In this sequel to the best-selling dystopian romance Human Nature, what other horrific secrets will Phylum and Canopy uncover in the world below…
The day of the fog massacre, Canopy and Phylum barely made it our alive. The attack from Phylum’s mother—from what used to be his people—took a devastating toll, but nothing could be worse than learning that his daughter Ash was captured in the process.
Now, they must find a way to save Ash from the clutches of the merciiless underground society, but Canopy worries that returning could mean losing Phylum for good. They were already torn apart for five unbearable years, she can’t take grieving him again. But she may not have a choice.
A girl and a boy against the world. A girl and a boy trying to move forward and trying not to break apart. At times, it seemed impossible, like the end was imminent. And yet, they both persisted. Together and apart, they persisted. The boy did all he could to save her; the girl did all she could to free him. And neither succeeded in the end.
And yet, this is more than a love story. This is an ode to survival, healing, and persevering, even when everything falls apart around you. It is a story of dark days, a grim past, present, and future. Still, even in the darkest of hours, there is light. Dim, diminished, but still shining through. A ray of light in the eyes of a boy and a girl finding their way to one another over and over again.
Canopy and Phylum aren't the same as they were five years ago, but does it even matter? They are what their world shaped them to be, but they are also who they decided they could be and will become. They are human, and simple as that sounds, it means everything. Flawed, scarred, bent but never broken. The world around them is still dark, but their light will shine through. We just have to wait a little longer.
Thank you for the author for trusting me with an ARC.
Boy oh boy what a book. Having read Human Nature last year I was left with so many questions that I was yearning for answers. Did I get them in Lost Time? Yes I did. Did this book leave me devastated and with more questions? Yes it did.
I loved seeing more of Canopy's own struggles behind the bubbly personality we saw in book 1 and how misunderstood I think Canopy was in Human Nature, at least in my eyes. This facade of Canopy trying to shield Phylum from the darkness of her mind and how traumatized she truly was and still is, was something heartbreakingly beautiful to read about.
Ans as much as I hate Zirconia, she might be one of my favourite villains with how far she is willing to go to break these characters. I'm excited to see where book 3 takes us.
I'll share my favourite quote from the book below.
I love you. Always. Through endlessly glossed eyes, I traced the handwriting, the way it trembled and carved into the paper. I got my goodbye, my answers, my chance to save him. Now, all that was left was for the thread to snap, ripping my heart out of my chest in the process. Any minute…

I am so grateful to have received an ARC e-book from the author. Lost Time answered so many questions I had been waiting for answers for from Human Nature, but also created so many more. Canopy's bubbly personality in book one hid a traumatised, barely functioning individual that seems to be clinging on to the idea of Phylum, which reversed my expectations considering how Phylum seemed to be the barely functioning one in book one. I loved finding out so much more about the surface, and getting to see more of the dark side of Canopies mind - the one she was so careful to hide from Phylum. I also loved seeing how far Zirconia was willing to go, she is turning more and more into a unhinged villan with no holds barred and I love it!! Would recommend giving this series a read, I am excited to see what book three brings!
A phenomenonal sequel to book one. I loved exploring more of the surface with Canopy, and experiancing the physiological impact of book one with them both. Getting Canopy's perspective from book one was awesome, I love getting to see past her sunny facade to the broken, traumatised person underneath. I can't wait for book three!!
i just finished Lost Time today, i loved it!!! seriously this book was awesome, i won't spoil it too bad i'll just give you some vibes. biggest thing is that i LOVE the direction this was taken in!! i loved getting to see through Canopy's eyes and learning more about her as a person and her past, and it was so so cool and interesting how dark this book got. it's not dark in a way that's really shocking or graphic, but there are some very unsettling moments and the emotions of those moments are written in such a compelling and immersive way. this author conveys emotion really well through the whole book in fact, it's one of my favourite things about her writing. it was also SO interesting getting to see more of this world and its people and social structures. another MASSIVE standout for me is the way disability is covered, it's a huge part of this story and this book in particular and i've truly never read something that i feel has portrayed disability the way Angelica does. i'm gonna be lurking on her instagram so hard waiting for book three <3
Thanks to @author.bonnibelle.angelica for the eARC
Lost Time by Bonnibelle Angelica
The story is a mix of dystopian and sci-fi, with the population moving into a bunker after the earth is infected. Lost Time carries on from where Human Nature left off and follows Canopy's story across different timelines. I loved finding out more about Canopy's history & relationships with Fera & Elixir, interweaved with her trying to handle the present with Phylum.
This book is definitely darker than book 1, Bonnibelle does an amazing job with the world building & her descriptions of the mutated animals & how they have evolved to cope with the changed environment are fantastic, special mention for the squirrels 😊
Bonnibelle really delivers on atmosphere & the sense of despair, depression & hopelessness that Canopy & Phylum are feeling, which has you routing for them the whole time.
Can't wait to see where the next book goes, that last line leaves us hanging!
I like how the PoV was that of Canopy. It was really good reading the story in her perspective.
I expected more of Phylum and Ash. I like the father and daughter love between them. Getting to read to 90% of the story before getting back to Ash wasn't so fun. It kept me intrigued though.
I preferred Phylum perspective, hence, I preferred book one. Canopy did so much for Love, including questionable decisions. I guess that's what makes a great story—the good, the bad and the ugly.
The ending was totally a good way to end a story. It wouldn't have ended any better than that.
The way book 2 was written, it takes you back to the events of book 1, which makes the story easy to follow without necessarily reading the book 1. I still highly recommend reading both.
Canopy was clearly hiding her trauma and sadness with her overly happy and excitable personality. I enjoyed seeing her perspective and it shows that what we see on the outside can be so different to what’s happening underneath. I feel terrible for Fera as she had to watch Canopy struggle while trying to get back to Phylum, she saw Canopy love someone else so much while she loved her 😢
Phylum I understand is being pulled in many different directions. He would rather save those he loves than himself so deeply but is torn between Ash and Canopy 🥹
I hope Phylum’s mother gets what she deserves soon, I hate her so much but she is a great villain
The ending was a massive cliffhanger and very sad, I can’t wait for the next one, I have so many questions!
Lots of exploration into trauma for both Canopy and Phylum. I loved seeing things through Canopy's eyes and diving into her past to learn more about her and the things that have shaped her character. I definitely developed a newfound respect for Mycelia, especially closer to the end.
There were some parts that felt like they were missing a couple details but otherwise, I really enjoyed this one!
Satisfying conclusion. Book 2 picks up where book 1 ended. It was nice to read the POV from Canopy and to see more of the world she comes from. While underground, the scenes were dark and dank. Surviving the day and coming out into the light is I hope something we can all do.
Thank you to the author for a free ARC copy. This voluntary review is my honest opinion.
Book 1 was good alone but this one was incredibleeee. As a sequel, it did the series the justice it deserved. It had me hooked with the drama, the flashbacks, how it was all done, was creative and well executed. I can tell there was so much thought put into this and I struggled to put it down when I picked it up, I kinda binged it. I felt the emotions as it went and got very attached to the characters, and angry at some, I remember cursing outloud at Phylums mother at one point lol. The growth I saw from Canopy was very much needed and important too, I felt I could relate to her
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book. After reading the first book last year I was eager to find out what happened next in this amazing dystopian world.
I must admit I found the first half of the book a little confusing, with the jumping between timelines. Canopy was also a very unreliable narrator with all of the things going on in her head and her desperation to get back to Phylum. It did really give a good insight into how unstable she was though. I did feel terrible for Fera, who just wanted to love her and help her move on.
The second half of the book was full on with so many crazy and awful things happening! (I don’t want to give anything away..) I have a new respect for Mycelia and how heartbroken she was. There were lots of twists and surprises towards the end as well, leading perfectly into a next book. I was hoping to get some of the story from Phylum’s perspective but maybe next time…
If you like a unique Dystopian world full of love and heartbreak, then I recommend starting with the first book Human Nature.
Thank You Bonnibelle Angelica for this ARC of Lost Time.
I really enjoyed book 1, Human Nature and I was so excited to jump into this one to get the answers that I wanted/needed from Human Nature, however all the flashbacks threw me for a loop, and I got lost with all the new characters.
One thing for sure that will never change is my love for Phylum, Canopy and Ash! I love their dynamics and the love that all share for each other and the found family that they are 🫶
