Zero Confusion

Rate this book
Zach is tired of keeping secrets.
No one in his tiny farming town can find out he’s gay and hopelessly in love with his best friend Miles—not his conservative parents, not the judgmental neighbors, and definitely not Miles.
After escaping for college, Zach has finally built a life where he can be his true self. Rather than going back and facing rejection from his family, he starts putting distance between himself and everyone he loves.
Until Miles shows up on his doorstep.

Miles needs Zach.
When his best friend doesn’t come home for summer break, Miles doesn’t hesitate to hop on a plane for a surprise visit.
The intimacy of the weeks that follow—sharing a bed, dancing together, discovering Zach's hidden desires—awakens something in Miles. He finally understands why the thought of losing Zach is so devastating.

But falling in love is the easy part.
Coming out to family, facing an uncertain future, and risking the most important relationship of their lives may be more than either of them can handle.

Zero Confusion is a contemporary MM romance featuring best friends to lovers, only one bed, a surprisingly confident first-time Dom, plenty of restraints, and a guaranteed HEA. It is the second book in the kink talk series, but can be read as a standalone.

I think in another life i could've enjoyed both Zach and Miles but to me this book felt like a firing range of events that just are there and you have to deal with

This reads to me a bit like something that you started reading at chapter 4 and have no idea how everyone is connected

Also the main point of the book series (Apparently discussing kinks?) was glazed over many times just for the main conflict to be resolved before it even began so where do we go from there?

Zach and Miles are from farm country in Montana and have been best friends forever. Miles has always been openly and physically affectionate with everyone, including Zach. But Miles is straight and Zach is gay. Zach came out to Miles a few years back, and he was nothing but supportive. The secret stayed between them because their conservative and rather blatantly homophobic families were not likely to be accepting.

Zach chose to go away to Portland, Oregon for college, a decision which his family was not excited about. But he had to get away. Miles stayed closer to home to study agriculture, it was not what he wanted, but it was the expectation that if he was going to go to college, he would study something that would be of use when he eventually moved home after graduation.

Neither boy had much choice… the expectation was that they would continue the family businesses.

Having lived in Portland for several years now, Zach was planning to tell his family that he wasn’t moving back after graduation. Miles sensed that his best friend was growing more distant and he couldn’t handle it. These boys had loved each other with their whole hearts forever. So when Zach stayed in Portland for summer classes instead of coming home, Miles decided to show up and spend the summer with him.

What starts with the boys spending time together and exploring the city grows more complex. Miles recognizes that Zach is growing away from farm life and toward a completely different future. He also becomes possessive at the thought of Zach ever dating another man. As Miles learns about Zach’s new life and finds himself confused by his feelings of jealousy, he stumbles onto a dominant/submissive chat room on Zach's computer and finds himself mesmerized by the idea of tying his best friend up and having sexy fun with him.

This book was intense sexually -- containing high spice with consensual bondage and domination -- and emotionally as the two boys tried to navigate an entirely new way of relating to each other.

I fell in love with Zach and Miles. Miles wants to be everything Zach wants and needs, and Zach can't stand the thought of Miles giving up (what he assumes is) everything Miles ever wanted to be with him.

The cast of characters was fairly small, but included both Zach’s and Miles’ families and Zach’s sassy college friend Joel. The chat room chapters were an interesting addition to the story that took me a moment to understand, but as a narrative device, they totally worked.

I was honestly nervous for a happily ever after because I didn’t see how they would get through the angst. But once they did, I cried out of happiness for them.

I LOVED this book by Ivy Glaze and can’t wait to hear your reactions when you read it. I hope you’ll love it like I did. Even if kink isn’t your thing, these guys are a great couple. Ivy writes in an accessible way, and the book took me less than two days to devour.

4.5/5 Highly recommend.

I’m not completely sure how to rate this book! I have to say, I absolutely love this author’s writing style, but with this book I just felt like there was a bit too much packed into one story.

We basically had two stories squished into one book, and there are still so many questions left unanswered, which is why I’m not really sure how to feel about it. I would have loved for Ray and Max’s story to be its own book (which maybe we’ll still get?), because this way everything just felt a little too rushed.

We didn’t even get a proper conversation between Zach and Ray, which I was sooo looking forward to! And then there was all the family drama, which I actually found really interesting, but because we had it with both MMCs’ families, it felt like most of it was only touched upon rather than really explored.

That’s probably my biggest issue with the book: it felt like there were enough storylines here for two books instead of one. I sooo loved the first book in this series, and I completely understand that the second book is a different story, but I wish some of the family drama had either been left out or the story had been split into two books. I just wanted more time with Zach and Miles and their relationship, like we got with the couple in the first book.

I still really enjoyed the writing and the characters, which somehow makes rating this even harder because there was so much here that I loved .I just wish we’d had more time with all of it.

Expectation: a fun book about two men experimenting with the D/s for the first time.

Reality: a touching and poignant story about what it's like to grow up queer in rural "god-fearing Montana.

The plot: Zach, a lean but muscular grey eyed, dark haired twink-esque marketing major, in an act of self-preservation, decides to stay in Portland instead of going back home to Montana for summer break from uni. Zach is finally living life outside the closet since starting college. Returning home would mean shoving himself back in, to hide from his homophobic town and family. The only downside to staying would be not spending the summer with Miles, his lifelong best friend (whom he is secretly in love with). Miles, the typical blonde, blue eyed broad shoulder farm boy next door, senses the ever-growing rift in their friendship, shows up on Zach's doorstep declaring he's stay for the summer. Mile's world is rocked when he discovers not only does he love Zach and probably has his whole life, but that Zach is interested in the D/s dynamic, triggering something inside him. Could Miles be a natural and competent Dom to Zach's sub?
Due to an emergency the men are forced to return home thrusting them back into reality before they examine their new relationship, Miles sexual awakening, and compelling Zach to confront everything he has been running from.

The novel is both heart breaking and heartwarming, giving the reader a glimpse into the hardships of being queer in a small mid-western town. The excruciating choice between living life in the closest and denying any chance at real love or coming out and losing everything, including family and friends.

There is light and experimental BDSM throughout the story, but it is used more as a tool to demonstrate how perfect the two MMCs are for each other and Miles sexual awakening, not the defining plotline.

Zero Confusing is a wonderfully honest and sincere novel, with a deep emotional impact. If you are kink apprehensive, don't let the use of bondage as storytelling device, dissuade you from picking up Ivy Glazes novel. You would be missing this beautiful friends-to-lovers story.

I absolutely adore a longtime best friends-to-lovers romance, and this book definitely delivered on that front.

Miles and Zach have been inseparable since they were kids, growing up together in a small town while working on their family farms. Now they're attending different colleges, only seeing each other during the summers. Zach has been secretly in love with his straight best friend for years, and after realizing he needs some distance to move on, he decides to stay at school over the summer. Unfortunately for his plan, Miles shows up on his doorstep, throwing them into a forced proximity situation that neither of them saw coming.

The chemistry between these two was one of my favorite parts of the story. They've always been incredibly affectionate with each other, blurring the line between friendship and something more, so watching Miles slowly realize that his feelings for Zach run much deeper than friendship was incredibly satisfying. I loved seeing him come to the realization that the person he'd been waiting for had been right beside him all along.

One aspect of the story that surprised me was Miles discovering Zach's interest in BDSM. Watching him dive into research because he wanted to understand Zach's desires—and make sure he could give him everything he wanted—was genuinely sweet. While it stretched my suspension of disbelief a little that Miles, as a virgin, seemed so naturally confident in the bedroom, I still had a lot of fun with those scenes. The spice was playful, emotional, and definitely entertaining.

Another layer I really appreciated was the way the author handled the challenges they faced coming from conservative, homophobic families and a small town. Both Miles and Zach feared losing the people they loved if they came out, and that emotional conflict added meaningful depth to their romance. I especially found myself cheering for Miles as he found the courage to speak his truth, and I loved seeing his siblings rally around him with unwavering support.

Overall, I had a great time with this story. I think I went in expecting a heavier BDSM focus similar to the first book in the series, so this one felt a little lighter in comparison. Instead, it leaned more into the sweetness of two best friends discovering they were always meant to be together. While I would have loved a bit more angst and a stronger exploration of the kink elements, this was still an enjoyable, feel-good romance with lovable characters, plenty of chemistry, and a satisfying friends-to-lovers journey.

If you're looking for a heartfelt MM romance with years of pining, forced proximity, and two best friends finally finding their happily ever after, this one is definitely worth picking up.

I went into this knowing it was part 2 in a series, but was a standalone book. I enjoyed it so much, that I immediately went and ordered a paperback copy of the first book.
This is an incredibly sweet story, that just happens to have a main character that enjoys B&D. I enjoyed the cuts to the 'Kink Talk' noticeboard, where our MC Zach, chats with other kink enthusiasts - some of whom have or will get their own books. I imagine that people who have come for hardcore spice and B&D may not think there was enough, but for me, the level was perfect. There were truly hot chapters, but there was also a beautiful love story at the heart of it.
Farm boy Zach is in love with his best friend, Miles, and is sure is bestie is straight. Zach is attending college in Portland (went there for the first time last year, great city, so was excited to see part of the book set there), he stays there for summer classes and Miles comes to stay unexpectedly. Then when Miles discovers the kink chat website, his interest is piqued.
This is such a great story, not just the emerging love story or the discovery of kink interests, but a great story about family, homophobia and acceptance.
I loved these two characters, as well as some great scenes with their siblings.
Highly recommended, and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series!

Zero Confusion by Ivy Glaze is a breath of fresh air. Part of the Kink Talk series, Book 2 features best friends Zach and Miles. When Zach leaves his rural hometown to study in Portland and embrace his identity as a gay man, he leaves behind his best friend, and the man he’s been in love with. It’ll take more than distance to keep Miles away from Zach though. Miles tracks Zach down and with no concise plan, stays with him in his cozy studio…sharing his small bed (ugh I love forced proximity so much). A truly, touching and beautiful love discovery unfolds between these two best friends, despite the curves life throws at them.

The writing is excellent and really captures the genuine, good hearted souls of Zach and Miles. It’s easy to fall in love with both of them, especially Miles’s golden retriever personality and Zach’s honesty. One thing I love especially about the Kink Talk series, is the very minimal number of red flag characters. Miles and Zach are total green flags. Are there characters that are harder to digest? Yes, but they are always given a chance for redemption.

I love how this book celebrates unrelenting love, the fight for “your person,” and the joy of finally having everything you wanted. There are so many celebrations and joyous moments. Hands down a 5 ⭐️ with lots of yummy🌶️!!!

Ugh 😭 my heart. This was so good. I was on a rollercoaster of emotions throughout most of the book but so worth it. So grateful I was offered an arc for this book, it was so beautiful.

Miles is the sweetest golden retriever. I just wanted to wrap him up and keep him in my pocket and protect him forever. He was so sweet and lovely, but with the spiciest side to him. My heart hurt for him so bad when Zach left, I wanted to reach through the screen and hug him. I’m so happy he got everything he wanted in the end.

Zach. Oh you sweet beautiful mess. I was so conflicted with him. I loved him so much and understood and empathized with how he was feeling but also wanted to knock some sense into him. I found myself yelling at my phone alot. I understand the need to run to protect yourself but of all people to run from, the one person who has never let you down or abandoned you? I was so frustrated. Like boy just communicate. This is why I hate the miscommunication trope. It would have solved so much.

The siblings were so perfect. I was so happy with how supportive they all were. Especially Miles’ siblings when they all had the Spartacus moment, i was cackling.

This book was seriously so amazing and I am very happy I read it. Incredible read.

Who doesn’t love a best-friends-to-lovers story! Zach and Miles were so cute.

I absolutely loved watching these two figure out that maybe their friendship has always been something more. Growing up in small-town Montana, family expectations and homophobia add plenty of angst, and there were definitely moments where I wanted to yell, JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!

The kink chat was such a fun addition and gave Miles a great way to explore a side of himself he didn't even realise was there. But what I loved most was that underneath the spice, this is really a beautiful story about self-discovery, acceptance, and two people learning to choose what makes them happy.

I fell hard for Zach and Miles and was absolutely nervous about their HEA because I couldn't see how they were going to get through all that angst. But when they finally did? My heart was so happy for them!

Sweet, emotional, spicy, and with two characters you can't help but root for. I loved this one and can't wait for more from the Kink Talk series! ❤️

-ARC REVIEW-

Lordyyyyyyyyyyy I adored these two! ❤️

Miles was just the most adorable thing. He was so sweet and head over heels in love with Zach, even before he realized he loved him as more than just a friend. And once he realized it…..woooo boy it was good. His confidence, zero hesitation, etc…just top tier.

Zach was a cutie as well. He knew he’d been in love with Miles his whole life and did his best to not let it affect their friendship in a negative way. His self-sacrificing toward the end broke my heart but I understood why he did it. He wanted to protect Miles and thought it was the only way.

The scene where Miles comes out to his family omggggggg I loved it. The siblings were so fantastic. Loved them all. Was definitely grinning the entire time I read that.

The spice was spicing as well! Definitely did NOT disappoint.

I’m so happy for these two. I enjoyed their story so so much! ❤️❤️❤️

Zach and Miles are the cutest!! Who doesn't love a best friends to lovers trope with a little bit of kink? This is the second book in the Kink Talk series and I absolutely loved what Miles and Zach brought to the table.
Their whole growing up in a small town vibes and discovering that your straight best friend you are in love with may not be so straight after all and may also be having the same feelings. And then there is the kink website, is such a great story plot the inhibitions and the real talk on the chat is the best kind of therapy, if you will for discovering a different side of yourself.
With that being said, I love Miles and Zach's journey of self discovery both separately and together it is so well written. Especially for the fact they are from a small town - the homophobia aspect and learning to be yourself. This book had a bit more angst then the first one and also to me a little bit more heartache - but the HEA is was excellent.

Thank you Ivy for the ARC! I loved reading about Miles and Zach, such lovable characters ❤️ And shout out to Joel too, what a fun friend.
This was a really sweet but also emotional best friends to lovers story with a queer awakening. The mutual pining really tugged at my heartstrings! It was definitely a bit more angsty than the first book but just as good. It made sense though because they both come from a conservative small town and coming out is not easy sadly even these days. I really appreciated how Miles accepted his own feelings as well.
I don't want to share any spoilers but let's just say I'm glad the main conflict was resolved the way it was (even if it did made me stress lol). The spice was also really hot, especially with Miles being so inexperienced. And as always the kink chat room was such a good addition, I can't wait to read the next book 🙌

Ivy Glaze writes great books and I really enjoyed this one. The main characters were great (though again, maybe a little too complementary) - I loved how Miles was really into drawing without being an exceptionally talented artist, when does this even happen in books?? I enjoyed the issues explored, though the resolution was a bit too simplistic.

Unfortunately, what didn't work for me was the BDSM. There just wasn't any feeling in it. It wasn't fun or sexy, and it didn't really share the characters' experience, so it didn't feel particularly meaningful.

The end of the book felt far too focussed on weddings given gay marriage wasn't a theme in the book. Okay, this is a me-not-the-book problem; everyone else will love it.

I liked Miles. I liked Zach, kind of.
But the 3 act breakup, no.
Zach runs back to college, blocks Miles number wallows in self pity and does nothing about it. Miles comes out to his parents and knows Zach is the love of his live and the one for him and then it takes him weeks, WEEKS to go and see Zach again. Sorry but no. Don’t get me wrong Zach shouldn’t have left but what takes Miles weeks to go get him.
This disconnected me too far from their relationship and even bevor them I wasn’t too much invested , maybe they had to little time together on page.

I’m thankful to have received an ARC for Zero Confusion. I did not read book 1 but felt like i understood everything since book 2 was different main characters. I really loved Zach and Miles and loved their relationship of best friends from youth and that they’d always been so close. I love how their relationship developed. The family relationship for Zach was written well and I liked how it turned out in the end. Looking forward to reading book 1 and more of Ivy’s books!

Another easy read story from Ivy. Zach and Miles are lifelong friends, but lifelong lovers is a wish and a dream away. The BDSM element is again a light touch and I would have enjoyed some more from the 'Kink Talk' gang we had in book 1, but was fun how it tied in. This has angst, but is low, a tale of one kind of love turning into another and families realising that love comes in all forms.

If you pair the angst of being in love with your best friend that you’re oddly codependent with, with an mmc that’s a bit inexperienced but makes up for it with enthusiasm and some bedroom bdsm activities and a bit of a farm life backdrop you end up with this spicy and amazingly sweet book.
This was just so much fun!

I can’t wait for book 3!
