Frank Herbert Muir was an English comedy screenwriter and radio and television personality. From 1977 on he also wrote children's books based on his family dog, What-a-Mess. In 1997 he published his autobiography.
Great humor from a bygone British era. Lots of corny puns -- "We've got a pilferer." "How are you going to get her to swallow it?" I've been a fan of Frank Muir and Denis Norden since My Word and My Music were aired on the radio in the U.S. several years ago. It was fun to read some of their other work, in this case scripts from a TV show based on an earlier radio show.
My first experience of The Glums was at the age of six, when I saw a repeat run of the late '70s LWT series (which this book was published to tie in with). I thought then that it was one of the funniest things ever. I've recently been listening to several episodes of Take It From Here on BBC Sounds, and I still think The Glums is one of the funniest things ever. Ergo, this book is brilliant.
