This was a really good story buoyed by some outstanding literary skill. The writing was crisp and clear, heavy where it needed to be heavy and lighter, but still skillful, where it needed to be. I was amazed by the facility of the writing.

The story was good. Rather than springing an unbelievable circumstance at the end so the heroine can ride off into the sunset with her hero, Hodge built a case step by step, in keeping with the heroine's job.

I was a bit disconcerted at Callie's back-story; we're told she came to hide out, but never truly understand why Errol's bequest was such a boon. It doesn't really detract from the story, but it fails to set a solid "why", and I found that off-putting.

Still, the quality of the writing in conveying mood is stunning.

She was a What?

I had not ever heard of Callie's job. So it was interesting to find out in the book about it. I liked the way the mystery was solved. I must look for the next book in the series!

A delightful book

I enjoyed this book immensely. The author did such a good job of baiting the reader then ever so slowly reeling them in. In today's world it offered some much needed and lighthearted joy.

The writing was so poor plus a shallow story line. Not for me.
