Listened to the audiobook and I’m glad I got it included with Spotify because it wasn’t exactly worth money. I actually love the sentiment behind the book which kept me listening to the end and there were some nuggets worth hearing. It didn’t include anything that felt new or surprising but I guess it’s good to hear it all in one place. I did not appreciate the Elon Musk examples, nor the other examples that were supposed to be about freedom from society and carving your own success path but were really about making unattainable amounts of money. I equally thought the advice about not conforming to the system didn’t acknowledge that it is quite hard to put food on the table and a roof over your head if you don’t have a job for most people… There were too many mini sections with subheadings that made the audiobook narrator sound like confused as if reading lots of fragmented sentences. There were also weird errors that made it clear that AI was reading it. Much of it sounded like it was written with AI too, mashing together lots of things other people have said on the internet on the topic. Finally, I kind of get the constant references to the universe and stars but it undid the meaning for me. I am not a star or planet; I am a human being so I’d rather just have proven Science to justify life changes than wild celestial metaphors.
I actually listened to audiobook by Marieme Seck called Regulate Your F*cking Nervous System. The science of calming a body that forgot how to rest. (I didn't find it on Goodreads, so I just picked one of her books)
It's was well worth the listen.
This isn't one of those audiobooks filled with fluff. It's short, direct, and packed with practical advice for anyone who feels overwhelmed, constantly distracted, burned out, or stuck in people-pleasing mode.
What I appreciated most was how the author explains the science behind calming your nervous system while offering realistic techniques you can actually use. It's a great reminder that sometimes the first step toward getting back on track with your goals isn't working harder—it's helping your body feel safe enough to rest and reset.
If you've been feeling mentally exhausted or like your brain won't slow down, I'd definitely recommend giving this audiobook a listen.
