Blood of a Lion was my first read by Dai’Ja S. Rose, and overall, I really enjoyed it!

The beginning was a little slower for me because there is quite a bit of world-building and several characters, clans, relationships, and histories to learn. At times, I did find myself having to really pay attention to keep everyone and everything straight. Once I settled into the world of Rhagasa, though, the story really started to pull me in.

This book has so many of the things I love: a strong FMC who is a true fighter and refuses to back down, complicated loyalties, romance, revenge, secrets, betrayal, and characters who are constantly forced to question where their allegiance truly lies.

I especially enjoyed the way the different clans and character storylines began weaving together as more secrets were revealed. There is a lot happening beneath the surface, and by the end I was definitely invested in seeing where everything goes next.

Overall, this was a great introduction to both the world and this author for me. If you enjoy fantasy with strong female characters, clan politics, complicated relationships, betrayal, revenge, and plenty of secrets, this is definitely one to check out.

Received this as an ARC, this is my honest review.

Multiple POVs and switching back and forth makes it hard to keep track.
Once I figured out who the main characters were, and those POVs stayed consistent, it helped smooth out the story.

As a story in the new adult genre, the clan members are very young, and at first glance they come off as immature, hot-headed and quick to react/judge. I may have shifted this thinking in the last 30% of the story.

The pacing in the last 30% felt better, starting bringing all of the pieces together

The reveal at the end, chefs kiss.

The overall message of this story for me, was the hope that remains for peace. For a world where people can co-exist in harmony. But, before we can get there, turmoil, lies, harm, and hate unfortunately take place.

Favorite quotes:
"Surrendering to love sometimes is the ultimate strength."

"We didn't have to be like the people of ancient Rhagasa. We could be better. We will be."

This was my first book and read by Dai'Ja S. Rose, overall I really like it.

This is a really good dark fantasy. The start of the book was a bit slow with all the world building, back story, having multiple POVs but once I got use to everything I couldn't and didn't want to put it down. I just had to keep reading to know what happened. This has revenge, twists that I couldn't see coming, betrayals, romance and just so much more in it. I really liked how all the connections, twists, characters and just everything came together near the end, definitely worth it to check it out and give it a try.

This was a good dark fantasy standalone. The beginning was slower for me because of the amount of world building and having multiple POVs and trying to remember who everyone is. Once I got used to the POVs and recognized who everyone was, I could not put this book down. I had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. This has action, romance, revenge, twists, betrayals, vengeance and so much more.

Unfortunately I just couldn't keep up with all the characters. There are multiple people and we are getting each ones part of the story from thier own POV. While I usually love multiple POV this was a struggle. The story is a little slow moving as well so it didnt hold my attention or keep me wanting more. If you really like world building, no romance, and multi POV I think you will like this, just not for me.

This book keeps you on edge! Intense battles, clans at war for power! A FMC who is fighting for her place! Revenge; add in morally gray characters and we’ve got this masterpiece!
