up to do a few chores then rushing back to continue reading.
This is the story of Emm and Ross and what a story it is! Both have been looking for a while hoping to find their perfect partner and though their first encounter might have kept them apart - it did not. Emm is in town to look at some old buildings and write a report that will preserve them but she is also trying to locate her kidnapped sister and niece. Ross is a wealthy Texas Ranger who owns the buildings Emm is there to inspect and also on a task force looking into human trafficking that may overlap with Emm’s quest.
This book has plucky intelligent women, men that are very good at all of the jobs they undertake and a story that is compelling. I would love to find out what happens to Abby and Yancy and hope their stories will be told in future books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the copy of this book to read and review.
