There was no summary for book one after about a year between releases. So I re-read book one and I really enjoyed it again which made this book all the more disappointing. There was no reason for the boring, over used, un original school setting. The only people who got something out of it are the people that can cast fireballs and create mana strings, ropes and knot them. Absolutely zero originality with the academy and even the mc said the local dungeons were boring. All the new characters could have been introduced in other ways. Less than a quarter of the book was interesting and fun to read. With the terrible ending I want to throw this series into the abyss.
This was a downgrade from the first book which was already not the strongest writing. It drags and I dropped it all together for a while. The dynamics between the characters is not very well done and feels fake a lot of the time. The so called twist at the end feels shoe horned in and stupid. It's unexplained and poorly done. The MC gets 'tricked' like 10 times by the abyssal mana, and each time is surprised he didn't realize what was happening. Hard to believe when he is supposedly so much smarter than everyone else. It honestly just feels lazy
I was enjoying the book but then it introduced the main antagonist and then I lost all interest. It was interesting seeing the world building but then it felt 100% forced. For the entire book the combat takes a back seat and it's more of a academy book. The next book probably is going to be another random jump in type of book. Not actually sure never read the last half a chapter.
Generously gave it 4 stars. This has a terrible cliff hanger at the end. I like OP stories and this filled the bill until the last half. The antagonist to the MC and his family is apparently all powerful and able to twist fate. I really do not like the way this story is headed. I loved the first book and disappointed with the story and especially the direction of this one. If it’s another year before book 3 may not bother reading it.
The mc is OP and never in true danger due to being unnaturally Skilled and under the protection of parents who could make demands of the Tier 3 king ultimately in control of the Tier 1 kingdom they live in. Also there's editorial mistakes (e.g. "dpells" instead of spells).
I so enjoyed the first book in this series and had hoped that there would be an additional one soon. But slowly gave up on a second book in the series until now. I enjoyed reading the first book again before I started this one. I enjoyed both. Now here is me crossing fingers that the third book in the series will come out soon.
The pacing of this book has been all over the place and I really did not like the ending and ensuing cliffhanger. It feels forced and like a cop out. I don't think I will be continuing the series. 3 stars only because it was interesting enough to read until 95%, I would have dropped it then if I hadn't been so close to the ending.
I really like this story the characters are easily relatable and the story has legs to go quite a few more as long as the author can keep the mix of training and battle even
This was a great book to read but the first book in the series foundation and this one picked it up fantastic with the World of Magic and explaining how the world works
This story of a young man who has dreams of his previous soldier life was a fascinating fantastic read. In this book our guy is trapped in a dungeon while his family moves to the next tier kingdom.
I don’t really like the sudden turn at the end of the book. Still a great read though, but a big reason I picked up the book is how chill things are and the MC progression. Hopefully next book doesn’t turn into realm wars like TBATE.
Another great chapter in this series the protagonist has gone on a journey of getting stronger met new friends and old ones while an enemy lurks in the shadows manipulating fate to his own ends.
Not as good as the first one: i expected more "academy life", but still very good in exploring common tropes and making it more congruent with the world building. MC start being OP for his level, but that is what we are looking for
This book was really really great and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I liked the story. It had depth and made you want to identify with the characters. I liked the premise, and the end was great!
So one book that was basically mostly a training montage We can do that is a foundation but another book that's also mostly a training montage is getting to be too much. Also absolutely hated the ending
From a strong start in book one, to a happy go lucky, run of the mill friendslop. Then end was interesting but rest was pretty weak, you could turn 10 pages and nothing of worth was happening.
The setup for the remaining direction of series promises a continuous struggle against overwhelming powers of evil genius. That’s too dark and depressing for my reading enjoyment. It was a surprising turn at end of book two. A shame in my opinion...
