The second book in this dark academia romance series picks up where The Dean's List ends the story continues with the aftermath of what happened with Charlie and Axel.
I did a quick re read of The Dean's List, of course I remebered the ending! 😮‍💨 but I just wanted a catch up on the characters etc, I'm so glad I did as this book has sooo many twists and turns it gave me whiplash!,
Convocation approaches, it is in 18 days, four powerful families prepare to fight for control of the Honor Society. The winner has to have the Ledger and The Proctor. They decide if the current Chancellor remains or is replaced.
The Proctor, Axel has the ledger and is the core of the Society, always hiding his identity behind his mask only a couple of people know who he is. He is ruthless, a protector and nobody can defy him! He must stop a war raging and protect Charlie, the love of his life. She is unaware of who the Proctor is, but has moments where she is suspicious. She is attracted to him but feels conflicted as she loves Axel.

HIs closet friends are protected, kept safe by him. The four horsemen are slowly beimg replaced and Charlie is eager to find The Proctor, tryimg to avoid falling umder his spell! Why is she on the Dean's List? Nothing makes sense to her, but eager to find out she is given clues along the way by a 'secret' person.

This book is a PAGE TURNING mindf***! Full of intrigue, mystery and edge of your seat moments. I loved it! Does end on a cliffhanger but grab yourself a comfy chair as you won't want to put this beuty down once you start! All the feels for this one 4.5*

Thanks to Wildfire Marketing Solutions and the Author for the ARC copy, all thoights are my own.

There are those deep, dark stories that take a while to get started, then there's this one that starts off with a bang, pulls you in, and holds you until the very last twisted secret was revealed.

Angst, curves, corners, secrets, action - this has it all! There were moments that had me re-reading because I did have questions, and there were several characters from societies/ties/families that I mixed up, but all-in-all, this was a great story that absolutely managed to engage my attention all the way through. You need to one-click this one and join in.

On to the next one!

4.25stars-THE HONOR SOCIETY is the second instalment in Rachel Van Dyken’s contemporary, new adult, THE DEAN’S LIST dark, academia romance series focusing on a secret organization known as The Honor Society. This is Axel aka the Proctor, and Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Sterling’s story line. THE HONOR SOCIETY can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as there is an ongoing premise throughout. For fans of Rachel Van Dyken, there is a slight cross over with the author’s Rise of the De Langes, and the Eagle Elite worlds.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Axel and Charlie) THE HONOR SOCIETY follows in the days before The Convocation, an event wherein a new member of ‘The Four Horsemen’ aka as the four ruling families of The Honor Society, takes the place of the old, either by murder, attrition or expulsion but all debts must be paid in full , whether in blood or bartered. As the Convocation date nears, The Proctor must keep order and balance but struggles to balance his own life and the woman with whom he has fallen in love. The Dean’s List and The Ledger keep the secrets of The Society, debts and assets, and betrayals of the past, a list that directs The Proctor down a path of no return.

The world building ,is once again, complex and multi-layered, gritty and immersive as secrets, lies and betrayal are avenged at the hands of The Proctor. A rigid set of rules and practices, a defined and restrictive hierarchy, and a power dynamic that keeps control of those within the four houses. To expose the families and houses can mean death but often friendships co-exist alongside the dark and dangerous.

The relationship between Axel and Charlie is tempestuous at best in the face of Charlie’s attempted murder of our story line ‘hero’ but Charlie’s orders came at a cost, threats against the man with whom she had fallen in love. Axel is no longer able to separate between himself and The Proctor, a position within the hierarchy that answers to no one. As The Proctor begins a slow seduction of our story line heroine, Axel finds himself pushed to the back, losing the woman that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are seductive and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, questionable and determined secondary and supporting characters many of whom we met in the previous instalment. All members of the Four Families will turnover a new Horseman, someone who must take their place at the top of the chain.

THE HONOR SOCIETY is a thought provoking story of secrets and lies, checks and balances, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, friendships and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic and edgy; the romance is spicy and controversial; the characters are eclectic, broody, dangerous and desperate.

The Honor Society is the second book in the Deans List series and continues where the first book left off, with Charlie and Axel at odds over the mysterious Deans List.

Charlie never knew that members of her family are the things that go bump in the night. She found out who her biological father was and has hated him. Growing up she learned how to shoot and became an expert marksman. Did she want for anything growing up? Physically no. Emotionally and mentally yes. Little does she know who she is and who her family really is.

Axel's history is muddied. He is related to Jude by marriage. They are cousins and play off of each other. Both have responsibilities, but enjoy letting go on occasion. Little does anyone know what Axel has going on behind the scenes. He cannot trust anyone and always has to watch his back. He does not have the protection afforded his cousin because of his name. He is a working guy, or so it appears.

The Honor Society picks up from where The Deans List left off. Axel is hiding secrets no one can know, but he is forced to trust one person with one of them. Charlie has been forced to do the one thing she absolutely does not want to do in order to keep him safe. But she has no idea the secrets or why she has been selected to do the dirty work.

Charlie has been targeted by an unknown number to obtain the Deans List at all costs. What will happen if she fails? That remains to be seen. She is given instructions and is expected to follow them. But when the ultimate order comes through, she disobeys intentionally. What will this cost her?

Axel has to make the ultimate decision. He has been playing with fire when it comes to Charlie, but he needs his focus. And he needs to protect her. She has no idea the value she holds in her hands, but he does. He knows a lot more than he lets on.

But Charlie is a wildcard. Will she ultimately betray Axel? Will this be the end of the Honor Society as it is structured today? Will old sins and debts cause heartbreak? Or will it lead to a clean slate and new leadership? Will Charlie reconcile her feelings for Axel knowing the secrets he has been keeping? Or will their love story go up in fire?

Wow, this Honor Society is complicated. And boy does it have secrets. There are four houses to the society: War, Conquest, Famine and Death. Add in the Proctor and the Chancellor, who govern the Society. It is a complicated web full of lies, half truths, deceit and murder.

This is true mafia. An eye for an eye and a life for a life. This may not be Eagle Elite, but it is definitely blood in no out. God bless Rachel Van Dyken for keeping me on my toes and the edge of my seat throughout this book.

But this would not be a true Rachel Van Dyken book if it does not have gasps of shock, nail biting and edge of seat anticipation. And that ending. Wow. Just WOW!!!

I received a gifted ARC of this novella via the author and am voluntarily posting this review. THE HONOR SOCIETY is Book 2 in THE DEAN’S LIST series by Rachel Van Dyken. Charlie’s shot Axel, but she thinks he doesn’t remember. As the Convocation approaches, Axel must find out who is hunting him, protect Charlie, and prevent a war while hiding his identity as the Proctor. This is a spicy, open book, first person, dual POV, contemporary dark romance with tropes including enemies to lovers, forced proximity (hospital/protective custody,) she shot him, he falls first, bodyguard, secret society, touch her and die, who hurt you, redemption, only one bed, secret identity/dual identities, and slow burn. This was an interesting follow-up from THE DEAN’S LIST where the reader learns why Charlie shot Axel, who she loves, and a lot about Axel’s life that was hidden as well as what The Honor Society truly is. Axel was living a double life and Charlie’s strings had been pulled by an anonymous person. Axel was trying to keep all the balls in the air and protect those that he loved, and I loved his character for this. Charlie was confused and conflicted, but was willing to do whatever she could to keep Axel safe, and I really liked that about her. Their relationship is muddy for a while but when a greater understanding is reached, it is impossible not to see how well matched they were. This book is definitely dark, violent, and mafia-ish, so check for triggers if they could be a concern. I enjoyed it and the huge cliffhanger we were left with at the end will definitely have me back for Book 3. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy dark humor mafia romance and books about secret societies. If you are a kindleunlimited reader, go and grab this one now, because it will be leaving the program some time today.

The Honor Society is the second book in The Deans List series and it does start exactly where we left off in The Deans List, so it is important to have read that book first.

The Convocation is approaching, which is where four very powerful families will work to control The Honor Society. There are 18 days before it begins and in order to win, the family must have The Proctor and the ledger and they also decide if the chancellor stays or goes.

With Axel being The Proctor, it is a well guarded secret that only a few are aware of. He also has the ledger. He works hard to conceal his identity. He does what he has to do to protect the people he cares about, especially Charlie. It puts Charlie in a very interesting position because she doesn't know Axel is The Proctor and there is something about him that draws her to him, but she is obviously in love with Axel.

As The Proctor works to keep people safe, others are being replaced in their roles. Charlie desperately wants to figure out who The Proctor is all while trying to fight the mounting pull and feelings she has. Will she be able to figure out why she is on The Deans List? And who is feeding her information?

This one absolutely kept me on the edge of my seat throughout! It is full of all of the things you come to expect from an RVD book and that just makes you want to keep reading. This one does end on a cliffhanger, so the next one can't come soon enough!

POV: Dual
Charlie & Axel

If you love Rachel's OG mafia, then this series will be your up your street. So many secrets, betrayal, lies, deceit, twists, turns, (plus a little surprise for the mafia lovers 😉).
This is a secret society with Mafia ties, or vise versa, Mafia with Secret Society ties. Anyway...

There's different families: War, Conquest, Famine and Death.
With an assassin in a mask known as The Proctor, a Chancellor you don't want to upset, all whilst doing normal college things.

This is book 2, must read in order. Continues from where book 1 ended.

Time is running out....

For years, Axel, has been living a double life. One, where he's playfully, happy-go-lucky, the other, is much darker, in the shadows.
He's been protecting Charlie and himself for years. As Charlie doesn’t know the whole truth of her lineage. But he's falling for her. He shouldn't. She shot him! So he says he doesn't remember who shot him.

She was doing what she thought was right at the time.
She thought she was protecting him from The Proctor, and herself.
Someone's been telling her half truths.
Her name is on The Dean's List. Why?
She loves Axel, and it stings that he can't remember much of her, since the incident. And it's taking all his strength to do this to her. Wondering what her next move is going to be.
She sees a different side to him through this.
Can they keep hurting each other?
How many secrets will come to light?
Will this make or break them?

The Honor Society literally pick up where The Dean List ended. This story had it all, so much secrets, lies, slow burn and everything in a secret society you love. This will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Axel and Charlie story exceeded my expectations so much. I truly enjoyed this so much the game Axel was playing I loved it. He was playing everything to make sure the ones he cared for were all protected. Even with the mask on you see the struggle he had in certain parts. But you’ll love him even more. Charlie I just adored her. She herself only does things to protect the one person she cares for. And doing everything in her power to keep him safe. Even befriending the enemy. When all falls into place all the pieces eventually everything will make senses. One way or another in the end all will be clear.

Axel and Charlie relationship as complex as it. The chemistry between them is absolutely unbelievable, you see it from the start. In the end you’ll be rooting hard for them. This story was by far one of my favorites. I’m loving this world Rachel has created and I can’t wait to see what will be happening next.

This latest installment continues with Axel and Charlie's story, they're not done. The story starts off with a bang as Axel survives after being betrayed; from that moment on, nonstop intrigue and tension run high, with revelations around every corner.

Axel, aka Proctor, is caught between a rock and a hard place for several reasons, and he has a job to do: protect his friends and loved ones and make sureThe chemistry between Charlie and Axel is smoldering; their love is tested, as well as their loyalty.

The characters were awesome; they surprise you at every turn. Charlie was a surprise in this plot; it seemed she was done being played and was taking the reins back.

Overall, it's a high-octane read that keeps you on the edge of your seat as secrets come to light and betrayals surface. The plot keeps you guessing, with characters trying to survive. The plot was like one giant chessboard. We will say we were hoping that all of Axel's moves and countermoves would be successful, as not only were lives on the line, but also love and happiness.

The cliffhanger was the mother of all bombs! This enjoyable, high-intensity plot about secret societies is intricate, and it can change the lives of its characters at any moment.

This crafty storyteller takes us right into the action, with this romance picking right up where The Dean's List ended. Axel and Charlie have a lot more between them than romance, and things are about to get ridiculously complicated.

This mafia-adjacent romance gives us a secret society that polices its own members who are so far above average that standard laws don’t apply to them. A Ledger records offenders, offenses, judgements to be meted out, and the date they come due. The Proctor keeps the Ledger and carries out judgements. A Chancellor heads a committee of Four Horsemen from four prominent families all vying for power.

As ever, the world is changing, and it's time for the next generation to oversee The Honor Society, but old blood members cling to their position, causing coercion, manipulation, and good, old-fashioned obstacle elimination. Make sure your seat belt is fastened securely and get a good grip because this is one wild, thrilling ride you won’t want to miss!

Rachel Van Dyken does it again! From the first chapter, The Honor Society pulled me in, and I stayed up far too late because I had to know what happened next. Her writing has that addictive mix of humor, heart, and tension that makes her books so hard to set down.
The characters feel real, flawed, and impossible not to root for. Charlie and Axel’s story stole my heart, and the chemistry and banter had me grinning like an idiot one minute and clutching my chest the next. The emotional moments hit hard, and the hot ones are even better.
What I love most about Rachel is that she never lets the story go flat. The pacing is perfection! By the end I was completely invested, a little heartbroken it was over, and already wanting to reread my favorite parts.
If you're a fan of Rachel’s mafia books, pick this up. Highly recommend, five stars!

The Honor Society pulled me in right from the beginning and never really let up. I loved that it jumped straight into the action and kept the pace moving without a lot of unnecessary slowing down. There was always something happening, and I was completely invested in finding out what was really going on with Charlie, Axel, the Proctor, and all the secrets surrounding the Honor Society.

I will admit that there were a few times when I got a little confused about who was who, especially with all the different families, characters, and secrets being thrown at us. But honestly, that was a minor issue because I was having way too much fun with the story to let it bother me for long.

Fast-paced, twisty, full of secrets and danger, and with just enough romance to keep things interesting. Definitely a 4.5-star read for me, and I’m looking forward to reading the Rhodes story next!

Well that was definitely a roller coaster ride that I’d gladly get on again! I couldn’t wait for this book since book 1,The Dean’s List, ended on a huge cliffhanger that has had a hold on my heart and mind for months! I have to say I absolutely loved Jude but I think Axel has my heart. We pick up from The Dean’s List and the action, games, secrets, twists instantly start. Quite a few times my heart was racing and my stomach was in my throat as I watched the game Axel and Charlie play and hang on to the slow burn waiting to see if it combusts into disaster or blow up into an unstoppable flame! I loved every minute of it..although I was screaming at Charlie to trust her instincts and put the pieces together already! The ending was chefs kiss and the last revelation I didn’t see coming but definitely can’t wait to see where it leads us!

The Honor Society picks up where we were left with that cliffhanger in book one.
The story is fast paced, action packed, filled with twists and turns, lies and secrets.
I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!
The chemistry between Axel and Charlie is absolutely electrifying without a doubt.
Their relationship is complex and intense. Just like the characters. Intriguing and interesting.
The story had me consumed and there were lots of times nervous and on the edge of my seat.
Secret society, mafia, mystery and spice combined perfectly with amazing characters Ms. Van Dyken hit it out of the ballpark with this book!
But she did leave us off with a stunning cliffhanger so I’m going to be impatiently waiting for next book, The Chancellor’s Wife.

The Honor Society picks up right where The Dean’s List left off, and what a ride! Rachel Van Dyken has once again delivered a story full of secrets, lies, twists and turns that kept me hooked from beginning to end.

Axel and Charlie were everything. Their chemistry is incredible, and I loved seeing beneath Axel’s mask and discovering the lengths he would go to protect the people he cares about. Charlie is just as determined, and together they had me completely invested in their story. The secrets surrounding the Honor Society kept me guessing, and I loved watching all the pieces slowly come together.

Just when you think you have everything figured out, another twist comes along. I loved the way the characters and their stories intertwined, with little details and connections that made everything come together.

“I thought I’d finally found my forever. Until she gave me my end.”

Judgement. Betrayal. Death. Salvation.

“You can be a bad person and still fight for the right thing.”

After the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers that RVD put us through….we have a bit of redemption….until The Chancellor’s Wife. This continuation of the Dean’s List was wellllll worth the wait. So many unexpected twist, emotions, humor, banter…chemistry… and selflessness.

“I don’t share. I don’t give up. I don’t mark and abandon. I have a very distinct need to keep what’s mine, mine. It has nothing to do with possessing you, but everything to do with dedicating myself to you and expecting you to do the same with me.”

First let me start by saying you should start by reading The Dean's List. I say that because I did not read it before hand, I was already invested by the time I realized there was a book one. That being said I still loved it and figured out enough to really enjoy the danger, the action, the suspense, all of the lies and secrets. The interactions between the characters are sharp and pointed like many of the characters and at other times snarky and playful. Under all the intrigue however is still the hurt and the feelings that were growing before Charlie held the gun, before Axel ended up in a hospital bed, nineteen days until the convocation.

This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Axel and Charlie’s story.
This story begins with Axel surviving being shot, and Charlie comes to see him riddled with guilt, but does he remember she shot him or not?
This is a well written action packed, slow burn, easy to read story, with family, friendships, emotions, tension, secrets, betrayal, challenges, deceit, redemption, forced proximity, secret society, revelations, touch her and die, trust, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Axel and Charlie story exceeded my expectations so much. I really enjoyed the game Axel was playing Charlie it had all the vibes of the Elite men and the games they used to play with there woman.

The chemistry between Axel and Charlie was HOT, it was and is absolutely unbelievable, you just can tell right from the very start. This story was amongst one of my favorites, scary to say it’s almost with the Elite series!

What a rollercoaster ride this book was! The Honor Soceity was a tangled web of deceit, treachery, secrets, betrayal and much more. It snatched my attention from page one and held it captive to the very end. It continues from where the last book left of and in the same vein of its predecessor it's packed with twists and turns some that I definitely saw coming but I enjoyed it all the same. I loved it and so can't wait for the next book in the series. I definitely recommend it.

This book was amazing and I could not put it down.
It starts out with Axel being in the hospital after getting shot. Charlie comes to see him, and she feels bad for being the one that shot him. But does Axel remember she shot him or not. Their relationship is definitely tested, will it last? This book had me guessing until the end. Had several little surprises along the way and a lot of questions were answered. Lots of action, romance, betrayal, love, and redemption. What more could you ask for. A great read I highly recommend!!

Okay, this book picks up right after that cliffhanger in the first book of this series. The academia vibes is on point for this author. She has delivered some morally grey men in past books and this one isn’t any different. The web she has spun just keeps getting more intricate which had me devouring all the words. You can feel the chemistry between the main characters. The twists and turns amped up all the intrigue and then you throw in another cliffy. Omg… I. Need. Book. Three.

The Honor Society delivered all the secrets, danger, twists, and delicious tension I was hoping for. Charlie and Axel had me hooked, and those little EE Easter eggs? Loved them🖤

I am VERY much looking forward to The Chancellor’s Wife because, excuse me, ma’am… WHAT KIND OF ENDING WAS THAT?! I need answers. Immediately. 😳

The story of Axel and Charlie continues. It is a dark story, but does heve a few lighter monents.
There are twists and turns everywhere you look. Just when you think that you have figured it out, another surprise.
The story will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat, because there is a cliffhanger at the end.

Rachel Van Dyken has done it again! If you love secret societies, high-stakes mind games, intense romance, and plot twists that keep you guessing until the final page, The Honor Society is an absolute must-read.
.
The story hits the ground running right in the hospital: Axel is lying in a bed after being shot by Charlie—the girl he’s utterly obsessed with. Charlie believes she shot him to protect him from the dangerous Honor Society, but what she doesn't realize is that Axel isn't just an innocent victim. He is secretly The Proctor—the most feared, lethal figure in the entire organization. Armed with "the Ledger"—a terrifying collection of the darkest secrets of the world's most powerful people—Axel is playing a dangerous double game. His ultimate goal? Outsmart his enemies, dismantle the corrupt old guard by Convocation Day, and protect Charlie at all costs.
.
Seeing Axel balance his two sides is electrifying. To Charlie, Axel is the sweet, funny, soft-hearted guy she falls for, while The Proctor is a ruthless, masked powerhouse who rules through fear. Watching Charlie fall for both sides of the same man without realizing it adds such an incredible layer of tension!
.
Axel’s love for Charlie drives the entire story, but Charlie is no damsel in distress. Just when you think you know where the game is headed, she completely flips the board at the very end, proving she is more than capable of standing right beside The Proctor.
.
Rachel Van Dyken masterfully places every piece on the chessboard. The pacing is relentless, the atmosphere is deliciously dark, and the secrets unfurl so brilliantly that you’ll be reading with bated breath until the very last chapter. Fast-paced, emotional, and utterly addictive—I loved every single second of this ride and cannot wait for the next book!
If you’re a fan of college dark romance, clever cat-and-mouse games, and hidden identity tropes, don't miss it.
