Angie Roseland has closed her Sweet Dreams Bake Shop for a few months until she can move the shop to its new location. This is the third book in the Sweet Cove mystery series I’ve enjoyed, having read the first one, then skipping forward to the tenth, both of which I really enjoyed. I decided to go back to the second, and read them in order when I’m in the mood. It is the continuing story of the Roseland sisters: Angie, her twin sister, Jenna, Courtney, and Ellie. In the inaugural entry, along with their cat, Euclid, the sisters helped solve a murder in the small town of Sweet Cove, Massachusetts. It seems the sisters, like their grandmother, have a certain gift, a supernatural intuitiveness, and a connection to places and things which allow them to perceive danger, both present and past. Their cat, Euclid, also has an uncanny gift. It’s very light where the supernatural element is concerned, however, nothing dark or unpleasant, as you might extrapolate from the covers of these warm cozy mysteries.
In the second entry, Angie is waiting on the deed to the Victorian house she inherited in the first entry, and the check for $75,000 which will allow them to start renovating. Angie is moving her Sweet Dreams Bake Shop into part of the Victorian, while her sisters have been able to move in with her, to pursue their own dreams. Ellie is still reluctant to embrace or explore her gift, as the other sisters, especially Angie, has begun to. Josh Williams is back in this one, and a romance is blooming with Angie. Tom is stopping by for coffee as often as possible to see Jenna. It’s all nice and sweet, and bereft of the over the top silliness so often found on the pages of similar series.
The series, in fact, is sort of a leaned out version of this sub-genre, retaining the sweetness, and a light, bloodless, easily solved mystery. It is refreshingly bereft of the eye-rolling moments so associated with this all too often mind-numbingly frivolous sub-genre. That’s not to say there is a meaty mystery here, or meat at all. But it’s unfair to apply the standards for a conventional mystery to these things, as too many readers do, in my opinion. They’re more a nice place to visit. When they’re good, as I think this one is, they’re populated by nice people we like visiting once in a while, and there is some sort of premise — here it’s the girls’ inherited gift — which coupled with the setting, make them as enjoyable as the covers suggest.
Ellie is dealing with the Foley’s allergy to cats in her first week having the B&B open, while Courtney has been working at the Candy shop for Thaddeus Finch, a cantankerous man who soon finds a knife — or rather it finds him. Chief Martin knew the girls’ grandmother, who had a reputation for helping police as far away as Boston, so he asks the girls to help by tagging along. Yeah, it’s like that, but you have to roll with it, because as previously stated, logic and reality are not what you’re looking for in the first place, when you’re reading a series where cats have an almost sixth sense, and a light dusting of the paranormal exists.
When Victor Finch arrives, he seems to be the opposite of his grumpy brother, and it turns out he has a bit in common with the sisters. There is some nice backstory concerning the recipe book his brother has which had made him a world class confectioner. There was also a violent incident between the brothers, and some business about some very valuable paintings. Angie’s baking skills, and what gets infused in them, provide a some very funny moments between the mystery solving. Robin’s Point comes into play again in the second entry, and the girls’ find a new cat who may also have some vague magical abilities. But what about Thaddeus Finch? Who wanted him dead and why?
There is some excitement involving a car trunk, and a rescue in the nick of time at the end before everything is solved. Angie’s suspicions about attorney Jack Ford from the first book take a detour, and promises that the series will now settle in, just as Angie and her sisters are settling into the Victorian and their respective futures. It’s a nice atmosphere, not overdone, with a little romance, also not overdone. A very light mystery in a very charming setting. I enjoyed this one and I’m looking forward to tackling the third at some point. The Sweet Cove Mysteries are quick, easy reads and make a nice break from meatier books. When a book is attempting to fill a certain niche, and succeeds as well as this, it ranks high for me. As long as you know what you’re getting into, and know what not to expect, these are really pleasant and tremendously enjoyable. A nice niche filled to near perfection.

A cute little mystery that takes place around 4 sisters running a bed and breakfast. The mystery was nicely paced and I liked it a lot better than the first book in the series. I liked that the paranormal element was not just used in aiding to solve the mystery but also added a funny element :)

I'm really enjoying this series a lot. I love how this one continued on about two weeks after the previous book ended. Handy tip though: Be sure you read these books in order. If they're all like this one was, the previous killer was talked about several times. And it's best for getting to know the characters and their relationships with other characters. I feel like this town's story will build with each book like a TV show.
Again, it was a sweet and lighthearted read and not super easy to figure out, but I had an idea of who did it eventually. The showdown was great, and I love how Angie and Courtney are finally using something that Nana had told Courtney about when Nana was still alive. I like the continuing mystery of Angie being curious about Prof. Linden's father. When I read all the blurbs of the future books and started seeing two cats on the covers, I was happy to read about that addition in this book. And I got my curiosity taken care of about something else as well. On to book three!

Murder So Sweet is the second book in the Sweet Cove cozy mystery series. It’s another sweet, light, magical mystery surrounding four close sisters who are all individual entrepreneurs in the small town of Sweet Cove. This particular mystery surrounds a murder at a candy shop and the sisters, who are currently living in their sister Ellie’s new B&B, and Angie’s Victorian mansion, are at the center of it all.
There are admittedly some plot holes and obvious conclusions, but it’s all in good fun. There are paranormal elements, a bit of romance, and strong familial bonds. They are relatively short stories and quick reads and a lovely palette cleanser to heavier stories.

You have to suspend belief in this book as the paranormal elements are a bit stronger and prevalent. I am not a fan of cats, especially cats who act like humans, understand humans and actually help investigate murders. However, the sisters are a pleasure to read about and i enjoyed learning more about their powers.
You need to read this series in order as many of the unresolved items from Book#1 were discussed and or resolved in this book. (no spoilers) And, at the end, it leaves questions unanswered. Sometimes I get mad when a book ends like that but in this series, it intrigues me and makes me crave the next book.
The mystery was well-written and I did not guess the killer.
Overall, a cute, short, quick and easy read.

Another Sweet Cove Mystery!
This is my second trip to Sweet Cove to visit the Roseland sisters. I like these sisters, because I have three sisters also.
Angie, Ellie, Jenna, and Courtney have businesses to run out of the Victorian house that was left to Angie when Professor Linden left her the 18 room mansion!
In this book Courtney takes a part time job working for Mr. Finch at his candy store. She goes into work one day to find him dead on the floor of the candy shop. Of course, Courtney is suspected to be the murderer!

This second novel is the charming series continues to follow the four sisters, Angie, Jenny, Courtney, and Ellie Roseland. The four sisters are living in the Victorian home as caretakers while the probate is adjudicated.
Angie helps out with Jenna's jewelry shop, and Ellie is forming a Bed & Breakfast in some of the house. Courtney gets a part-time job with the town's famous candy maker at his shop.
Courtney gets a 'bad' feeling and asks Angie to walk her to work. Angie thinks this is a bit odd but agrees. When they arrive at the shop, the lights are off but the front door is open...I know...I know but yes, the girls go in and find a body....however, this swings into a new character in the book series who will end up surprising you.
Angie finds she wants to solve the murder, she learns secrets of her family's ancestry, and starts freelance baking until her own new bakeshop can be built.
The cat, Euclid gets a friend and the surprising action scenes continue. Are the girls psychic or not?
This is a great read and I found myself having to read number three...hope my batteries hold out.

Just plain AWFUL

The main characters, four sisters in their 20's, are so sugar sweet, I wanted to brush my teeth by Chapter 3.
There's a cat thrown in to hook folks like me (translation: women who talk to their cats and will swear that they actually understand , you know the type), and I didn't think much of him, mostly because he didn't leave little "presents" on the twits' bed.
I actually had to skip to the end once I hit Chapter 8, I just couldn't suffer through any more "cupcakes & rainbows".
Suffice to say that the ending was exactly what one would expect - totally unbelievable.
Just drop a box of cat litter on your foot and call it a day.

Another entry into the not so quiet town of Sweet Cove. Can this quaint town handle yet another murder? How much do you really know about your neighbors? The Professors cat from book one has a new feline friend that danced right into the sisters world, there is something special with these cats and their sixth sense does it help heightening the sixth sense the sisters are learning?

This is a light, fun, easy-reading cozy mystery with a slightly "magical" aspect to it.
I get the audio version of these books from my library, and they are the perfect companion for when I have a long drive to visit family.
I enjoy the four sisters who form the main characters. I also enjoy the other characters who people the small town of Sweet Cove and the murders that happen, and that the sisters end up investigating.

Another fun little mystery. I enjoyed the characters in the first book, so I moved on to the second in the series. This book further delves into "powers" the characters may have which was only hinted at vaguely in the first book. I gather from other reviews and summaries of later books that this becomes more central to the overall plots of the books in the series. At first, when reading that these were "supernatural" in nature, I got a much different picture, but so far, it's not terribly fantastical. I do enjoy how the relationships and love interests are included, but not rushed. Two of the main characters are still on flirting terms with their interests after the second book (ok, there is a date for one of them), but I like seeing the slower progression of the relationship when so many novels seem to jump into it rather quickly. Here, the murder mystery takes precedence along with the developing "powers" of the characters as the main focus. I'm enjoying getting to know the individuals in their quaint little town and I look forward to the next installment in the series.

Sweet treats and murder rolled up in one!
This is the second in the Sweet Cove series by JA Whiting. Angie and her sisters are settling in quite well in their new home but things are still unsettling. The sisters are unsure of their powers and don't fully understand them.
Jenna has her jewelry shop up and running and Ellie is happy running the bed & breakfast. Angie is waiting on the transfer of ownership before she can renovate and open her bakery. Courtney is done with school and takes a part time position in the local candy shop. Grumpy Mr. Finch won't be making anymore candy now that someone had killed him. Courtney and Angie discover his body and are troubled by the circumstances surrounding his death. When his estranged brother shows up the girls aren't sure what to expect.
Between disgruntled employees and strange visitors the girls set out to find his murderer.
This is a great series which I will continue to read.

Murder So Sweet Book 2 of the Sweet Cove series has Angie and her sisters running a B&B and investigating the death of a candy store curmudgeon. This one was much better than the first, a great plot with more than one dimension to it, pacing that kept the story moving. I thought the end was still a little abrupt and the murder wasn't solved so much as confessed. Still, it's a cute series with some improvement from the last book, so I'll happily put this on my series-to-watch list.

I really wanted to like this book, it's a cozy murder mystery with paranormal themes. Unfortunately, everything in Sweet Cove is so saccharine, so simplistic, so neatly tied, so boringly G-rated, it made me yearn for an Agatha Raisin character to upset everyone. I took me a while to work out why it didn't gel, I think it's the overly formal and stilted dialogue, the lame paranormal stuff (headaches and cats who save the day), and too many plastic superficial main characters - I need a stiff drink and a cigarette with Agatha to get the sickly taste out of my mouth!

There are four sisters who are featured in this series (Angie, Courtney, Ellie, and Jenna)…but there are also two more helpers - 2 cats. Yes! Cats. Angie is the main sister and this book is from her viewpoint. Angie and Courtney are showing the beginnings of having certain “abilities”. Angie inherited an 18 bedroom Victorian home from her friend, Professor Linden (Linden’s murder happened in the first book). The four sisters currently reside in the home and have various business ventures in and out of the house. Angie is getting ready to renovate part of the home to house her Sweet Dreams Bake Shop. Jenna makes and sells jewelry out of one of the houses rooms.
In this book, Thaddeus Finch was found in his candy shop by Angie and Courtney with a knife sticking out of him. It was up to the sisters to solve the murder…with the help of not only the cats (Euclid is a Main Coone orange cat and then a new cat enters in this book. The new cat is black and is named by Thaddeus’s brother. The black cat is named Circe which means Goddess of Magic.) You see, the sisters are coming upon powers, Supernatural powers. They’re just “feelings” for now, but it appears that these powers are developing and becoming stronger.
So, the murder of Thaddeus was solved and now Thaddeus brother is a new character in future books. He is referred to as “Finch” or “Mr. Finch”. Mr Finch has visions when he comes into physical contact of certain people, so he understands what the sisters are coming into. He is also a candy maker and invited Courtney to be his partner and apprentice of his new candy shop located in the building and space that Thaddeus previously leased.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I must admit that the paranormal slant to these books makes for interesting reading.
I feel for Angie as she and one of her sisters discovers our dead victim. It is also refreshing to find stories where the person who finds a deceased person is not automatically classified as a prime suspect and placed at the top of a list of suspects or considered “the only” suspect.
I loved seeing how the author weaves the cats into this story and also how they add to assisting in finding clues or interpreting them. A new person enters the picture and will eventually decide to make their home in Sweet Cove.
Love is in the air as well for two of the four sisters and the sisters discover that a suspicious minor character in both books so far, is really a nice person.

Another enjoyable read from this series. The characters are interesting and the murder mystery is intriguing. The four sisters are moving in together into the Victorian mansion that was gifted to her by the recently deceased retired professor.

This series is just so sweet! It does have that in the name, but it’s also true. I really like Angie and her sisters, and even more how she is the MC but Courtney and the others are starting to have more importance as well.
The mystery of the candy maker dying and his painting disappearing was a lot of fun, I managed to guess the killer
I enjoy the sprinkle of romance between some of the sisters and a couple very cute guys, it adds a lovely touch. The paranormal aspect is also great, we are slowly discovering more about their powers and what they can do. It seems that each sister can do something slightly different, and I am curious to see if Ellie will eventually be okay with their magic or if she won’t change her mind.

It turns out the group of girls mother had 'skills' and it's very possible that each girl will develop her own 'skills.'
Angie's baking seems to make people feel good. She has a vision of a stolen painting while they find out the truth about his brother. There are also some recopies at the end part of the book.
Pretty standard fare.

The Roseland sisters are charming (although Ellie is behaving like an adolescent regarding the family secret), and the mystery is engaging, if improbable, and neatly wrapped up. Angie, Courtney, Euclid, and Circe are eager mystical sleuths, and Jenna is a fine supporter. The writing flows well, there may be new characters to add tension, and there looks to be an intriguing connection between the Roseland and Linden families...

Such a good series! This series gets better and better. It has everything…..two very smart cats, blossoming romances, Magick (not the stage magician kind), sisters who love each other, an amazing Victorian house, mysteries to solve, no editing problems, no graphic sex (actually no sex), no graphic violence, no cliffhanger endings, and RECIPES! So, curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of tea (or coffee) and enjoy. I have the next one all lined up in my “to be read” stack.

This is a quick read or quick listen in my case. It was my first experience with a cozy mystery and I don't think that genre is for me so I rated it a (what I think of as) neutral 3 stars. It was fine. This was like if The Sarah Michelle Gellar movie, Simply Irresistible, met the OG tv show Charmed with three sisters who are slowly discovering they have powers (one who can cook feelings into her baked goods) all while working to solve a murder.

Hooray!
Rarely have i been so intrigued by a series as i am with this one. The murderer was a surprise, as were the motive and the method. The new character Victor French adds a satisfying element to the storyline. If you want to be lost in a mystery for an afternoon, choose this one. You’ll be delighted that you did!

I am truly loving this series about four sisters who live together in a large Victorian home in a small town of Sweet Cove, MA. It is a lite read and full of twists and turns when they are helping to solve a murder in their town. They have two adorable cats that have something special about them and their owners are also discovering their special talents.
Highly recommend this sweet series to anybody who loves a good cozy mystery.

Courtney is out of school and back in Sweet Cove, working for the candy maker Mr. Finch. Angie andCourtney Mr. Finch dead in his store, stabbed. Finch has a brother, Victor who is in town and wants to stay at the B&B. They try to figure out who killed the candy maker. Good characters and story, great ending.

No spoilers here. This is a good series to read if you want a genuine cozy mystery free of violence, swearing, and smut. You can enjoy them as stand-alones or if you're traditional like me you can read them in order.
