Charlene is the nurse from the first chapter of Edge of the Heat 6, the one who paced the halls, praying JT would arrive before his mother died. This is her story. You do not need to have read any of of the Edge of the heat books to enjoy this story.
Safety and comfort are important to Charlene, but when she loses both by clinging to what should ensure them for her, she has to find a way out. Charlene's soldier makes her believe there is more out there for her, and she is worth it.
Charlene is a married woman who's husband is cheating, drinking and wasting their money. She goes to a woman's self defense class with her sister where Relic, a soldier on leave is helping and the attraction scares her. Very, very short and predictable. Charlene almost comes across as a girly teenager but kinda strong when she makes decisions and gets her life back. That's it really. One sex scene near the end. Not much character build-up because it was too short.
The short story of Charlene and Relic was awesome. Charlene was in a verbally abusive marriage. Her sister talked her into going to a self defense class with her. Relic is the special instructor. Charlene and Relic were instantly drawn to each other, but never acted on it, until the day she got her separation papers in the mail, and he was being deployed to Afghanistan. They shared an afternoon of hot, passionate sex and her gave her his address to write to him.
Loved Charlene's story, every woman should have her strength to stand up for what she deserves! Can't wait to see what happens next in her relationship with Relic
This is a story of a marriage on the rocks and abusive and the woman finding the courage to stand up for herself. A meeting at a class helps her realise and deal with her problems. Not a long story but one I feel would give hope to any woman going through a relationship similar help them recognise the signs for what they are, yes its a fictional story but this happens far to often and if a book can help even one woman in my mind that is a bonus. I loved that because previous readers enjoyed this so much Lisa went on to write a follow up for Relic and Charlene, which I shall be reading next. Inspirational read.
I don't normally read short stories. I thought this one was good because of the subject. (What abuse is weather it be physical or verbal ) in any relationship. I deal with a lot of people that deal with abuse. Some feel so trapped. Don't know how to get out. This for both sexes also.1 800 799 7233. It can happen to anyone. Please get help. I think Lisa outlined well what abuse is.
Great story of finding happiness. Wish for happy ever after. The love of a solider. Learning you deserve love and care of a good man. I have read most of your books and the series of Heat, Firemen. Great series.
It was a sweet story, where a woman bursts forth from a miserable marriage and rediscovers herself with the help of her Self-Defense Class instructor. However, it was riddled with textual errors and typos that made the text difficult to follow at times.
It was a short story , but a good read . Im glad charlene got out if that marriage... i wish i knew what happend with the soldier and charlene after he left
I want d more of the story. Kudos to the author for splitting this up in a way that will bring the reader back. It wasn't the best story but now I'm curious to know what's going to happen to Charlene and Relic.
Started reading this book while my granddaughter was admitted into the hospital... The day she was discharged I read it to her mom... on the way home while she was driving...( Her name is Charlene) WE loved it... It is about a woman that is trying to find herself.. She is in an abusive marriage... Her sister takes her to a self-defense class that is held by Relic... He is a sweet man, with a heart of gold... During the class Charlene comes to the realization that she has to change her life... And she does... This book has an HEA... you will fall in love with the characters and want them to be happy... Loved the relationship between the sisters... No one could ask for a better sister than Karry... Looking forward to the next book in the series...Club Privet: Her Soldier's Solace (Kindle Worlds Novella)...Looks like it is going to be a great series... It feels that Lisa has put her heart and soul into this book... You feel what Charlene is going through... As you can tell this book has triggers...
This was the first book I read by Ms. Ladew. It was very well put together and articulate. I really liked the fact that Charlene wasn't bitter to the other woman. The storyline was very evocative of what a lot of women deal with. Feeling like they have to stay in a bad relationship because they don't have the confidence to believe in their bodies or their strengths.
I also liked the idea of taking self-defense classes for women. I look forward to reading more of her work.

I liked the nurse in Heat 6 book and wanted to know her story. Charlene is married to her high school boyfriend and what once was a happy marriage is know a scary one. Wayne stays out all night, drinks too much, and comes home smelling like perfume. He has not worked in 4 months and Charlene discoverers he has spent there savings and started abusing her verbally. It is only when her sister begs her to go to a self defense classes that she relieves what has become of her marriage. If only she could stop thinking about her trainer too.
I could not put it down. I actually REALLY wanted more from the story. It hooked me in and made me feel for the leading lady. This is a stand alone and you do not need to read the other works to read this one. This story touched on so many things that I truly never wanted it to end. I loved how the author captured so much and covered some deep topics. It also wasn't the HEA I was expecting but ended in a way that was very realistic.
I was going to skip this bonus story and I wish I would have. I know it was a novella but the story with charlene and relic wasn't even a story. this would have had potential to be a novel if done right. the only good thing about this is that charlene finally stood up for herself. had nothing to do with the westwood series.
I fell in love with Relic and Charlene! It is hard as a woman to overcome feelings of betrayal and mental anguish. Lisa Ladew did a wonderful job of making Charlene the type of woman all of us should be lucky enough to be.. And making Relic the kind of man that could deserve her one day... Enjoy!!!
I really enjoyed this story about Charlene. This is a very fast paced read but it does well handling Charlene's home life with her drunk and abusive husband and her powerful strength. Her sister pushing her to attend a class with her helped with the boost and a connection she didn't know she needed . Great read!
Another fantastic read. Nice short novella. I did spend much of my time wondering when they would finally express their interest in each other but liked the fact there was ZERO cheating on Charlene's behalf. Even though her marriage was in shambles she did not give into the desire to break her vows.
Very good quick read and Her Soldiers Solace is a great follow up on the book.
Great story with a great message! It's not as action-packed as the rest of the Edge Of Heat series but still a great read. Although it technically doesn't end in a cliffhanger it is still kind of open ended. The author then leaves a link to the continuation of the story that link it to the Club Prive series by MS Parker.
Loved this book one of my favourite short reads, glad to see Charlene get her own story. I remembered her from the beginning of Edge of Heat 6 and wondered what her story was. Hope she and Relic get a full length novel as I would like to see how their story ends
What a great story. So proud of her...a hard thing to do...been there. Thanks Lisa for this one... Hope to be able to follow these characters the future.
