Reflections Through the Windscreen by Gaurav Khattar feels like an ode to roads and the journeys that shape us along the way. The book is not really about destinations, but about the person behind the wheel and everything they experience while getting there. Through five parts, Khattar takes us through his first driving lessons, memorable journeys, unexpected turns, and the five cars that became companions through different chapters of his life. From Kufri and Amritsar to Chopta, Chakrata, Chitkul and Himachal, the stories make travel feel deeply personal. The section about the nine minutes that changed his life was particularly impactful and stayed with me long after I finished reading.
What I loved most was how the book slowly turns driving into a metaphor for life. There is something beautifully calming about the way Khattar describes being behind the wheel, where the noise of everyday life fades and the mind focuses only on the next turn and the next decision. Even ordinary things, like parking a car, become reflections of personality and character. By the end, the five cars feel less like machines and more like companions that helped shape the driver he became. Every drive eventually ends, but the memories remain. Reflections Through the Windscreen beautifully reminds us that the road keeps moving, but the stories we collect along the way stay with us.

A love story of a man and his machines
I picked up this book after watching the latest Gullak series, and the one thing that is similar in this book and Gullak is that they both share a common theme, as 'Kahaniya nahin.. Kisse'
It slowly builds as a love story between a man and his machines from adolescence to adulthood, with both getting to know each other while evolving in their understanding of the world through thick and thin times and circumstances with friends and family.
A light read that gently takes the reader as a participant in the various situations being lucidly and captivately articulated by the author.
If you love traveling with your machines, then it's a highly recommended read.

This is a very different type of book. The author narrates his road trip experiences. His relationship with his various cars, which he had lovingly named, each one of them.
Millenials would particularly be able to relate with his anecdotes, like how he reminisices Premier Padmini as his first car. Even my Dad had it and I could easily relate the smooth transition to Maruti 800 and Santro.
Some of his journeys are very emotional too. Like how he didn't drive after his father passed away. There are many lessons in this book, that demand introspection. The author has expressed them beautifully.
Overall it's a very easy read, big font and short tales.

Reflections Through the Windscreen was a rewarding read that reminded me that every road has a story and every journey offers an opportunity to grow. I closed the book with a renewed appreciation for slowing down, observing the world more carefully, and embracing life's unexpected turns. If you enjoy reflective travel writing that combines heartfelt storytelling with meaningful life lessons, I believe this book deserves a place on your reading list.

“Reflections Through the Windscreen” is a beautifully crafted collection of experiences and reflections from the author’s travel journeys. The storytelling is engaging, the flow is seamless, and once you start reading, you’ll find it hard to put the book down.
Every now and then, you come across a book that doesn’t fit neatly into categories like fiction, spirituality, or motivational books. Instead, it offers something refreshingly unique. This is one such book. As you turn each page, you feel connected to the author’s thoughts, experiences, and emotions, making you want to keep reading.
A heartfelt and enjoyable read that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page. It’s one of those rare books that reminds you that the simplest stories, when told with honesty and warmth, often leave the deepest impression.

“Reflections Through the Windscreen” by Gaurav Khattar is a book about the road traveled, about the part each vehicle played in the life of the author and how each of them leaves memories behind. The book itself is written in a very simple form, easy to understand and relatable for every person behind the wheels. It’s filled with deep-rooted emotions and the love shared by a man with his vehicle.

Reflections Through the Windscreen is a non-fiction book by Gaurav Khattar that takes us through the author’s journey on the road and the life lessons he learned along the way. The various instances he experienced at different stages of his life taught him about stillness, the difference between city roads and mountain roads, and how every journey has something to teach us.
