TOP 5 FUN FACTS ABOUT MOBSTERS
Source:
description
FUN FACT #5
CONTEXT: Autumn is abducted by a Mob Boss & forced to commit vile acts.

"Cage had her study all sorts of things. Sometimes she wouldn’t like a class and would ask to drop it. But he had a set amount she should attend. 'After breakfast you’ll play table tennis, followed by pottery and clarinet lessons.' She was not enjoying the clarinet and would rather learn the drums.' "
~ Autumn

FACT: Mob bosses torture victims with woodwind instruments.
description
FUN FACT #4
CONTEXT: At night, the Mob Boss makes Autumn play strange games with him.

"They played table tennis, more commonly known as ping pong. Cage played against her. He was good. She asked him how he’d learned and he said he’d been home schooled as a child. Ping-Pong was one of the few games he'd gotten to play, and he’d do so for hours.” ~ Autumn

FACT: Home schooling produces mob bosses & Ping-Pong aficionados.
description
FUN FACT #3
CONTEXT: Occasionally, the Mob Boss’s minions reveal vital information.

“ 'At the park, I saw Robins, they had beautiful red breasts.'
'I didn’t know you were into birds,' said Autumn.
Lane smiled. 'I like doves, croons, and swans.'
'I used to like woodpeckers and blue birds. They’re magical.'
'I don’t know if I’ve seen a woodpecker. I think I saw blue birds. And hummingbirds.'
'Wow.' said Autumn.” ~ Lane & Autumn

FACT: Mobster minions like birds.
description
FUN FACT #2
CONTEXT: The longer the minions talk, the greater the discoveries.

" 'The park has roses and daffodils.' Lane said. 'I love roses.'
'I love daisies; purple is my favorite,' said Autumn.
'I don’t think I saw any purple ones. They had white ones growing on a tree.'
'I didn’t think flowers grew on trees. I know like fruit trees. Like, cherry blossoms. Not daisies.'
'They were around the roots. I think it was an oak tree, or maybe birch. I can’t be sure.' " ~ Lane & Autumn

FACT: Mobster minions may be mentally deficient.
OH LOOK! A RANDOM FLASH MOBSTER DANCE OFF!
description
FUN FACT #1
CONTEXT: Sometimes, the Mob Boss gives Autumn frightening gifts.

"Autumn lifted the cloth and saw hundreds of cheeses.
Cage beamed, 'I got you every known cheese.'
'Oh.' said Autumn, looking at the table full of cheeses. He’d gotten every cheese known. How long would it take to sample them all? Weeks, at least. Maybe months or even years." ~ Autumn & Cage

FACT: Mob bosses love cheesus.
description
BOTTOM LINE:

While, Kept, by Leona Keyoko Pink, got bogged down with Autumn’s mundane daily activities, repetitive inner monologues, and strange conversations; the parts of the story that focused on Cage and his mob business where really well done. Had Cage been the central focus of the story, this would have been a far more entertaining read.

As it stands:

This was the biggest disappointment ever! It had started so well...our heroine (Autumn) already captured by baddies, but instead of being freaked out, she was warning them they didn't realise who they were messing with, and actually was thinking being in this hostage situation was so much better than where she was previously...and then our anti-hero (Cage) makes his entry - and it's all cool like a slow motion John Woo action film...and i'm like, yeah this is some bad ass dude. Once he rescues the h (or is that re-captures?) he proceeds to pretty much forcefully have sex with her (i knew going in that this was a dark book...so it's to be expected. The fact Autumn wasn't really into it - was a surprise - no 'betraying body alert here' which was refreshing (and i was thinking...yes finally a heroine who doesn't crumble for a handsome antihero! She's going to bide her time and get her revenge - whoohoo! Payback is going to be a bitch, antihero!). Till this point i'm thinking 4 stars at least (This is 10% of the book)....But then in all fell apart....

This is what we are meant to take away after reading the book:

Because the ass-wipe antihero says "i love you" it's A-ok to all of a sudden stop hating him and wanting to leave and now wanting to have sex with him...yes it's all perfectly acceptable to forget he is keeping you prisoner (controlling what you eat, wear, do etc) and all this time when he apparently loves you it was ok he was busy boinking other women (in one incidence you catch him with 2 women sexing it up in his office) and oh let's not forget... HE BLEW YOUR FIANCE'S BRAINS OUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. But no, all of that now does not matter, because he said those 3 magic words.

I'm not even going to start in on the endless and boring scenes where it describes in great detail what Autumn gets up to every single day - suffice to say, she's cuckoo if she thought being taken hostage and being beaten and dehydrated and kept hungry was a better situation than having a custom built garden made especially for her, having a chef prepare her food, playing table tennis, and have tutors on hand and getting to buy anything you want while in the anti-hero's care.

I'm not even going to rant about the most dumbest, idiotic, can you even be that stupid scene near the end...where bullets are being sprayed around...Cage's right hand man is shot and dying...and Autumn won't let them move and try escape until she gets the answer to "what am i? your prisoner? your girlfriend? your whore?" question....really? is that what you really need to know as people around you are dying and you have an opportunity to escape? And what does our mighty badass anti-hero do? Starts a long monologue about how he loves her and the minute he laid eyes on her while she was on her way to the bathroom in the restaurant (nice!) he just couldn't stop thinking about her blah blah (don't mind the poor schmuck (right hand man) who is dying right beside you...whom you could save if you just moved your behind and got out of there instead of wasting time with your speech...by this point i would have been quite happy if the baddie came up to both the H and h and put a bullet in both of them...saving me from reading all this

It started out so dang promising. I was enjoying it and excited about it for the first half of the book. Unfortunately, this is another case of too much inner monologuing by the heroine, and the redundancy--oy. There was way too much focus on the heroine's daily routines while captive, the monotony was endless. At first it didn't bother me but eventually this became an issue for me. Her schedule was jammed packed with hobbies, lessons, classes, exercise, unlimited shopping sprees and other activities. It only made me see how lazy I am, really. And as if knowing every detail of her schedule wasn't enough, we even got to read about what was on the menu for her every day from her personal chef. Joy! Honestly, I wouldn't mind switching places with her--she was quite the pampered captive. Anyway, what I greatly appreciated about this dark romance was the dynamic between the main characters, Autumn and Cage. He's the villain that gets the girl...as in he took her captive, and he'd burn the whole goddamn world for her. Be still, my heart; I was hooked. There was something about Cage that intrigued me. He could be grumpy, indifferent, unemotional, cynical, arrogant...basically all my favorite characteristics in a hero 🥰😂 but he adored Autumn. Also, Autumn didn't start catching feelings for him on Day 1 or 2. No, it took her 2 YEARS to even begin to remotely...not hate him *LOL* I appreciated that as well because in most captive stories, the main female character immediately starts lusting over her captor and I always find that eye-roll inducing.

There was a lot of action (not as in sex) towards the end. This isn't my favorite thing in romance. I was told book 2 will have loads of action and suspense. I'm not sure I will continue.

Where to begin with this review? I'm so conflicted! Ok, so the story is the classic alpha mob hero kidnaps sweet but strong heroine, breaks her down, Stockholm Syndrome plus a little bit of true love, action with enemies, hero fights for heroine, yada yada. However, this is probably the best Stockholm Syndrome story that I've read so far (and I've read almost all of them!) The characters were BRILLIANT! The story had brilliant moments of action and both characters were extremely realistic, I could actually feel both their frustrations as I read the book. So why did i give this 3 stars?? Because the author bored me to death with her word count! Why the author felt the need to write every single second of the heroine's life in painstaking detail, I don;t know. But it almost made me DNF! I truly hope the author writes more books but with less mundane pointless details. She truly has a gift with her characterisation and writing, but the petty details were like torture!

DISCLAIMER: oh I think I just started an unfinished series 💀 Apparently book 3 ends on a major cliffhanger?? I hope it is a self-contained cliffhanger, sort of like for this book, where you could stop the series after this one and still feel satisfied about the couple’s HEA/HFN.

Unexpectedly so damn good. One of my favourite mafia captive stories. I got engrossed into the mafia war of retaliation, and what an opening chapter!! I love when we’re dropped right into their relationship.

I also thought there were small touches of humour, such as when Autumn asks Cage “ok but what are we” in the middle of a big to the death battle 😝😝

The writing is just plain and simple. As I’m not some grammar expert I can’t really point out about the writing but going through other reviews it’s obvious that there are grammatical errors. Also the book drags and is super lengthy.

Why I liked the book was because the H was very possessive of the h. He kidnaps her. He is so obsessed with her that he doesn’t let her out of his sight. There are always bodyguards around her.

The beginning was okay but I started getting interested, mainly because the h was not desperate and horny for the H. She was reluctant and always tried to defy him. The middle part dragged a bit. Then again picked it’s pace. The ending was a cliffhanger and I’m surely going to read the next book.

So if these things bother you then it’s better you don’t read this one.

I really liked this. It had a lot of potential with some editing problems and some abrupt bouncing around. However, it was such a damn trainwreck I couldn't put it down. This is a crime tale of obsession that is eye rollingly kooky but so much fun. Cage is a hot mess of an alpha criminal with a rapey edge. He kills people with impunity. He's a God awful sexual predator and I didn't think he was romantic or this was a romance. It was just fun to read. The author is talented but needs to work on her editing. Also more details on right after the abduction were not there. It was all told in flashbacks. I would have liked more details on the begining right after the engagement dinner fiasco. That was really gripping but she dropped off after Autumn was put in the car and then it was back to the present. That was my pet peeve. That was a great opportunity missed. Three and half is as much as I can give Pink. I love the creativity and ability to get to the point without floundering too bad. Nice blood spray. Write more.

An absolute must read!

As an aficionado of dark romance\erotic thrillers with captive\non con aspects I don't know how I missed this ,intriguing, thrilling, gut wrenching ,life affirming extravaganza whose unforgettable, unique antihero will stand firm as one of the most memorable I have encountered to date. If this genre is also in your wheelhouse,I urge you not to miss this one.
I'm moving on to book two post haste so all I will add is my surprise at the sparse number of reviews.I know I'll be recommending in my Facebook groups to see if I can assist!

Wow

Absolutely loved it. What a ride. But please, let's hope this is not the end. Talk about one alpha male. Cage saw her, wanted her and took her. If you like mob stories and a strong heroine, Read this book.

Cage is an ADDICTION for one should never seek treatment!!

So yeah I’m a sucker for mafia men who can handle securing their soul mates by any means necessary. Kept is so full of drama and action that I felt as if I were center stage to the goodies!

A celebratory lunch with her fiancé changes Autumn’s life forever. One chance encounter and Cage is hooked. He’s getting the girl whether she wants to be his girl or not. Autumn definitely does not want to be Cage’s girl. She fight’s him all the way. Cage owns her though and Autumn knows it. Her body definitely knows Cage is the man! I’m sure I don’t have to go into detail about the love play between Cain and Autumn. An alpha man like Cage knows how to please his woman….Autumn is as docile as a kitten each time Cage handles her.

Cage doesn’t know murdering Autumn’s fiancé to claim her will result in a war with another crime organization. Is Autumn worth the chaos, the unbelievable body count on both sides, the millions of dollars lost, and constant harassment of law enforcement? Yes, yes, and YES according to Cage!

Car bombs, building demolitions, gun fights! You name it. It happened in this book!

I absolutely love this story and it certainly deserves 5+ stars. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!

This hooked me in straight away. I love it every time I had time to read I would read a page. I couldn't stop thinking of the characters when I'm working.

This is a great read with plenty of things to hook you in more and more. I know I said this once but I love this book.

I don't want it to end.

I was surprised by this book, it was good. I had a lot of issues about the H's mistreatment of the h. He does not even care to check on her after she was kidnapped for days. Although he does soften up as the story progresses, I wanted him to be better towards her. I also wanted the h to not act so bratty. Nevertheless, I may continue the story as it did have a cliffhanger ending.

Triggers: coercion/rape (but not in detail just alluded), cheating, murder, etc.

ONLY read this series if you like a combination of a wattpad novel thrown in with scenes from movies like The Terminator, Bourne Series, and John Wick Series.

One man army who has secret hideyholes and death traps and various layers hidden all over the country if not world. And a useless childish tstl FMC.

This book is like a demolition site…. -C rating. There is so much chaos and unrealistic situations it’s disappointing. There is no chemistry or flow between characters and books. Secondary characters that we are led to believe are important somehow just disappear.

Oh H also cheats on the h with her knowledge and supposed approval because she clearly doesn’t want him (heavy sarcasm). She literally sees H having a 3some fucking one woman then 3 seconds later dipping his wand into the 2nd girl, but then later he fucks the h too and she doesn’t say anything.

Good but could have been great (WARNING, minor spoilers)

This book was a very enjoyable read, a great story, enjoyable characters and scenes so well written I swear I could smell the gunpowder but this book is in desperate need of editing. In some places it became very repetitive and I actually found a couple of sentences repeated verbatim on pages apart. I had to start skipping some of the story as it was annoying me so much.
For this reason I found it very hard to get into the book, but about halfway in I really started to get into it, so it's worth persevering.

**SPOILER**

My other big problem is that Cage was sleeping with other women at the beginning of the book, despite having been "in love" and with Autumn for two years. I don't like cheating in books (even if it isn't technically cheating as she know about it, but still) and do prefer a warning before I read, but also, if a man is so physically obsessed with someone to kill their fiancè and kidnap them I feel like sleeping with someone else breaks the extremity of that. It completely took me out of the story.
In saying all this, I enjoyed this and I am looking forward to reading the next one

9/14/2023 I am revising my review due to book four in this series. Book four was absolutely unreadable. The number of grammar errors was ridiculous. My rating has gone down to a two star....I feel like I wasted my time and didn't get an ending to a series.

Wow, where to start on this one. First let me say that it's been a while, and I mean a long while, since I read a book written totally in the third person, where the person telling the story is standing so far away. And I am usually Ok with just about any writing style as long as it is done well. So there is my dilemia.

The story has all the makings of a great mafia romance read. The violence, the kidnapping, the rape and forced touching of his "member" in all the ways possible. But the telling of the story was in such a way that as a reader I never felt any emotion. No fear, no love, no lust, no hate, no yearning, nothing really, very sterile. It felt like someone was telling me a story and they had no inflection in their voice. Jack.....and.....Jill....walked....up....the....hill....... I kept thinking that Autumn would wake up at some point and it would all be a dream, and then the story would come to life. That never happened. Then there was the repetitive days and hours dragging through Autumn's daily life. So OK, maybe the author was trying to make a point, but that got a bit boring actually. And my biggest pet peeve, grammar errors...well way too many to ignore.

So this is my delemia. I actually liked the story. I kept reading the story. I wanted to keep reading the story. So I don't know what that says other than it really was pretty good in some weird way that kept my attention.

I wanted so much to give this book more stars. I am glad I read it, and I will probably read some more of this author's books. So I am giving this book 3.5 stars. Let's see if the writing style grows on me and if the editing gets better so I can give the author more stars.

I won't lie, some themes in this book are not for everything.

Cage (the guy) is a super possessive alpha who unwillingly took Autumn (the girl) away from her life. Yes, he kidnapped her and for the last two years she been living a... (dark fairy tale). She's his women and she f***** hates him for about the first half of the book. It wasn't until her caretaker (best friend) dies that things start to shift. She gets to know him, spend time with him, and eventually falls hard for him (until the end when she confesses her love for him). He's always loved her, but it kinda hard to believe (he very serious). He also does things to the H which makes you hate his guts.
Read at your own risk. This is part 1 of the series.

Interesting start to the series.

Autumn became Cage's obsession when he first saw her 2 years ago, and he knew he had to have her. And so he did. He took her and kept her as his prisoner in his house after killing her fiancé.

Autumn hates Cage which is understandable. He's kidnapped her and keeps her imprisoned in his house although he gives her all the luxury money can buy except her freedom. We see some moments of softness from Cage towards Autumn but we also see his ruthless side too. He claims to love her but still takes other women whenever he wants.

Eventually, things happen that make Autumn realise she doesn't entirely hate him, and the book ends on sort of a cliffhanger.
