When handsome California surf god Lincoln Savage suddenly rolls into Ocean Beach like a rogue wave, shy beauty Simone Bianchi’s foundation is shaken. No longer under the thumb of her domineering father, she’s made a simple quiet life for herself and her fluffy fourteen pound Havanese pup running a surf shop in her hometown of OB. Long ago she gave up her dreams for a future with Linc.
But now the notorious lead singer of the Dirt Dogs has returned, and Simone is reluctant to admit that she’s still vulnerable to his killer dimpled smile and easy charm. She finds that although she’s stowed away the mementos, it hasn’t been as easy to erase the memories of their epic summer love.
It seems he hasn’t forgotten, either.
Is the recording contract he’s offering merely a pretense?
Or does he have something more in mind?
Does he really believe that they can just pick up where they left off, despite all the bad luck and heartache?
And is she willing to risk everything again for one last chance at love?

My Thoughts - Story I can’t even express the full emotions this book brought out in me. As always, Ms. Mankin’s writing is flawless – she has the ability to keep the words flowing smoothly where you aren’t stumbling over what is happening in the story --- I can definitely compare this to a big screen movie playing in my subconscious with all the details perfected.
And the characters? Perfecto – The development is spot on and yes, you will be pissed at them. They make bad mistakes and because this book spans 15 years, the first chance of romance Linc and Simone have is a whirlwind and still very immature and childish. Their insecurities get in the way of building a lasting love.
But do they really forget that love? That is where Ms. Mankin has the ability to flip-flop this story from the past to the present and give these characters a second chance.
Beautiful – cute – heartbreaking and soul searching! You will fall in love with the secondary characters and want to read more about them by the time you are done with this one!
Definitely a perfect book to read on the beach while watching the rip roaring hotties on their surfboards.
Re-Cap Linc and Simone had a beautiful love affair with too many obstacles that keep getting in the way of them being together. Simone’s father is domineering while her mother is emotionally non-existent. They fight to make a go of it – sneaking around but everything changes once Linc and his band gets an opportunity to go on the road. Their relationship gets strained and Simone must make a radical decision that could cost her the love of her life.
Span over a decade and Linc is back in town to do a “last show” with his band. But Linc has other things on his mind. He wants Simone and will stop at nothing to win her back.

I really enjoy a well written second chance contemporary romance. The good ones run you through all of the emotional highs and lows of a love story, usually twice, past and present, then after you have been run through an emotional tornado, leave you completely satisfied with the HEA of your hero and heroine at the end. Add the serious surfing scene on the California coast and the temptations of rock-and-roll stardom, you have OUTSIDE (Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances, #1) by Michelle Mankin.
Summer love brings together a surfer boy and a shy beauty who loves the ocean and watching the surfers. Lincoln Savage wants to be a pro-tour surfer and Simone Bianchi has plans for college in the fall, but nothing, not even a domineering father cannot keep these two apart.
When Linc has a tragic accident, he joins his cousin and friends in their band, Dirt Dogs. When the band goes on their first tour, Simone has broken away from her family and goes with them. The beginning of fame, insecurities and misunderstandings break up their young love.
Fifteen years later, Simone is still living in O.B. and owns a small surf shop. Linc is back in town for good and wants his one true love back. Can they move past the hurt they inflicted on each other all those years ago and learn to trust and love each other again?
I really liked Lincoln and Simone. They had chemistry that ignited off the page and behaved realistically in both emotions and actions. Ms. Mankin’s use of a rock band combined with the California surf scene added uniqueness to the story. The sex scenes were hot and appropriate to each time period in the H/h lives, young love and mature.
I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
In the past I have received ARC’s for some of Michelle’s books and I really liked her style of writing and the storylines are always very interesting. This one I just saw and did on my own & I am glad I did.
Simone is a GREAT character. She is sweet and independent and I just thought she was perfect.
Lincoln is beautifully flawed and sexy. The two of them had great chemistry.
I liked how we started out in present day & then went back in time for the whole middle part of the book and then came back to present day.
My only complaint is I felt it was too long. I was interested the entire time but there were times I wanted the pace to pick up or maybe condense some of it.
Sorry but wasnt a fan of OUTSIDE. It was slow, flat, level with nothing that snagged my attention. Lincoln is a rock star surfer who is back in town 15 yrs after he broke the heart of Simone. There romance was a few weeks long but yet they still havent moved on.
The book starts in the present, then we go to the past and see the reason why he breaks her heart and then to the conclusion of his attempts to win her back.
Personally, again this is only my opinion, but the characters were lame, I am sorry still pining after a couple week romance? I found no redeeming characteristics in either Lincoln on Simone. The cousin was my favorite character.

listen to the whole thing. Get to the end.
Hear the singing.
So, I've been a fan of Kai and Wen for what feels like forever at this point. They nail the characters every single time. They nail the emotions and the chemistry and the voices. They do not disappoint in this book.
Linc and Moana. Well, this is one story I wasn't expecting. Second chances are a favorite of mine. And this is one epic second chance.
It's been fifteen years since Moana has seen Linc. And the last time she saw him wasn't a moment she wants to remember.
This story is told in three parts: the present, the past, and the present. It flows nicely. I enjoyed seeing the two reconnect in the present, but it's the story of their past that has you falling in love.
So, uh, can someone point me in the direction of the hot surfers? And maybe the rock gods while you're at it. Either will do just fine.
Outside is the first book I have read by Michelle Mankin I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
Ok so I’ve just finished Outside and honestly my first thought was
15 YEARS YOU FUCKING TOSSER!!!!!
Followed by shortly by
15 YEARS YOU STUPID COW!!!!
This book is ultimately a very sweet second chance love story but honestly I wanted to knock the lead characters heads together!!!
This book starts in present day then flashes back to 15 years previous and then back to present day.
Linc comes across as incredibly sweet but he does have some serious asshole moments and I’m not sure if I want to hug him or slap him!!!
Mona (Simone) is a doormat, she allows everyone in her life to railroad her. Now I get that its hinted at her being a naturally submissive person but I just really wanted her to stand up for herself!!!
This is a beautiful love story and the idea that even 15 years later they still love each other is lovely.
BUT!!!! What on earth made them wait 15years; I mean that’s a very long time!!!
I felt intensely sad for Mona, she really never moved on from Linc whereas he’s been living the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle.
There is a lot of underlying plot that is mentioned i/e Patch and Karen, Ash & Linc, Mona’s parents’ divorce, Mona’s money problems. I really felt like I was missing something and twice I checked that this was a standalone rather than a book in the middle of a series.
The sex in this book is intense and passionate but Linc, dude, ever heard of foreplay???
I spent the whole of this book torn between thinking the story was lovely and thinking it was all 15years too late!!!
In the end I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a cute beachy, romance.
A $3.99 Sports Romance bestseller on sale for $.99 sale link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YLPMB8E Enter the contest to win $100.00 gift card on Author Michelle Mankin's Facebook page Outside is like no other book I have read in that it is about young love and second chances and the story spans 15 yrs! Wow! I was caught up immediately in the beginning of Linc and Simone and how they had not seen or talked in 15 years and yet how even after all this time Simone is still mad and hurt. What happened? The story starts in the present but then goes back to the past where it all began and this is where you will fall in love with the young Linc and Simone and the relationship that grows between the two. The writing is flawless and smooth and the character development is off the charts! Linc and Simone are both so young and have so much to deal with that forces them beyond their love for one another. Both characters struggle with insecurities that can easily make or break any couple. This book was not at all what I expected, it goes beyond a romance and will take you by surprise! I learned a lot about surfing and as I read this book I could feel the sand in my toes and imagine what it was like to crush those waves! A great Beach summer book and 5 big stars! Although the rock-star/surfer life (Lincoln), seemed glamorous to Simone, it was detrimental to her and destroyed every dream she had. It didn't seem fair that Lincoln got to live all of his dreams while disappointing Simone in every way possible. Is it possible that a 15 year separation can give them a new start on their bumpy journey to true love?
Good rock star read-before the fame, mostly. Good romance, although second chance with fifteen years in between seemed like a really long time to have not moved on, especially on the part of Simone. But I did enjoy the read! 4 stars!
I loved this story, I really did. It sucked me in and I rode that wave all the way to shore. I thought it was a really good story line. I liked the way that it is in three parts - Present, Past and Present. It ties everything together well, unlike some books which can become confusing when the jump back and forth, this worked perfectly.
I liked all the characters, they were very real and I felt their happiness and pain as I read along. I fell in love with Lincoln Savage, gorgeous surfer rock god and lead singer of the Dirt Dogs, that he is! Simone Bianchi was sweet, she is young when she falls for Linc, and as with life nothing is easy, but they really do love each other. I so wanted them to have a happy ever after..... but I will not say whether they do or not, you will need to read the book to find out! They start out quite young in the book, but grow up, which I liked, as I felt I really knew them well.
This is a definite must read, loved it and I will definitely be reading more of Michelle Mankin's books now.
Good story. Kept me engaged, but some parts of the story felt off. The fifteen year gap was definitely one of them and the way the story was told. It started with the present, but then it geared back to the past which was the majority of the book. Then of course the conclusion. The reason for their break up was anti-climactic especially since the Hero claimed to love the heroine then when she didn't do what he wanted, goes off and does something stupid.
Outside (Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances #1) the first in Michelle Mankins’ latest series and happens to also be my first Michelle Mankins read. I happy to say that I am mightily impressed. This second chance love story is set in a beachside community in California featuring a surfer/rock star Lincoln Savage and Simone “Mona” Bianchi, a surf shop owner/college student. The job descriptions reflect the characters in their past and present as that corresponds with how this story is delivered, in three parts covering a 15 year range between the two first meeting and present time. I loved how the story unfolded; moving from present to past and back again. We also get the story through both Mona’s and Linc’s perspectives which is one of my favorite to experience a story.
Part two is where all the good juicey angst builds, the forming of Linc’s and Mona’s connection. They experience an insta love that is so easy to feel. It's delightful seeing the potential relationship build as they are tested by both internal struggles and the circumstances of their lives.
Mona had my heart from the beginning, in everything from her shy innocence, to feeling the pressure of having a dictator of a father. She also has an incredibly weak mother so its really wonderful to see her break the cycle and become as brave as she became. From past to present, the author did an amazing job showing the basis for Mona’s distrust and reluctance to allow Linc back in her heart.
Linc, well I wasn't so sure of him. While I loved watching them fall in love and loved how protective he felt over Mona, he just wasn't the man we thought he was. But I’ll give him props for recognizing his fail and for working so very hard on their reunion.
“You saw it in me back then. It took me a lot longer to see it myself, but that guy is still here, Mona. I’m sitting right beside you. I never went away. I just went into hibernation for far too fucking long.”
Amen to that! Fifteen years is far too long to give a girl breathing room.
Outside is a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying read. The writing is so smooth, the dialogue is smart, and the story, Mona’s and Linc’s struggle, keeps the reader interested. This is especially true when we were taken through their history and we are essentially waiting for the other shoe to drop. I highly recommend Outside and plan to dig into Ms. Mankins vast catalog.
4.5 stars
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The love in this book is intense, taking you through soaring highs and crumbling lows.
You need to know that most of this story occurs in a flashback. I wasn’t totally prepared for that turn of events, so it took me a little offguard. Regardless, the story flows well and I really enjoyed the characters. Linc’s an up and coming surfer and seeming playboy, while Simone is a good kid who is really just trying to keep her head down and get through college without pissing off her dad.
From the moment that they first meet there’s a charge in the air. They’re pulled to one another like the current in the ocean – but will they get swept away or pulled under?
I could have killed Linc for about half of this book…and there was such an impending doom and dark cloud covering the flashback I had to read through my fingers. I felt that I couldn’t totally enjoy all of the really good moments because as the reader you know it’s going to turn to shit. Of course, the sky clears, letting you breathe deeply after what feels like eternity, leaving you feeling exhausted and complete. *swoon*
There’s a tinge of a love triangle, but not enough for me to really call it one, so we’re good there. I loved Adult Linc about twelve million times more than teenage Linc. He’s possessive and all alpha male, but ready to throw his heart and pride on the line (and anything else required) to get Simone back for good. YES YES YES. As Simone struggles with how to respond to Linc’s reinsertion into her life, I could totally feel her pain. Fifteen years is a long time to pine for a lost love, and she’s never truly dealt with the pain of losing him. The memories crash over her as she yearns to change the tide of her future…LOVED the ending!
Get ready for some sexy scenes, broken hearts, and kisses that will tilt your world. This is a beautiful second chance love story full of broken promises but a lot of love. 4.25 stars!
As one of my go-to authors, Michelle Mankin continues to deliver books that warm my heart and make me smile. She has the ability to take a second chance love story and give it the freshness that I seek. Successfully combining the exhilarating world of surfing with the sexiness of Rock and Roll: Outside is every reader's dream come true!
Simone Bianchi thought she had found forever love with Lincoln Savage. But that was 15 years ago and since then, her life has been quiet with her constant companion Chulo and her surf shop in her beloved Ocean Beach to fill her days. And now Linc is back and he wants nothing more than to claim his 'Mona' once again. Under a ruse to have her sign papers to work together on a song they co-wrote all those years ago, Linc will stop at nothing to convince Mona that they have another chance.
Oh my. This book is just so beautiful. The way the author describes the sights and sounds of Ocean Beach, you can almost smell the breeze coming off the water. We get both the past and present lives of our couple and watch as the love they thought was meant to be as young lovers, get decimated by some rash decisions and foolish words.
I love the way Lincoln is so sure of himself. His passion, his want, his need for his woman was off the charts moving. Getting the more mature and self-assured Lincoln is just what Mona needs. It's all we can do to hope that she sees how he truly is her HEA and the missing piece to the broken puzzle she has remained all these years later. With wonderful secondary characters in Karen and Ash and even a lovestruck Patrick, this book has it all. The author even touches upon the sometimes tragic consequences of a rock and roll life which gives this story the realism she is known for.
This is a love story that is truly touching. I devoured every page and then went back and read it again. I'm hopeful that some loose ends that intrigued me in this story will be explored further in future books in the series. This is a great crew that you will fall hard for, just as I did.
This was the first book I had read by Michelle Mankin and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have a big love for books with sexy rock stars, throw in the location most of the book is set in, at the ocean, and I will admit that I have an obsession with surfers. So this was the perfect trifecta for me.
This is a story of true love and soul mates. This story starts in the present when Linc Savage returns to Mona's hometown after 15 long years. She's very leery of why he's back and immediately puts her guard up. It's obvious that she was hurt deeply by him.
".....The fact that you're a big rock star doesn't impress me. I know who you really are Lincoln Savage. I've seen you at your best and I've survived you at your worst. So, don't think you can come here and play games with me.
The author then takes us back in time and tells us their story. I loved their story, almost a love at first sight. But as time goes on, the circumstances of events has you on the edge of your seat just wondering when the bottom will fall out. There were times I was really pissed at Lincoln and wanted to slap him. Did I understand? At times, yes and other times, absolutely not. I wanted to scream at him to open his eyes and see what he was sacrificing! And then my heart broke in two for Mona.
So we learn why the 15 years passed and why Linc is back and fighting for her. And I fell in love with Ash as well. He was such a kind, considerate, helpful guy and you could see that he truly cares about both of them.
"You're a smart guy, Linc but a lot of the time you have your head up your ass and don't see what's standing in front of you. Open your eyes. Get your shit together. You love her. Be the type of guy she needs you to be. I'm not asking you, I'm telling you."
And I hope that the next book in the series might follow up with some of the things that were left hanging. I highly recommend this book. You will fall in love with the whole gang in this story.
I was gifted a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I mean what more do you need than Hot surfer, hot Rock star, and a killer second chance romance.
I think Mona and Linc had some crazy chemistry. You could tell from page one that this couple was special. They were soul mates. Even though it took years and major heartache to get these two to the right place. There was no denying they were meant to be.
I loved loved Mona.. Despite everything she went through I loved how her character was strong, smart and continued to have this special light with in her.
Linc, yes you are sexy and surf / rock god.. but you pissed me off in this book. He could not see what was right in front of him. Some of his demons were just powerful. He never felt good enough, and that was most of his downfall. But I adore him.. I loved watching him battle his demons and fight for what he wanted.
Their story is sweet, crazy, sexy, and at times heartbreaking. But this book is definitely a must read for all you Second Chance book lovers. Or just books were the two main characters have major chemistry. This is definitely a must read.
What made the experience of listening to Outside the most enjoyable? The beautiful writing combined with the amazing narration made this book one of my favorites.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Outside? I absolutely loved the song at the end of the book. It had me crying.
What does Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book? Kai and Wen are the best narrators I have ever listened to. They have truly spoiled me on other narrators. No one can compare to their amazing and beautiful storytelling. They bring so much emotion to the story it's hard not to feel like you're a part of the story yourself.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be? A second chance at love.
Any additional comments? I can't say how much I love Michelle Mankin's books. Her writing is beautifully lyrical and Kai and Wen's narration fits perfectly with this story. A match made in heaven.
"You're wrong. I haven't forgotten. I can't forget any of it."
Outside is a powerfully turbulent journey for a young couple whose immediate and devastating attraction and love for one another burns hot, but eventually tumbles into the depths. Their past hurts and the damage they carry creates a situation in which neither is completely ready to open one's self completely to the other. After 15 years apart, can the two finally open their hearts fully to one another? Will they find their second chance? Or will the past events and betrayal be too much to bring these two together?
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
All reviews I read are very positive. Not my kind of book. The characters dialog is childish. They break up and he spend 15 years away making a great life, while she stayed apparently living with his memories. When he returns it takes very little before she’s back to loving him. Who cares he lived a great life with plenty of woman. But they only wanted to sleep with a star, so after 15 years he got tired of it and went looking for her. I’m not reading the rest of the books in this series. I guess I just do to like this author style but it looks like other people did so give it a try.
Just......no! I started this book with high hopes, even liking it but then it flashed back to the past and I'm supposed to buy that the two had this intense connection after just weeks together then flash forward to 15 years later and the hero throws everything away to get the girl back and she's been waiting for him. Yep don't buy it and the chemistry felt forced as well as all the beach themed analogies "I only want you on my board". Ugggggggg is it over yet???? I don't think my eyes can roll anymore without getting stuck.
I'm a huge fan of Michelle Mankin and Outside is just another example of why!! This book was the first in the Rockstars, Surf and Second Chances series and it was absolutely fabulous. The storyline was solid and had tons of twists and turns that had me hooked from beginning to end. The characters were well thought out and had amazing chemistry. Looking forward to more books in this series and more by Michelle!!
Fifteen years ago, Simone and Lincoln fell in love, then fell apart. Now, a rock star, he's back to try and win her heart again. This is a long story, and I wasn't sure if I could cope, but Mona and Linc mattered. They both made mistakes, both needed the other to be strong enough, but they got there in the end. Well-written with just a few typos, my one real criticism is about Patch and what happened. It is mentioned on and off, but the lack of detail is frustrating. Overall, very enjoyable.
"Outside," the one on the right yelled to the other as a steep wave rose and curled over him. "What does that mean:" I asked Linc. "That there's a good wave, a surf-able wave coming up behind you. Up to you to turn around and take it or get out of the way before it crashes over you."
Outside opens up with Simone Bianchi performing at her weekly gig at the Tiki Bar in Ocean Beach. But she senses someone in the crowd is there. And she's right-Linc Savage the love of her life is back in town after fifteen years. Why would he come back after all these years of touring with the Dirt Dogs his band? Their initial meeting is bittersweet. They ended on such a sour note and they haven't talked in all that time. But Linc has an agenda for coming back to town. He tells Mona (his nickname for her) that he has had an offer for one of the songs they wrote together to be sold to a movie. It means hundreds of thousands of dollars for them. Simone's family was wealthy so she may not need the money but he wants her to consider it. But he doesn't tell her his real reason for coming back.
While Simone doesn't have anyone special in her life, she has come to depend on a hot, gorgeous, much younger guy named Patrick. There may be a ten year difference in their ages, but he is a mature for his age and wants nothing more than to be with Simone. Unfortunately, he chooses to tell her his feelings at the same time as Linc is back in town.
Most of the story is told from both their POV's and is about their past. How they met and both were instantly attracted to the other. Simone's father was a control freak and her mom was an alcoholic. Linc was a champion surfer and that's where his future was-until music accidentally changed the course of his life. They took on the world to be together, only to have it ripped apart and for Linc to betray Simone in the worst way possible. Their lives took different paths, but neither made any permanent relationships with anyone else.
"You're the one who shut me out," she said bowing her head in defeat. "Maybe I did. Maybe I have. But maybe that was because I knew where you and I were headed all along."
So much of the writing is about Linc and Mona's past. Towards the end of the book when we brought back to the present I needed to feel that 15 years was not long enough to rob this couple of what they once had. But here is where I felt the disconnect. Linc had issues with booze and certainly partied with his share of women and dabbled in drugs. But in all that time, he didn't have any come to Jesus moments telling him that if he loved Simone so much go back and try and salvage something with her? He wanted to be worthy of her and cleaned up his act in rehab. I just didn't feel it. Maybe if there was more to his story on the road and why he had no communication for 15 years and then a detailed explanation of why he was leaving the band and going after Mona. But to never see that person in all that time (except for the few details Ash knew of her) he didn't even know she was broke. What if she was with someone? He made plans with Ash to renovate the building Patrick lived in to convert it to a studio. That's a lot of money to spend before you even know if you have a future in that town.
Patrick confused me too. After being so opposed to Simone being with Linc, he has one conversation out surfing one morning and he's convince that Linc truly is in love with Simone? Simone's life was torn apart for Linc. In standing up to her father, she lost the financial backing she needed to go to school. Meanwhile Linc is making millions over the years with his band but never wondered if she needed help? When the opportunities were there for him to support his former bandmate Patch, he failed on both accounts. Patch's family was quicker to forgive than I would have been.
At the end of Outside, the hurts have healed. I am not sure if the questions about the other characters in the story-particularly Ash and Karen, will have some resolution. There is a great canvass of characters and lots of stories yet to be told.
" I was holding back. I was afraid. I was so busy trying to find myself that I lost track of you in the process. You were like the perfect wave but instead of turning around and swimming toward you with all I had in me I went the opposite way, the wrong way."
•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••
I have loved Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross ’s performances since the first time I heard them work together! They play very well of each other. This is just as good as every other first in a series I have heard by them! Each character is unique and well performed. I hope they continue on with this series as it was a really fun listen. They bring a depth of emotion to every performance that I dont think I would find by just reading the book. I can't imagine it voiced by anyone else. More please :)
This series must be listened to (or read) in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to listen to the next one!
***NOT for the homophobic or closedminded***
Simone has never gotten over her first and only love Link Savage. He hurt her worse than she ever thought possible. Choosing fame and fortune over their relationship all because she felt the need to do the right thing. If only things had been different. Now he is back with a proposition and all she wants it to be left alone... Or does she? Is what she felt for him truly buried in the past? Does she dare give him another chance? Or should she just keep to her solitary existence? Is love worth the risk?
Lincoln never loved anyone except Ash until he met Mona. She was unlike anyone he had ever known. Growing up with an abusive father who hated him and told him how worthless he was didn't help his self esteem any. At least he'd had his Aunt and Uncle ... And Ash. Ash was the brother he never had as well as his best friend. Mona was a breath of fresh air and he wanted to make her his from the moment he heard her singing on the beach. Sensing her family life was as screwed up and damaging as his had been brought out his protective instincts and her choosing him over everything was a huge ego boost. Too bad he ruined it all. Will he be able to win her back? Does she still love him? Or is it too late to make up for the disastrous mistakes of the past?
***This series is suitable for adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy second chance contemporary romances with damaged people who learn they are worth love and that love is the most precious thing you can ever have :)
SIMONE had thought she had found her true love fifteen years ago, but then Lincoln followed his dreams and left her behind and broken-hearted. Now she's out of her father's ruling fist and owns her own surf shop while living a quiet life. That is until Lincoln comes back into it. LINCOLN knows he made a mistake when he broke Simone's heart and left her behind, but a part of him always hoped she would still be waiting for him when he finally came home. Now he's home and offering her a recording contract, but is there more to his offer? OUTSIDE is a beautiful written, poignant, and lyrical book about life, love, happiness and most of all second chances. Michelle Mankin touches you with her heartfelt words as Simone and Lincoln both bury themselves into your hearts. There were times I wanted to hate Lincoln, smack him even, but despite those moments I still genuinely liked his character and felt his emotions. I connected with Simone so much and loved her character. Simone and Lincoln's story is touching and one that you won't forget anytime soon. WHAT I LOVED ABOUT OUTSIDE: -The cover! Um, hello, have you seen the beauty that is this cover? It screams summer, beach, and romance! I love the colors the designer used. -The formatting. Julie Titus of JT Formatting does a wonderful job. I love the ocean chapter header on each chapter. -The characters. Simone and Lincoln are characters that you can relate to and fall in love with. Simone and Lincoln are both have personalities that you can connect with and you can feel each ones emotions. -The plot. I am a sucker for a second chance romance, surfers, and rock stars. Mankin literally made my year by combining all my favorite loves into one book. -The authors writing style - I have NOT read a book by Mankin before *gasp!* and let me tell you, I'm sorry that I hadn't discovered this author sooner. I love her writing style and the emotions she invokes within me as a reader. Her descriptions of Ocean Beach made it seem as if I was there and I felt each characters emotions clearly and genuinely. OUTSIDE is the perfect book for summer. Surf, sand, and romance, what else could you want? FIVE STARS!!
I love Michelle Mankin and her writing. She can really write anything (from rockers to surfers to paranormal). She pulls you into the characters world and you easily become invested in the characters and can’t help but love them. Another thing I love about her writing is the amount of research and passion that goes into her books. Outside is a second chance romance that is full of struggle, love, and life changing decisions.
The book is written in three parts, and we not only get to experience the present but we also get to experience their past story. We get to understand what happened and what went wrong and it really shows how much the characters have changed and grown. The character development is amazing and you are experiencing the love, pain, heartbreak, and healing right along with the characters. The connection and love between Linc and Simone is undeniable and has survived fifteen year, it’s just a question of can they move on from the past to create a new future with each other.
The secondary characters make the book even better and I hope we get more of them. If you are a fan of a second chance romance and HOT surfers/rockers then this is the perfect book for you. I highly recommend this book and all of the author’s other work.
