Qifrey and Olruggio's backstory absolutely ruined my life and I am never recovering from it. I knew it would probably be tragic but that did not prepare me for how emotive and heart wrenching it was.

finally. Finally getting qifrey's backstory and it hurt just as much as i thought it was going to. he is such a sweet kid who has gone through so much and didnt want to hurt anyone or himself again. but then we got the goat olruggio. and he is literally a ball of sunshine. keeps on chasing qifrey to be his friend, help carry his sins, and doing everything he can to make qifrey just a little bit happier. this volume is EVERYTHING TO ME and this series is so beautiful

g encore relu l’intégralité de la saga et c tellement un banger guys l’école des sorciers but make it woke c bien écrit c extrêmement beau avec plein de détails super c’est touchant ça parle de sujet deep de manière équilibré (les vss le validisme les inégalités l’adultisme etc), tous les petits sorts et inventions trop cools ……. This series never fails to make me feel bittersweet feelings with every volume. I'm honestly constantly surprised by how beautifully Shirahama presents her characters and makes you fall in love with them.

The irresistible urge to throw this goddamn phone at the wall is strong. If someone could please just shoot me and the tell the author it’s their fault! Matter of fact, if I could just get my hands on some of that ink, I could just use the tears pouring down my face and erase this godforsaken memory from my head :D

This. This was the most devastating volume so far. Followed up by volume 15 too, which I stupidly thought was most devastating T_T My perception of everything before has changed. When I reread this, every detail will have me wailing out of despair. Oh how naive young Izabella was when they first read chapter 40, not a clue in the world about what was really happening. Olruggio. The sweetest, kindest, most caring, most selfless man to ever exist. Qifrey wasn’t erasing his memory just to keep his secret hidden, he erased his memory because Olruggio gave him permission to 🥴🔫 And he has had to do it, over and over again. Fuck. The pain and suffering these two have caused me is immense. This doomed yaoi couldn’t be more doomed wtf.

But aside from the pain and suffering, it was cute to see little Olly and Qifrey! And I loved seeing the parallels between Coco and Olly. I know people always say that Coco is truly Qifrey’s daughter, but holy hell, she’s got much more of Olly in her than we thought. That easygoing-ness of Olly’s youth and that wonder in magic really reminded me of early volumes Coco. But of course, their strong desire to use magic to help others is what really sells it. Coco is truly like her fathers!! <3

“It never ceases to amaze me how strong children can be.”

I think the quote perfectly encapsulates the whole story of the manga.
The story explores the world of magic seen through a child’s eyes; what starts at first as innocent wonder, slowly transforms into disappointment toward the flawed magic system and its questionable rules. You watch as the harsh reality has the ability to destroy a child’s positive view of the world and how they start questioning the ethical aspects of the rules of magic. However, it’s refreshing to see how the resilience and hard work that only a child is capable of can make a change.

This volume was by far my favourite. We finally get to see Qifrey and Olruggio’s backstory and what exactly is the reason behind Qifrey’s actions… and it’s so much more tragic than i anticipated. There’s such a lingering sadness throughout the whole volume, especially knowing that the cycle of pain that Qifrey must go through is pretty much endless.

Si un amigo puede compartir los momentos bellos contigo, ¿por qué no podría también ser cómplice de los momentos malos? Siento que la relación entre Quifrey y Orugio es tan genuinamente hermosa que me emocionó muchísimo. Llegó un punto de la lectura en que no podía dejar de llorar: por la emoción, por la tristeza, por la melancolía y por lo cercana que se sentía esa relación entre dos amigos que, de una u otra manera, no tenían más opción que seguir adelante, incluso si uno de ellos debía mentirle al otro una y otra vez. Cada vez que Orugio hacía sentir a Quifrey en calma, seguro y protegido, ese árbol volvía a brotar en su cuerpo. ¿Cómo no sentirse triste ante una travesía tan trágica entre dos brujos que se quieren profundamente y buscan desesperadamente la forma de quitar ese parásito que poco a poco se está apoderando de Quifrey?

La conversación entre ellos cuando eran pequeños, vista luego en retrospectiva, hace que su vínculo sea todavía más fuerte y bello. Orugio ha estado siempre al lado de su amigo, nunca lo ha abandonado e incluso se ha convertido en el protector de su taller. Por otra parte, Quifrey ha tenido que lidiar una y otra vez con el dolor de borrarle la memoria, como ya habíamos visto anteriormente. Y como si se tratara de un paralelismo, al final del volumen aparece el proceso de Coco con su madre, como si Quifrey recordara y entendiera esas lecciones que, de tanto repetirlas, quizá ha terminado normalizando y desensibilizando. No tengo más que palabras de elogio. Me encantó demasiado todo lo que ocurre en esta parte de la historia.
