* I received a free e-book copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I think that this photography book about Rome was one of the things I needed, as I would like to visit Rome/ Italy in the near future and would like to know more about it. Of course I am familiar with Colosseum of Rome, but I guess that having to look at it live would revive any senses.

I don't think it's worth paying for the actual book edition (hardcopy or paperback), but $5.99 for the Kindle edition of this isn't bad. It's fairly fascinating, with photographs and descriptions of a wide variety of sights to see in Rome. By itself, it couldn't be used as a travel guide, but it does make a nice starting point to browse for interesting places to see.

ROME - A photographic tour: 122 amazing photos by Alexandru Ciobanu takes the reader on a tour through Rome as the title suggests. It is filled with stunning photos of the city that has fascinated people for many centuries. Some photos are spread over double pages, while other pages are the home to multiple photos and some descriptive text. The book combines photos with some basic information about the places where the photos were taken. Of course photos of the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the fortress of St Angelo are here. However, you will also find some photos of places that are a bit lower on a typical tourist's 'to visit' list.

I have been to Rome a few times, and enjoyed browsing this book by Alexandru Ciobanu as it reminded me of many of the places I have visited. The quality of the photos is fantastic, and I can see that the person who took them knows his job as a photographer. The photos capture the essence and magic of ancient Rome very well, but also show that the city has a vibrant energy to it. Some of the photos would also make fantastic posters that I would not mind having on my wall (if I had the space!). It is a great photo book for people who have never been to Rome and would like to get some inspiration about where to go - or simply look at places they might never be able to see. However, it is also a great book for people like me who have been to Rome and would like to reminiscence a bit.

I registered a book at BookCrossing.com!

I received an ebook edition of this book through the LibraryThing Member Giveaway.

The photos in this collection are pretty much uniformly excellent. They're certainly far better than the snapshots I took when in Rome in 2001.

I do have some niggling issues though, probably due to my years as marking student papers. Why does the text accompanying each photo sometimes go out of order. The photos are all numbered consecutively, but the text at one place goes 55, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59, 63, 60, 62, 64, 66, 65, 68, 70, 71, 69, 72, for example. Why not keep the text in the same order as the photos?

The photos also don't seem to be sorted in any particular order. They certainly don't seem to be by theme or geographically. Perhaps at it is a "photographic tour" they could be sorted more logically. A map showing where the subject of each photo is located would be also be a nice addition.

Finally, a history buff such as myself would have liked more detail/more information in the text describing each photo.

But enough complaining. Overall, even though some photos are fairly small, they do scale up reasonably well when you zoom into the photos in the ebook edition. The larger photos, especially the two page spreads, are very beautiful and detailed.

Not quite, but almost as good as going to Rome.

If you’ve ever watched a program on the Travel Channel then you’ve heard the remark which advises you to seek out a “local” to tell you where the best places to eat are. Following this advice you can avoid the overpriced tourist locations.

This advice also applies to what to see while you are there. In his book, Rome – A Photographic Tour, the author, Alexandru Ciobanu, take you on a “personally” guided tour of this capital city of Italy.

Using his skill as a professional photographer, Mr. Ciobanu has selected the best view possible for each of the sites he’s taking the reader to on this tour of Rome. The descriptions, with numbers directing you to the picture involved, cut to the chase without the flowery additions so prevalent on guided tours you pay for.

With both of us being retired, I’d so hope to do some traveling in Europe with my dear OH; but the events of the past few months this might not be able to become a reality. This book has to a large extend taken us there, without the sounds and smells of the city itself; which is why I’m giving this book 5 STARS.

I had originally won an e-book version of this book from the author through a giveaway on LibraryThing, but I couldn’t download the files he had provided. Luckily, this book had been offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD on Amazon, which the author had advised me to take.

Won trough a Goodreads giveaway.

These are some of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen of Rome. The colors and definition were amazing. The points of view of various photos were ones I wouldn't imagine taking but enjoyed seeing. It was nice to see some places I've been before in a different light- and in much better photos or early 90s cameras where you can't what the photos look like until you get them developed and by then its too late to take another shot. Some of photos are of places I never got a chance to see but makes me want to go back to see them. The only reason this book did not get a 5-star rating is because I had wished the description/caption of the photos were under the actual photos instead of scroll forward or backward to see what it says.

I received this book for free thru the Members Giveaway on LibraryThing. The pictures and descriptions of Rome in this book are amazing. It is like being in Rome and getting a history lesson at the same time. If you took this book to Rome with you, you would have a tour guide right in the palm of your hand. The author not only gives you clear pictures of the historic places in Rome, but gives the story behind the locations. The only criticism I have of this book, is that the numbers on the photographs are sometimes hard to see (even though they are usually located in the same place on each picture). This book is good for those who travel and those who do not. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know or see more about the historic sites of Rome, Italy.

The pictures are crisp and have great detail. My eyes are bad so I would've liked to be able to zoom in on a lot of these to see more detail. (I was reading on a Kindle Fire 8.9" HDX). I liked that the pictures are numbered and linked to the text but I would've been more appreciative if the text had been on the same page as the actual picture it was talking about. I had to do a lot of page flipping back and forth between the pictures and the descriptions. Since I was reading it as an ebook page count doesn't really matter so there wasn't really a need to compress multiple pictures onto a single page unless they were related. Overall, though, very nicely done. I felt like I was getting insider information about Rome, where I have never been.

A beautiful study of The Eternal City. This photographic study is simply the finest way for those of us with neither the funds nor physical ability to tramp about Rome in the flesh to enjoy the wonders of antiquity! The colors are excellent and the views delightful. Videography is fine for post-tourists, but for the rest of us, still photos are best for close and/or recurrent study. Many thanks to LibraryThing Giveaways for this spectacular gift.

I received this book for free from Library Thing Member Giveaway Program in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked the beautiful pictures and the history that was depicted in the photographs. The book is short and sweet, so I was really able to concentrate on the details within the photographs and appreciate their subject.
