You know the stuff that runs through your mind that never sees the light of your voice? Well here you get to read the thoughts of a character that are just all too familiar. Chloe's life turns upside down when Theo (A cute dog) arrives around the same time as Brody AKA Mr Hottie. Strange things start to happen and things are not making as much sense as they used to - especially while trying to deal with the raging hormones that see Chloe melt whenever she sees Brody.
This is a cozy read that will spike your interest, make you laugh out loud and wonder which of the characters is the unleashed killer. With each turn of the page you will learn to love the characters more and more and the ending will leave you feeling all fuzzy and warm inside - and no, that's not my hormones talking!
This was the first book I read by Beth Prentice. I thought it was hilarious. I love the characters! I did not entirely guess the ending which had some twists in it. I am definitely reading more of this series and from this author.
A light hearted book about a gal Chloe who takes in her neighbours dog. Strange things start happening in the neighbourhood and a handsome man moves in across the street. Some mystery, some romance. A good light read.
Chloe is very surprised one day, when Betty, the nice old lady who lives across the street, says she's moving to a retirement home, at the insistence of family she's never previously mentioned. Because of this, she needs to surrender her beloved little dog, Theo, although the two have been inseparable until now. But she can't do it herself, she says. She's made arrangements with a woman at the local shelter, called Lucy, she says. Will Chloe bring Theo in?
Chloe is a people pleaser, and can't say no. But when she gets there, parked outside, Theo and his cuteness guilt her into deciding to keep him.
Within days, Chloe's life has turned upside down, and not primarily due to Theo, who is well-trained and well-behaved.
A drop-dead hot guy named Brody has moved into Betty's house. Another empty neighborhood house has been filled by a couple who seem distant, cold, and judgmental. Her friend Isaac and his boyfriend Adam are also her neighbors, and when they have a big fight, Isaac turns up at her door, seeking a place to stay.
Then there are the two break-ins at her house, another at Brody's (formerly Betty's), and the attempts to steal Theo.
Then her ex-boyfriend, who dropped her abruptly and humiliatingly, is suddenly coming around again.
It's confusing and a bit alarming, but becomes truly scary when there are two murders.
It's a hilarious roller-coaster, with some real scares thrown in. It's icing on the cake that Theo shows the loyalty and bravery that those of us who have small dogs often enjoy.
Chloe's neighbor, Betty, was moving to an elder living establishment. She can't take her little dog with her. Betty has made arrangements with a lady named Lucy at the dog shelter and asks Chloe if she will take Theo and turn him in. ... Chloe gets to the shelter, but instead of turning him in, she decides to keep the cute little dog herself. Theo gets a wonderful new home and new friends. This works out well, because she has just kicked out her former boyfriend, Jack, and was in need of a little TLC. ... Luckily, a gay couple Issac and Adam live next door. Issac becomes a welcome help and partner to Chloe... Especially when a handsome single fellow, Brody, moves into to Betty's old house. ---But then strange things begin happening in the neighborhood .... including two possible murders! -- The plot gets a bit entangled and Chloe looses some of her charm (and smarts) in the mess. I almost quit before the very contrived and confused end happens. ... I won't be reading any more of this series.
Chloe is a total pushover, she seems totally unable to say no to anyone, so when her neighbourm Betty, asks her to take Theo (her small dog) to the rescue centre, as she is moving into a retirement home, Chloe agrees. But then Theo looks at her with his little puppy eyes and she decides that if he is going to be re-homed then it is with her, so she gets a load of dog stuff (err the bed never gets used as Theo has decided that the majority of the Queen Sized bed belongs to him!), then strange things start happening down the road, Chloe's friend Issac has seen lights on and people moving around in Betty's old house - even though the new tenant (Brody) is at work.
The someone tries to snatch Theo, someone breaks into Chloe's, and Chloe is having not so good thoughts about her new neighbour!
The hero of this book has four legs and a fur coat. Theo is a Chihuahua who was supposed to go to the animal shelter, but instead gets adopted by Chloe. Theo becomes the focus of dog snatchings and break ins, and it is up to Chloe to figure out what is going on, and why Theo seems to be at the crux of everything. This is Beth Prentice at her finest. She weaves a great story complete with hot men, crazy neighbours and laughs aplenty.
I received this book as an Arc from the author and I’m writing a review because I want to. This is an exciting first book in this series. A woman finds herself a dog owner after her elderly neighbor goes into a retirement home. Several people seem too interested in him. There are several layers in here. Highly recommended!
This was a light hearted mystery with likeable and flawed characters. The story was a bit light as I guessed some of the bad guys; and the fact that all the bad guys were family was a bit much, but i enjoyed this as a fun and amusing read.
What a fun read!!! Really enjoyed this book! Characters are believable and ones you cheer for. The story will make you laugh and keep you wanting more.
Loved every minute of this book.. it was a bit frustrating to see Cloe and Broady in love with itchader but not making the move, but they did get there eventually
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. It was fast-paced funny and quite romantic all rolled into one package. I know it must be difficult in this day and age to present something that doesn't have everhot of a sexual context to it but this author has accomplished that by focusing on the mystery. It wasn't a terribly complicated mystery but it was action-packed and enough characters to keep it moving along at a very brisk pace. About the only thing I could find fault with what is a fact that we had a grown woman who seem to have such a crush on the hero that she was almost none functional around him and focused on that continually. Otherwise they were all people that you've met or find as a part of your family or neighbors or friends and many of whom you would love to be around. The way she characterized the dog made you want to just pick him up and cuddle him yourself if you were a dog person. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to have fun like breed and wants to laugh.
Killer Unleased is a fun, complex mystery with well developed characters. When Chloe chose to keep her neighbor's dog instead of turning it over to a shelter, she thought she was doing a good thing. She and Theo had become attached to one another and her neighbor said had to give the dog up because her kids were moving her into an assisted living home that did not allow pets. Everything seems normal except that now Chloe and Theo have each other.
When odd things start happening at her neighbor's old house, Chloe does not connect it to herself until more strange things start happening. Her old boyfriend comes back, two of her new neighbors act strangely, and the hunk who moves into Betty's old house pays more attention to Chloe than she expects. Is his interest in her or is something more sinister going one. There is only one way to find out.
This book has laughs-love-mystery-and an adorable dog. What more could anyone want?
KILLER UNLEASHED is a fun cozy mystery about a kind-hearted girl who decides to keep a neighbor's dog instead of leaving him at a dog shelter as the original owner requested when she moved into a nursing home. From there it was a frolicking read that included a lot of new neighbors, an ex-boyfriend, many unusual incidents, and one very cute dog. Anyone who likes cozy mysteries will enjoy this book as a diversion from whatever of life's little chores are demanding your attention. Between the dog, best friends, and falling in love, this book has a mysterious code and results in many B&E's and a couple murders. What more could anyone want?
I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review, thanks to Gemma Halliday publishing :)
I absolutely loved this book, it flowed so well with a well thought out story line that got you caught up in it & believable characters who were very likable that you could relate to, I ended up reading this book in just over a day!! Chloe just can't say no so ends up with a new house guest Theo the dog, when her elderly neighbor goes to live in a retirement village! From that point Chloe's life definitely gets more interesting, not only has she got a new (hot) neighbor Brody but strange things start happening.....
Great Book! This is a great book. When Chloe can’t say no her elderly neighbor when she asks her to take a small dog to the animal shelter. When the dog looks at her, there is no way she can leave him so she ends up keeping him. That is when her problems start. Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put it down until the end. The characters are great, and the story will pull you in. If you are looking for a great mystery with some humor, then you need to read this book. Great book - Chloe winds up with Theo a dog she couldn't conceive of giving to a shelter when her elderly neighbor moved. Things are crazy for her when people try to kill get and keep the dog. She meets a hunky guy who lives next door. Lots of crazy things keep happening. People try to kill her. People want Theo including the elderly neighbor. She figures out the mystery with the help of a friend and her handsome neighbor.
A very well-written story with believable characters that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next. There is a little something for everyone - mystery, romance, a cute dog and a zany friend this is a great way to spend a few hours.
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
****I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review**** I really enjoyed this read. I found it to be humorous and it kept me guessing with all the mysterious characters brought in throughout the book. I'm glad that I wasn't wrong about Betty!
Really enjoyed the storyline and love the characters especially the dog. I could have had a little less "rush of hormones" lines. Mystery would still have been good. Planing on reading more by this author
I really liked this book! It was nice to see Chloe being honest. She was a fairly strong character but human and likeable. It has humor and romance. The mystery was not intense or too violent.
This story has it all! It will make you laugh until tears run down your legs and cry a little sometimes. The characters are so real and you will especially love Chloe. Every woman can probably relate to things she goes through. It was a fun book.
OMG... I had my heart in my throat so many times. What a beautiful book filled with friendship, laughter, action and adrenaline. I swear I would go and get a rescue dog from a shelter after reading about Theo - if I didn't already have 8 cats, 7 of which are rescues. Thanks Beth. I loved it xxx
