AJ

The lies between my parents and I came to light and now I’m working on a new life for myself. Along the way, I have my trusty superhero, Mason, to lean on when I have a hard time standing or when my crazy ex-boyfriend continues to feel he has a claim on me.
Porter has trouble understanding that there hasn’t been an ‘us’ for more than three years plus all the issues he had brought upon himself. My father was right, drugs do kill. My other concern is the growing feelings I am having regarding Mason. There’s something between us I want to explore but I keep getting mixed signals. Here, I thought that after telling my parents about my lies and having their full support, things wouldn’t be as complicated as they are.

Mason

My parents divorced before I even made my entrance into this world. My father has been obsessed with that love for years while my mother searches for love in all the wrong places. I don’t want a place to call home or a girl I can claim as mine. Except… Ainsley Janine –better known as ‘Nine’—has some special power that makes me question my preferences. The more I try to stay away from her, the more she pulls me closer.
Exploring the possibilities of having something steady in my life isn’t a problem; it’s the long term that worries me. In addition to that, the scumbag she dated years ago keeps popping up everywhere we go. If I could use my license to kill, maybe I can stop worrying about one thing and concentrate on what to do with the green eyed girl who keeps me awake most nights.

5 “9 and 10 go to together, no matter what” STARS

“A love story, his and mine. Ordinary, and yet extraordinary. One, unlike any other.”

This series captured my heart with the first book, Unlike Any Other. The Colthurst-Decker family hold a special place in my heart and Ainsley Janine (AJ) is such an awesome, real, kickass female character. I simply adore her! I was really looking forward to this book, Mason Bradley just did things to me...

...in the first book. I seriously wanted to see him and Ainsely Janine Colhurst-Decker together.

 photo image.jpg2_zpscszhhmni.jpg

I knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park and there would be tears, angst and who knew what else. Boy was it ever, my emotions were...

AJ (Nine to Mase) and Mason (Ten to AJ) are best friends, grew up together and have this one-of-a-kind bond where no amount of time or space could ever sever their connection. I love a best friends to lovers story especially when it’s done exceptionally well like this one was.

In addition to the usual concern with what happens to the friendship if they crash and burn? There was also the fact that AJ and Mason dating would shake up the family dynamic: Mason was also friends with AJ’s brothers – MJ and JC – she is a triplet. And finally, the biggest obstacle of all was Mason Bradley. Needless to say, they go for it.

"Let's dare and try."

Mason is this insanely smart, sexy and superior man with stealth and lethal skills at securing, protecting and if needed, destroying. We finally learn that Mason owns a security/special ops business. Yet, for all of his “ninja skills,” he is emotionally stunted. He didn’t have the greatest of role models for a loving relationship as his parents’ divorced before he was even born yet they both loved him very much. He has commitment issues of any kind (he won't even sign a lease on a place to live) and is afraid of loving, of getting hurt and of doing complicated.

AJ and Mason were great together...

...although he’d unwittingly taints these beautiful moments between them with his fear, indecision and hot and cold attitude. He kept screwing things up and hurting AJ, which was the last thing he wanted to do.

“You’re making me walk through fragile glass, and I fear it’ll shatter with anything I may say wrong.”

"We shared blissful and magical moments, also the unsurprisingly complicated times where I had no idea how to fix the situation or how to react to what he said."

I truly enjoy Ms. Burgoa’s writing style. She’s creates these rich, realistic characters and their development is beautifully done. The growth of AJ from the first book to this one was inspiring and gratifying. She was always strong but she’s more confident, happier and wiser. And the journey she takes us on with Mason was so real. His fuck ups, his insane thoughts and his “come to Jesus” moment were all genuine and while I wanted to shake him at times, I could empathize with him.

 photo image.jpg3_zpsrpnliy9e.jpg

“This girl – no woman – has always had the power to keep me unbalanced. Nothing she says or does is expected. She’s my fucking weakness, the one person who can warm my heart with one smile.”

This was so engrossing that I read it in one sitting and now I’m sad that it’s done. I just loved that all of AJ’s guys were in this one too. I simply adore her family and feel like I’m a part of their clan.

“No matter how high, fast, strong or long the waves are that crash against us, as long as the five of us are together, nothing will break us.”'

This one ended with a teaser for the next book, Uncharted: JC’s story. There were mentions throughout this book of JC’s past and I can hardly wait for his story!!

My Thoughts - Story
After finishing up Unlike Any Other, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. I wanted to know what happened next to Mason and Nine and if they would finally find true love.

Ms. Burgoa definitely didn’t disappoint with her story of my favorite characters.

Just a bit of a suggestion though…read the first book before you try this one. There is so much that goes on in the first book, that by starting the second book – you may be confused at first. I would say that probably the first 15-20% of the book is dedicated to trying to fill you in and give the back-story of each of the characters.

This book made me laugh…made me pissed…made me cry and finally made me swoon. AJ grows in this book in so many ways. She finally has her family back and she finally takes a chance on a childhood friendship turned to more.

I think the thing about Ms. Burgoa’s writing is her ability to make the reader FEEL – these aren’t just words typed out on a piece of paper or computer screen – this is written from her heart and you can tell because of how in depth she writes her characters.

Another winner and I can’t wait to get to the next in the series, Uncharted.

Re-Cap
We left the first book with a few stolen kisses…now it’s time to see if Mason and his Nine have a chance at love. And what happens to Porter?

English Review

You can read this novel as a standalone but you will better understand the characters if you read the first volume. I think it can be confusing without reading the first one (which is a very good book, so read it !) It’s the story about AJ and Mason, told in dual POV.

Who says AJ, says her guys : her fathers Gabe and Chris, and her brothers MJ and JC. You can’t not love them. Her fathers are hyper protective and her brothers are… what brothers are  they made me giggling more time than once. I’m in love with this family.

AJ, who is a strong woman despite her past, struggles against her feelings for Mason because she knows that if their story ends badly, she will lose her best friend.

Mason has issues too. As he isn’t a long-term relationship type of guy, he knows he will hurt her and he doesn’t want to. I wanted to slap him to makes things clear in his head !

A lot of things happen in this book, I can’t reveal more without spoiling.
I cried, I laughed, I wanted to punch someone (I will not say who, you’ll find out).

I like Claudia Y. Burgoa’s writing and I’m happy to have the next novel to read it right now !

☆ I received an RC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! ☆

3.75 stars!!

For an up and coming author, Claudia Burgoa is definitely a rare talent wading to break out at the seams.

After finishing bk1, I had been waiting to see what would be in the future of both AJ and Mason.

Nonsurprisingly, in eloquent fashion, the threads to their history and subsequent romance are as intricate and complicated as ever.

I had a wide range of thoughts and reactions while going into and reading this throughout. It was just that unique perplex. One minute I was content and relaxed, and then the next, I was either raging or pent up with unbridled feelings and emotions.

Everyone has pasts and hardships. But what's even harder is to let go and open yourself up to life again and to take risks and chances within it.

Unsurprisingly Complicated 'unsurprisingly' definitely lives us to the book title as it was cuts into the unforeseen twists, turns, and obscurities that each of us has to face and what paths we can choose to take.

A powerful and beautifully written second installment of the "Unexpected" series!!

Thought to come...but it was wonderful!!

This is Mason's book. It picks up right after Gabe's book and continues. I love Burgoa's writing...she creates such complex characters and Mason is very complex. The boy has issues. And Nine is there the whole way waiting for Mase to get his shit together as he continually wrestles with his internal dialog which ain't helpin! But you can't help but fall in love with the broken little boy.

Interesting happenings with Porter (love that name...I have 4 Porters in my family and this is the first series I've read with that name). I know his is the last book in the series and I really look forward to him finding his HEA. In the meantime he is a butthead!

Some hints as to some terrible romantic trauma in JC's past which I suspect we will read about in the next book.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series.

Check out my full review on Bookaholics Not-So-Anonymous.

Ah, where do I even begin with this book?! After reading Unlike Any Other, the first book in the Unexpected series, I had fallen in love with the entire Colthurst-Decker clan and was already chomping at the bit to know what Claudia Burgoa had in store for Ainsley Janine "AJ" Colthurst-Decker and Mason I. H. Bradley. And now, after having finished Unsurprisingly Complicated, the second book in the series, in one sitting, I find myself emotionally wrung out after everything AJ and Mason went through. Goodness, these two had to truly want to be together and to fight for what it is they wanted. But it was when they realized that they actually needed each other and were worth the risks that things leveled up, as if the previous trials were meant to prepare them for the ultimate test of love, trust, and commitment.

AJ's story of heartache because of what happened with her family and then with her ex-boyfriend was a painful one to read in Unlike Any Other. Here, she wasn't just a mere survivor; she started her life over and believed she was worthy of more than what her ex had forced upon her in the past. She wanted a love similar to what her parents shared but a love story that she could call her own and one that she could have with someone who loved her as much as she loved him. She truly grew up and matured in Unsurprisingly Complicated and the ups and downs of her relationship with Mason taught her important things about herself, most important of which was her inner strength and that she had a family that would always be there for her, providing her with acceptance and support and not asking for anything in return.

And then we have Mason. He may have been physically and intellectually superior to a lot of other men, but the poor guy had a chip on his shoulder the size of the entire state of Washington and was often so confused by his own feelings and reactions that he was screwing with himself. There were times I wanted to give him a hug, and then there were times I wanted to slap him upside the head. He was dealing with a lot of emotional baggage courtesy of having parents like his and living the kind of childhood he did, so I more than empathized with how emotionally unavailable he was every now and again and applauded how much he wanted to try to be the kind of guy who deserved to be with AJ. Even when I was miffed at him, I still continued to cheer him on, hoping that they would get the ending their love story deserved.

I squeed. I sighed. I smiled. I stilled. And yes, my heart experienced that squeezing sensation that I associate with being so immersed and invested in a story and its characters that everything else fades away. When I read books that are part of a series I love, I always go into each one hoping that I'll love it as much as the one that came before. When a sequel surpasses my expectations, then calling me a satisfied bookaholic is a vast understatement. Unsurprisingly Complicated exceeded the bar that was set for it by its predecessor and that ending has me itching to get my hands on book three in the series. While I wait, however, I've gone ahead and bought Claudia Burgoa's past work to satisfy my for her addictive storytelling. My rating for Unsurprisingly Complicated is surprisingly simple: five-plus stars. ♥

This book was surprisingly good. I have to admit that it took be about 20% to get into this one, though. The beginning contains SO MUCH information that was tossed around a lot that I was really really confused. Let me alleviate any confusion for you: Ainse (also known as Nine to Mason) is a triplet with two brothers. Her parents are a gay couple, Chris and Gabe, who are super famous and thus super rich. Her brothers are apparently in a band of some kind and otherwise work with their parents at Decker Records. Ainse also writes music for her brothers and gets some royalties from it, but that’s not what she wants to do full time. Instead, she’s in the process of building a music school for young children – but it’s not yet done – so right now she’s substitute teaching at a local school to make money. Ainse used to secretly date a foster brother (dislike! but not the focus of the book so I was ok) who was an utter asshole who ripped her heart to pieces.

Mason has known the Deckers FOREVER. His dad owns a security company that provides bodyguard and other services to the rich and famous – mostly celebrities and rock bands and such – and this is how Mason’s dad became friends with Gabe & Christian. So, when Mason was young, he spent a ton of time with the Decker triplets and became close to all of them. NOW YOU WON’T BE CONFUSED. #Yourewelcome.

I really enjoyed the connection between Ainse and Mason – and I loved how it grew even stronger as the book progressed. I was dying for Mason to just give it a chance and try it out with Ainse. It’s so clear to everyone else how Mason feels about her, but he just can’t get out of his own head to recognize his feelings. When they finally did get together it was incredibly sweet and adorable. I was giddy enough for both of them.

The passion and heat between the two characters was definitely enjoyable, and occasionally comical – especially when Ainse’s family tried to cockblock. The dynamic between the triplets was a nice addition to the story and I loved the family togetherness they had. There’s also the expected drama between the ex and Ainse – GET HIM, GIRL.

I go back and forth with this book because I really loved the story and grew to love the characters, but I didn’t always love they way that the story was presented – SO, it’s a hard one for me over here. The ending was satisfying in the ‘everything that I wanted to happen happened’ kind of way, even though I think it was a little presumptuous with how it all went down. Regardless, it left me pretty happy & it set up another book to come – so #win.

After much internal debate – this one gets a 3.5!

As a reader who loves stories full of angst where characters have to work for their HEA I was looking forward to the continuing love story of AJ and Mason begun in the previous installment. This story didn't disappoint as both friends had to work hard to overcome their pasts to become something more. The emotional baggage in this tale was indeed heavy, and instead of being beaten by it, it made them stronger to culminate in a very satisfying story.

In the previous installment my feelings regarding AJ were conflicted as she wavered from spoiled to childish at times. She was left bitter by all the things that happened to her, from a dangerous ex-boyfriend to a devastating loss, and it brought out a less than pleasant side. In this book though she's grown older and wiser. She's a woman of strength, no longer lost or willing to settle for a relationship that doesn't make her feel whole. While her ex isn't completely out of the picture she refuses to give him anymore power over her. To that end it's her lifelong friend Mason who meets the criteria of what she's looking for as he's always there when she needs him. It won't be easy to transition from friends to committed lovers though as his past has left its mark on him too. Nothing worthwhile comes without a struggle and AJ is now more than capable of going after what she wants which will take readers on a complicated yet engaging journey to HEA.

Mason is a strong and sexy man who's loved AJ since they were young but always held himself back. Now just might be the time to finally claim the woman who keeps him on his toes with her witty and flirty banter if he could only put his past in the past. Not having the best role models, or childhood, has left an indelible mark that keeps him from committing to someone. His views regarding love are skewed and it has him making some hurtful decisions in his burgeoning relationship with AJ that left me frustrated yet aching for him. He's a smart and capable man in every other way but when it comes to love he's still learning. No mater what though he's always there when AJ needs him most and it's that fact that had me rooting for their HEA, knowing it was possible.

This book started out a bit muddled as the dual POVs tried to find a balance but it didn't take too long to get into a reading groove as I reacquainted myself with the complicated family dynamics. This story definitely needs to be read after Unlike Any Other though as the groundwork is laid in that story for everything that happens here. All the past hurts make the characters who they are now and drove them to change. With its larger than life characters and intense gamut of emotions this is a book that's hard to put down. The sensual connection between Mason and AJ adds to the intensity and to the entertainment with their playful moments adding to the fun. Though I was exhausted after reading this book I'm greatly anticipating the next installment in hopes of getting to know more about MJ or JC.

After reading ‘Unlike Any Other’, I was really looking forward to reading Ainsley and Mason’s story, and the author didn’t disappoint!

This is a standalone novel but it’s worth reading the first one in the series, so that you get a rounder view and understanding of the key characters, as well as background information.

Ainsley and Mason have been friends since childhood, and Mason is pretty devoted to his ‘Nine’. He’s always there for her, even when he’s travelling to mysterious destinations on secret missions.

At the end of the first book, they cross the friendship line and things become a bit blurry for them. Mason has been scarred by his parents’ relationship. He fears loving and losing someone. He knows that Ainsley could be the one who could break him. He has no permanent home and he keeps himself distant from others.

Ainsley, even though she has suffered a traumatic and abusive love affair previously, is willing to take a chance on a relationship with her best friend. She’s impatient but loyal, caring, and gives 100% to those she loves.

I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry and passion between the main characters – although sometimes I wanted to knock some sense into Mason! I loved that his head was telling him one thing to protect himself, but his heart was making him act in completely the opposite manner! The emotion between them in some scenes was really intense.

The banter between Ainsley’s brothers, JC and MJ, had me giggling! I love the relationship that the triplets have between them. Their solidarity is heartwarming, and makes me wish I had that relationship with my own siblings.

The one thing that really strikes me about this author’s style is that her characters are very real and very relatable. Fear, hurt, anger and love – everything they feel, you feel.

Really looking forward to the next book in the series.

As we follow AJ continue on her journey of getting better and moving on with her life, her one constant, Mason, is still there to lend a hand when she needs him. But what happens with the way AJ needs Mason changes. AJ is fighting with herself for the way she feels for Mason. Why? Why does she want to be more than just a friend with him? When she knows it could end badly and she would no longer have her friend in her life.

Mason is staying busy with his job. He knows that AJ is working through her issues from the past but when did they close the line of friends? How can he want her so badly when he knows that he will only hurt her? He is not the loving type of guy. He does sex, period. No feelings, no cuddling, no future so how come AJ makes me feel stuff he never has before?

As AJ and Mason try to just go out on a date and agree that this will not change their friendship but their hearts have a way of talking to each other. When the date turns into a month then two and then six, Mason feels his life closing in on him. He has to leave. He can not do this or be what AJ needs.

Mason thinks he is doing what is best for AJ but in the end, breaking her heart, does not kill her but makes her strong. She will survive this. She is not the little girl who lets the guy push her around. She will get over him in time. But will Mason get over AJ? Can Ten handle life with Nine in it?

I wanted to smack Mason so many times in this book but when you get to the end and realize how he looks at love, things make sense. AJ, wow, her character was so must stronger and has grown. I enjoyed the author’s writing and look forward to more from her.

He has loved her dearly since he was eight. She is the one who centers him and offers him the anchor he needs for all his feelings and emotions. Though he has never admitted to her or to himself that he loves her, he has successfully remained in her life to support her and rescue her in times of need. Mason is "Ten" to Ainslie's(AJ) "Nine". They go together.

Well-written,emotional, and extreme engaging, the series continues with the focus on Aj and Mason. This love affair has been int he works for years... it only took one kiss three years ago to shake both of them up. It has been like a slow simmer that finally grew to a boil.

AJ is an interesting character. She is fragile because she has been through so much, yet inside she has the fortitude to survive and be independent. Having survived her life with Porter and losing a child has brought a new wisdom regarding relationships and love. Abused women do not walk away from an abusive relationship easily. In AJ's case, losing the baby and being abandoned by Porter made the difference. Through all of these low points, it is Mason who has been her constant, always being there for her and never asking for more than her friendship.

The Colthurst-Decker family is an interesting and unique one to the core. The next installment will focus on JC... I wonder what new trouble he has gotten himself in!

Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and review.

The beginning of this novel was complicated, and I put it down twice but after finishing I'm glad I stuck with it.

There are two POV's in this book, Nine's and Masons. So starting out, I had a hard time getting all the characters straight but after I had them straight it was smooth sailing. Nine's been broken up with her ex Porter for awhile, but he's not ready to let go. He appears throughout the book, and it's hard to believe that Nine even got messed up with him. Mason has been her friend longer than he wanted, and his character really moved me until he did that bullshit move and tried to break up with Nine. I don't understand men and their friend category issues. Mason wanted more since childhood and either didn't understand or did and got cold feet. Nine was classic! I loved her character and her smoothness. I adored how she was and overall entertainment for this book was four stars. I was major confused in the beginning of the book, with all the characters, so I would recommend to the author to do longer chapters, or a prequel to smooth the confusion. Other than that I enjoyed the book!

If I thought I liked book 1, I absolutely fell head over heals for book 2. I love AJ so much she is just a totally awesome kick ass character. And who am I kidding, I've read and loved every book Claudia has published.

In book 1 we get the hint that Mace is totally in love with AJ and has stood on the sideline waiting for the right time. What we did not get in book 1 is the level of damage Mace's view of his own family life growing up has done to his soul.

AJ, while still healing from her own wounds of the past fights an uphill battle against the demons of Mace's past. You will have to read this series to find out if she wins or not. And I HIGHLY recommend this series.

I can't wait for the next book, will it be MJ or JC?

Received from the author for a honest review. The title fits this story perfectly. The love story of Ainse & Mason was unsurprising but complicating. I alway knew they were meant to be together but their past and up bringing makes their journey very complicating. Ainse has been hurt but is welling to put her heart out there. Mason has alway been there for Ainse but runs away from feelings.
This is the second book of the series and I really enjoy the family of Decker-Colt. They fight, tease and love with everything they got. Looking forward to learn more about our second of the triplets- JC.

A wonderful addition to the series. This is Mason's story. We get to find out exactly what kind of work he does, and learn more about his history. His relationship with AJ grows and changes amid the passion they share. There is plenty of interaction with the rest of the family and learning more about them. There is also danger to be faced and heartbreak. Can't wait for the rest of the series. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

“I place my lips on the side of her neck; my tongue playfully taunting her soft skin as I think about my next move.”

5 surprisingly sweet stars!!! One of my all time favorite series!

Book two is the continuation from book one, but continues with Mason’s story and AJ’s ever present as well. AJ is continuing her journey through life and working on herself. And Mason is always right there, her constant companion. And while dealing with her ex, Porter, she’s also struggling with these nagging feelings she has for Mason as well, but he’s giving her mixed signals. But what she doesn’t know is that Mason struggles with his feelings for her as well, but he doesn’t know what to do with her and he’s afraid of having a long term relationship. Will he break her heart?

I love this series, and I haven’t read them in order, I know, I know for shame. But I will say I love Claudia, she knows how to write one heck of a book. Her characters are relatable and fun, not to mention not cookie cutter characters, they have problems just like everyone does! I’m obsessed with this series and quite frankly I’m obsessed with Claudia!

This book is about AJ and Mason. About Mason overcoming his fears which do take over when his mom visits. And I do love when gabe and Chris tell the story of Chris's fears here to AJ. It is their book but the ending and the hints about JC and his tragic love story in the past will grab your heartstrings. I don't know what he went through to have him to this point but I am intrigued and so feeling for him.

That is what Claudia Burgoa does through her writing. She entrances you. You are drawn into the characters and their lives. Her poignancy grabs you and doesn't let go.She writes with vigor and emotion. This style she creates with her recreation of the past in stories to help those in the present and with her characters being in the moment and being open to telling their thoughts. Her expressive way of writing keeps you intrigued and in the moment.

There is some danger and intrigue in this story as well. Porter is here causing some problems but in the end even if you don't want to you hope he gets better and finds stability and love.

MJ and JC are a hoot when together. The way they are written in this story will have you smile. JC you know is going through something and you feel such empathy for him and the jaw dropper at the end with him wow. These two are the loving sweet fun brothers who add support for both Nine (AJ) and Mason. They are the comic relief and the fixers when necessary.

Gabe and Chris are as loving supportive and amazing as ever. I love how they are towards Mason. They like him but when it comes to their daughter he is enemy number one.

The beauty of the story comes from AJ and Mason. Mason who has loved AJ since he was 8 and how he is scared of committment due to his parents pretentious divorce and what he went through with him. AJ and her wanting a fairy tale romance like Gabe and Chris's her dads.

When they give in to their feelings it starts out so sweet and fun. They make no labels and let it go where it may. Mason takes some heat from her brothers in a fun adorable way but mainly they are worried about him. They know he is scared and afraid that AJ is ready for more than he can handle. Chirs and Gabe are protective parents but it is sweet and a hoot to see.

This is a discover period for both AJ and Mason. They discover themselves and each other. MAson has always been there for AJ and always will be. HE does do some stupid things but he is new to the relationship deal so he is forgiven. I felt for him when his mom came that was too much and everyone but AJ knew the moment his stupidity hit what went down.

This was a sweet buildup from friendship to love. They didn't want to lose each other as friends so they went slow but AJ was ready before Mason and this tends to strain a few things. And scare demons into coming out to play.

Mason's romantic gestures at the end so so swoony. And her parents approval as well will have you smiling like the chesire cat. These two are meant to be together. Mason is the rock and AJ is the romantic. He is the ying to her yang. The story is their coming together and being not only friends but lovers. A wonderful showing of friends who are more and how they build the relationship and trust to become more.

Wow... I'm speechless after finishing this amazing story. I wanted A.J. to get her happily ever after and wanted Mason to be the guy for her, and was thrilled to pick this book up after finishing Unlike Any Other.

A.J. and Mason have been best friends for years, both of them fighting an attraction as they are scared to ruin their friendship. Mason doesn't know what a real relationship looks like and A.J. has only had her horrible one with Porter. Things between these two do not go so well at first, both of them hiding and fighting their attraction, but when A.J. finally relents its Mason that scares me in this book.

Mason wouldn't know what a real relationship or love looked like if it smacked him right in the face, so when things get heated between these two, its always him doing the freaking out. A.J. is surprisingly very understanding of Mason's issues and doesn't push him, but doesn't ignore how she feels about him.

Seeing Gabe and Chris dealing with Mason being in A.J's life as more than a best friend was quite hilarious. I absolutely adore these two and how protective they are of their baby girl. Then there is J.C. and M.J. who keep telling Mason that he better know what he's doing, and are extra protective of their sister as well.

Not only do these two have to figure out their relationship, but there's dealing with more of a mess that Porter brings to their lives, as well as everything else going on. I loved getting to see more of what Mason really does and seeing A.J. finally being happy and moving forward with her life.

These two are amazing together, the chemistry undeniable, the friendship and history beautiful, but my favorite was watching them move through their relationship and really figuring things out. It's not easy for either one of them, even though everyone knows they love each other, getting Mason to admit it is the difficult part. These two are meant for one another, but before they can figure it out a lot of things go down.

I didn't doubt that these two would figure their stuff out, but it was heartbreaking to watch them figure it out through this book. I adore these two characters, and all of the characters in this series, and couldn't be happier with how this book ended. I know there is more coming in this series, and more secrets that need to come out with M.J. and J.C but I'm thrilled with how A.J.'s story ended. This book is absolutely beautiful and a definite must read if you've read Unlike Any Other!

Since Unlike Any Other AJ has moved on in her life and is attempting to move forward in healthy way. She is trying to do things that she missed out on because of the way she grew up and then the abusive relationship she was trapped in. Her ex-boyfriend has been popping up and it is clear that he is not only having some problems, but doesn't think that he and AJ are through, which they most definitely are. AJ finds her feelings for her oldest and most reliable feelings growing stronger and changing into something a lot less "friendly". Mason has always been there for AJ and cares for her more than anyone. He doesn't plan to ever have a relationship with a woman that lasts more than two hours, and that is not what he knows AJ deserves. He also doesn't want to risk their important friendship if they were to try and fail at a relationship. the problem is that he is finding it harder and harder not to give in to his attraction to her.

I really liked the first book in this series, and this one picked up right where the last book leaves us. This book, like the first in the series, focuses on people's lives in a way that allows us to really get to know the characters beyond just their attractions to one another. This book spans a good amount of time, so we really get a sense of how the characters' lives are moving forward and how they are dealing with the challenges they face. The attraction between AJ and Mason is strong and intense. Their friendship is strong and their physical chemistry is very hot. It is easy to understand why neither would want to jeopardize a relationship that has been crucial to both of them over the years, but all the same I was really hoping that they would give the "something more" a try. Things get tricky when Porter pops up again and starts becoming a problem for AJ with his lack of accountability for his past behaviors, and refusal to believe that they are over and have been for a very long time. I have enjoyed other books by this author and I will continue to read more by her in the future.

In Unlike Any Other we delved into AJ’s past relationships both with her parents and her ex. We also learned about the relationship that her parents had built (you could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out who her parents were! I thought Claudia was going in a completely different direction). When I finished Unlike Any Other, I opened Unsurprisingly Complicated immediately.

We are now picking up AJ’s story and intermingling it with Mason’s. What a story it was too. AJ has been through so much, between her parents’ relationship and how she was brought up and what has happened in the past with her and Porter, this woman has grown up to be a strong, feisty woman.

I was a little worried a few times throughout the book that her strength might falter and that she would give in to some of the pressures around her. I’m not going to tell you if she did or not but I will say this another classic Claudia Y. Burgoa book. It is full of emotion and these characters that have so many layers. I honestly wasn’t sure if AJ and Mason would make it to the end of this book or if we would have a continuation of their story in book 3 (I don’t read blurbs when I read a favorite author’s book, so I wasn’t sure what book 3 was about.)

Mason is a great hero. For a long time I don’t think AJ gave him the credit he deserved, she didn’t see him as the man he had become. In the first book she teases him a lot about being a gamer (computer) but she has no clue what he actually does. He is the kind of guy I would love to have behind me, always having my back.

I’m afraid if I go into too much more detail that I will be giving spoilers, and I hate to do that. I just want to explain these characters that I have grown to love so much. Beyond AJ, Mason, and her parents, I love her brothers. What one of us who has a brother (or two in my case) doesn’t know what it’s like to have their unmerciless teasing and unyielding loyalty. That relationship between these 3 in this series is very important and I loved the banter back and forth between the 3 of them.

Another 5 star read for me from Claudia. I loved this book and could not wait to get into book 3!

I adored this book. After reading book 1 in the series, I was interested in finding out what Claudia had in store for AJ's love story.

Mason and AJ, or Nine and Ten, as they so adorably call one another, have an interesting friendship. In Unlike Any Other, we see a bit of their relationship. Mason has always been there to pick up the pieces when AJ falls apart. From the very start, it is obvious, except maybe to him, why he goes so far for her.

AJ, having revealed her secrets in Book 1, is now ready to put her life in order and create a new beginning. The complication? Her new feelings for Mason, who is the one constant in her life, outside of her family.

Mason, having been raised a child of divorce with 2 parents who can't get along, lives a transient lifestyle. He has no desire to put down roots or settle in any one place; instead, enjoying wherever his job may take him, for however long. The complication? Now that AJ has settled nearby and is busy making a new life for herself, he can't seem to stay away for long.

What happens when friendship suddenly becomes something more? What if one friend is looking for an epic love story, while the other is afraid of love and everything that goes with it?

Unsurprisingly Complicated is filled with passion, humor, heartache, letting go, friendship, and love. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Nine and Ten and seeing their story unfold. What I like about this series is that even though the books are told from the protagonists' alternating pov, the rest of the Colthurst-Decker clan play major roles in driving the narrative.

After finishing the first book in this series, Unlike Any Other, I had to dive right into Unsurprisingly Complicated. This is Mason’s story but AJ is definitely present (no surprise there). While AJ is pulling herself together and learning to cope with her grief and loss to become a very strong and still loving woman, Mason is struggling. We learn more about his issues with commitment. Can he move past them to find his own love unlike any other? While I understood Mason’s issues, there were times his behavior felt more like unnecessary drama than him trying to move past a trauma. I loved him as a best friend but I didn’t care for him much as a romantic partner. I do think that was the point, though. I can definitely appreciate how he had to learn to let himself love that way but it was frustrating because he had no problems committing to friendships and his loyalty in that area was always without question. While there were times I actually growled, moaned and even cussed at Mason – I don’t hold that against the book. The fact that I felt enough for the characters to get frustrated with them means that the author made me feel and those are the best stories to read. When I am angry at the characters, it is a good thing. It means I am emotionally invested and if a writer can do that, they have won me over for life. I look forward to the rest of the series and to reading more of Claudia’s books.

Unsurprisingly Complicated is probably the most fitting book title for a story that I have come across.

Not only did we get an emotional story about a strong friendship budding into something more, but Claudia Burgoa one ups the previous book by giving us the added bonus of suspense. Who doesn't have that pesky ex that just doesn't understand things are over and hasn't sabotaged his life so badly that he becomes desperate to save his own butt?

This story not only moved me with the familial bond between the triplets and their parents but took me on an emotional ride with the highs and lows between Mason and AJ.

For years they've shared a special bond. Mason has always been AJ's support and the one she turned to when she needed a shoulder and Mason has always made sure he could be there for her, no matter what; which is why a change to that relationship is what sacred his thee most. His parents weren't the best role models when it came to relationships so that's a direction he never intended to take. Love was a scary 4-letter word and one to be avoided.

But life has plans for them and things are put in motion and each character is faced with confronting their fears and insecurities. All factors that give a well rounded and unforgettable read.

Unsurprisingly Complicated
The Unexpected Series #2
Claudia Burgoa

http://amzn.to/1Zjuqee

In your mark, set, get ready to be taken to a wild and emotional ride with AJ and Mason's story.

Being the only girl on the Colthurst-Decker household is not always easy, especially in her unconventional family and AJ must face some harsh times in the hands of the man is supposed to love her but knowing that Mason Bradley her best friend and superhero is there to pick her up she is happy and feeling safe.

Mason Bradley has always been there for AJ but doesn't know how to show her how much he loves her. How can he love someone when his parents showed him the ugly side of love?

Holy Mother of Pearl, AJ and Mason story is so powerful it will make you cry but don't worry is not ugly cry. As we continue reading about the Coldhurst-Decker clan this characters will make you forget they are fictional and have you wanting to be part of their lives.

You don't want to miss this and the rest of this incredible series.I guarantee it you will love it.

A nice second book to this series.

Once I'd completed reading Unlike Any Other, I fell in love with these characters. This book tells the tale of AJ and Mase, friends since childhood. Mason's father is AJ's parents bodyguard. They've had this amazing friendship and Mase has come to AJ's rescue on numerous occasions.

At the conclusion of the last book, AJ has taken some time to get herself together and give herself time to grieve. She's decided to move back to Seattle to be closer to her brothers. Unfortunately, Porter, AJ's manipulative and abusive Ex has decided he needs AJ and keeps turning up around every corner. When Porter ends up in way over his head, AJ's life might also be in jeopardy and Mason isn't just going to standby and watch.

I enjoyed AJ and Mase' story a lot although the Porter part felt a little unbelievable and forced.

The end was a little sickly sweet but satisfying. I am curious about JC's story. Can't wait to read the next in this series.

The continuation of the Decker story in Unsurprisingly Complicated was unsurprising spectacular. I love this family even with all of their dysfunction; this is the family that you crave to be a part of. There is no shortage of love and support in this unusual family. Mason not a part of the family has always hovered in the background. His life is full of quite a few scars, but yet he has made the best of his life. With his amazing career packed full of excitement and intensity he has moments that he needs a home. That comes in the form of his best friend. "There is no Nine without Ten." This romance is sweet an sultry all in one. Readers will love this direction, and fall further in love with the abundance of characters in the Unexpected series. I am anxious to see what is in store for the Decker brothers, because if there is one certainty about this series it is the guarantee that you will in it for the long haul. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer Jax~

I gave this book 4. 5 stars!

I was so excited to read this book because I had read the first one. Each book is a standalone but you meet all the characters in the first book. This book starts right before book one ends.

I what I loved the most is you get to see a strong family bond and that a friendship can survive anything. Each of the characters are different but easy to follow.

AJ has had a abuse past, after coming clean to her family and decided to get help. She finally starts to heal.

Mason is AJ best friend and has been there to pick up the peices. Mason leaves because he is starting to have feelings for AJ other than friendship.

Can these two take a leap or will they go separate ways?

Claudia has written a beautiful story and I can't wait to read JC story.
