Rate this book
A Train Called Forgiveness is Dan Erickson's first novel. It's a story about a young man coming to terms with an abusive childhood.27-year-old Andy Burden was a child member of a religious-based cult who suffers from an undiagnosed case of paranoid schizophrenia. The story juxtaposes Andy's schizophrenic present with the memories of his childhood in the cult. Throughout the story, Andy begins to discover that the voices in his head are simply echoes from his past. He learns that he has the power to control them. He also begins to listen to a different voice, a peaceful voice that speaks directly to his heart. As Andy journeys across the country by train, he meets an array of unusual characters and begins to find new ways of understanding and dealing with his abusive childhood.Dan Erickson is a writer, songwriter, and musician. He teaches communication courses at a community college in the Pacific Northwest. Learn more about Dan Erickson's work at This book is written in a unique style that combines prose, poetry, and song. Originally created on Dan Erickson's blog, the book is organized in chapters and sub-chapters. The printed version provides the reader with a lot of white space and is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The Kindle formatting tool did not leave as much white space and did not follow the block paragraph style. It is still very readable, but for a higher quality piece of art, you may want to purchase the paperback version.
