Beyond Consensus: Salvaging Sense of the Meeting

Rate this book
Is it too late for Friends to recover a gift intended for them? That gift is a sense of meeting in a meeting for business. That gift is not consensus. Barry Morley discusses three essential components in dis- covering a sense of meeting: release, long focus, and transition to Light all of which are nuturuted by worship. Rich stories of life experience illustrate the process in a pamphlet that offers a true gift back to Friends.

I re-read this every few years. It is important to me and how I live in the world.

The world systems are threatening destruction both of themselves and the world about them. This 32 page pamphlet offers an antidote.
I read the actual pamphlet borrowed from my Meeting library, but it is also available as an ebook.

Should be required reading for every Quaker clerk, particularly for our business meetings, but also for our other committees. "More poser flows through a Religious Society of Friends than can be generated by an Ethical Society of Friends." Need to remember this and not be shy about it.

A really helpful book. The issue maybe that some who would benefit from ot would likely never read it

An important exposition of the ideal of Quaker business meetings, illustrated with very clear examples of both consensus and sense of the meeting.
