I was dead. No, I was dying. My last memory were the blinding headlights of a lorry.
I told myself, if only I'd listened, if only I'd stayed. But it was too late. The night had won. The fight was over.
That’s not the beginning. Far from it, my story began in a small town up North, in Lancashire, a tiny place called South Hill. A place where I was just a seventeen-year-old and the words vampire, werewolf, and witch were creations of fiction.
I loved writing and drafting Clandestine. It was definitely a story I had inside for a long time, I know that now because it poured right out of me.
I cannot wait for this to be released so you can all take a bite out of the fantasy series that is the Night Falls! For more information, check out a special page, all about it: http://www.josepheastwood.co.uk/night... :D
We’re introduced to Brandon Holmes, an eighteen-year-old young man getting ready to begin his life’s journey. The only problem is he doesn’t know it yet. A simple night out on Halloween brings him face to face with a cousin he never knew existed, as well as a family his mother hid from him his entire life.
While the choice if seemingly his, he’s more or less kidnapped to begin his training as a Dark Phaser under his grandfather and other family members. Once there, he discovers things about his real father he never imagined.
The author captured teenage angst perfectly and you’re stuck between wanting to rejoice in the power Brandon has while also mourning the life he wanted to have but can’t. His frustration is relatable and at times, you want him to kick some tail and go back to his old life.
The story is quick paced and fun as you follow along with Brandon as he makes his discoveries. There’s an interesting balance between the Dark and Light Phasers, similar to night and day. It’s a tremendous balancing act between the mythologies surrounding the main character and it’s pulled off perfectly.
I don’t say this often, but Clandestine is one of my favorite new reads and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Another remarkable word setting by Joseph Eastwood!
Clandestine sees you following Brandon's journey shortly after his 18th birthday. The world he had come to know, whilst being real, was also false, and he has a hard choice to make.
We follow Brandon as he encounters his cousin Kari, whom he never knew about, and learns that he is more than just a mere human being. The world of the supernatural no longer seems just fantasy to him as he learns the truth of Vampires, Slicers, Werewolves, and witches - to name but a few.
At first, Brandon finds this all rather overwhelming but as the book progresses you can see the changes in his thought processes - as he does a lot of growing up - though there is still room for improvement. He soon learns that he is what they call a Dark Phaser, and that just because they operate more at night - doesn't mean they are the 'dark side'. And that the Light Phasers aren't necessarily good. I'll not say more on that, but merely ask you to read the book and have your opinion on it.
I've always loved Joseph Eastwood's stories, and this is of no exception.
If you love the mythical, the supernatural and the down right weird, then this is a book for you!
Night Falls started off in a really interesting way. We are thrown into the main character's life right away, and it got me hooked. This was a very fast paced novel, and a quick read.Things happened really quickly, so you have to make sure to pay attention when reading this book, so you don't get lost.
The characters were really fun to meet, and get to know. Brandon, the main character, was very interesting and it was nice to listen to his thoughts throughout the book. I liked meeting the other characters as well, and seeing where we would meet them again in the story.
The book was well written. Joseph kept the story interesting, and didn't dwell too much on moments that weren't important to the story. Also, something that I found really cool is that the blurb for the book is the end of the book, and it makes so much sense to you after you read.
We were left with quite the cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series when it comes out. Joseph did a great job with this book, and I would recommend it to fantasy lovers. I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
