This was something completely different.

Marisol Vega works the night shift beneath Yankee Stadium. She's curious, resourceful, and somehow always manages to find her way through every problem. Her determination catches the attention of Nico Vale, the immortal guardian responsible for keeping the evil lurking below at bay.

Marisol can't shake the feeling that someone is watching her, and eventually Nico reveals himself, as he is no longer able to resist his pull toward her. Marisol realizes she is helplessly drawn to him, too.

Although Nico longs to be with Marisol, he never pushes her. He understands what she is to him—knows that she possesses the potential to strengthen the very barriers he protects and help maintain the balance—but he also knows the cost. He wants her to fully understand what choosing him would mean, not only for his future but for hers as well. I couldn't help but admire his strength, restraint, and unwavering resolve. No matter how difficult it became, he always honored the promises he made to her.

Marisol, on the other hand, is very stubborn. She constantly tests Nico's patience and self-control. Deep down, she already knows how their story is likely to end, but she's determined to make the choice on her own terms.

Their chemistry is undeniable from the very beginning, making every interaction between them compelling.

I'm definitely curious to see how their relationship develops and how they'll work together to maintain the balance while protecting the unsuspecting people above.

The premise of this story is what got me excited, it's totally up my alley: romance with vampires, but set in the real world...love it!

While I enjoyed it, there were also a few things that made it harder for me to enjoy it more than I did: it's written in a highly elevated language, giving it a tone that I wasn't expecting, and is a little off-putting with the entirety of the story (if the elevated language had been just from the vampire characters, it would have been more understandable, but it was everyone...including the third person writing); the language also made it difficult to fully understand the climax of the story; however, I was absolutely in love with the witty banter between the FMC and the MMC. It was really refreshing.

Overall, I'd compare this book with an experience at an absurdly high priced restaurant: the vibes, and decor are enticing; the food sounds exciting but is mostly garnish; and while you didn't hate your dining experience, you left unsatisfied and still hungry.

(I received a complementary ARC of this book.)

Absolutely loved this take on a vampire romance! It was a pretty quick read because once I started, I couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait for book 2!
