In Book

Melinda Howard is the Demon Isle’s weird girl... the one that’s been holed up in the Howard Mansion for the last four years. Why? No one knows the truth except her family. A long line of witches charged with protecting the Demon Isle, along with their mentor, the four-hundred year old Vampire, William Wakefield.

Another reason Melinda doesn’t mind her self-inflicted imprisonment. She gets to spend her days with the charming vampire, who also happens to be her best friend. Only now, she’s spending her night’s with him too. He just doesn't know it…

Any other girl would enjoy the nightly thrill of a sexy vampire invading her dreams. But not Melinda as her dreams have a tendency to come true. Although typically, they don’t include the handsome vampire she’s crushing on, but rather horrifying visions of people about to die.

But she cannot stay under self-inflicted house arrest forever. And if her brothers or William get their choice in the matter, Melinda will be out of the house partying with her friends, giving her affections to a human, not a vampire, and digging into her role as a witch.

A role her eldest brother Charlie lives for, and a role her second brother Michael, would rather live without. Nevertheless, when duty calls, usually from the local sheriff needing help with some tourist who’s gotten themselves into supernatural trouble, life screeches to a stop, and duty takes over.

Such is the case when the sheriff needs help with a four-year-old murder investigation; one she fears has a supernatural cause. To assist her in the case, she calls upon the skills of The Howard Witches.

However, what they learn might be more than any of them can deal with, or accept. Worse yet, they fear what this discovery will do to Melinda as it returns them all to the core of her self-imprisonment.

And back to the lives, she could not save...

These stories have their ups and downs as the characters pretty much fly by the seat of their pants reacting to the chaos that occurs around them.

I feel first two books had more of a believable plot, even though very simplistic and super predictable, and fair execution of it but this third book went off into a tangent that just did not work for me and the reveal at the end was not only one I expected but also abrupt and unsatisfying.

I expected more from the books to be honest. I usually enjoy Fantasy novels and the idea reminded me of the TV show Charmed which I liked but the books fell flat for me.

So far none of the characters have a lot of, well ... character but are instead really stereotypical. The one thing I do know a lot about now is the siblimgs sex life.

The sex scenes are the most detailed scenes even though other parts of the plot could have done with more padding. What I also found really weird were the descriptions used for sex: one woman's vagina is continuously referred to as a peach and at one point the male character can feel his limp worm increase in girth in her hot peach. Maybe it's just me, but that's just not sexy.

Overall, I liked the idea and the storylines but the execution just didn't do it for me.

Things I found to be true about all three books I read: simplistic writing, stilted dialogue, names used too frequently to be natural, frequent drastic and disruptive shifts in POV (I don't think the author actually payed any attention to POV consistency), schmaltziness, cheesy language used during sex scenes, and men tend toward action while girls primarily agonize over love/sex. Lastly, none of the books stand on their own. They are closer to long serial installments than books in a series.

Isle of magic and more....

Three witches and a vampire make up the Howard Household. Each have diverse gifts that they use to protect themselves, and their island of friends. The Howard's house is a hot bed for what is going on the island. You will love these witches and friends. Two of the witches are male and one is their sister. This is a innovative series but left me hanging and waiting to read the next book in the series. Great characterization and well-written story. Adult readers due to violence and sexual content

Absolutely loved this set and really hoping to see Miss Silver do more collections like this one. This was the best witch series I've read. Quick paced, action, mystery, and all kinds of other goodies and beasties. So if you've not started this series yet, I strongly suggest you do and you might as well start here with the first three books. You won't be able to put it down once you start it. I know I couldn't. Excellent job Miss Silver! I salute you.

I'm leaving this review of my free own will. IN no way have i been bribed, coerced or paid to leave this review.

Good fantasy romance story

I was looking for something light and entertaining to read, more funny ha ha, than romantic.

This scored, but came with some pretty steamy scenes in the mix.

Very well written, it scores as a romance novel and it is pretty erotic too, without being vulgar. I liked the characters and the story.

A solid foundation for a series. I specially liked that the author knows how to close a story, but leaves the door open for the next installment, without taking away from the book you just finished.

Good to read with you partner.

'Wicked Good Witches' is a great series so far. It keeps getting better book after book. I loved the storyline and how it played out. The different paranormal beings are intriguing. I enjoyed the way the Howard family deals with each new challenge. I loved the humor. The characters are great. I look forward to reading more of this series. A great add to your tbr list.

I really enjoyed the first three books in this new-to-me series, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest! There were a few minor niggles, hence the deduction of a star (it should only have been half a star, but Goodreads won't allow halves); way too much repetition of certain things, e.g. Melinda's disbelief of a certain character's opinion/treatment of her (ha, no spoilers) and, for that matter, that particular character's responses to this disbelief; Melinda being unaware that Grace was in on the family/island 'secret', even though she would have been 17 when she withdrew from everything and, presumably, until then an active member of the community. Small niggles, I know, but instances like this made me feel as though the author had run out of things to write, and was simply trying to make up the word count. However, aside from these and a couple of other very minor issues, I loved the characters, the world building, and also the plots (although the cliffhanger was totally expected by me as soon as the historical situation was mentioned - maybe I've read too many of this kind of story?!). Oh, and I am totally in love with William, and felt my heart break a little at times for him (read the books; you'll know when!). In summary, as Winter speedily approaches, you could do a lot worse than curling up under a blanket on a rainy Sunday with a mug of hot chocolate and these tales for a hugely enjoyable chunk of 'me-time' escapism!

A very annoying thing in the books is the constant change of narrator point. It is sometimes very confusing and doesn't feel intented. Also, it took me quite a bit to relate to the characters and still after 3 books I have a hard time relating to them. Other than that, it's not a complete waste of time and I would like to know how Melinda decides (I can't make my mind up either!) or if Charlie will find his match. From the review of the following books, I am a bit shocked that Matthew's girlfriend will leave him – oh no! But I am not hooked enough to carry on paying for the books, so sorry, 2 points only.

I found out that there are two versions, one more for adults one less steamy. I don't know I think I read the Kids Version but it wouldn't have changed my opinion I think.

The Howard family had been the protectors of Demon Isle for generations. The isle is the great source of power and creatures of all sorts for years. Now the three siblings and the vampire mentor protect it. Each has their own powers as a witch. Charlie the oldest is a werewolf and a potions maker. Michael the middle one is an empath and death reader. Melinda the youngest and only girl has the gift of prophetic dreams of death. When strange things start to happen it up to the three of them to find out why. This story is good and keeps your attention to the end. I have to say it really wasn't what I thought when I first started it but I was glad I stayed with it. I was disappointed with the end the story just ends abruptly so you have to get the next book of the series.

Loved loved loved poor Howard family curse it seems but I loved all 3 books. To know they lost their mother a few years ago and than their oldest brother is a werewolf. Ugh poor Charlie. Michael I wanted to hit him over the head for not telling Emily sooner he loved her. Melinda where to start loves her guardian/vampire William. Sadly he swore he would never love another human . Than Melinda finding someone who was in to her only to get hurt in the end. Ugh couldn't put down till I finished all 3 books. Cannot wait to read the rest in this series.

Exciting

Great read from the start. To be on an island that's mystical is a start and for it to be protected by witches and a vampire leads to mystery.
Melinda and her brothers are the witches and they lost their parents so it's up to them to protect the island. But of course someone comes to the island to undo them.
I would recommend this book if you want a great read plus a little fantasy.

The plot and writing style are about right for fifth grade, with some gratuitous sex scenes thrown in. There are enough incorrect words to make me think that the writer is not a native English speaker.

The stories are fun, it's very soap opera-y. But I HATE cliffhanger endings. It sealed my decision not to continue with these.

Very interesting, a page turner!

I chose to give this book five stars because the description of each character and what they felt or were going through was so descriptive and vivid. Each page felt like a new scene, and I could wait to turn the page. The only thing I felt I wasn't made aware of since the descriptions of character were do good is, what is Grace, and how does she know about the Howard and the supernatural community? I know she is supernatural just from the different scenes and the characters interactions with her at the cafe. Anyways, I cannot wait to continue reading the series. I'm curious as to what Eva Jordan and the Deanes have in store for the Howards and Demon Isle. I also can't wait to find out how Melinda handles her relationship with Riley Deane and with William, and what happens when Charlie figures out that the Alpha is for sure still alive. So excited for what happens next!! This series of books is awesome so far!

The "Wicked Good Witches Three Book Box Set" by Starla Silver focuses on the lives of three sibling witches and their vampire guardian. The novels take place on Demon Isle off the coast of Maine. Home to a supernatural power source, the Howard witches have protected the Isle and its non-supernatural residence from malevolent forces for many generations. Orphaned four years prior to the start of the first novel, the Howard siblings have spent their time working with the local sheriff while dealing with their own issues. The first three novels takes place over the course of about a week. I like the series, I just hope that it keeps getting better.

Shame about the astounding misuse of vocabulary

It's such an engaging story that it's a real shame that the book(s) are riddled with misused words. Basic vocabulary mistakes. Examples: "drybones" is not a word. The Howard family are the Howards, not the Howard's. "comprehendible" is not a word. "statuesque" means tall, graceful (and possibly large)- describing a woman. It does not mean still like a statue. The word is harebrained, not hair-brained. Conscience not conscious. "Here's you scream"- really? And perfectly good words are misused all over the place: ardently, retorted, insinuated, blockade, emoting... As well as too many bizarre phrases to list.
It's a pity that the author is making such basic errors in vocabulary, but at least a competent critical reader/ proof reader would have cleaned up the manuscript before it went public.

BLECH!!

I wish there was a way for Amazon to indicate that an urban fantasy novel it starts out and is focused primarily on our heroine's sex life. I don't mind SOME relationship drama, but I couldn't get past the third chapter in this book because I'm really not interested in all the storm under drank that seems to be the hallmark of a margin romance novel. I'd like the base premise of the three magical siblings protecting an Island from supernatural threats, but having to put up with ice neurotic whining of two of those boings is a big turn-off. If I had known what this book have been focused on I would never have wasted my time with it; thank the gods I only paid $.99 for this piece of crap.

When books are sold in a "box set" I expected it to be a finished story. Maybe that was dumb on my part. These books were OK.. It could have been a very good series but it was lacking many things. (like the rest of the books in the BOX set for one..) VERY predictable. Like I could have written this in my sleep predictable. I hate it when authors of a series put the first few out there for free and than want to charge for the rest of the books. I would maybe finish reading them if they were free but there is NO way I'm paying for this. Your bad editing and predictable story line is all good when its free. (Barnes and Noble doesn't even have this author anymore..)

Omg

There's so much going on in this series of books I don't know where to start. The author has all kinds of stuff side stories going on along with the main storyline. Unfortunately it hangs a cliffhanger at the end. I would have given them a five star rating if it hadn't. It's a story about a family of witches, siblings, who are entrusted to protect an island from evil. Lots of supernatural beings live there, good as well as bad. They also have a vampire living with them who is their guardian. The story is all their adventures while protecting the island. It needs some editing help but it's not super bad.
