Red was a bit of an enigma. She was all woman, and a beautiful one at that. She never really wanted the attention of the men who always seemed to vie for her affection, and she hated to break their hearts. But the fact was, few of them interested her. It wasn't their fault. It was just the way she was brought up. For although she had a softer side, Red was also tough. Texas tough, her father called it. It was easier to keep men at arm's length than it was to let them believe they could capture her heart. Red lost her mother at an early age and was raised by a father who worshipped her. He also equipped her with all the tools she'd need later when times got tough. She could hunt, fish and rope a steer as well as any man. When the worst natural disaster in the history of the world destroyed life as she knew it, her toughness kept her alive. And when her family was murdered, she became something else too. She became determined to find the killers and bring them to justice. Even if she had to administer it herself.
I love this author & all of his books i have read so far. This is an offshoot book of a character from another book of his. I enjoyed it like the others though it did feel a little cheesy n the sentiments predictable & rushed. It was also way 2 short. But I will read the second part. I'm getting tired of short books passing as a whole book and a bunch of short books being sold instead of one full story. So I am not buying another like this again. If it's too short or the "sequel" is, I simply won't buy it. I'm sick of being suckered n 2 this merry go round & paying out 2 much money by the time I read all the pieces of what should have been one book. So that's more than a review about this book. It is true of this book as well however. Just write at least 300-400 pages before u say it's a book. Period. The customers r going 2 simply stop buying into this scam. Time to stop disrespecting your customers. Any author of honor & integrity will stop this greedy mess & show respect to your fans & the people who take time to buy your books and read & appreciate them. These authors will refuse to break down their books into several small pieces in order to simply make more money than they may if they kept each book whole n the first place. Miss Susan
Have read a bunch of his books and enjoy them for the most part. This one as well. Not a pleasant read at times. but will continue with the series. I remember her in the Alone series as well. Also agree that the short books would be too expensive if purchased, as I have many of his books. Reading free on Kindle makes it better. He does have a good imagination!
I thought I would go into this reading a novella about an interesting character in the Alone series. No this is a complete book on its own. I would recommend it to anyone who read about Red in the Alone series, you will not be disappointed. Even though you know some of the story, this gives it a richness and fullness that almost makes it a necessary read. Anxiously awaiting book two in Red's sorry.
This story tells the tale of what life feed Red to make her into the person you get to know in the third book of the Alone series. It's a really good read and I am so looking forward to the next Red book due to be out September 2015.
