I started following the Six Dollar Family blog when I got serious about budgeting, and I decided to pick up her book to see if there was anything new, as well as to have an on-hand reference.
One thing that struck me is how similar her approach is to Dave Ramsey's baby steps (get on a written budget, build a $1k emergency fund, tackle debt, plan for retirement, etc.) She also mentions the cash envelope system, but also some other budget approaches and a good deal more as well. When she talks about saving money by hand washing clothes, there's a how-to and a recipe for homemade laundry soap, for instance.
I knocked 1 star off because some of the suggestions were obvious. Like, to reduce home air conditioning costs, turn on a fan and open a window. But there was enough in here to give this 4 stars.
I was expecting a lot more from this book. The author doesn't really go into detail about ways to save, and at the end she tells you she makes an extra $200 via several websites but doesn't tell you what they are. The book is supposed to be a supplement to her blog, but I feel it really should've gone into more depth than a blog post. Don't waste your money, save the $2.99 and buy a better money saving guide. I would've been truly upset had I actually paid for this.
Lots of great information in this book. After reading this book, I'm going to be bookmarking her blog. I loved her DIY stuff to curb spending for toiletries, medicine, and cleaning products. She gave a lot of cool tips on how to be super frugal + save even more money. She even gives resources on apps, etc. where you can save even more money on top of the items you purchase. Very well written. Learned a lot.
It was quick simple and easy to read. I picked it up as a free download. As I read it, I found hat I was doing everything already but the 401K. That's my next step. Loved the book. Well written and sound advice inside.
Is that it!!! What there is of it, was GREAT. The lady has a lot to offer. Many useful suggestions, Many stern realities, best I have read on the subject. ,
A truly tough but needed talk on the difference between need and want that is long overdue in this modern depression.
Enjoyed the financial advice in the book - good real world ideas. Needs editing for grammar and spelling. Recommend for the tips but be patient with the lack of editing, it is distraction while reading.
Interesting ideas but investing that amount of energy is not worth the pennies saved. Very much leave you trapped in middle class thinking. Decent way to get out of debt
This is a fast paced quick guide to saving money. It not only helps with your money issues but also helps you to teach your children about money as well.
