There's an arsonist on the loose... A small North Carolina mountain town is on edge after a string of unexplained fires and the sudden disappearance of an ex-volunteer Fire Chief. Avery Barks and her fun-loving Golden Retriever, Chevy, are suddenly thrust into the middle of murder mayhem. In order to prevent arsonists from invading their small mountain town, Avery and her feisty 'mature' neighbor will have to team up to catch a murderer. Underwater is a standalone book in Mary Hiker's popular Avery Barks cozy mystery series. With fun characters, lots of twists and turns, and lovable dogs, it's easy to see why people enjoy these books. Amazon Reviews About Mary Hiker "Always enjoy a Mary Hiker story." Short Mystery

Good short mystery for fast read. As a dog lover I love the basis that one of the stars is a canine.

Dog gone good!

Great read, with zaney characters and smart dogs. Set in the land of sweet tea and summer heat. Very enjoyable!

Not purr feat, but good fun

I really enjoyed this book! It has murder, blackmail, gambling, arson, and real people who are a lot of fun in this short read.

Chevy does it again. I love this series --this is a mystery series without all the blood and gory details. Of course I love dogs and Chevy seems like an old friend after reading the other books in the series. Mary Hiker does a great job of creating the interaction between Chevy and Avery (his owner). This is a quick and light easy to read series--I highly recommend it! Cozy mystery lovers will clamor for the next book in this series.

Ok story but so very short that neither the murder mystery nor personal relationships really get flushed out. It all seems very quick and superficial; even another 50 pages would allow more details for the author to provide.

Short but sweet

Ok it has a murder so not too sweet. Easy to read fun story. I will continue to follow Avery's adventure s.

Short

Another good but short read with peripheral characters better fleshed out than the mains. One of these days we may learn something about Avery other than she likes dogs
