Garden of Gods is a dark fantasy romance that features plenty of my favorite tropes :) Slow burn, enemies to lovers, and forced proximity. The unique magic system in this book had me hooked from the very beginning. Ilene, our FMC, is a historian turned guard against her will after she gets herself into a bit of trouble with the Sultan and his priests for researching things about her world that have been outlawed. Ilene’s magic comes out of her like threads that can interact with the world both detected and undetected which makes her a perfect spy. She is paired up with Hakan, our fire-wielding MMC, as one of his personal guard. The two team up and start down a path that they cannot turn back from.
The world building in this book is gripping and intriguing all the way through. We continue to uncover new secrets about Ilene and Hakan’s world and the gods and monsters that inhabit it up until the last page of the book. There is lots of political intrigue and continuous battling for power and control over the world that keeps this fast paced story moving.
This book really was a roller coaster of emotions. Considering it was on the shorter side compared to some fantasy books, coming in around 355 pages, there is so much crammed in there! Rage, grief, devastation, friendship, romance, action.
After that ending…! I cannot wait! I’m so excited to read the next book and find out where the story goes for Ilene and Hakan.

Honestly wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I got this ARC and oh my gosh was I surprised!
Not only did this have allllll my fave tropes, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn romance, but it had plenty of twists and turns till the very end. And don’t even get me started on that ending?! I need the next book asap to know what’s going to happen!
Enjoyed the characters overall, Ilene and Hakan. Plenty of banter and tension, the world they live in is so interesting, the world building was intriguing without being overwhelming. Also the magic system was unique in its self, I enjoyed that it was different from other fantasy stories.
Really looking forward to the next installment, I need to know what happens!

I found the plot very good, and I did not see the ending coming at all! While it is not very fast paced I was kept engaged throughout, finding it very easy to kepp reading. (Good for if you are in a slump.) The story was unique and I liked how the FMCs magic manifested itself. I was invested in her journey from a historian into a new chapter!

You follow the FMC Ilene, who is a historian in her kingdom, who is meant to record things that happen and research whatever her leadership wants, but when a forbidden research she was doing gets accidentally slipped into the reports, her friend is taken to the priests to swear loyalty or did and she flees only to be caught and forced to take a similar oath, only she will be joining the janissaries - the same guard her mom works for and steered her away from joining. She enters their training directly under the MMC who made her swear a fire oath to him and she joins his unit and slowly befriends the other members, one of which is a childhood friend. The more time she spends with this group, the more she sees is wrong with the kingdom and the evil it is spreading, and the MMC who commands her happens to also be the prince in line for the throne, who might be the only person who could redeem this kingdom. With danged around each corner, and beasts seeming to somehow make their way into the kingdom, the FMC must navigate a complex political hierarchy and train her powers and physical abilities.
I always love the trope of a bookish but powerful FMC being forced to exit her planned life path and enter some sort of training, and this book followed that in the best way, with a bond forcing her to train and use her magical gifts in ways she’s never had to before. I really liked the found family that she formed in this new situation and how much she cares for those she lets in. Of course there was plenty of fun banter and tension with the MMC, with him constantly pushing her to be better but also believing in her when many others including herself don’t. There was so much excitement between the magic training, spying, political maneuvering, beasts who would shrewd them apart and secrets constantly being unraveled that I couldn’t put this book down! I can’t wait for the next book with a lot of reveals and cliffhanger at the end! My rating 4.7/5!

This was a great read! The plot was so intriguing, the characters are all charming, and the romance/spice tension was delightful. I had some issues at the start and some parts I saw coming, but I loved it, I'd read it again and I can't wait for the next one.
So, a brief note on the bad parts. The start was amazing, very hooking, gave me a nice image of how this world works and how hard it can be to live here. But for some reason when Ilene joins the Harb Academy at first I felt it all slowed down so so much. I don't know if was just me, but luckily that feeling didn't last much. Now, I don't know if I'd say this next point is bad, but some parts were very obvious to me. Maybe it was the authors intention because there are A LOT of hints, so if that was the idea, to have the reader being very sure of something, then it's greatly done. I don't think it was a bad thing even if I saw it coming, because it didn't mess with my experience at all, so I guess it's a neutral point.
Now the good! There's so much I don't know where to start. The world build was so interesting, the Gods and their beliefs, the fact they seem to have personalities too, I loved that detail. This is also related to the magic system. I liked how it had some powers that are common to other fantasy books (like elemental magic), but they usually had some twist, some new ability thanks to that power or a use that I rarely see in other books/media (like using wind magic to enhance voice). But the system also had different powers that aren't as common, and that are also rare in the book, I won't talk a lot about them because it's better to discover them.
I loved all the characters so much except the ones the author made sure I hated, which is good, even them had unique voices and differences. I liked the other members of Team Flamebearer a lot, I wish we had more scenes with them. I felt Ilene was good, maybe not a super strong character, but I liked her vulnerability, and she seemed to have a clear personality and goals. Now, Hakan... damn I loved the way he talks. The teasing but also the passion about his dreams and goals for the future. I have to say although the romance was a bit of "insta lust" it made sense why and the book pointed it out all the time, so I don't mind that it was instant. It was well developed, Ilene was aware of the reason it was instant and so strong, which I appreciated, and it was hot and fun to read, but not too much, it didn't steal the highlight from the plot at all.
Finally, the plot. I'm not sure I'm 100% a fan of how the Academy part barely exists, and how fast they move to missions seems a bit forced, but I'd say it's fine. But, besides that, it was so good. I enjoyed the political intrigue so much, the mystery of what are the priest doing, why is it so bad to investigate the Oeruk, etc. I felt all parts made sense and the transition from one to the other was quite logical. The ending was so unexpected, I can't wait to read the next one!

Oh my! I don't know where to start. First off this story was absolutely captivating. The book is so incredibly well-written and a literal masterpiece. Seriously heads off! I really loved the characters and loved to discover the story together with Illen. The characters had great depth to them every character in page would deliver a different and unique energy that would come alive while reading. The mystery and unraveling of the story was absolutely magnificent. Seriously loved this through and through. And the ending really kept me glued to the very last page. I can not wait for book two to be released #SignMeUp
What I disliked about this book:
Can't really say a single thing that I disliked about this book. The only thing that would come close to a dislike was that I absolutely shipped Illen and Devrim and wanted them to end up together. Like seriously their chemistry was through the roof! (Though I did also absolutely love Hakan, just preferred Devrims energy a bit more)
Though with the continuation of the story I do not see a way for these two to ever end up together. (Which I am sad about NGL)
Conclusion:

That ending really threw me for a loop and di not expect it to go that way! 😱 Like I knew something big was gonna happen and secrets be revealed, but this came out of left park! Overall I thought this was a very good book and a very unique magic system. The magic is tied to one of seven gods, but some people are killed for being tied to certain ones due to the Human Wars that occurred between the gods (Light and Dark). The story is based in a military academy after our FMC got caught researching something she shouldn’t have been and “escaped” to join a different branch at the academy. She went from historian recording deaths to a spy investigating the crown and priests all in search of her best friend.
Although at times it felt like the timeline of things wasn’t fully flushed out. I kept losing track of time and how much had passed because it wasn’t very definitive during certain chapters. And that goes along with how sometimes the chapter (to me personally) didn’t flow together sometimes. But aside from that, I loved the book.
One thing I really loved was the use of Turkish culture and language throughout the book (the author is Turkish). It was nice to see those parallels and make the connections. For example, one mountain in the book is called Gol Mountain which translates to Sky Mountain. Even some of the names of the gods translate as well and that gives you insight into the different magics. I am really excited to see how this story will grown and what other secrets will be unveiled. ☺️

This was an amazing dark fantasy. I was already pretty sold on this when I read the synopsis but after reading it I will be checking out every other book by this author. There were so many good scenes and plot points throughout the book that I'm not even sure where to start.
The banter between the characters was hilarious; their interconnected relationships and various secrets were juicy. I LOVED the female friendship portrayed with the FMC as well. Loved it. The chemistry between the MCs was steamy from the get go, that with them also both being a little morally grey made it for a very interesting dynamic between the two.
I don't think I've gotten many West Asian inspired Fantasy recs in the past and I'm really glad that this one came across my feed. It was so refreshing from the Euro-centric vision of what fantasy has to be. Feel free to drop me recs that are comparable!! The setting was well illustrated as well. I will say to brush up on any potential triggers because author Ayla Yergin doesn't share the dark part of this Dark Fantasy gently.
Overall I had the best time reading this book and would probably re-read this in the future.

I quite enjoyed reading this book! It was fun and interesting to learn more about the magic system and the Gods. Unfortunately, I felt like the book was fast-paced and slow at the same time. There were a lot of action scenes and revelations, but everything happened so quickly that I often wished we could have spent more time exploring some of those revelations. I was also a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of the FMC’s training and learn more about her powers. Some parts of the story felt a little too convenient, just to move the plot forward.
The same goes for the romance. It was cute, but I didn’t really feel any chemistry between the characters, which was a shame. I actually found myself more interested in some of the side characters than in the main characters.

The tension!! The banter!! The world building!! The magic system!! This is what I call a good romantasy. This book has a very good balance between the love story and an intriguing plot with unique fantasy elements and setting. Although I struggled a bit to get into the story in the beginning, I ended up loving the writing, the plotwists and especially the characters... they are so well written and characterised.
Definitely recommend reading this book, and I can't wait to read the sequel!!

This was a wonderfully written story with an enemies to friends to lovers. I loved the show burn as the two main characters forged a friendship that turned into more. I loved the world building as well. The description allowed r to feel like I was right there in the midst of everything. I loved the magic system and the overall story. It was so intriguing and kept me immersed from becoming to end

What drew me in here was the world, Asian inspired, military Academy, but what intrigued me was when someone called this a slump buster.
They did not lie.
This gives the feels of 4th wing because it is a plot driven, fast-paced, story of an unwilling cadet and her superior at the academy who has royal blood. However, the story is so original and flows so well.
It's gripping from the first chapter.
You are constantly on the move with the characters who waste no time dragging us into their world. You are discovering new facets with each turn of the page.

First, I want to thank Iris Influencer Society and Ayla Yergin for the gifted eARC of Garden Of Gods to read and provide my honest, spoiler free review.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Thoughts:
I was really intrigued with the concept of this book. Having a historian being hunted for her curiosity and willingness to try and find answers to defeating the monsters of the outside world definitely snagged my interest from the very beginning. Any book that has this theme will always gain my attention especially because curiosity is a natural part of being human, so knowing that your own curiosity could be seen as a threat to others just brings a complete power struggle to the world.
I felt like the world building was good. The different gods and the magic system were explained pretty well enough that I was able to follow along and become more interested in them. The academy setting was fun and gave Ilene an opportunity to learn more. Our FMC, Ilene, felt pretty vulnerable and relatable and I loved that she still fought for what she wanted. She continued to fight for answers and I love that no matter what happened she didn’t stop fighting.
The push and pull between Ilene and Hakan was great! Definitely brought in the enemies to lovers trope that I love so dearly. They were complete opposites and clashed a lot but it made that romance that much sweeter between them in the end. There is something about being forced to be close to your enemy that just always leads up to the must incredible tension and passion between the two main leads and this book was no exception.
Overall, everything was paced pretty well for me and I enjoyed my time here in the Garden Of Gods world. It was dark, filled with secrets and banter that kept me coming back for more. So happy I had a chance to read this one!

Garden of Gods was so incredibly good. You will get caught up in the world immediately. Ayla Yergin has created a rare fantasy world that feels ancient, lived-in, and dangerous. You slowly start to gain an understanding of the Gods that rule this world and their backstory which informas the current time and events. But deciphering which version of the stories of the gods is true is part of the fun of reading this book. You never know who to trust. Every revelation about the gods, their rivalries, and the myths that shaped the present-day world feels precarious like that floor is going to fall out from under you. Rather than serving as background lore, the divine history actively informs the plot, the politics, and the characters' choices, making the world feel incredibly rich and immersive.
One of my favorite aspects was the academic setting. The blend of scholarship, research, andtraining gave me Fourth Wing vibes and it gave the story a unique atmosphere that felt both cozy and safe, but deadly too. Watching the characters uncover forgotten truths and navigate centuries of religious and historical mysteries made every chapter compelling. And the violence!
The violence in this book is striking. The contrast between the scholarly setting and the brutal realities lurking beneath the surface creates an atmosphere of constant unease. There were several moments that genuinely shocked me, reminding me that this world is as ruthless as it is fascinating.
But that romance. If you're a fan of slow-burn relationships, prepare to suffer in the best possible way. The chemistry builds gradually through shared experiences, trust, and lingering tension, making every interaction feel significant. Yergin takes her time developing the relationship, allowing the emotional connection to feel earned rather than rushed. The spicy pay off is top tier writing and well worth the wait.

I swear this book had me trapped from the first page! If you are fans of the dynamics of Fourth Wing but you want something much darker, lethal and with an almost Attack on Titan vibe, please write down Ayla Yergin’s Garden of Gods in your TBR.
The story puts us in the life of Ilene, a historian who lives on a walled continent because it is full of horrible monsters outside. The big problem is that inside they are not very safe either: the Sultanate controls everything and asking too many questions is basically a death sentence. Our protagonist is declared a traitor and her only way out is to join a secret rebellion and enter the Harb Academy. And believe me, this academy is not for making friends; you don’t graduate here, you literally just try to survive.
But let’s talk about what we all care about: romance. Captain Hakan is everything we are looking for if we love the morally gray protagonists! He is super ruthless, lethal and does anything for his cause without asking for forgiveness. The dynamic he has with Ilene is an incredibly well-built enemies to lovers. They go from total distrust to having a tension that can be cut with a knife because of the forced proximity. In addition, the spicy scenes arrive at the perfect time and feel super won.
The rhythm of the book doesn’t give you a break. Between the tests to survive the academy, the espionage and the plot twists that you don’t see coming, I spent it suffering and marking pages like crazy.
I give it 4/5 stars because it left me with my mouth open and I need more people to read it so we can comment on it. Super recommended if you like secret societies, dark fantasy and forbidden romances.

ilene, our fmc, is a historian charged with documenting a very specific version of history until her forbidden research accidentally gets sent out and her friend gets taken in her place. so naturally she must join the academy and the janissaries, swearing an oath to the insufferable captain, hakan. it is really rewarding to see ilene come into her own, especially her own parentage. the bond she makes with the other janissaries, especially hakan, allows her to use her magical abilities differently and feel supported. there’s political intrigue, dark secrets, and capable characters.
i love the relationship between hakan and ilene, especially with the spying and political maneuvering they are having to do. the world building was also incredible, from the magic to the creatures to the gods.
i feel the academy part was the weakest point, but the mysteries surrounding these characters keeps you hooked. it is a slow build, the payoff though makes it worth it. and that ending…i am very excited for future books written by this author <3

Garden of Gods is a West Asian dark romantasy with high stakes, a war college, forbidden history, dangerous secrets, and so much more. And boy, did I love these elements put together in this book!.
I bet you that I devoured this book in less than 3 hours because of how hard I was hooked. I know some parts will be predictable for some, but I think those moments made it even better because while you may think one thing, it could be something else entirely. The major spot for me was that ending with this! I still can’t get over it. Like please put me out of my misery. I need to know 😫🥺

I received this e-ARC from Hawthorn & Aster, and it is the first book I’ve read by Ayla Yergin.
It took a little while for me to really get into it.
There were quite a few creatures and gods—new to me—that I needed to familiarize myself with; a glossary to refer back to would have been helpful.
Once I had everything sorted out, however, the book really took off.
I like the female protagonist. She longs to belong somewhere and to find answers about her family's past.
She is fiercely loyal to her friends, both old and new.
And finally—wow, what a cliffhanger the book ended on.
I look forward to reading the second part and following the continuation of Ilene and Hakan’s journey and their future destiny.

Garden of Gods completely wrecked me in the best slow-burn way.
Ayla Yergin gives us enemies to lovers at the very center of the story — a captain and his recruit who should not work, but absolutely do. The setting is a magic-wielding military academy, and the world is West Asian-inspired and deeply rooted in Islamic mythology, which made the political intrigue feel fresh and grounded.
What I loved most was the pacing of the bond. It's not insta-anything. It's tension that builds through training, duty, and choices, until you realize these two people have become each other's anchor. He's control and protocol; she's fire learning to aim. Watching those walls crack was everything.
It's intense, romantic, and has real stakes beyond the romance. I was obsessed from page one and I'm already thinking about a reread.

Just wow! This book was awesome! Love it so much!😻😻 Except the fact that the first 5 to 7 chapters would definitely benefits from a glossary (more than a bit sadly) I was totally pulled into the intrigues and schemes in this crazy fantastical world!! Loved our MC and the plot is so good! The tension between our MC and the ML was sooo hawwt! The ending blew me up and I sure hope there's a book 2 because this CANNOT end like that or I'll call the police for an attempt at a mean eternal cliffhanger forbidden by the commission of reader's laws!! Pretty please tell me the next book is soon, I can't wait now!

Holy moly what a rollercoaster! That ending just had me absolutely shocked that I went back a few pages to make sure I read what I read!! I have to admit that it was a little slow in the beginning, there's a lot of information to take in, different characters and the world is being built. However I read the 2nd half of the book in basically 1 sitting. It picked up... the tension was building, the slow burn was burning and the enemies to lovers was just delicious! There are SO many things that happen, so many twists, turns and honestly I'm going to need book 2 real soon 🤣

Wow! I devoured this in one sitting!
Such a unique story. An original magic system, gods, war, corrupt governments and a dark religion.
I loved the fast pace of this book, the plot was extremely well thought out and I honestly was not ready for any of the reveals.
The FMC was perfect. I loved her story of trying to find her own way, desperation to save her loved ones and reluctantly joining her new found family on a dangerous path.
The ending had me shocked and honestly I need to do another read because I am still reeling from what happened!
Highly recommend!

I loved Ilene so much! She stayed true to herself despite being forced into an entirely new position, she just became stronger and more confident. The world building in this book was awesome! There were so many details that it felt like a movie was playing out while I read it. Ilene was a historian that became forced into fighting and hated it. She definitely only wanted to ever be on outside to document. She ends up unraveling so many lies from the past that I was as shocked as she was! I kept wanting to learn more about the past with her to figure out what everyone was after. Her and Hakan were also quite the duo. They go from hating each other to protecting each other and it’s adorable. I’m definitely excited for what happens next!

Started off a little slow but once it picked up, I did not want to put it down! It reminded me a little of Forth Wing with the war college, but the focus of the college was magic instead dragons. Loved the magic system, very unique! Lots of unexpected plot twists towards the end that I definitely did not see coming. Really looking forward to the next one!
