*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.* 3.5 stars
Ex-Navy seal who is now a sexy senator, were the only words I needed to hear, to know that I wanted to read this book. Not to mention he bares a striking resemblance to Chris Hemsworth, and who doesn’t love him?
I will say this book felt very instalove for me. It doesn’t have your typical build up to an explosive relationship, which is something I always like to see. You were never uncertain about whether or not they would be together. This doesn’t negate from the fact that it was a good debut book.
The chemistry between the two characters was evident from the beginning, making the instant love more realistic, even if it was something I don’t normally read. Not only that, but there funny banter, also kept me entertained. And who could leave out the sex scenes. There were plenty of them and they weren’t lacking in the hotness department.
Without spoiling anything, the book starts off with an action packed sequence, which leads to the introduction of our two characters. At thirty, Elizabeth has been through more than most her age have and she’s just trying to live her everyday life. Her past now seems to dictate what’s happening in her future.
At times, I had a hard time connecting with Elizabeth. I was hoping for more from her, but something was just missing for me. I loved her fiercely strong personality, but would have liked to see that continue throughout the storyline. Her love for her deceased husband was evident, so seeing her struggle with her attraction to John, felt real. I hurt for what she was going through, moving on, but having a hard time with the process.
“God, I loved my husband. And always will, but here was John-here-now.”
John on the other hand was what most girls would want. He was sexy, charming, and protective. There was never any wavering on his part when it came to Elizabeth, which was refreshing. I’ve grown somewhat use to seeing the hero in most stories fighting that pull towards the heroine, and we definitely didn’t have that here.
“I want you and you are the only one.”
Char Sharp is a promising new author, who I’m sure has more in store for us. I look forward to hearing more about a few of the supporting characters, because they seemed to hold a few mysterious of their own, especially Steele!
