I Need A Day to Pray

Rate this book
My life looked pretty good on the outside. I'm a preacher's kid who was basically born and raised in church. I came to know God as a kid, got serious about Him as a teen, then changed my mind and strayed, but came back to Him as a young adult. I loved the Lord and chose to have a relationship with Him but I struggled, for many years, to have a committed walk.

I Need A Day To Pray is the prayer journal of Grammy Award Winning Gospel Artist Tina Campbell. This journal consists of over twenty-five prayers. Each prayer is written in two parts. The first part is Tina’s prayer, which is then followed by Bible Scriptures. Each Scripture serves as a cross reference, allowing the reader to see God’s promise as it relates to that prayer.

I must admit l was a little disappointed with this book. I was not disappointed by the prayers themselves. Instead, I was disappointed because l did not know this was a book consisting ONLY of prayers. Even in the Foreword, Dr. Clarice Fluitt states, “In reading her story, you cannot help but live her life with her, become transfixed and transformed.” l understood this to mean l was going to read Tina’s story. However, outside of the Introduction where in which Tina gives a brief overview of her life, this book is not directly about Tina’s life at all.

Furthermore, l expected the majority of the book to actually be written by Tina. However, she only writes about twenty-five percent of this book. While the other seventy-five percent is filled with Scriptures taken directly from The King James Version of the Bible. With so much of the book being direct quotes, it left me feeling as if l was actually reading the Bible. I have no problem with reading the Bible. However, because l thought l was going to read a memoir, l was somewhat unsatisfied when l ended up reading something different. It is for these reasons l am disappointed with this book.

However, if you’re looking to learn how to pray, this is definitely the book for you! The prayers are very powerful. This is not a book that you should read page by page. Instead it is a spiritual guide that contains some very enlightening and heartfelt prayers.

Sort of ran through this book but it was a fairly short one anyway. She really did some praying in this book but at least it helped her get on track.

It's not that the book was bad, it just wasn't what I was looking for one. I thought it would be a more guided and comprehensive devotional, but it was more of just a listing of scriptures.

Tina Campbell's testimony is so inspiring to me. I've never been married, so I don't understand anything about marital challenges; but watching Tina and Teddy overcome their troubles through the Word of God encourages me to utilize the Word to overcome any situation I face.

I gave this book 3 stars because it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was looking for this to be more of a personal story about her life - her upbringing, music career, marital issues, etc. - however, it's more a prayer/devotional book than a biography. Although some of the declarations are very powerful, it was a bit redundant in some parts.

I recommend this book to everyone. If you're facing any challenges, use this book to declare some spiritual affirmations over your life during your prayer time. I bet it will work!

It takes courage to be a living witness and share your testimony with others. Especially knowing that your journey will not be easy but that it will not only bring you closer to Christ but also lend you as a messenger of His word. Tina Campbell does just that in "I need a day to pray." It's a story and roadmap about faith and deliverance and perseverance during some of our most difficult times.

I especially enjoyed the structure of the book and the references to biblical text. That's so important for me, having a pathway to continue the work on my own.

DNF.I was so excited to read this book after watching the show. Then became disappointed as I read the chapters. I couldn’t finish the book because it lost my interest so quickly. It’s basically a book of her prayers and scriptures. It probably would have kept my interest if she wrote a scenario I thought process before prayer. I just don’t think it was enough input from her in this book. The best part was the introduction

Tina Campbell is the daughter of a preacher. She knew the Lord as a child but strayed from her path only to come back as a young adult. But she struggled for years to have a committed walk with the Lord.

Tina takes us to the throne with this book. She teaches us how to forgive in order to receive Gods' blessings. The book is packed with scriptures on finances, marriage, and praise/worship; I call them daily devotionals. Excellent read!
