Graded exercises introduce the reader to the history and techniques of commedia, originating in mid-16th century Italy. Topics covered include: the commedia masks; mime and movement games; using face masks; and creating the roles. Illustrations demonstrate posture, gesture, costume and masks.
This is an extremely useful volume for Commedia directors and actors as well as anyone who wants to know more about this genre of theatrical performance. I will use the information learned and the exercises when I direct a Commedia production this fall. I am especially excited about using the drills, games, and activities to train my cast.
