Remi is a stripper in Las Vegas with one thing on her mind: making enough money to pay her sister’s tuition at Caltech. One night, one of her VIP clients turns out to be Sebastian, the drummer for the famous rock band Loaded God Complex, and suddenly there’s room in her head for something else. The only problem? That "something" lives a state away.
I was expecting Sebastian to be your typical toxic rock star, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out he’s actually a cute, sensitive, thoughtful guy. Although, to be fair, he can be a little too much sometimes, just like he says himself. What I loved most about Remi is her personality and how down to earth and independent she is. Their personalities just click perfectly.
The chemistry between Remi and Sebastian is so good from the very beginning! The author does an amazing job of capturing the spark between them and all that tension during their first two encounters, and it’s so sweet and fun reading those early moments when they start texting each other without really knowing what to say yet. Plus, they look ridiculously good together.
This is a huge page turner! Once you start reading, you seriously can’t put it down. It’s true that from the beginning it’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen with James, but overall, the pacing is so well done that the story keeps you completely hooked and you totally lose track of time while reading. It also leaves you wanting to know more about all the other members of the band, so I’ll definitely be reading Little Monster and I’ll be eagerly waiting for Lucas’s book next!
Quick Summary: A power-passion-pulse rock star romance
My Review: After Midnight by Emberly Wyndham is the second book in the Loaded God Complex. It is listed as a spicy, contemporary rock star romance. TODAY (8/25/26) is its release. (Happy Release Day to After Midnight!!! 🎉)
About the Book: "One dance changes everything."
In My Own Words: The stage looks different for two people who share an explosive passion for and a real interest in each other. How will the currency of a private dance lead to each of their heart's fortune? For that matter, can they find something special together, despite the distance and the unforeseen challenges?
About the Characters: After Midnight features Remi Marino and Sebastian Harris. "He’s the drummer in a world-famous rock band. She’s a dancer in the city of sin."
💃 - "Remi Marino has spent years building a life she can control. Dance. Save money. Repeat."
- Remi's Dilemma: "For the first time in her life, Remi finds herself wondering what it might be like to stop living for everyone else and start hoping for something more."
🎸/🥁 - "Sebastian Harris [is] used to life on the road, sold-out crowds, and people who always want something from him. [He] is the kind of man who shows up, and he’s determined to prove it to her."
- Characteristics: Observant, decent, golden, cinnamon roll
Sebastian's Dilemma: "...a woman he can’t stop thinking about...seems determined to keep him at arm’s length."
🤘 - About the Hooks: This is the way! EW pulled me in 10 times over with these hooks, specifically. The why? It is totally because it was a rocker + dancer mashup. When the stereotypical expectation met these two, my heart somersaulted. (If you know, you know!)
1 -> "Private conversations turn into late-night video calls, and those video calls turn into weekend flights and pizza dates. And before either of them realizes what’s happening, they’re building something that feels like it could be real."
2 -> "...when the future they’ve started dreaming about suddenly feels within reach, they have to decide whether they’re brave enough to take a chance on the life—and the love—they both deserve."
About the Conflict: "...real life has a way of complicating even the best things."
The conflict arc was just the way I like it. This story had a sexy-crazy-cool vibe, but it also had tension, external pressures, internal doubt, and expectations to go along with it. There was a performance element that was layered in a way that I was not expecting. It made for the up and down action that I like in a rocker romance.
In the words of the publisher, here are some conflict points that may stir up reader interest:
💥 - "...the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore the connection growing between them."
💥 - "Sebastian is forced to confront the family wounds he’s spent years trying to ignore."
💥 - "her little sister’s future... [has] always mattered more than her own."
💥 - "An increasingly unsettling regular at Remi’s club refuses to respect boundaries..."
My Final Say: STOP the presses! This is the rock star romance I needed. What I want to know is can I have some Seb-ilicious play? No seriously, this hot & bothered rocker gets all the high fives I have to give. Remi was one lucky girl.
In the end, I will simply say that these two were able to get to the place of something they both deserved. Their journey was well worth it.
I need to join a rock star romance book club...STAT! (Can we talk about this?!?) If I say anything, I will say too much. Yes, I am on the verge of giving spoilers. (Help.)
After Midnight is rock star gold. ⚡
*** How soon can I get my hands on the audiobook? This has to be experienced in all the ways. It gets a read on repeat, favorites, and a golden heart book shelf listing, as far as I am concerned. ***
A Special Note: After reading this book, I already secured a copy of Little Monster. There was never any doubt that I would get down with it. Once I finish book 1, you better believe I will circle back around again to book 2. Let's go!!!
Other: Readers who enjoy rock bands, stories with entertainers on a heart-to-heart mission, and spicy and sweet scenarios will love this novel. (This story is soundtrack worthy and then some.)

🎸 Rockstar MMC 💃 Stripper FMC 🎰 Vegas & California 🌶️ All the Spice 💘 He Falls First 🚫 No 3rd Act Breakup 🐕 Golden Retriever x Black Cat
This is not your typical rockstar romance because Sebastian is NOT a red-flag rockstar. He is all green flags, all freaking day. This man is the ultimate golden retriever who is happier to see the wives, girlfriends, and dogs than he is to see groupies or hit up parties and strip clubs. Give him a beer, some Skittles, and a puppy, and he'll be happy for hours. 😂
Remi has mastered the fine art of living a double life. At work, she's a mirage. She's a fantasy just out of reach. She has boundaries, and she sticks to them, all while doing whatever it takes to put her little sister through CalTech because her family is struggling with other obligations.
On paper, these two seem like they'd work for obvious reasons. I mean…a rockstar and stripper. However, because they're completely opposite of what you'd EXPECT them to be, they work on a whole other level.
Remi and Seb connect and bond in a way neither of them realized was possible because they've never experienced anything quite like this before. Remi shows Seb that he is more than his money. That someone can see the man underneath all of it and love him for his genuine goodness. And Seb shows Remi that she is worthy of being put first. That while she's busy putting her sister first, it's okay for someone to put HER first, too. She doesn't have to carry everything alone. Someone can help her carry the load.
These two may have been a whirlwind, but living so far apart tested them almost immediately. They couldn't just rush into things, so they had to make the most of the time they managed to cobble together. Skateboarding, pizza, quality time, and getting to know each other naturally made their relationship feel genuine rather than rushed.
I also loved that they gave each other the strength to face things they'd been too scared to stand up to before. Things they either avoided or thought would break them were suddenly things they could face head-on and plow through. They never backed down. They just shifted course when they needed to. Even when sh!t hits the fan, they prove to the other that they're there. They're not going anywhere. The love and support they prove over and over to each other is beautiful. I just love these two so much!
I'm definitely going back to grab book 1, and I CANNOT wait for book 3 because this setup has my mind running in circles trying to figure out which direction it's going to go! 👀
Thank you, Emberly, NetGalley, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the ARC! 💕
I'm so glad the Loaded God Complex series has finally resumed with the release of this second book in the series. Ms. Emberly has clearly proven her command over writing captivating contemporary new adult romance after having penned cozy romantasies previously, and I'm glad she's finally ventured into this genre.
I'd been excited to read this book, what with a famous rockstar drummer and a club stripper being the main characters. I thought, well isn't that a typical pair? What, then, might make this story unique and interesting? And oh, I was definitely pleased with what I got!
Sebastian and Remi surprised me with who they turned out to be in this story. I had certain expectations of what a rockstar drummer and club stripper might be like in terms of their personalities and life views given the nature of their careers. They certainly did not fulfill those expectations in this book, and I was immensely glad for that because they were even better than I'd thought they would be. Suffice it to say that I loved Sebastian for being such a sweet cinnamon roll of a man, and Remi for being fully aware and proud of her skills as a pole dancer and never once felt ashamed of her line of work. How could she when it was honest work that earned her financial independence and the ability to support her sister's education?
But perhaps what I enjoyed the most about this story is its focus on the struggles of a long-distance relationship between two people who are just beginning their love affair. I find it highly relatable, as I have one such relationship with my husband of 22 years. The moments at the airport that define the point between being with him one second and then not being able to see him for the next six months the next second; the heartbreak of saying goodbye and seeing him go; and the need to just sit alone in your car for awhile to process the reality that he's left and it will be months again before you have him in your arms. All those I've experienced in the years I've been married to my husband, and seeing those same experiences on paper just validated my own. Being separated from the one you love the most is never easy nor pleasant, and the book captured that perfectly.
I'm so thrilled and thankful that I was among the early readers of this book by having been granted an advanced review copy. I write this honest review fully voluntarily.
For years, Remi has been a successful dancer, building a life for herself and saving up to pay her younger sister’s college tuition. She’s got her regulars at the club she’s used to seeing, but one night, a new customer, who she’s been told is part of a rock band, catches her eye. As she takes him to a private room, she realizes he’s nothing like the usual crowd, and she does something she’s never done before, she gives him her number, and her real name. After days of texting that only serve to confirm their mutual connection, she embarks in a long distance relationship, savoring every trip he makes to Vegas to see her, as well as her trips to LA. As much as they come from different worlds, she can’t help but picture him in hers, and when one of her regulars takes things a bit too far, there’s only one person she wants to turn to.
Sebastian may be a successful drummer and rockstar, but although he’s always surrounded by so many people, he’s lonely. Aside from his band mates and their partners, it seems people only want to get close to him to get something out of him, which is why Remi seems like a breath of fresh air. Insisting on paying her own way, and not wanting anything from him besides his company, he finds himself falling hard and fast. In a world that has only taken from him, he’s finally found something worth keeping.
I received an early copy of this book from @Netgalley and I really enjoyed it. The dual POV in this story made it so much better, and I loved watching both Seb and Remi fall. Remi is so used to doing everything for everyone else, without even being asked, that having someone show up for her time and time again is overwhelming at first, but once she lets Seb in, we see how perfect a match they both are. While she comes to him with no expectations, it allows him to fully open up to her, and watching them build something real was everything. I loved that we got to see more of the band, and I can’t wait for Lucas’ story.
After Midnight really took me by surprise and I absolutely loved Remi and Seb’s story ! I have been in the lookout for rockstar romances and, even though this wasn’t too focused on the stardom and the lifestyle, I appreciated the little insights we got.
I particularly liked how Remi’s profession wasn’t frowned upon or glamorised. We were shown what the job meant to her and how it enriched her life in more than one way but how it also still is a very dangerous environment to work in, even with all the safeguards in place. I appreciated how Seb was supportive of her continuing to work at the club and trusted her judgement and her independence, whilst also quietly supporting her and the dreams she had for the future.
I think there were a few subtle points made regarding how supporting your family can look like - doing it out of a desire to lessen their burden and making sure they achieve their goals and sharing your success, whilst also looking at the other side of the coin where there is an expectation of financial support that is rooted in a sense of obligation and emotional blackmail. I felt really sad for Seb’a familial situation but it was good to see him grow and stand up to his dad.
This was a very easy read but packed with emotion, tenderness and cute or spicy moments. I loved their dates and the playfulness and ease around them, the quiet support and openness, as well as the passion and love they had for each other. There is an element of found family that is well integrated and I am looking forward to exploring the stories of kore of the characters introduced in this book!
Finding new authors and worlds to get lost in is one of my favourite things about arc reads and I’m really excited to have come across Emberly and the Loaded God Complex series !
Thank you Emberly and NetGalley for this advanced copy !
I expected to like this book, because I really enjoyed the first book in the series and Emberly Wyndham is one of my must-read authors. After Midnight still blew me away. I loved it. Sebastian is so adorable when he's first trying to talk to Remi, I was instantly hooked on their relationship. Remi is the perfect match for him, and a great character in her own right. The story takes the rockstar x stripper trope and twists it. Neither character is exactly what you would expect from their profession. Seb is shy and adorable, without any of the rockstar prima donna drama. Remi is working to put her sister through college, and enjoying what she does. I love that the author doesn't treat exotic dancing like something to be ashamed of, and acknowledges the physical work it takes without making a big deal out of it. Seb and Remi's relationship is one of the healthier ones I've seen written, especially in a rockstar romance. They genuinely help each other be the best of themselves.
Highly recommended for readers how enjoy spicy rockstar romances with healthy relationships. This one can easily be read as a standalone, but you'll probably want to read the first book anyway. It's been fun following the band over the two books so far, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Golden retriever meets black cat, and somehow it just WORKS. 😂 I loved how the author was able to describe the kind of chemistry that makes you remember what it feels like when you first meet someone and suddenly you just… can’t get enough of them. You want to be around them constantly, soak up every second, and somehow being apart for five minutes feels like a personal tragedy. 😂
Remi and Seb come from completely different worlds, but their backgrounds are surprisingly similar. Her a stripper from Las Vegas, him the lead drummer of the very famous band called Loaded God Complex. They’re both the kind of people who are always there for everyone else—supporting, helping, giving, and never asking for anything in return. So when someone finally comes along who wants to be there for them simply because they want to be with them… watching them figure out how to accept that was honestly so sweet. 🥹
And these two go through all sorts of challenges and dangerous situations together, which only makes their bond stronger. Through all the chaos, Seb proves over and over again why he’s just a walking green flag.
And now I’m very much looking forward to the next book because… WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH LUCAS?! 👀😂
After Midnight is the second book in the Loaded God Complex series. Sebastian is the drummer in the rock band Loaded God Complex (LGC), Remi is an exotic dancer in Vegas. Did I mention he is in LA? I wasn’t sure how a long distance relationship would work given that both characters had established lives in their respective towns. But it worked. And beautifully. Sebastian is a great cinnamon roll character! Remi has her principles and they are not going to be easy to knock down. Slowly she lets Sebastian in and the chemistry flies.
They both have things to work through, hard things, but as the book unfolds everything comes to a satisfying conclusion. She doesn’t get in the way of his emotional journey with his dad, but supports him as he goes through it. He doesn’t get in the way of her issues, but is definitely there in a big way when she needs him. So good!
This is a spicy book to be sure. There is a word or two that tripped me up, that I am not used to seeing in contemporary romance (that is not erotic), but the trip-up was a millisecond each time I saw it. It in no way detracted from the story, just threw me for a hot second. It definitely did not affect my rating. This is a 5-star read all the way through!
I expected to like this book because I enjoy Emberly’s writing. But this one surprised me by how much it blew me away. I had never read a rock star romance before—I usually stick to fantasy romance—but now I feel like I have to go back and read Dex and Nora’s book.
After Midnight is sweet + spicy to perfection. Remi and Seb both feel real and well developed and easy to root for. There’s only care and respect between them, without contrived interpersonal drama. Yet, the pacing of the book keeps the story moving, with just the right amount of tension carrying the reader through the “will they won’t they” of the early relationship and all the way to the two of them figuring out how to stay together. There was also a perfectly executed hurt/comfort trope, and I ATE THAT SHIT UP.
There were a couple of little inconsistencies that I noticed—LA natives aren’t going to be eating Tex Mex, and the kind of teenager who could get an acceptance to Caltech isn’t going to be griping about biology. But it was easy to ignore these and get on with the story.
If you like cinnamon roll/golden retriever/sweet relationships with extra spice, this one’s for you!
I received an advance review copy from the author and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Sebastian is the gorgeous, quiet, sensitive drummer of Loaded God Complex. He hates the Las Vegas weather and just wants to get back home to Los Angeles—at least, that’s how he felt until he spotted Mirage.
Mirage is her stage name because, to the men who frequent the strip club, she’s just that—a mirage. She’s not supposed to be real. If she weren’t so stunningly beautiful, she’d probably be invisible.
While performing on the pole, Mirage locks eyes with Sebastian across the room. She can see plenty of girls vying for his attention, but he only seems interested in her.
These two start out by exchanging text messages, and it’s all very innocent and sweet at first. But things get steamy pretty quickly, and when these two finally get together, let’s just say it’s hot, hot, hot!
This is a fast-moving love story, and I absolutely loved Sebastian. He’s sweet, kind, and incredibly romantic. Once he realizes he’s in love, he’s completely all in.
The ending was wonderful, with all the loose ends tied up neatly. I’m giving this book five stars and highly recommend it. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
I always love a good rockstar romance, so I knew off the bat this wasn't going to be a miss for me. This is a golden retriever rockstar x independent dancer rockstar romance that, even being a little slow in the beginning, I easily became very invested by the first few chapters. It felt a lot like love at first sight with how enamored they both were in each POV. I loved how the author never diminished Remi's (FMC) job as a dancer. I did predict the conflict Remi eventually had at the club, but Seb (MMC) never had an issue with her as a stripper and why would he when that's how he meets her? I would have loved to see Remi integrate herself more into his friend group for a found family trope, but I absolutely adore that she was so close with her sister. As for Seb, I was hoping for a better resolution with his family, but between his mom, friends & Remi, I think he ends up with the amazing support he needs in his music career. I loved reading this kind of light, spicy rockstar and would enjoy more books about the rest of the band!
I received this book from the Author as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this.
I was already a huge fan of Emberlys writing, so when she opened up a ARC for this Rockstar Romance I jumped on it so quickly. And honestly I do not regret it, I devoured this book so quickly. Read this in 2 sittings.
🎸Rockstart MMC 💃Stripper FMC 📱Long distance relationship ❤️He falls first Hot...HOt...HOTTTT Book 2 in the Loaded God Complex Series 🌶🌶🌶🌶
No spoilers here but I will say this may be about a Stripper and a Rockstar but its not as hard as the cover makes it seem. Its actually quite soft and cute. But that does not mean the spice is light 🥵
Following Remi and Sebastian relationship sent hearts to my eyes 😍. Navigating a long distance relationship and bringing down barriers really can really make you to relate to the characters and their story. I am looking forward to book 3 and getting to know the rest of the band. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Disclosure: If this book was provided as an Advance Review Copy (ARC), it was received in exchange for an honest review. Receiving an ARC never influences my rating or opinions.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first book by Emberly Wyndham and I cannot wait to read more of them. Her writing style had me absolutely HOOKED.
Okay, now into the actual book. I loved getting to see Remi go from completely closed off to such a lover girl. She deserves everything and so much more. Her relationship with her sister was so sweet to read and as a big sister, i understood her desire to anything for her.
Sebastien is the cutest Golden Retriever I have ever read. This type of MMC’s are usually not my favourite, but he is such a lover boy it is hard not to.
Getting to read both of them work through their flaws nad road blocks to put each other first was beautiful.
I will need to go back and read the first in the series and cannot wait for the third!
I binged After Midnight in one sitting. The saying “just one more chapter” is the absolute definition of this book. I finished it at 1 a.m. because I simply couldn’t put it down. From the very first moment the FMC and MMC met, the chemistry was thick and electric, you could feel the connection between them. Sebastian is a golden retriever rockstar who you just can’t help but smile at with his boyish energy. Remi is a stripper who is so fiercely independent, and you can actually feel her walls slowly crumbling page by page. I became so invested in their relationship and was rooting for them throughout the entire book. The book definitely delivers on the spice factor, but it also has such a well written plot. I was genuinely sad when I finished it. I could have easily read another 300 pages of these two!
For two years I have been waiting for this book to finally arrive on my kindle. And when I finally got the notification my pulse went through the roof!
Ever since Little Monster, Dex and Nora's story, I have been absolutely hooked and couldn't wait to read more about one of my favorite rock bands, Loaded God Complex.
Even if I hated the wait but !OMG! the wait was SO worth it.
Sebastian and Remi's story is just ... Everything I needed right now. It's pure heart melt with a lot of spice. It goes down like the best chocolate you've ever had. Absolutely delicious.
If you've made the mistake and haven't gotten yourself hooked on the LHC books yet, now is the time.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of After Midnight!
After Midnight was SO much sweeter and softer than I expected in such a good way. Don’t let this fool you, there’s tons of spice as well but Sebastian and Remi’s relationship was so so so sweet. I absolutely love that there was no 3rd act breakup as well, they were both head over heels from the beginning! If you’re looking for a sweet & spicy rockstar romance, this is the perfect book for you! A short review simply because I could not find all the words to describe how well this book is written!! It’s one of those books every romance enjoyer NEEDS to read.
After Midnight by Emberly Wyndham is a captivating rock-star romance with amazing chemistry, a sweet, sensitive hero, and a strong, independent heroine. I loved that Sebastian wasn’t the typical toxic rock star, and Remi’s determination to support her sister made her incredibly easy to root for. Their connection feels natural from the start, especially those adorably awkward texts and late-night conversations that slowly turn into something more. The chemistry is fantastic, the pacing keeps the pages flying, and the story left me wanting to know much more about the rest of Loaded God Complex. A fun, addictive read and a fantastic continuation of the series! 4.5 stars.
You would think that a book that involves and rock star and a stripper would go someplace totally different than what Remi and Sebastian really are. Yes, Remi was a stripper in Vegas but she was working to pay for her sister’s tuition to college. Sebastian was the drummer for Loaded God Complex which was a famous rock band and he is actually a sensitive guy. The thing is these two clicked and shared chemistries that couldn’t be denied and Sebastian learned that Remi wasn’t after anything from him making her even more desirable. They dealt with their long-distance romance and made their way to their HEA.
I'm obsessed with Seb and Remi!! I love me a good instalove story with people who seem too different for each other, but actually have a lot in common! The chemistry between these too was off the charts! I adored how they each were worried about in the beginning about blowing the relationship, how they made each other blush...it was all too precious! And the spice?! 🥵🥵 I was needing a cool bath myself after that scene. 😉(And they weren't even in the same room yet!?!) Anyways, another smash hit from Wyndham. She's amazing, and I will be binge reading her catalogue soon. ❤️😘.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Obsessed is an understatement! I devoured this so quickly it was near impossible for me to put down! Remi and Sebs love story is one of my favorites this year! The way he cherished her and cared for her and the way she was able to relax and be herself with him was just so raw and beautiful to read. I also loved how this book truly show cased certain aspects of long distance relationship. Showing the ache and longing one faces while being away from their partner but also the joy and excitement when reuniting. Absolutely loved and look forward to reading more from the author!
This was an excellent story. I fell in love with Remi and Sebastian so fast. He’s a drummer in a band, she’s a part time stripper so she can get the money she needs for her sisters tuition. He happens to come into the club one night while she’s dancing. I loved the way they connected. And Sebastian wasn’t the kind of drummer you’d expect. He was sweet and kind. Not the groupie chasing, drug and alcohol doing kind of guy. And these two connected in such an amazing way. I loved their conversations and their moments. This was an amazing read.
What an enjoyable read. And being in my favorite genre, rockstar, helps. The way the relationship between Seb and Remi developed was just so special. They certainly were there for each other. And the snacks that they ate were making me hungry. LOL. They each had their own demons and they worked on them together. All I can say is READ THIS BOOK. Thank you BookSprout for the advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I LOVED this story. Remi and Sebastian were so different, yet so similar. I loved their characters and their backstories. The smoldering chemistry between them was so good! I liked this author's academia series, but I think I like this story more. I could relate to their feelings and circumstances, even if I couldn't literally relate. The writing was excellent, and the spice was great (and not brief :D).
Enjoyed the book. It was a little long for my taste and there were scenes that definitely could have been much shorter. That being said, it is an entertaining story and finding out what happens with some of the characters from. Little Monster was great. It's well written, lovely setting shared by Vegas and California, and definitely interesting characters. I do recommend it.
It took me a while to adjust to reading Emberly Wyndham's work set in the real world as opposed to her fantastical world of magic. However, once I did, I fell in love with Seb and Remi. Fast. I loved their patience and honesty with each other. Their acceptance and respect for each other. I loved their healthy communication and I can't wait for the next book!
"After Midnight" had me kicking my feet, giggling, and smiling the whole way through. I'm not usually a contemporary reader, but every now and again, I get lucky with gems like this. I was hoping a a bit more dark elements were involved especially at the end, but it was still a great Rockstar Romance. 10/10
I LOVED the first book in this series, so I had high hopes for this one… but I’m 50 pages in and I’m bored. 😩 The chemistry and substance just aren’t there for me, and I’m not really buying the connection between these two. And our MMC? I hate to say it, but he’s kind of pathetic so far. 😬 I’m struggling to care what happens next.
This rockstar x dancer romance had such good chemistry and made me giggle and kick my feet. I saw some of the conflict/ plot twists coming BUT I think it was still executed very well. If you like extra spicy golden retriever and black cat romance, family conflict and yearning, you would love this one. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
