Centuries after the Fall, the world is a different place than it used to be...
When she suddenly becomes a Stray, Kara is forced to flee the relative safety of GateWide in order to avoid becoming a slave to the cruel Sovereign. Hunted deep into the wilds by the Sovereign's Enforcers, Kara must find a way to survive, relying only on her own scarce knowledge of the decimated wilderness outside the settlement's walls.
Surrounded by mutated creatures in an unfamiliar environment, Kara soon realizes that many of the things that she thought she knew about the wilderness had been based on lies that had been taught to all the people of GateWide.
Why have the people of the settlement been misled and how will she find the truth with only one small clue to guide her?
This is a short story about a time after technology and it almost sounded like the world wiped out by nuclear explosions. A young lady is living in what she believes is the last city on earth. It is surrounded by a tall wall and there are just two gates in or out (only hunters go out, there are wild beasts that were affected by the fall out and will kill you if you leave). The Sovereign, the leader of the town is an evil man and pretty much every one in his town is his slave. Our young ladies mother dies and she is now an orphan (her father, a hunter, disappeared years before). If you are left alone the enforcers will come and take you to be the lowest slave in the manor - her only hope is to flee the town and go into the wilds!
Our girl is smart and the story is how she survives those first few days. I really enjoyed it and it is clean. And there is a Christian bent to the story which I appreciate.
“After the Fall”, first in 'The Narrow Gate' series, follows the story of Kara who, after the death of her mother, has no option but to flee the city of GateWide and navigate the wilderness in search for safety. It's set some long time after The Fall (a disaster which destroyed mostly of Earth's population and created many mutations. It's quite short but does a good job in setting the scene for what is to come. I'll be reading on. 3 Stars.
If the book is anything like the preview, it will be well worth reading. Good writing. The story captures the attention leaving the reader wanting more.
"After the Fall" is a dystopian YA read. I enjoyed it. Nothing life changing, just a good story of survival, hardship, and faith. No swearing or sexual content. There is some implied violence. I can recommend to teens and up. I give it four stars. I liked it.
Definitely a different kind of read. It gets you set up for the next book, because you have all these questions. It's interesting and a bit graphic. Looking forward to reading the next book.
