Harbor of Spies #4

Soul of the Revolution

Not yet published
Expected 10 Nov 26
Grief and betrayal forced them together. The truth may destroy them both.

Katherine White thought she knew who she was. Raised among Boston’s elite, her future seemed certain—until a revelation shatters everything she believed about her family and her past. Abandoned in a city unraveling under siege, Katherine is left with dangerous questions and responsibility for two vulnerable girls.

Elijah Pierce has spent years living a lie. As the leader of a Patriot spy ring in occupied Boston, he’s mastered the art of becoming someone else. But no alias can silence the guilt of the night his closest friend died—or erase the memory of the woman he left behind. When betrayal forces Elijah out of the shadows, he returns with a letter that could upend Katherine’s world.

With danger closing in and the untamed frontier ahead, Elijah offers Katherine the one thing he has left to give: his name. A marriage of convenience to protect her and the girls she loves. But the search for Katherine’s past uncovers far more than either bargained for—and forces them to decide whether forgiveness can heal what betrayal nearly destroyed.

Set against the thundering cannons of revolution, Soul of the Revolution is a sweeping story of identity, redemption, and mercy.

The breathtaking conclusion to the Harbor of Spies series.

Perfect for fans of Jocelyn Green, Laura Frantz, and Tara Johnson.

I’ve enjoyed each of the Harbor Spies books, but this finale is now my favorite ❤️

This was such a lovely conclusion to the series. I honestly knew very little about the events surrounding the revolution, and I loved the way the details of daily life in the era and the stress of such tumultuous times was intermingled. It was also fun to see all the characters from the previous books and their new families, as well as getting Elijah and Katherine’s story. It has been fun to get to know these characters over the four books, and I loved the resolution at the end.

I received an early copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were not solicited.

This series has been one of my favorites of all time! I have loved the characters, and the research has been phenomenal! The American Revolution is my favorite time period, and Ms. Soja set her characters within the events perfectly.
This story centers on forgiveness and choosing your own path. Katherine has lived a life a privilege until she discovers it's all been a lie. When she receives the news that her life hasn't been what she thought, she must grapple with all she's known and make decisions going forward. This includes staying in Boston or leaving with her loyalist parents when they flee.
Elijah has been a spy for the Patriots throughout the series, and it's worn on his soul but he's more than happy to have done it. He believes in the Patriot's cause. However, he's the one who brought the earthshattering news to Katherine and now he must stand by her side to get her through this new life, whatever it takes.
I loved the tenderness that Elijah showed towards Katherine and the two servant girls she brought with her. I also loved Elijah's family who were quick to embrace Katherine and the girls. They showed such love and compassion!
All the upheavals in Katherine's life brought her closer to God and her faith. I really appreciated that. Such a stunning story and I will miss this family and the stories they have told!

4 stars! Book 3 is still my favorite. This is the finale of the series where we follow Elijah and Katherine's story.

It's amazing how the cannons were transported on ice and brought a huge number of miles. Again, in this book, like the others in the series, I learned so much about the history of the American Revolution and how courageous people were.

We get to see some of the characters from the other books in this series. This is a Christian fiction romance, friends to more, marriage of convenience.

When things change in Boston and Katherine finds out some life-changing news, she and Elijah set out on a journey full of adventures. I really enjoyed how Elijah and Katherine's friendship developed deeper while they were on their journey.

The faith element in this story was so well-written and so heartfelt. Guilt and negative heavy feelings like Elijah carried are such bullies, and you can carry those around with you for a long time, but we're not made to carry that. Thank you, God, for letting us come to you and cast our cares and worries on you.

Highly recommend this series!

I received an eARC from the author, and all opinions are my own, and I was not required to give a certain rating.

This was a great story of forgiveness and redemption. Elijah has carried heavy guilt for years and his biggest challenge is to be able to forgive himself. He has hidden his feelings for Katherine for years, but when he is tasked with bringing her a letter from her father, it turns her whole world upside down and destroys everything she believed about who she is. His promise to protect her leads them to a marriage of convenience, but as they travel together, walk through difficulties, and learn to rely on each other, they grow to love each other. She helps him find peace and forgiveness and he helps her find the truth of her past. All of this is happening as a new nation is being formed and they commit themselves to do what needs to be done and walk together towards their future.

I received a copy of this book from the author as an ARC but a positve review was not required.

This is the fourth and final book in Soja’s Harbor of Spies series. This covers the time from December 1775 through the passing of the Declaration of Independence. If you have the opportunity to read the series in order, you’ll enjoy catching up on the main characters from the first 3 books in this one, but it’s not absolutely necessary to have read them first.

The main characters in this one, Elijah and Katherine, have lived through a lot so far in the Revolutionary War, and both have regrets and grief to deal with. Both learn a lot about trusting God and trusting each other, as well as forgiveness and perseverance to continue to do good. I enjoyed reading this because Soja continues to do a great job of bringing the times and the people to life.

Received from the author for an honest review:

It only left him feeling weak & weakness meant vulnerability, vulnerability meant danger...

Could she take the scattered pieces of her lice & arrange them into something new?

Action, adventure
Secrets, lies

Harbour of Spies was a new to me series. As such I felt like it could be read as a stand alone but I certainly want to go back to the beginning and enjoy more from the author.

I enjoyed the musical references as though our lives are pieces of music from that of the One who created it all.

Something I wished for far more of was the descriptions of the clothing worn by the characters. One of my favorite parts was as the author described a specific gown in Chapter 22. That's just me though, I love historic fashion!

I found the pacing steady, the characters engaging and the book overall a very satisfying read.

Elijah and Katherine's journeys were both heartbreaking and exhilarating as they realized individually and collectively that their journey, even through great sacrifice and painful life events, was all part of God’s wonderous plan.
Soja weaves a beautiful story of everyday life just before the Revolutionary War and the faith that it took to build the foundations of this great nation.

The only negative I found was that because of work and just life in general I was not able to sit down and read Soul of the Revolution in one sitting.
I strongly recommend reading the whole series, all of them are 5 star faith filled historical fiction.

Beautiful conclusion to a series I have thoroughly enjoyed! Elijah and Katherine are easy to cheer for. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Elijah after being frustrated with him in previous books, but Soja shines at making him relatable and likable once we see his POV. Katherine’s mettle and care for others despite her pampered upbringing was refreshing.

I grew up visiting the Albany area where my grandparents lived, so it was fun to imagine what it was like in the early days of our country.

Soul of the Revolution #4 Harbor of Spies by Megan Soja

Boston, Massachusetts 1776.
Katherine White is shocked when she learns a life-changing secret about her family and her past. With questions about who she really is and how her future will be impacted, Katherine cares for two young girls while Boston is under siege. Elijah Pierce leads a Patriot spy ring in occupied Boston, which puts him in danger as he delivers a letter to the woman he has longed loved. A letter that will shatter everything about her life. Katherine and Elijah begin a dangerous journey to learn answers to her questions—answers only Thomas White can answer.

Historical events are woven within the storyline and fictional characters’ lives that brings a story of danger and spies, war, redemption, mercy and forgiveness, new beginnings, secrets revealed, love and family and a strong faith. I love that the reading of the new Declaration of Independence in Boston for the first time is included. The authors’ notes include historical facts included in the story. A gripping ending to a great series.

~I bought the e-book and I received ARC copy from the author/publisher via BookFunnel (no monetary gain was exchanged), this is my honest review~
