Let's go back in time and see how Cordelia Kelly from Duality began…

Every person has emotional wounds, internal scars, and at one time or another, witnessed an event they wished they'd never saw. These things change us irrevocably.

For Cordelia Kelly, growing up at the mercy of her Dark Empathic father caused her to tear in two when she was sixteen, as she tried to save her light empathic mother from his brutal attacks. She unknowingly unleashed her inner duality then struggled under the weight of who she truly is, and what she's capable of.

This is the beginning...

Torn in Two is a 24 page short story delving into the teenage mind of Cordelia Kelly. The story can stand alone, but is better read after Duality.

VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a 4 star book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.

As a fan of Duality, I appreciated seeing the origin of Cordelia's dual natures -- Cordy (the light one) and Delia (the dark one). Cordelia is the direct result of a coupling by her parents -- two greater opposites if I'd even seen them. Her father, Alton is the antithesis of the everything pure and good. But, her mother Charmeine once typified everthing good that Cordelia strived to be. Unfortunately, her father beat her mother's spirit right out of her where she was just a shell of her former self. In a particular vicious attack on her mother, Cordelia's reign on her dark side snaps and Cordy emerges for the first time. What happened after that changed the course of Cordelia's life and future forever.

This story was a short and potent introduction to the Cordelia Kelly series. Having read Duality first, I am able to appreciate the simple complexity of this novella because it sets the stage for the Cordelia we see in Duality. Excellent mini.

I truly like this authors writing its so vivid and pulls me in. It was a super short :-( story to give a little back ground on Cordelia but I was left wanting more than I got. I guess that's good for the next book but I would have liked just a tad more on her history.

Interesting premise. I suspect it was unfortunate that I read this first, because so much of it seemed to assume a broader familiarity with the characters.
