I never applied to the Academy for Magical Beings and Creatures.
Which is why it was more than a little confusing when a letter arrived with my name already printed on a schedule, a dorm waiting, and classes picked out as if someone knew me better than I knew myself. Everyone knows the Academy, it’s where witches sharpen their spells, shifters master their forms, and every kind of magical creature learns to control their gifts.

Everyone except me.

I don’t even know what I am. No shifting, no magic tricks, nothing. Just a girl surrounded by people who can fly, conjure fire, or heal with a touch. So I sit through classes pretending I belong, and I listen hard for any clue that might tell me what’s hidden in my blood.

The only person more curious than me is Blake Nyvas, tall, golden-eyed, and very much a Dragon. People whisper that he’s dangerous, warn me to keep my distance. But Blake seems determined to solve the mystery of me, and somehow I trust him more than anyone else.

Absolutely loved the story! But, I wish there was more books or chapters about Lexi and Blake's story. I wish that we could have had a little more than just a small summary towards the end. But, overall very very good story! The Academy was very very cool!

I truly enjoyed this book. Kit has a writing style that draws you in, and make you experience the book on a very emotional level. Her descriptions on the magical beings were creative, detailed, and actually were represented spot-on by the human counterparts (in the case of the shifters). The Academy was kinda my favorite author (Kit, please write another book taking place in the Academy? 😊) Lexi and Blake’s story were well-rounded, and left you wanting more at the end of the book. The Bonus Epilogues truly finalised the story, and gave a lot of closure; as well as glimpse into the other characters. I will most assuredly be reading a lot more of her work.

Fell in love with the first few chapters k was extremely lucky I didn’t lose the book name while it wasn’t published on Amazon yet but once it was I binged it from start to finish enraptured in every page it’s unique telling of the supernatural was amazing easy to follow and not rushed.. loved the bonus chapters giving more info you want but didn’t think to ask for definitely worth the read

This book was so well written that even though an online ad had spoilers, I was still completely hooked and had to read it. I will not post spoilers for anyone else, but I will say that Kit is an amazing storyteller who writes realistically flawed characters who aren’t a walking red flag. Yes, they make mistakes, but there is never any outright abuse. Kit makes you care deeply about the characters, so their pain is your pain! (In the best ways.)

Basically something that is expected when the author writes it chapter by chapter with no editing/editors/proof-readers

Absolute Wonderful Read

I absolutely loved this book! Blake isn’t a dragon in the traditional sense —he’s simply someone who, like Ellorie, finds himself hated and judged by everyone around him. Because they are both treated like outsiders, they naturally become a team, and I loved watching their relationship develop. Blake falls for Ellorie hard, and their romance was one of my favourite parts of the story.
Dragons are seriously hated by the other supernatural races, and that prejudice runs deep—even some of the teachers at the school treat them terribly. It added so much tension to the story and made me really feel for Ellorie.
Things become even more intense when Ellorie shifts for the first time. Suddenly, she isn’t just an outcast—she’s being hunted. Blake becomes the one person willing and able to stand beside her and protect her, no matter what it costs him.
I loved Blake and Ellorie together. Their loyalty to each other, the danger surrounding them, and the way their relationship grows throughout the story had me completely hooked.
A wonderful, exciting and fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommend it!

Instagram AI ad suckered me. It was completely misleading tho. Made it seem like it would be spicy when it's definitely young adult. Book is ongoing and you have to pay for chapters... but I read 1-120 so far and it was entertaining but lacking real depth. The FMC is a little annoying/immature for being 23, but I like her character and sustenance.

Don't think I'll finish this book because chapters are hella expensive and she only puts out one a day. Doesn't look like it will be completed any time soon. Also there's not really a plot... chapters 1-90ish were just her at the magic academy and her not knowing what kind of shifter she is. Then 80-120 were her being a magic unicorn who is incredibly rare and hunted for her magic. Her bond with MMC Dragon Blake happened in like 2nd chapter and didn't really have any shake or questioning until he tried to keep her safe by locking her with his hoard.

Read with the NovelFlow app. Currently at chapter 142 (still in progress). This app gives several free chapters a day and a lot of free chapters unlock after watching an add. This makes that it can read more fluently than many other reading apps.

I got roped into it through a very misleading Facebook add. Thinking it was a spicy enemy to lovers trope. In fact you don't have to expect any spice and more of a friends to lovers.

I particularly like the portrayal of dragon shifter and their 'relationship' with their hoard. I also like the description of the execution of magic.

The only thing that keeps bothering me is if unicorn shifters are hunted, why would her bio parents ever enroll her into a magic school where she can be discovered so easily? It does not make sense to me.

Dialogues are mostly ok, but the characters don’t feel fleshed out. The book itself lacks substance. I assume it is because these types of books are written in a rush, a chapter every few days (and, of course, catering to the demand of a basic, easy-to-follow storyline with few characters and a lot of drama). More of the world (and the inner world) would need more work for it to feel significant. Barely touches a lot of themes (bullying, abuse of power, dependence etc.), then breezes by. Some characters vanish towards the end of the book, such as the annoying wolf girl. The ending felt abrupt and disorganised. Although I get a glimpse in the future, some of the things just don’t set right, because there was no previous suggestion anywhere in the book. Some knots are tied..just because. Overall quite messy.

Although I am sure that the format had a lot to do with it, this was one of the most frustrating pieces of work that my book club has opted to read in quite some time. There were inconsistencies and awkward phrasing throughout as well as details that were either SO drawn out in description or across chapters that I reread so may times I started writing details in my notebook just to avoid back tracking. I understand that some authors truly believe they are going to get a better buy in using those pay per chapter sites but all they have done is guarantee that I will never read any books they publish. Ever.

Very endearing story

I loved how Lexi never got changed. Her personal growth was paced so well. And Blake. Even dragons can learn to not be so dragon-y. And the Academy got a gift of friendship. Loved it!

The only thing I didn't like was the over use of ellipses. So many of them! It started to become distracting after a while.
