I just don't know Good mystery So So romance

I hate second chances any more. I especially hate six year separations with a six year old son and no contact between the lovers. She dated but it didn't sound like she had lovers and his sexual past during that time period is not mentioned. I love the intrigue line but I hate that they never bring up what happened during the 'lost years' as I call them and I want to know. I am a freak that way really. So while I believe they loved each other I still don't believe it unless I know they were true to each other. The mystery was good and I enjoyed the story nonetheless. I do love this author too. Good story just not great romance in my opinion.

With this book we come to the conclusion of this series with the end of the Bride Butcher, the sociopath who abducted to-be brides at their bridal dress fittings then brutally killing them for the past six years. The first victim had been Rebecca Drummond's sister Lexi Drummond. The only difference was Lexi's body was never found, although it fitted with the pattern of all the following killings.

Jared Bell is the special agent investigating this serial killing and six years ago he had been so sympathetic toward Rebecca over her loss and so concerned for her well-being that she fell in love with him and in a moment of vulnerability got physically intimate with him. He however regretted slipping in his professionalism and when she told him about her feelings for him, he thought she was only feeling that way because of the void her sister's disappearance had left her and told her it would be better if they had no further contact with each other. Moreover, they disagreed over who Rebecca thought was the killer because the man had a perfect alibi on the day of Lexi's disappearance.

Later she finds out she's pregnant with his child, but his rejection had hurt her very badly and she didn't want him to feel that she was trapping him so she didn't tell him about their son, Alex.

Now, six years later, Jared finds that the Bride Butcher's latest victim had been a friend of Becca's missing sister. He checks out of the hospital where he'd been admitted for concussion after taking a blow to the head while protecting the to-be bride of his friend and fellow agent, Dalton Reyes (the hero of book three of the series and the cockiest of all the agents) and goes to Becca's place to see if she knows anything about the latest victim's connection to her sister.

Becca, who was worried about Jared meeting their son who was about to return from a play-date, tries to send him packing, but their son returns before she could get him to leave. Alex is fascinated by Jared, all the more when he sees Jared's gun and badge. Since their son was on the smaller side, Jared doesn't make the connection that Alex is his son. It was only after the news reporter, Kyle Smith --who's been giving Jared a hard time over his unprofessionalism for the past six years after discovering his and Becca's relationship-- pointed out the fact that Alex was his son. Jared immediately asks Becca if it was true, but then apologizes telling her he didn't think she would keep something so big and important from him and she's flayed by guilt. When she tell him it's true, he's devastated. Although, he covers up for Becca when Alex asks where he was in the past six years saying he was busy with work, he can't help feel bit resentful toward her, but he doesn't hate her.

Alex and Jared immediately take to one another. The scene where Jared has to leave immediately after being introduced to his son and promises him as he hugs him that he'll come back was very sweet and emotional and so was the scene where he does come back with a gift for his son and he's nervous whether his son would like it. His son loves it and hugs him. All scenes between father and son were very sweet, escalating Becca's guilt and remorse for keeping the two of them apart from each other all these years. Moreover, she'd never stopped loving Jared. She'd tried dating other men, but no one came anywhere close to Jared. For Jared too, she'd never left his mind in all of the years they'd been apart. Their desire and feelings for one another is as explosive as before. One touch and they were making love. I liked that the book was more about Jared, Becca and Alex despite all that danger lurking around Becca, which is why Jared moves her and Alex to live with him in his apartment.

He also invites her to go with him for Dalton's wedding where he was the best man. She and Alex move cities to go live with him. Enjoyed the banter and the ribbing going on between the agents (all heroes in the series) in the groom's dressing room. Later after the ceremony, they were teasing Jared about whoever had stood up as the best man was the next to make the trek to the altar. Jared is keen about marrying Becca, but he knew if they were to marry, the Bride butcher would go after her, so he decides against asking Becca to marry him until the sociopath is caught. When he vehemently denies it, Becca is convinced he doesn't love her.

She however agrees to Jared's boss, Chief Lynch's suggestion that Jared and she pretend to be engaged to flush out the killer, which angers Jared and there's tension between them. Alex was a good diffuser of the tension. Loved the moment when they were hugging and he goes in between them and says, "Family hug." I loved him. Loved Jared and Becca too.

There's a shocking twist but the killer finally meets his end.

The epilogue was very sweet especially when Alex tells Jared, who proceeds to kiss Becca even before the ceremony had started, that he's supposed to wait and also when the other agents tease Nicholas Rus --another of my favorite and hero of Bodyguard's baby surprise-- about him being the next to trek to the altar as he was Jared's best man.

This is one of my favorite Lisa Childs' book. Would recommend it for anyone who'd like a nice, angsty romance with a nice suspense.

Excellent conclusion to the series. Jared is the FBI agent/profiler who has been hunting the Bride Butcher serial killer for six years. When another victim is found, and there appears to be a link to the first victim, Jared pays a visit to the first victim's sister. Becca has never stopped mourning her sister, nor insisting that she knows who did it. Jared is the last person she wants to see show up at her house. Six years ago, in the middle of the tragic event, she and Jared had had a passionate encounter, but their differences kept them apart. She's had no contact with him since then, including telling him that she was pregnant.

The attraction between Becca and Jared is just as strong now as it was before, and neither one can deny it. Jared is stunned to discover he has a son, and angry that Becca kept it a secret from him. Some of those feelings have to take a back seat to the mission of finding the killer, but it isn't easy. I liked the way that Jared accepted the truth so quickly, and loved the way he bonded so quickly with Alex. The relationship between him and Becca was a little trickier. He still cared about her, and the feelings were getting stronger, but telling her how he felt would take more courage than he had. He wasn't sure he could handle hearing that she didn't feel the same way. Becca had also cared about Jared, but because he had left without saying anything, she hadn't either.

Now that they are working together to bring the Butcher to justice, those feelings have come back to the surface. Becca feels pretty guilty that she hadn't told Jared about Alex, and making him part of their lives now makes her realize just how much they have missed. Jared needs Becca's help, but his feelings for her have added a whole new level of protectiveness to them. I loved seeing how both of them had to deal with their feelings and at the same time still keep focus on what they were trying to do. I really enjoyed seeing the way that Becca stood up to Jared when it came to trying to trap the killer. When the final confrontation was over, both of them had to face those feelings and decide whether to take the risk. I loved Jared's big moment there, and Becca's surprise.

The suspense part of the story was fantastic. The tension kept climbing, from the discovery of the new victim right through to the final confrontation. I loved seeing Jared and Becca try to discover the link between the first victim and the last one. It was interesting to see how she stuck to her belief about who the guilty person was. When she started receiving threats, Jared was even more determined to discover who it is. I loved following the investigation, and how they came up with several suspects. Each one seemed to be a good possibility and it was hard to settle on any one of them. There was a very interesting twist at the end that I never saw coming. The final confrontation was intense, and I wondered at times just how everything was going to turn out.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I don't think Lisa Childs is a very good writer. While this didn't annoy me as much as Agent Undercover, I still couldn't really buy the romance between the two characters. With "ex," as Jared is referred to on the synopsis, I thought he and Rebecca had had a serious relationship rather than a fling. And the front cover falsely gave me the impression that Rebecca was a fellow agent, in on the action as much as he is.

There were also certain characters I just couldn't stand - intentional, sure, but also kind of unbelievable, with the way the reporters were handling their job with such insensitivity.
And that twist--if I were in Rebecca's shoes, I'd be more furious than forgivable!

I wasn't too invested in the action or imminent danger, until towards the end, and couldn't believe Jared and Rebecca's love for each other, when it felt more like petty lust. I guess I'll stick to Love-Inspired stories, for now.

I kind of regret suggesting this and Agent Undercover as purchases for my local library; but at least I didn't buy them for myself on Kindle (which I didn't own at the time).

Also, before I even started on this, I edited Rosie Whiteley and Tom Hardy's - who starred in Mad Max: Fury Road as Angharad and Max - faces onto the cover, because they're who came to mind:

Rebecca met Special Agent Jared Bell when her sister Lexi was killed. The murder was gruesome. Blood everywhere. But her body was never found. Six years later, Lexi's killer is still killing future brides. Jared is no closer to finding the killer now then he was then.

Will Jared and Rebecca ever find the killer? Will they be able to have a happy ending when someone is trying to kill anyone who is planning on getting married. This book was riveting from the beginning to the end. I just could not put it down.

Thanks Lisa Childs for writing such an awesome book. I can't wait to read more books written by you.

I've loved Lisa Child's Special Agents at the Altar series from the first book, and I've been curious about the super serious FBI profiler Jared Bell from his first appearance. Rebecca Drummond was the perfect heroine for the genius Jared--strong, stubborn, and smart in her own right, Becca was just as determined as Jared was to catch a killer. This book was filled with suspense, suspects , and secrets. Childs perfectly balances the romantic and suspenseful elements to keep readers turning the pages and questioning their conclusions. The Agent's Redemption is a must read for those who love their romances saturated suspense, fully stocked with secrets, and driven by desire.
