"I haven’t always been a writer. My parents are writers and my brother is a writer, and I resisted that as long as I could. When I was 17, I hopped in a band’s van and I went on tour for a summer, and that was it, that was what I wanted to do. I ran a record label for 10 years, a small indie punk label. I did everything in music that you can do that doesn’t involve having musical ability. Eventually the music business, probably in a similar way to comics, will just start to break your heart, and I realized one day that I kind of hated music. I was resigned to thinking, if I’m going to be involved in music forever, I’m going to hate it for the rest of my life. I just stopped. I stopped having any sort of business with music, any involvement.

I read comics my whole life, so I just naturally fell back into another medium that is marginalized and hard to make a living in."

I love this book, and I can’t wait to see more of the world this creative team is building. The full-page depictions of city scenes are breathtaking and so imaginative. The little details are so telling, too, like how Abe lives in an apartment full of human things and waters his houseplant. Poor, Abe.

I continue to adore this series and this world, Abe is quickly becoming one of my favorite robot characters ever with how humanely he perceives and interacts with the world. And I love how we can go from some of the most chaotic life ending situations available, only to get shot right back out into the conveyor belt of this world as the cogs just keep turning as Abe finds himself in the part of the world that seeks escape from that machine. We jump in where we left off with Abe and Speed escaping their own death only to run into a little human. Abe is in disbelief and is filled with curiosity as to how this girl has survived, Speed is only reminded of how much he hates humans especially as the girl runs away from the sound of the approaching units and slips into an AC vent. This left Abe and Speed on their own as the security units cornered them…only for Abe to spot a trail of those tiny bug robots which rebuilt the outer wall in the first issue. Speed decides the best thing to do is to follow them, charging full speed ahead to a cracked portion of the wall where they are heading as the sec units yell about breaching a restricted area. Speed makes it all the way through to the other side and is forced to pull Abe through to stop his hawking. They found themselves on a tight beam with a deep pit below them full of the tiny robots. One of the sec units jumped in anger then, but was way too big and overshot the beam and landed in the void where it was ripped apart and only had parts of it left. But then Abe noticed the tiny human running on another beam above them. Speed climbs on Abe back so they can go up the maintenance ladder and the pair race after the human and accidentally end up in a security unit break lounge. The pair run out and find the human again as they chase after her and away from the hordes of security units into a clean room…you know, a room designed to get rid of any contaminants especially of the fleshy kind. As the room seals and speed works to get the other side open the gas which leaks in causes the girl to pass out. Brakes her in his arms and begs for speed to help him get her out as the other door filled with security stars to open. Speed isn’t happy about it, but he shoves his arm in the door gears to stop it from opening so Abe can get ahead. The girl wakes up and freaks out in Abe’s arms, shoving her hands in his face and triggering the button in his eye. This causes Abe to freeze up and shut down, as the girl ran away from the city. Speed slapped Abe awake once they got outside with the girl nowhere in sight.

Abe is still astonished to have confirmation that humans are real, but Speed gives him some advice to forget everything that happened and to go home and recharge and to never bring trouble speed’s way again, lol. But how can you forget something like that? Abe can’t just walk back out into the hustle and bustle of the streets and see things the same. As he gets back to his apartment complex the elevator is broke and he is forced to climb 25+ flights to his room. It’s a fairly normal apartment which has pictures hung up of the family who may have lived there before. Abe even has a plant on the window next to where he sits to plug in and recharge. But that might be but the town, pushing past the robo prostitutes and spark dealers to try and find speed. Eventually he does after a robot tries to rob him for some copper and Abe slams him through a wall to reveal a parlor filled with robots hitting all kinds of robot drugs. They have patches that let robots hit the infected network, they have alternating current if you really want to feel something, and in the middle of it all Speed is laughing it up. He notices Abe and calls him over, offering a shot. But Abe wishes to speak to speed because he is the only one he can, Abe can’t stop thinking about her. Speed understands the problem, some things are just hard wired like that so he holds out a sparking pipe looking object for Abe to hit to help him forget.

I’m enjoying the read and the art is good, but I need more substance. The issues are pretty scarce with dialogue and/or character development.
