💀 ROBIN’S REVIEW: THE AUTOPSY

🪦 THE BODY

Tendrils: A Novel of Horror
By: A. M. Bacon
Publisher: Independently Published
Publication Date: June 30, 2026
ASIN: B0H5KS8QXF
Page Count: 477

Condition: Camping was apparently not dangerous enough on its own.

🔪 FIRST INCISION

A relaxing weekend outdoors gets obliterated when something vicious arrives and starts treating anything alive like lunch. What follows is a frantic battle involving humans, monsters, shifting loyalties, and some extremely questionable chances of survival.

🩸 THE AUTOPSY

Mr. Bacon wastes very little time before everything goes completely sideways. The action comes hard and fast, but there are enough quieter moments between disasters to keep the book from becoming one long screaming sprint through the woods.

I especially enjoyed the constant uncertainty surrounding who could actually be trusted. When survival already looks grim, adding secrets and suspicious motives is basically pouring gasoline on the campfire.

There is a wonderfully ridiculous amount happening here, and I mean that as a compliment. Just when I thought the situation had reached maximum insanity, something else showed up to prove me wrong.

At 477 pages, it is definitely a commitment. A little trimming in a few places would have tightened things up, but the story kept me curious enough that I never felt stranded in the wilderness with the page count.

🫀 STILL HAD A PULSE

The old-school creature-feature energy worked extremely well for me. It is messy, violent, unpredictable, and completely committed to having a good time while ruining everyone else's day.

🦴 WHAT BROKE

A few sections run longer than necessary and could have been tightened without losing much.

Apparently the monsters were not the only things with enormous appetites.

☠️ CAUSE OF DEATH

A wild survival-horror ride packed with creatures, distrust, bloodshed, and enough escalating madness to make staying home sound like an excellent life choice.

4.5 rounded up.
Another winner from this author.
Although aliens aren’t usually my go-to favs-I will say that the storyline and its characters varied enough that I believe it has something for everyone.
Aliens….werewolves….shape-shifters….Oh My!
Overall this one was a little lengthy but thankfully didn’t drag.
This story is packed with nostalgia-a straight up Creature Feature. I was concerned with the size of the cast but they’re all very well developed and distinct.
I always love the balance between the to trust/or not to trust trope-which this one is dripping with.
I will not spoil or say more-highly recommend going in blind as I did….you can’t go wrong! Kudos again, Mr. Bacon! Keep them coming!
