Mark is a successful preacher and attorney who owns his church and has a seemingly perfect family. However, there is a secret he’s been hiding from his family for six years. He had a one-time affair with a black woman, who has just showed up on his door to reveal the child he knew nothing about. His perfect family is scattered as they all deal with his past sins.
His wife, Claire, cannot accept his child into their home because she is afraid that it will cause the whole church to turn against them. Mark’s daughter, Sarah, once modeled her life after her seemingly perfect father, until she learns what he did. She goes on a downward spiral filled with rebellion and anger as she lashes out against everything she once believed in. Ciara, Mark’s six-year-old lovechild, has lost everything—her mother, her aunt—and now she is living with a new family who doesn’t want her there.
Mark cannot believe his sin has resulted in the Lord’s wrath upon his family. He has lost his daughter, his wife, and now feels as if God Himself has walked away. Will Mark be able to realize that his love child isn’t a curse from God but a blessing meant to humble his family and bring them closer to His presence? If not, everything Mark worked hard for will wither away.
This was a very good book The author dealt with racism and adultery in a very good storyline. I would recommend this book to others Will make a great book discussion
I loved this book. After a young girl's mother dies, she is introduced to a father(Mark) who never knew of her existence. Imagine how shocked Mark's wife is when a biracial child is bought to her doorstep with claims that her white husband is the father. I was anticipating whether or not the family would remain intact in the end.
I enjoyed this story and loved how the author showed differing viewpoints from each character on the topics of infidelity, racism, forgiveness and redemption, of which they all were dealing with. I have to admit that in the beginning I was skeptical about the ten-year-old narrating and I questioned if a child that age would really speak the way she did. Ciara had to grow up pretty fast, so she was wise beyond her years. So, I get it and it worked. The author has a great ministry with this book and has the potential to reach many with the lessons provided in this story. I would definitely read more from this author.
I have never read this author before but this book was selected by my FB book club. I really enjoyed it. Very well written. Very inspirational. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster, but at the end I felt so peaceful. Very good book. I would love to read more from this author.
This book dealt with real reissues and the wondrous works of God are evident. The actuality and realities displayed throughout the story were heartfelt and genuine. I recommend this book. I approve this read as a great example of God's grace, mercy, and unconditional love toward mankind!!!!!
This book was such a wake up call for me. I was having a hard time seeing pastors as human. We all fall short of the glory of God, ALL, including pastors. No one is excluded from making mistakes but how we use those mistakes is our greatest blessing.
When Willows Weep was well-written with compelling characters. This was my first time reading this author, and I was not disappointed. There were a lot of dynamics in this story that played a part in the overall plot. But surely, faith and forgiveness were the main themes. A preacher must figure out how to accept sins of his past which is resurrected in the form of a sweet six year old little girl. His wife (who thinks she has to lead a perfect life to satisfy her husband's congregation and her high-society friends) and his daughter (who adores her dad and despises her mother) faces nearly insurmountable obstacles as they too are affected by his past. The author touches on physical abuse, racism, alcoholism, and many things in between. Many lessons to be learned between the covers of this novel. Kudos to Charlay Marie for a reminder of the important things in life!
A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! Excellent book & very entertaining characters!!! A real life story of hurt, betrayal, forgiveness & God's amazing love! This was my first book by this author but, it will NOT be my last! I love her writing style & ability to draw on God's Word to meet our every day life's challenge!! This is a MUST read for every Christian❤️❤️❤️
This book was surprisingly better than thought it would be. It was about a man whose sin comes back to haunt him. It's a reminder that all though we can be very remorseful for a wrong doing, there are still consequences to be paid. One bad action can affect everyone around you. The author did a great job with this story. Please take out some time to read this one. Definitely a tear-jerker.
Church Folks...... This books shows how just cause you go to church, are you there to learn y The word or are you there to show you are better than others. This book gives us a family ready to implod, until a little girl is left on their doorstep, and forces the family to embrace their faith in God and each other.
Awesome story of forgiveness and overcoming issues that people deal with! An inspirational story on trusting, believing, and having faith in God, he will never forsake you. There are times when things will happen in a person’s life, it’s better to run to God than away from God. Cast all of your problems on Him.
Sorry to say that I only finished this book so that I would have another one for my reading challenge. The writing was about on par with fan fiction. I could go on but you know the saying if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
I enjoyed this book, I liked how the author dealt with racism and adultery. It was sad to see how Sarah just gave up on everything she learned from the bible and her parents, she gave up on her faith and God to easily. The devil slid right in and had his fun. I would recommend this book to others.
I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. I love reading Christian fiction and this author did an amazing job telling the story. I would highly recommend this book.
A great story about forgiveness and Gods love for all, in spite of our flaws. It makes you look at yourself and understand that we are all imperfect, but perfect enough for Him!
It was a nice story but the characters felt very flat, too stereotypical in their roles. Also, something about the way the book was written seemed juvenile, even the parts of the book that came from the point of view of the adults. It feels like you are reading the characters' journals and not an actual novel.
