Try Again, Baby is a low angst, big feels romance and the book I'd want by my side on a beach or in a hammock under a nice shady umbrella..... IF I hadn't devoured it in record time already! Put this one on your reading list, it's so much fun and might be one of Julia Wolf's most smile-inducing, light-hearted books ever, with a few twists along the way to keep things interesting.
And, ohhh, these characters! I ADORED Mazzy Emerson and Ben Wells- they were reigning from the top of my Julia Wolf couples list by the end. They were meant to be together, like ice cream and apple pie, but the obstacles they face, together and apart, were what made me love them even more with each chapter I read.
They first crossed paths far from home, forming an instant bond and connecting so easily they decide to take a chance and see where the night might take them. What Mazzy wasn't expecting when she said goodbye, was the surprise she came home with after their passionate encounter. Contacting Ben months later didn’t turn out as planned and the anguish she felt was hard to come back from. I felt her pain and was dabbing my own tears along with Mazzy.
Despite being challenged again and again, Mazzy's biggest joy is being the best mom she can to her sweet, now four+ year old daughter, Kateryna. This little girl is a bright little cookie monster and a heart-breaker in training, stealing the show wherever she goes...remind you of anyone??
Their story takes an interesting turn when her well-meaning (or match-making?) cousin (who needs her own book, please) takes matters into her own hands, digging in and challenging Ben in a way he never expected in his wildest dreams.
What I loved most about Mazzy and Ben, meeting again- aka, getting to the good stuff- is what happens after the puzzle of misunderstandings pieces itself together. Mazzy knows what it's like not having him there, but when Ben realizes he's been deprived of Katty's magic for so long, he's heartsick and devastated, but makes up for lost time with his own hilarious brand of 'new dad' moments you'll have to read for yourself to fully appreciate.
Ben wears his big heart on his sleeve and there isn't a moment when he keeps his deepest feelings to himself. Keep a few tissues handy-Julia wrote his Ben-iest moments with so much emotion, you could feel the overwhelming love and adoration he exudes for both his fascinating mini-me and always, always Mazzy-Mazz.
She's trying to slow his roll, but it's impossible to ignore Ben's warm, upbeat teddy bear charm when he lights her up from head to toe by just being near. He makes sure to let her know, with every steamy glance or over the top gesture, that she's exactly what he needs, melting her like butter on a hot summer day. HOT, Hot and hotter!!! These Ben wooing his woman moments are not to be missed.
It may have taken a wee bit longer for this couple to find their way back to each other, but the happiness of all three of these perfectly matched lovebugs will always come first- real, enchanting and always quirky- and they wouldn't have it any other way.
Try Again, Baby was an absolute delight to read, with it's engaging cast of characters to catch up with and new ones to learn more about in the future. May the silly texts and witty, banter-filled Wells brothers love-light continue to shine brightly in upcoming books in this series.
* I was given an early copy of this book and this is my honest and freely given review of Try Again, Baby!
Julia Wolfe's Try Again Baby is sooo good, I loved it!! Ben and Mazzy’s love story is so fun and full of s*xy and steamy banter. Ben is such a dirty talker and a H.O.T. Rugby player trying to figure out his life after Rugby. Mazzy is a young college student when she meets Ben. During a series of unfortunate events she experiences one of the best nights of her life with Ben. FYI - Ben has a pretty epic night too! Here is where the good stuff begins between Ben and Mazzy. That one-night stand ends up with two pink lines. Thanks to Ben being a twin(Roman from By The Letter) there might be some moments that tug pretty hard at your heartstrings while Mazzy tries to reach out to Ben and throughout their love story. Love the tropes in Try Again Baby - sports romance, Rugby player, surprise baby, twin mistaken identity, and more. But when these two finally see each other again the tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife! Honestly, Ben is knocked so far off kilter emotionally that my heart hurt for him and the time that was lost. Many hilarious and heartfelt moments throughout the entire story especially when Ben discovers he’s a dad. Will Ben and Mazzy find the balance they both want and/or need between both of their school, work and personal lives? I really love it when the author ties the name of the book into the story with lots of meaning. This author does just that with the title, Try Again Baby. I love Julia's writing style, because her characters are so real, lovable, a bit stubborn at times, and just downright fun! The author is so very talented when it comes to writing steamy between-the-sheets scenes and wow does she bring the steam in Try Again Baby! Erin 5 jalapenos steamy.
I’ve been (not so patiently) waiting for Ben’s story to come out ever since we were introduced to him in By the Letter (Shira and Roman’s book that I also recommend). He’s so silly and such a golden retriever that fully dives into things thrown his or his brothers’ way. While I will say an accidental pregnancy trope isn’t usually my favorite one, I very much enjoy the way Julia writes hers because it doesn’t feel like they HAVE to be together just because a kid is involved, but the men do take responsibility pretty easily (of course including Ben). I think the age gap made sense in terms of this story, and that it is something Ben still wars over and takes into account when looking upon their potential relationship. Can’t wait to see the rest of the Wells’ brothers stories since we’re off to such a great start!!
Julia wolf try again baby This book is incredible! I think it’s the best book I’ve ever read, it’s absolutely amazing. It’s so funny and witty and so uniquely unusual in the best way . The style of writing bringing these characters to life is phenomenal, they are the sort of characters you would love to meet and your routing for them straight away. This book captures your heart from the very beginning and doesn’t let it go. The love shines so bright and it’s absolutely dripping in humour and heart. It’s a must read if you like super strong sexy heroines and loveable thoughtful goofball sexy bad boys This story is so beautifully written and truly encompasses two incredible characters on their journey to the truest love x
